  • In her talk, Britt Ringstrom takes us on a journey where we learn about how she and several others have learned from their struggles.
Britt Ringstrom has built both her career and her life around strength, exercise and movement. An athlete throughout high school and college, Ringstrom’s performance on the ice and the field-- not to mention her ability to back squat 400lbs-- mark her as nothing less than the epitome of power and performance; however, Ringstrom is no stranger to the challenges of disease as well as mental and physical setback. After struggling with severely swollen joints and all-consuming fatigue, Ringstrom was diagnosed with Junior Rheumatoid Arthritis mid-way through her college career. Betrayed by her body, Ringstrom was forced to modify her lifestyle in order to continue to pursue her passion. In the process, however, Ringstrom has been able to bring her love of action, commitment to health and unique perspective to movement’s special populations, including elderly individuals facing similar physical obstacles and young girls attempting to find their place in athletics.

I was diagnosed with still’s disease at the age of 26. It shattered me and left me not only unable to even dress myself but also deeply depressed. I was not only taking steroids combined with immunosuppressants but anti depressants as well as medication to sleep . The pain has been excruciating, debilitating during flare ups . My rheumatologist told me to apply for disability but I didn’t . I made serious changes in my diet some years ago and started doing strength training at home with RUclips videos . I haven’t taken medications in the past 2 years .I’m currently 44 years old and just joined a CrossFit box a few weeks ago . Yes the workouts are challenging for me and today I woke up super sore but I’ll continue pushing forward because if I stop moving , I lose mobility rapidly. Blessings to all those people suffering with this painful disease . You are strong and yes , you can do it !

I just now discovered the Ketogenic diet and I'm noticing significant much less inflammation and for me, less lower back pain, ankle and especially elbow stiffness and pain!!

A friend forwarded a video clip on CELERY JUICING for RA. Drink it first thing in the morning on empty stomach and I tried for 14 days as recommended.
By week one the pain went away (yay!) and my bowel system normalised (note: first 2 to 3 days i felt "slightly off"/bad, flushing toxins from my body 3 times a day).
      Very soon i saw results!
Can be an effort but i stuck to the routine for a few more weeks. Good news: the results are all positive: increased energy levels (yay!), clearer complexion (double yay!) and a spring in my step.
Now i do celery juice as and when necessary. But to be effective drink on empty stomach and let it work for one hour BEFORE having breakfast. I started with Australian celery now trying organic ones. Take your life back! Blessings 🎉

There's no cure for RA, but you can manage it with these 3 steps:
    1. Get diagnosed early, schedule regular checkups with your rheumatologist, and get the right medication for you.
    2. Eat healthy/anti-inflammatory foods and elminate unhealthy/inflammatory foods.
    3. Keep moving/do low-impact exercises everyday and get adequate sleep.

This actually helped me alot! RA is hereditary in my family. My grandma has it, my aunt has it, I have it, and no doubt if I have children someday some of them might have it. I was diagnosed with RA when I began 8th grade. I've had my ups and downs with the disease but I never felt so in pain until now. I am now 19 years old and I can never sleep well at night because my whole body is in pain. I did it to myself because of my recklessness. It angers me that I can't eat whatever I want and have to have limits on myself. I plan to beat this naturally.

I know that you wrote this a while ago, but I just wanted to say from one RA patient to another: keep fighting! And while I know that you plan on beating this naturally, do NOT feel like you failed just because you have to rely on medications. I went medication free for about 10 years, not because I wanted to, but because I wasn't able to get a diagnosis until I was in so much pain, my friends had to carry me up to my dorm and I wasn't able to leave my seat even though I was so hungry. I was eventually recommended to a rheumatologist who actually understood the disease. Eat healthy for you (don't let people say that if you just eat this fad, you'll be healed). Food is your friend, but make sure that you aren't eating something that hurts you or depriving yourself of something that helps. Exercise what's appropriate for you. Do what is healthy for you and nobody else. And above all, remember that you are a survivor and you are strong and you are beautiful.

    Thank you Britt.
Seeing you looking so splendid, confident, fit and strong while managing this disease is exactly what I wish I had seen when I was first diagnosed with RA - because when I first went looking (following my diagnosis) for helpful information, it all looked very depressing and my future seemed dire.
I understand the concerns below about unsubstantiated "fixes" for the disease - the causes of which nobody really yet understands - but think that you acknowledge the assistance you have been receiving from medication and I take some heart from your recommendation for each of us to look at our health in a 360 degree way and work on the areas of our total life (not just joints and pain) that we feel need to be attended to.
    I love your talk.

I had rheumatoid arthritis in my hands and wrists, which gradually came on over several years until my knuckles were red and swollen and painful and my hands (mainly my left) swift and not very mobile. My grandma had it, and I just thought I was inheriting her condition genetically. I also had other symptoms of coeliac disease, so I decided to try a gluten-free diet. Within three weeks, the arthritis completely went away, and I felt generally better than I had for about twenty years. The arthritis has stayed away ever since, although I get hints of it returning when I occasionally lapse from my gluten-free lifestyle. I assume it won't work for everyone, but definitely trying a gluten-free diet if you have rheumatoid arthritis.

    • @steve6375
      @steve6375 5 лет назад +3

After 55 years of RA, I have only just found out that wheat makes it far worse the next morning. Gluten-free bread does not work for me, so I now avoid wheat completely (cakes, pasta (which is not so bad) or bread/pizza (bad)) and I can now put my socks on easily in the morning! I am convinced that (my) RA is related to what I ingest. I recommend you keep a diary of what you eat\drink and rate your RA every day and look for patterns. It is what you do NOT eat\drink that counts!

try Moringa ( "My arthritis cure" video). cut off refined sugars and saturated fats, dairy, wheat, alcohol, meat. do intermittent fasting. work on gut health (though lots of vegetables and avoiding bad food, might get it balanced). get back to nature, move, socialize, laugh, cut off bad thoughts (forgive others and yourself, love yourself). find a purpose, do what makes you happy. keep getting out of the comfort zone. get stronger muscles through whatever you can do - step by step. do breathing exercises, meditate if you can. passiveness and feeling/behaving like a victim, anger and rumination - immobilizes us and attacks our own bodies. it is not easy, but there is a way to heal!

I see this geared at teens and young adults nowadays, great to hear the new generation is safer. There was not a single juvenile RA doctor in all of Canada back in 72 when my husband was diagnosed 48 years ago. Around age 8 was the first time he saw a specialist for JIA but only because it was a visiting doctor from the UK. He's lucky they started experimental treatments compared to before the 70s but he literally can't make his muscles bigger like her due to all the joint damage that occurred. So lucky nowadays to have TNF inhibitors. Disability rates should drop but only if they are covered (for people in US). Still, exercising, stretching especially, a good diet his whole life have helped him. But the fatigue is really showing now. It will be interesting to see if people like her can keep the fatigue away as she ages. Truly hope so.

You're doing a video on RA and you're advising us to ride bikes? I have very limited movement in my ankles and knees and my neck is ankylosed from my skull to my chest vertebra. I didn't resonate with this at all. It actually felt like a massive to do list and made me feel exhausted. The jumping and sprinting bit was also silly given the target audience...

I have Rheumatoid Arthritis and I can always get a great work out in....but just one. The next day my hands are swollen, i cant lift my arms because of shoulder pain, my wrists are completely swollen, etc. Medication or not, my RA has taken bodybuilding from me entirely. I was diagnosed 7 years ago. I've done everything. I don't remember the last time i had sugar. I eat everything that lowers inflammation and don't eat anything that triggers. I've done physical therapy. I've tried vegan, veg, carnivore diets. nothing works for my case. I'm a motorcycle mechanic, but won't be able to do it much longer. I'm getting to a point where im just giving up. I'm sure i did it to myself because i smoked cigs for 20 years. Now i'm living with it. I have no family history, otherwise, of RA.

Hi, what about dairy, please? She did not mention whether it has inflammatory effect, antinflammatory or even kind of neutral. Do you have any dairy in your elimination diets? What kinds? Thanks a lot

    • @djalpacalypse3841
      @djalpacalypse3841 Год назад +1

I've heard it effects everyone different. So it depends on your own body. The same with tomatoes, lemon, red meat, pork, etc. You have to see what works for you. But from everything I read, dairy has a protein in it that isn't good for RA. Some do fine with it but many get flare ups when consuming it. 🤷‍♂️

First off there is no cure for RA or AS. These patients can have this to hlab27 or a certain genetic disposition. They can have it seronegatively which is a bit less painful. Both conditions are extremely painful conditions and these patients manage the pain everyday and sometimes with biologic agents which are reducing the immunity to a point that they can die from a simple cold as their immune system is gone and unable fight to anything in expense of painfree days.
What this video prposes is to reduce inflammation by a certain dietary intake or activity. This helps for pain but never cures anything. A RA or AS patient can slow the progress of the disease but can never stop or reverse. They become disabled throughout time and this is a known fact in medicine. You can see in the comments that many saying that they try being active or eat healthy but still in pain. in the end this is how things work for them. Their pain sometimes beyond measure and they can look normal from outside.

The patient has a tone of problem, one of them is pain
how to release the pain is number one important of release
I ma agree to use exercise to reduce the pain. but is can not help
to recover. A great suggest to use a Canadian natural product to recover.
It is a Canadian FDA approved natural natural medicine.
It has been seen in Canada news paper. Try to use it
when you continue unable to get better. It is Arthron 5.
good luck and hope you feel better.

The cure is simply for most arthritis sufferers. All you need to do is remove the following from your diet - alcohol, refined sugar, flour, dairy, and saturated fats. And start eating more cruciferous vegetables, salads and drink more filtered water. That's it. Sadly very few have the self discipline to do it and would rather take medication.
