Way to go Brett! I'm the same as Brett, peaking at 215-220+ at 6' and having a larger build at 44 years old now. Down to 178 lbs so far after 9 months, it's been a piece of cake so to speak, eating a ton of tasty potatoes, rice and beans. Blood pressure down over 30 points systolic. My new jeans are 34" instead of 38" and even these are starting to get loose around the waist. My wedding ring is falling off now and I'm lighter and leaner than I was in high school!
I really appreciate these Star McDougaller videos. I needed to see some videos of actual older people who had switched to a healthy vegan diet. Very inspirational as well as informative.
My results mirror this guy's. One tip- make a huge pot of vegan 13 bean soup every Sunday, and it's dinner for the week. Cheap, delicious, easy, and lasts in fridge for a week.
allencrider, and HOW do we convince other to do this? To me, it is easy-peasy! I've been cooking/preparing and more recently growing my own food for a very long time...GOOD for you to get off the meds!
Looking great Brett! Diet is so powerful in how we look and feel, it's incredibly important to know about it. Thank you Dr McDougall for continuing to spread the message and educate people!
I wonder what he eats in the morning to keep him full during lunch. I substitute teach, get a 20-minute lunch and I just can't eat enough in that time (combined with a bathroom break especially) to hold me at all. This has been a real problem to me in trying to eat this way. Any thoughts out there?
For me, pureed soups (think split pea and barley [I have celiac, so use rice]) and smoothies are the easiest meals to add calories in a rush. I prep Smoothies before work and drink them at least over 20 minutes. I like soups best warmed, but again, use 20 minutes to slowly ingest. Yum.
How can you tell if you have 'familial hypercholesterolaemia'? Or dietary induced high cholesterol? I'm only 28, a year ago I had 6.38 cholesterol, vegan 2 months, its down to 5.40. But that's still very high and concerning.....
I have familial hypercholesterolemia. Nothing but meds will reduce my total chol or LDL and I hate meds. I've tried various dietary/exercise approaches over the years because I won't take the meds but nothing really brings it down. I have been vegan for about six months and am scheduled to do labs within a couple of weeks. Then, I will find out how well a vegan diet (rarely use oil, either) that is also low fat has helped my numbers. Getting the numbers down takes time; two months of veganism is great, just keep going with it and eliminate fats and simple sugars if you haven't done so already. Good luck!
BraidedLily I'm interested to know more about your case and whether you've improved with low fat vegan diet. If you have the time, drop me a quick update message with your result numbers, as it will give me an idea if this low fat vegan diet works or not. Thanks.

This is very inspiring. What a gift to give your employees, too.
This is great! First time I’ve heard of an employer motivating their employees to become aware of the health benefits of a WFPB diet. Love it!
This guy is typical. I've been doing McDougall and got off my blood-pressure meds after only a couple of months.

Give it six months to a year (and eliminate oil if you haven't done so). You'll be better off no matter the outcome.
