love you content dude keep up the good work❤❤
I knew the Avengers were going to beat Thanos in Endgame and the Rebels would overcome the Empire in Return of the Jedi. Neither movie was ruined by a predictable conclusion.
This is a great take my friend
That’s probably the most accurate way to describe it. It’s more about the journey not the destination.
Well said!
Yeah, and on the way, plenty of unpredictable things happened in those movies; Darth Vader betraying Palpatine to save Luke, or Tony Stark using the infinity stones to kill Thanos, therefore, sacrificing himself. In this case, the entire match was the unpredictable thing. People need to remember that sometimes, the path is equally or more important than the ending.
Well said
"These are theater kids who worked out a ton" is such a good description of wrestlers 😂
I agree with so many other people in here too. "Knowing" that someone was going to retain didn't change the fact that I was excited to watch the story unfold. I was also wrong about the tag team winner, I thought that Jade and Bianca were going to retain, or that Zoey and Shayna were going to win, the Unholy Union winning wasn't even on my mind.
Uk pantomime. Predictable
It’s kind of our own fault that matches are predictable. We’re the big fans digging deep into these shows and giving ourselves insight and answers
I disagree, broadly.
There are instances where deep diving can reveal truly unexpected spoiler information. Most good storylines can be reasonably predicted if you have a halfway decent understanding of literary tropes, three act storytelling structure, the heroes journey, or even just a knowledge of wrestling over the last fifty or so years.
As the guy in the video and SantiZap said, predictable != Bad. No one left "Titanic" mad because the ship sank. You can still get invested, despite knowing things.
CM Punk literally said he might come to Glasgow and do this. I’m not sure if he was meant to because he only said it once and then disappeared from TV. But it should have been obvious to casual viewers as well as IWC.
"These are theater kids that worked out a bunch"
One of the funniest yet accurate description of a pro wrestler lol
I remember I was in a Screenwriting class for University a few years ago, one of the quotes I took to heart the most, as much in writing as in consuming, was "Sometimes, One plus One is allowed to equal Two."
17:42 SO HEAR ME OUT…Drew getting screwed was overall the right choice considering the next 2 PLEs; Money in the Bank, then Summerslam. Whoever the WHC is he’ll have to face & loose to Gunther at Summerslam (I mean, COME ON-it’s Gunther) wether the MITB contract is a factor or not. So if Drew didn’t get screwed and actually won the WHC; his title reign would last 1-2 months MAX. This way not only fuels the Drew v Punk match when it inevitably happens, but it also give Drew the opportunity to become MR Money in the Bank in a way that fits his hypocritical character PERFECTLY. :P
That would be cool lol
Damian Priest is going to beat Gunther, wait and see. HHH loves him.
As somebody who was there, in relation to Piper v Bayley I think it was due to both having awful theme songs and the crowd being divided over who to root for as Piper is Scottish and Bayley is so lovable
Totally fair
It was more that the crowd was burnt out. Piper does have a terrible entrance theme though but I know if she was the first Scottish wrestler to come out that night, she would have definitely had a better reaction. The second to last match often has this happen. It's generally the worst spot on the card. It's also why the crowd was quiet. Confused on who to cheer for equals mixed reaction, not silence. It was purely burn out.
Also, this is such a cool perspective ever since i came across this channel to hear from somebody who just got into wrestling coming from somebody whose essentially been a wrestling fan his entire life (on and off again to be fair)Like the fact you never seen an “i quit” match is crazy cuz those have been so legendary. i’ve been trying to get back into wrestling pretty much around the same time you started so it’s almost like im on this journey with you lmfao. I love your videos man keep up the great work!!
Thank you! Happy to have you along for the journey!
Predictability isn’t always a bad thing. I think if a match is predictable but you even have a moment of uncertainty about what you thought was obvious then it’s a mission accomplished.
Another time I think it’s okay is when it serves to start or forward a bigger story.
I also think that you kind of need predictable things to happen in order for unpredictable things to leave an impact.
True. If everything is unpredictable, none of it is even exciting lol
Plus a good story needs predictability. If everything is unpredictable, that actually equates to the plot making zero sense. Twists are good too, but you're supposed to be able to look ahead with certain things to an extent.
You know that the prince will slay the dragon each time. Doesn’t make it any less satisfying when it does happen.
People like to complain because they like to complain. I was more interested in how it would happen.
It's great to see your channel grow more and more as time goes on. It's well deserved, keep doing great man 💯
That means a lot. Thank you!
Very fun fact, I was at Smackdown in Pittsburgh last Smackdown before the draft it was the first night the we went Roman chants started, it was with Paul heyman and solo in the ring
Never with Cody, proving Dporticus's point.
@@Optilliam Bro why curse, I'm just seconding what you said.
@@baffourappiah3853 I apologize, I was just angry at the moment
@@Optilliam No worries man, Its all good.🙂
@@Optilliam No worries man, Its all good.🙂
Told you your first video you will become big and will collab with big people your vibe and energy always hit off since the first video love you bro 🎉
i don’t mind knowing the outcome, as long as the build up and execution of it is still superb. for example, the way that cm punk slid into the ring and the camera angle made it look like an actual referee, and then he stops counting, with the camera finally showing Punk. Everybody knew he was gonna interfere, but nobody knew how. and that imo, is the best way to go about going through with a predictable result
I love your takes it's so refreshing as a wrestling fan. I can't wait for more videos. ❤
Thank you!
So glad Santi introduced me to your channel. Keep up the good work, uce
Appreciate it!
The way the match ended is a call back to some I quit matches of the past
I am going to be honest, I did NOT see WWE screwing Drew in his home country, huge international PWE, by having CM Punk bluff his 3 count after the crowd had a perfect 10 count 😳🤯
Great Video I Think You Should Do Dome Old Wrestling Show Watch Alongs And Raw,SmackDown, NXT, PPV. Keep Up The Good Work
Predictably- I dont mind being wrong. I'm here for the ride. I'm a fan, not a journaist.
Chad Sami - We are very like minded. Obviously they both can wrestle great.... but the story/drama is the draw!!
Piper Bayley (& Damian) - Mid theme music doesn't help.
Drew Punk - Soo like minded. Doesn't need a title.
"We Want Roman" - It is insane that you have a better grasp than a lot these long time toxic folk. Don't get baited by them. You are a wrestling YTer sent from heaven.
😆 that's one heck of a compliment. Thank you
People who say “doesn’t need a title” miss the point that the title gets devalued if it’s not on the biggest stars and in the best matches. And the best matches get devalued if they’re not the main event. If Drew/Punk is the undercard to a Damian Priest match that’s just stupid.
@jaybee4288 I hear what you're saying, but I disagree. I think "doesn't need a title" simply means the story is interesting enough that the match doesn't need additional stakes to sell tickets. This doesn't mean it CANT involve the title. It's simply complimenting how well the story is being told.
Also, just saying. Good stuff with the channel. I came across your channel after seeing the collab between you and Santi. I've been a fan of WWE for 26 years and I'm enjoying seeing commentary from a fan who's fairly new to all of this.
I appreciate it!
A little bit off topic but it does have to do with match results being predictable. So as a hockey fan this is what I tell people, I’ll drop $200-$500 for a ticket to a wrestling event because I’m going for the show, the overall experience, regardless of how the outcome of the matches go. What I can’t do is justify dropping that amount of money on a NHL game because I don’t know if I’m going to have a good time… I’m a Habs fan.
I actually have a video coming out relatively soon that kind of touches on this!
TBH Otis's angle with Mandy Rose in 2019-2020 was what brought me back to watching wrestling this most recent time. He's quite the Charismatic performer and if there would have been a live crowd at Wrestlemania 36 Otis would have received the biggest pop.
I was just beginning to form the the thoughts that this dude has a better understanding of the story telling aspect and things like ring psychology than most people I've known just a year or so into their fandom , just in time for the I quit match part of the video to put an end to that... In all seriousness, your hunger to learn the inner workings and behind the scenes stuff really shows. I look forward to watching you go from bright eyed rookie wanting to absorb all the knowledge to curmudgeonly old veteran that thinks everything sucks compared to "the good old days"
I'll do whatever I can to avoid that transformation lol
I was there for Clash in person on Saturday night ... for context in terms of the Piper and Bayley match. By that point in the night, a lot of us were probably tired at that point. The entrances happened around 8pm, doors opened at 5pm and many of us (myself included) had been at the arena since the middle of the day and it was quite warm on the day. The Bayley and Piper match came at the point where the energy dipped.
i was there also and if i am honest, i just didnt care for that match.... i wasnt tired, infact i was just getting started. Piper was forced down our throats just for the simple fact she is Scottish, nobody in there really cared about her in general before that PPV...
@@ItsGraph. fair enough. I certainly wasn't saying that everyone was tired at the point. Just that it was the point in the show where people who were tired (or getting fired) would've been the most affected by it. Like you suggest, it could've been for many that they just weren't that into the match.
About the ropes, apparently they were a little loose. You could see the ref telling AJ about it at one point before the match started, there are threads about it on twitter. Jade hit that move perfectly before so that botch wasn’t on her.
There was a botch in nearly each match that involved the ropes (Jade and Priest springboard spots, Sami and I think Cody trying to clothesline their op over the ropes). I guarantee the ropes tension was off, probably too tight.
I have briefly trained for pro wrestling, if you're used to the ropes at a certain stiffness, and you try to work at a stiffness even slightly off at full match speed, it will throw off your timing with everything you do.
I knew the ropes were a problem the minute Sami and Chad had this moment. They NEVER botch lmao.
I don't usually mind knowing who's going to win a match. I can still enjoy the match, but in the case of Drew vs Damien I was already expecting CM Punk to come out and cost Drew the match since someone posted Punk in a store in Scotland the day before the show. Social media unfortunately can really ruin some of the magic in wrestling imo. If I didn't know Punk was already there I would've believed Drew was going to win 100%. The match itself was really great though, just wish Punk was more of a surprise for me
I was also pretty confident punk would get involved, so I'm glad they were so creative with it where it still took me by surprise the way it happened.
Ill quote MrSantiZap here "its okay for 2+2 to equal 4" i will also say that my first I Quit match confused me too. It was John Cena vs Batista at Over the Limit 2010, and I thought loser actually quit. Then understanding during the match that wasnt the case. But then having Batista actually quit the very next night on Raw was even more confusing!
Also, knowing the outcome of a match is one thing. But knowing HOW that outcome occurs is something we'll never truly know. That 'how' is what determines quality.
Chelsea with the Rey mask made me laugh so hard I loved it so much, had a great time … which it’s all about
On the ropes front ... there's a video of the ref speaking to AJ before Cody's entrance and shaking the ropes. So it looks very possible that the ropes were not set up completely right and were looser than usual.
I think it is all about the journey that we are lead on to get to the end, even if we think we know how the journey will end.
One of the Best I Quit matches ever, i was on peacock looking for I quits and there just havent been alot of them in recent years
This is honestly my favorite wrestling channel right next to sooplex
Well dang! That's a high compliment. Thank you!
Uncle Howdy and the rest of the Wyatt Six will probably show up tonight on raw. Last week's qr code led us to a countdown timer that basically led us to today at 8 o'clock which is weird because that means the timer ends at the start of the show which means Uncle Howdy might show up at the very beginning or it might be that Uncle Howdy shows up at the beginning and then the other members make their presence known throughout the show attacking and disrupting matches. After all one of the qr codes did say the time for salvation is over and a massacre is coming so this idea would make sense.
Boring
I 100% agree with you about botches. I honestly hate that everything looks so perfect all the time. There isn’t one sport where a player doesn’t slip or stumble or something at some point in their career.
99% of things people call botches arent things people notice unless they are going out of their way to find em.
Facts!
I watched a moron accidentally tap out in her title defense, right in the camera, at a huge ple, when the company is trying to shove her down our throats as an unstoppable badass. Let's hear the excuse for that.
And I hate so much when people hate on wrestlers for botching. Like, dude, shit happens, they do these moves every week, at least once they're gonna place their foot in the wrong place or jump before they're supposed to jump. They're acting like fucking Vince McMahon.
@@xLanzer what do you call someone accidentally tapping out? That's not a misstep. That's being green as grass and an awful performer.
I actually like it when they botch sometimes if they recover well and don’t seriously hurt themselves, keeps the realism alive and it’s also funny hearing the commentary make up excuses for it.
Knowing the ending of a match isn't an issue at all individually, but imo when every single match is predictable it does make it more boring, you need a nice balance of both (which I think this PLE did perfectly at tbh)
Knowing the winner can be tedious. It can rob the drama and make it much harder to buy-in and suspend disbelief.
Knowing how too many matches on a show will end can be draining and stifle excitement.
Being predictable is honestly better to me most times as I like to see how to reach that conclusion. As for jade the only thing I really dislike is her tapping twice unintentionally. It you want to see a "real" I Quit match...you need to see the rock/mankind (mick foley) match. One of the realest ones imo...that or the edge one the year before you started watching. Would be great for patreon. Make sure you didnt miss punk doing the pose with the 2 drew did on the punk grave shirt.
As for the priest botch, it was 100% a mistake sadly. The ropes are ghin steel cables and they would never take that risk with such momentum as it can do a TON of damage...case and point and incident like that is how mick folly had his ear cut off. He got his neck caught up in the ropes and it ripped his ear off.
False finishes are worthless and only garner performative excitement if the outcome is predictable.
I am personally enjoying CM Punk haunting the narrative. Especially with his post-show spiel, promising that McIntyre will never hold the title again...ugh so much fun! Also, if that injury from Damian was real, he is incredible for finishing the match and using all the moves he did. I am forever stunned how a man of his size is so crazy athletic...
It's about the journey, not the destination. The feud was amazing, the segments on point, the matches fucking FIRE. The result doesn't matter.
I couldn't watch live since I had to work, but all that matters to me is Bayley won. Now both her and Izzy are champions, which is awesome. If you don't know, Izzy was Bayley's #1 fan when she was in NXT and she became a character as part of Bayley's rise. Now she wrestles on the independent scene with Mission Pro Wrestling in San Antonio.
Predictable isn't always bad. It depends on the execution. They could have mishandled this terribly as they have done a lot in the past. But they did it perfect. They made Priest look amazing. They feuled the fire with the Punk/Drew feud.
This also helps in the future because now Drew isn't going to hold the title just til Summerslam and then lose it to Gunther. Because let's face it, they've booked Gunther to win at Summerslam since the moment they put that crown on him.
Edit: Oh you're talking about the Styles/Cody match? Well the same applied. They did it well, not a fan of hardcore matched myself but it was enjoyable for what it was and a little storytelling thrown in there made it better. Execution was Good, therefore it being Predictable is not bad
i really enjoyed Clash at the castle ! :D was fun to see Cm Punk back
Both predictability and surprises are fine, as long as the storytelling is good and satisfying. We knew Cody was going to win, but I think HOW he won was the important part. We saw the nice guy professional facade crack slightly as he was ready to seriously maim AJ or worse
I thought for sure Bayley was going to be injured when she landed on her neck/head by that one sit out slam by Piper (Idk what they call Piper's version of the move) I'm glad she was able to finish the match and walk out on her own. Overall this was a great show, can't wait to see what next.
When you know how a match is going to end is when you judge people's pro wrestling ability. That's twice now that AJ put on a masterclass and shows why he's been there for so long. Also, what a lot of the younger talent should learn, it's not about using all your big moves in quick succession, it's about telling a story. When every move is special, none of your moves are special. That said, I wasn't a fan of the finish, everything else was amazing. And you're absolutely right about botches, the Jade one took a bit of momentum out of the match, while Drew showed the more experienced way to handle it, if it was not a planted botch, because it has been done before. Mick Foley did this move with his head between the ropes and it was dangerous but planned.
I don't think predictability is a bad thing tbh. As the old cliché says "it's not about the destination, it's about the journey"'... while I don't fully agree with that concept overall, I think it still has a bunch of merit. So, a lot of the time, I don't care that the outcome is predictable as it doesn't bring down the quality of the match ... granted that caveat is highly subjective. But in the case of Styles and Rhodes, I don't think the predictability hurt the match at all. It was still a great match.
In terms of Styles quitting ... I do think it would have been better if the risk was worse than the steps. I totally agree with the concept of a heel quitting because the face is about to severely hurt them. I'm just not sure that the steel steps are enough of a threat to make AJ quit given the story.
As someone that’s watched pro wrestling for over 30 years a ton of things in a match and the ending tend to be predictable but it isn’t about the end it’s about the journey along the way and that’s what keeps me excited for professional wrestling.
Not only do we have the Drew/Punk Fallout and the Gable fallout, but a massacre is coming too.
*The only time they chanted we want Roman to Cody was once which was the night rock came out to face Cody before talking his break after WM*
They chanted thank you Roman that night not we went Roman
As optilliam already said, they chanted "thank you roman" that night.
As a wrestling fan who grew up loving the sport must of us have learned how to come to terms with knowing the outcome of a match/storyline but to a new fan I can see how that would be very difficult. At this point, as a fan, i have some people I would love to see a champ like chad gable to name a person. but overall i just want to see compelling stories and good matches.
The internet wrestling community particularly X/Twitter is the reason why IWC has such a bad rap
I really enjoyed the smackdown in rosemont/chicago. Crowd always great there. Ppvs best there.
I thought the Cody Aj finish would be like Bret vs Stone Cold, where Aj would lose because he passed out, but once the ref said he gotta say the words I quit had me wondering what was going to happen. Then when I seen Aj go up to mama Rhodes I thought he was going to do something to her that would make Cody just say I quit to protect her.
I have been watching pro wresting since I was a little kid with my dad. Watching WCW and WWF since before I formed memories. I have been watching wrestling for a long time. I'm not saying I never get surprised anymore but if I give up on any match because I know how it is going to end, I wouldn't like most of them. I liked the end of the I quit match. The way AJ said it was important for the narrative. AJ said Cody would not have what it takes to pull the trigger. So the end of the match was AJ quitting before Cody had the chance to pull the trigger because he realized he was wrong. And then Cody did the damn thing anyway. I get why someone wouldn't like it but I was into it. I have been enjoying Cody as champ overall.
i was thinking that maybe AJ would threaten Mama Rhodes while Cody was handcuffed. Would’ve been a great heel moment for AJ, and give Cody a way to lose without looking weak
I was kinda convinced that Chad gable would leave champion tonight but I can’t wait to see what he dose next
The Rock vs Mankind, Royal Rumble '99. The I-Quit match stipulation/referee with the microphone thing may seem less... silly, I dunno! Also, Magnum TA vs Tully Blanchard from StarrCade '85... but you're probably not ready for that yet. Do recommend both those matches though. 😀 Also, knowing what's going to happen in a match... apparently doesn't bother me all that much. I'll sign on with the "predictable doesn't mean bad" side.
As someone who is also a new fan (2 months), I don't really care if I know the conclusion of a match. With Cody v AJ, the in-ring action was good, and the storytelling was good, and maybe I'm a mark or whatever but there were a few points were I did think that Cody might quit. IMO, all the matches were at least 70/100. (Best being Drew v Damian, 'worst'/least good being Bayley v Piper, triple threat being an unexpected really good match.)
Raw isn’t just must watch for those follow ups for Drew and Alpha Academy, but also for the Wyatt6 seemingly having its official debut
True!
I thought there was no chance Dawn and Fyre won the tag titles, that kind of set the tone for the rest of the night for me, I did not think Bailey would lose or Drew would win, but the doubt was there.
It depends. Not all matches or wrestlers do I care what the outcome is. When it is a wrestler I like who wins and I knew was going to win I just enjoy the ride. For example Roxanne Perez vs jordynne grace I knew Roxy was winning but the match was fire. Roxanne surprised me with how she never allowed jordynne to overpower her. All these matches for clash I got correct except Bianca and Jade. The longer you watch wrestling the more you know who will win. So at some point you just gotta get past the winners and losers. It’s about storytelling and where will they go into the future.
I think for priest tho he could really have broke his leg so we worried about his heath over a botch. Those rope are dangerous when u get tangled up without knowing
I don't particularly care if I know who's winning before the match starts if the story is good. I also understand that only a few people are seen on Cody's level of star power and AJ is not one of them. He's been in the upper midcard for a while and he's in the last few years of his career. This isn't the moment and they're not gonna take the title from Cody now. I guess that makes his reign predictable until he starts dealing with the Bloodline again or until he faces Randy Orton. If Drew McIntyre, CM Punk, Gunther or Seth Rollins were in the same brand as Cody or if Roman was around more often, then Cody would have more competition, let alone if The Rock or Cena were around. That's not the situation and until Randy Orton, Roman Reigns or The Rock come into the picture, or until the winner of Money in the Bank perhaps cashes in on Cody, nobody is gonna take the title from him.
I don’t care, I said Cody wasn’t going to quit but not for that reason, I felt Cody as a character wouldn’t quit as the babyface of the company….predictable doesn’t equal bad match, same way as a match with an unpredictable winner doesn’t necessarily make it a good match
I was most bothered by the women's tag team and IC Title match. WTT more so because it seemed like they were finally building the belt but they just used the belts to push Jade and Bianca.
Damian also needs better story. He just seems like a supporting character in his feuds.
I don't mind if a match is predictable, I just want a good match. I rewatch movies ad naseum and I know every story beat in the movie. I watch it because I enjoy the movie. That's what I want out of my wrestling.
My fav hobby as a wrestling fan is to ignore the opinions of other wrestlfing fans 🙏🙏 for example, people dont like damien priest for some reason? After ive heard his story, I love him and I think he deserves that belt more than anybody.
On your point about botches, one of the most devastating super finishers of all time was created by a botch. In this video "ruclips.net/video/GVxz0EpCArg/видео.html&ab_channel=ThunderFilez" the first guy taking the move does not rotate enough to land on his back and lands on his neck and shoulders. Creating a move that ended some of the biggest matches of his career. I believe the Claymore Kick was also invented from a botch. Good things can come from botches but at Clash at the Castle it looked like the ropes were loose, AJ Styles even let the referee know before his match.
You may know how the match will end but you don’t know HOW it will reach that conclusion. That’s the main reason why I don’t care if the outcome is predicable. We can’t predict what will happen IN the match itself and its the matches themselves that I latch on to
I'm okay with knowing the ending just depends how the match goes I agree
Its usually kids (younger people) who have a problem with knowing what is going to happen. Its the same with jumpscares in horror movies; adults tend to not like it because it has no value to the story, while kids thinks that is the main point of it. Basically, its about what you are looking for; a great story with excellent performance or being shocked and getting that rush.
I dont mind being shocked, but it has to be done really well. That is hard to do when the person knows the storyline and all motivations. A random shock from nothing ruins the story. I mean, if the Rock turned up and bodyslammed anyone, it would be shocking. It wouldnt be good though.
ALSO all those asshats who are whining they want Roman now, probably hated him when he was a face or complained when he wasn’t around. So I repeat, people like to complain for the sake of complaining.
if you watch enough wrestling it becomes easy to predict the card. and yet sometimes you get a surprise. for me it was the tag team match, i predicted the champs retain and baszler/stark take the L, furthering the storyline with sonya deville. that way fyre/dawn are protected in the home country, the champs looks strong, possible match at MitB between them - win win. so i was pleasantly surprised (then again the scots have to get a win somewhere and the other matches sure as hell would not be it). so even if you know, or at least think so, how it is gonna end, just enjoy the ride.
Cody/AJ match ended really anti-climactic. glad i'm not the only one who thinks so.
Jade botch was not bad, that happens and she easily recovered like a seasoned vet.
6:10 well said aj is the only guy who turn the smallest botch in to an angle or a modified move
there's nothing wrong with predictability as long as it makes sense. doing a swerve simply to subvert expectations and get nothing in return is pointless and stupid. that's how things were in 2018-2021. do we really want to go back to those days? i don't think so. and there are still surprises happening, like i totally didn't see the tag team title change coming yet it still happened, so yeah
Even if I KNOW the outcome of a match (like the Cody/AJ match) I don't care as long as it's a GOOD match. And Cody vs AJ was an absolute banger (as Sheamus would say). There was never a doubt in my mind that Cody would walk away retaining the belt, but was I entertained? 100%. And that's what matters at the end of the day.
They did a subtle tease of Cody Rhodes vs Randy Orton. Randy was looking at Cody's title. And I'll be honest as much as I wanna see Cody vs Randy at Summerslam. I think that could be a mistake. It's going to be difficult for WWE to get people to boo Randy Orton. He's reached legend status where everyone just adores him now. It could make the crowd turn on Cody and I don't want that to happen
Sometimes wrestling can be predictable (I actually got 5 out of 5 in my predictions for The Clash 😂) that doesn't mean it's bad, it's actually quite fun to see if your predictions happen (yes, I thought Punk would cost Drew the title somehow) it's all down to watching WWE/WWF and other wrestling (WCW, TNA, AEW, etc) for over 30 years now, you can guess what's coming a lot of the time, I still enjoy watching it, the longer you watch it youll eventually be doing the same dude...incidentally if you want to see a good I Quit match Rock vs Mankind at Royal Rumble 99, classic
I don't think it's about the ending as a whole - but the circumstancesand context behind the ending. What the ending means.
Prime example, Roman Reigns Vs Brock Lesnar at WM34. We all at the time KNEW Roman was going to win - finally slay the beast so we can start this face of the company reign people were sick of waiting for...
And then Brock won.
Absolute shambles because of everything surrounding it. The years of slogging through attempt after attempt of Roman trying to win with his pretty dry promos and Brock never showing up with the belt.
More recent example, Cody and Roman as of the most recent wrestlemania (As of the T.O.P). We all knew Cody was winning that belt - didn't sap a single ounce of fun from it.
Story wise, last night result in the Drew v Priest match, was the only thing that made sense. What Punk did will elevate their feud to something generational.
You should watch Cena vs Orton I quit match at breaking point, fantastic match imo
Oh man you want a good I quit match, catch Rock vs Mankind at Royal Rumble 1999. It's a bit rough if you are squeamish, but it's a perfect example of obvious booking being done in a way where you really can't tell halfway in who is going to win. I haven't kept up with WWE lately, so I don't know about this card, but having AJ Styles just casually give up sounds like it probably sounded better in the agents head. I saw his stuff in WCW, TNA, and NJPW. That's a weird ending for anyone, but especially for him, so it's probably the fault of whatever agent put the match together. I don't mind predictable, I don't really mind if it's any good, as long as it isn't lazy.
I am glad you are enjoying the story the CM Punk has been put into, I love seeing people enjoy wrestling, but as a wrestler and a human being, I think he needs to go. They are leaning in to Punk's reputation to bypass valid criticism of his non story behavior. At what point does someone need to step in for actors and crew behind the scenes? Do you think his behavior is acceptable, because they turned it into a story? What crimes is a wrestler allowed to commit if they use it for a story? Would you be cool with Vince McMahon coming back after learning he had been raping several women across 5 decades as long as he comes back as Vince "The Rapist" McMahon?
The curtain is so far back at this point most fans can't recognize that there are still things you aren't being told unless it affects you directly. There are still boys protecting boys, and there are people backstage right now that you've never heard of, likely will never hear of, that are genuinely suffering because of his style of abuse, and other people are overlooking it because of his position in the company. What are they going to do, tell and never work in the industry again? I am talking people whose jobs have to be invisible to make the show work, ring crew, camera operators, people who build the stages, emt's, managers, writers, all the personal assistants, makeup, wardrobe, and that's not even considering people who don't work directly for WWE like arena security and any local talent they bring in for a squash match. I don't care about CM Punk the character, I am not interested in it, because I know he is going to use that fame to hurt people in real life. I just wish more people gave a shit.
Knowing a match ending isn’t an issue when the story they tell to get there or the moves being done are entertaining. Now, something like Chads situation. I don’t know how they couldn’t have given him the belt yet. It feels like Chad has become a yard stick for wrestlers to show of their skills.
I will echo many of the comments that sometimes knowing how it'll end isn't a bad thing. But I will counter with this - one of my major problems with wrestling as a whole is that it's WAY TOO predictable, especially at the top of the card. I don't think the World Title scene has been genuinely unpredictable for like 20 years. I have this problem with WWE and AEW. The main event of a PPV is wayyyy better if I feel like it could go either way. This is why they try to make most Wrestlemania main events seem like they could go either way. We knew Cody would win. And I, personally at least, always felt Punk would screw Drew out of the title in this match. I want more believable Main Events, which means anyone could win. Why are you a title contender if we don't actually believe you could win the title?
I know this will never happen but I want Maxine to be the one to take down Gable in a match. It would be so satisfying.
The match between Cody and AJ was never about if Cody would say I quit, it was could Cody the Babyface take AJ to a place that he would Quit.
DP: I can’t wait to see what happens with Chad Gable and the Alpha Academy on Raw!
Chad Gable on Raw: *dies*
🤣
My only gripe with the show was I thought they should’ve pulled the trigger with gable but I think he wins it at mitb
Cody and AJ had a banger match the ending was just really abrupt
Alba and Isla definitely lacked having lead up matches for a long time before winning the titles. It shouldn't have happen that way.
Im pretty sure punk said that he will not be on raw cause hes going to Chicago or wherever to see about being cleared. So dont expect him to be there. Aside from that i agree monday is must see tv this week not just for gables development in that story but the wyatt faction and massacre. Im sure drew will be there to have a segment too but punk wont be there. He did say he might pop by on smackdown tho. So im sure he will respond then about whatever drew says monday. I love when wwe is like this and theres just various storys and story beats on both brands just ever so slightly progressing. Some weeks they gotta spin their wheels on some storys cause otherwise they would blow thru storys way to fast. So i get pacing out story beats by weekly or weekly depending on ppvs etc but when its on its on point.
Tbh drew is the one I want to hear from anyway 😆
@@Dporticus lol oh im sure he will not be a happy guy. The real scottish psychopath will show up. With all the massacre talk and both gable and drew snapping at clash of the castle im kinda wondering if the entire show will just be nonstop beat downs on any and everyone. Lol
I thought the PLE was pretty good. I knew Cody was going to win, same with Bayley and I thought Bianca & Jade would retain, but I'm happy that The Unholy Union ended up winning the Women’s Tag Championship, I had a feeling Sami was going to retain I think Chad will win the IC title at Summerslam and I wanted Drew to win but I had a feeling Punk was going to screw McIntyre so they can continue their feud, so I'm fine with how it went down lol.
Something being predictable is okay, it's all about execution for me at least
Here’s some “i quit” matches that are worth while, Beth phoenix vs Melina, John cena vs Batista, ric flair vs mick foley, the rock vs mankind. And you’re one the decent ones on RUclips.
Do you watch Brian Zane or wrestling bios ?
And one final comment because I don’t want to spam you, AJ is off to Japan! Wheee.
This man is spitting facts.
Your dog thinks you have lost it 😂 .... watching him watch you talk to yourself gave me the giggles 😂
I enjoy seeing his reactions when I'm editing 😆
@Dporticus BTW, If want to see something really cool? Check out Lucha Underground ... a wrestling promotion started by movie director Robert Rodriguez.... and Ricochet was a masked luchador named "Prince Puma!" ... also, he was their World Champion 🏆 it got crazy good ... then it eventually fell apart and died but it was awesome while it lasted💯💯
