I watched WWE from the attitude era, through the ruthless aggression era and into the PG era.
Smackdown was a recap show for Raw for most of it's existence, RAW was being re-written by McMahon on the day of the show for chunks of it's last decade plus.
Stories would appear, fixed out or just get forgotten about.
What was in Shane's lock box?, why did Shane lose to taker and still become a GM?
I say through all of that and at no point was thinking "this is great wrestling story telling". Less said about the nonsense with Sting the better.
This is honestly the best time to get in to WWE, and I'm glad you are enjoying the product, but we all had it rough for years if not almost two decades.
The best thing WWE has done from an old-school Prowrestling standpoint in the last decade was NXT from 2014 until it left the Network. Storytelling mixed with amazing and some not so amazing wrestling.
Much more like what many fans who left WWE to watch AEW wanted as a product. Watch TakeoverDallas or Takeover Brooklyn and you will see an entirely different product from the current WWE output.
Juxtapose that with the main roster output of the time and a lot of fans frustrations will be clear.

    - Segments often don't have time to breathe.
    - There are too many titles.
Another one is that they have such a BIG roster and such amazing talent, but we never see a lot of them, or they're in crappy feuds.
Their biggest show will probably be All In - Sunday 25th August at Wembley Stadium in London. It'll be the second time they've done it and it's a massive stadium show. Last year's was AMAZING.

AEW ppvs typically are not quite as long as this one they usually go for about 4 hours. They are also usually not so chaotic the point of the anarchy in the arena match was just that pure chaos but that match only happens once a year. Don't get me wrong AEW is more violent and chaotic than WWE but this was a level they only take it once in a great while. Part of the reason for this is that Double or Nothing is there second biggest show of the year and is basically the equavalent of WWE's summerslam so this was a special event. You mentioned you wil probabably buy there Wrestlemania equavalent this year that will be All In on August 25 and wil be AEW's second year in a row having the show at Wembly Stadium in London. As far as the amout of titles go that is a common critacism of AEW but keep in mind Tony Khan also owns another wrestling company Ring Of Honor so some of the titles where for that company. Also Jon Moxley defended the IWGP title wich is the world title for New Japan Pro Wreslting. They have a working relationship with AEW so since Moxley wrestles for both comapnys they allow him to defned it in AEW plus they have a joint PPV coming up in June so this allows them to setup a story for that title at the Forbidon Door PPV. Sorry for the info dump and I hope i explained things well I just love AEW and figured I'd try give a little context.

Dude, you're are the exact kind of wrestling fan we need more of in this community. I can understand preferring one over the other (I'm an AEW fan myself), but to not "Pick a Side" and acknowledge AEW's strengths is what needs to be done.
AEW is more about the Matches themselves than the stories, though they can tell interesting stories when they really want. That one with all the Insane stuff you mentioned is actually part of a Corporate Takeover story, for example. On the otherside, WWE focuses on storytelling, while occasionally having good matches to back it up. You actually jumped into WWE at a good time, as recent changes have happened to make WWE much better than it used to be.
We need both companies to keep succeeding, as well as smaller promotions (TNA, GCW, MLW, ect.), so that we can see new talents grow and have more to enjoy down the road. Anyone who wants either promotion to "Fail" is being an idiot.
Keep enjoying what you enjoy. Great video.

To be completely transparent, I've mostly watched AEW since it started in 2019. As someone who grew up watching WCW, AEW reminds me a lot of WCW mixed with ECW/NJPW/Lucha & Indy styles. One of my main reasons for enjoying AEW so much is the different styles youll get every week. That may take a while to get used to compared to the wwe style.
I've always preferred the grittiness and felt like WWE is way to clean and over produced for my tastes. I've always felt like Wrestling was this "sideshow" that pops up in towns. Puts up a ring, invites people to the matches and then packs up and leaves. Lol. AEW does what they can with production...quite frankly it's just something they don't have the budget for to go crazy like WWE does.
AEW definitely doesn't shy away from violence and blood but DON did have some of the most extreme matches they do. The only other is Blood & Guts which is basically a wargames type match.
Anyways glad you enjoyed it for the most part. It's definitely understandable with wrestling practically being on every night of the week. If ya ever have any questions about anything feel free to message.

This was such a fun and refreshing video, dude! I hadn't seen your WWE videos, but a friend of mine followed your gaming content and was like "hey you should watch this, you love AEW". I really liked the way you approached this PPV and the way you laid out your reactions. I'm sure you've heard all of this, but there were a few things I wanted to comment:
    - Yes, the price is a sore point for some fans. I'm lucky enough to have disposable income, and before the recent additions, four $50 PPVs a year was completely doable and something I was happy to do to support the company. I'm really hoping MAX will give AEW a streaming deal soon, so it could make it much more affordable.
    - I think the thing with entrances is less "you don't know X yet" and more that AEW is a bit more grounded in reality. In WWE there is more of a degree of pageantry and spectacle, where in AEW, there *are* big entrances (Mercedes, Will Ospreay, Swerve), there are just comparatively less of them. The only show that could compare to a WWE show would be All In at Wembley (the August show), which is a show I think you'll enjoy if you decide to watch it.
    - MJF is very much The Guy. If you're interested in him, a great place to start would be his feud with Cody (someone familiar to you through WWE), which gives you a lot of his heel promos and a great match at Revolution 2020. The Punk feud has some great promos in it. My personal recommendation is his Iron Man match at Revolution 2023 with Bryan Danielson - it's a lot, but it's the best Iron Man match I've ever seen in 20+ years of being a fan.
    - WWE vs AEW, you've got it. 2 different forms of entertainment. Tribalism sucks and wrestlers having jobs is good.
    - Yes, there are too many matches in AEW, completely agree. But for me, WWE doesn't have enough matches. WWE shows frustrate me because they're 70% video package and only get 10-15 people on each show.
    - The trios match: the 3 sets of belts are 2 different companies' belts and a unified belt. They should each only be wearing one belt, but because the Bang Bang Gang are silly ridiculous over the top heels, they keep wearing all three belts.
    - Too many belts: Yeah, that's a thing. It's definitely worse because Tony Khan owns and runs both AEW and Ring of Honor, so there are those belts too. AEW also has working partnerships with CMLL and New Japan, so when wrestlers from there appear, they bring their belts and AEW talent can challenge for them. There is a hierarchy ("world" = top, "international/TNT/TBS" = midcard, anything else = gimmick-related) but it's still confusing for people who don't watch week to week.

If I had one wish it would be to have Longer stories and for AEW to forget about star rating and not put to much shine on other promotions. I would recommend watching some Dynimate, I watch both AEW and WWE. And I don’t catch a ton of Collision or Rampage.
All In at Wembley is their Wrestlemania.
And a lot of the stuff with titles is a ton of New Japan titles since they work closely with them. And the guys with 3 titles each is just a heel thing, it’s been combined through 2 different companies (bc they also own Ring of Honor never watched that but it’s not a bad show either).
I’m happy you liked it. I think most WWE fans would enjoy it if they gave it a chance.

I am glad you took the time to check out aew. Watch whatever you want to watch. I think people should be more open minded and love all wrestling.
Aew's weekly shows is when they build storylines. Aew's ppvs are meant to settle storyline disputes.
Lately, they have been adding more and more ppvs to the calendar year. When they first started, it was 4, and now it's 9 ppvs. It's good there making more money because of this, but sometimes the storyline seems rushed because of the 9 ppvs.
I agree that there were too many matches. I think at least 4 of the matches didn't need to be on that show.
Another thing I wanted to mention is that their 50/month ppv model will soon be a thing of the past one they sign a new deal with Warner Brothers and will be on HBO max. It could happen as early as July 2024.
But if you wanted to watch aews' wrestlemania show, watch aew all in. It's on Aug 25th this year. They should have 50k-60k fans this year.

This is the best "review" of AEW I have seen up to this point. Someone who just watched for the first time, is not biased towards one brand, and has an open mind as to how things can be different. As a fan of AEW since day 1 I will say that a lot of your complaints (which were valid) used to not be a problem in the past. The shows had much more story to them, it wasn't as rushed, and everything just flowed much better, so I 100% suggest watching an older PPV such as All Out or Full Gear of 2021.
Some questions I can answer are
The Trios titles held by the Bang Bang Gang are unified titles, they won all 3 sets of them. Now granted they should only be carrying around the 1 set of belts, but I guess its just to show that they are the unified champions.
The comment about there being to many titles (which I agree with) is because not every title is official with the company. Examples being the FTW title held my Chris Jericho is mainly a trophy for HOOK and his family, and the IWGP Championship held by Jon Moxley is from a different promotion, along with one of the sets of Trios titles which are from Ring of Honor.
They don't do too many over the top entrances mainly because there more focused on the in ring work and are trying to avoid the show becoming a "spectacle", I do think they could do some more big entrances on PPV, but I see why they don't.
I hope I could help some and am very happy to see someone in the community who understands how there are different tastes for pro wrestling and how there is no need to make fun of someone else for having a different preference.

When I made the complete switch from WWE to AEW before the pandemic, it gave me the impression that AEW is for hardcore wrestling audiences while WWE is a family-show. When they introduced the Forbidden Door, I had no idea who those Japanese wrestlers are (and the Japan-based wrestlers) from New Japan Pro Wrestling but they're damn good. I never heard of Minoru Suzuki since I watched a random brutal MMA match of him decades back (and I completely forgot about him) but he was part of it. The idea of working with a "rival" company was unheard of and AEW made that happen. When I went to Japan and watched NJPW live and they're tournament-based and not storyline-based. It is also a way to promote other wrestlers from lesser-known promotions unlike WWE who wanted it just about themselves (until recently but only with TNA and once with NJPW with Shinsuke Nakamura).
I am sticking with AEW because I want to watch a fight with a little bit of acting and not acting with wrestling. Heck, Roman Reigns will be whipped by AR Fox in real life IMO lol

And sometimes they have to rush over the story bits, because the matches are given substantial time. It was interesting to see an honest, unbiased first impression of them.

I can see where you're coming from with your criticism and I can agree with some of your points. Hopefully you continue to check out more AEW in the near future. Be on the lookout for All In at Wembley towards the end of the summer. MJF is literally the best in the business right now. He's a pure heel to his very core, but he's so fuckin' good at it that everyone loves him for it, so much so that it forced a weird babyface turn where he was still an asshole who was awkwardly TRYING to be good, and it was one of the best wrestling stories of the last decade.

  • @braceyoself_
    @braceyoself_ Месяц назад +2

I appreciated your perspective. Your criticisms are all valid.
I hope you will give Dynamite a chance for a few weeks. The shows aren't as overwhelming as the PPVs. Two hours, focused primarily on great wrestling. Yet you still get the interviews, storylines, and package videos sprinkled in.
The PPV pricing is definitely a steep barrier when compared to the WWE's peacock deal.
AEW PPVs are definitely stacked long, but the matches give you a little of everything. You get brawls, technical wrestling, high flyers, hardcore, storyline progression, and memorable moments.
The criticism on the number of titles is also fair. In my opinion, PPVs are naturally the time to showcase the champions and give them their shine. So you'll see more titles by nature of the type of event.
I also found your comments on the entrances interesting and something I haven't thought of much lately. When Cody was on AEW, he had a unique elevator entrance that was noteworthy. Sting's entrance also felt big. The Acclaimed's entrance raps were hitting hard for a while. House of Black got cool, stylized entrances (Julia Hart's entrances are awesome). I would like a little more uniqueness and oomph, in general.

6:38 he says this which sounds great, but WWE is lightyears ahead of AEW in nearly every way, there is no competition. WWE has gotten "better" because of the change in ownership. Vince and his entire crew that have been there for years are gone. The booking looks different, the production looks different, and fans are generally happy with it. Competition or the threat of AEW didn't cause that.
This dude has a good head on his shoulders and he has a positive outlook on things so he doesn't come off toxic. More fans should be that way.

@@michael-orian5773@Robbie_C was completely correct. The main event where the most insane stuff happened, was the first match (big match on a big AEW PPV event anyway) of this new bad guy group. Any one of those things done in that match should conceivably have injured and written someone off of AEW for at least 1 PPV cycle. None of the stuff did that, none that stuff even won the match. The burn victim returned (defying all logic) and won the match by doing a move with the body part that got burned by flamethrower (give or take) 10 minutes earlier.
Edge/Cope & Black had their first match and are already in (not just a regular Steel Cage, but) a Barbed Wire Steel Cage. Then after having it be a Steel Cage wrapped with barbed wire on the top Cope climbs it (despite the Barbed wire...negating the need to even have that Barbed wire) and dives off to injury..which still didn't even win the match despite looking devastating for the recipient MB.
It's nice that they are excited and go wild, but it lacks logic and structure. That's like watching a disjointed series where the story makes no sense and characters are inconsistent episode to episode with big moments that break the Canon of that series and that world, happening randomly 21% of the way through the season.

    • @michael-orian5773

@@IronTonyStark first off... None of what you're saying is making sense. It's all nitpicking and basically saying that nobody was written of the show... When no show has happened yet. Second, so what if the burn victim returned? He returned much later, after being saved by the fire extinguisher. Your complaints are not even complaints about the payoffs and basically just saying "it's not the way I would have done it".

I love both companies and think both have their pros and cons, and I think you did a great job laying it all out in a really well-thought out way. I will suggest, if you ever do want to at least get a little bit of AEW's storytelling in a way that doesn't eat up your whole schedule, AEW puts out clips on RUclips the way WWE does, as well as clip shows that recap the stories just before a PPV day. And if you have a VPN, PPV shows are way more affordable if you watch them on Triller, where it's $20 instead of $50.
