8Ball and MJG had one of the best album runs of the 90s no doubt. That was my least favorite of the 4 for some reason though. I prefer them doing their Southern sound than g-funk.
Ready to Die was wayy Bigger than Illmatic inside and oustside of NY. Stop with the revisionist history. I lived in Queens NY in those days and Ready to die was played out of every car and building 24/7 for months when it came out. Illmatic was quiet and only underground fans cared about that. Biggie had underground and mainstream tuning in at the same time
There's definitely some East Coast bias going on. ThugLife, Spice 1, Warren G and 8Ball & MJG was no doubt Top 10 in 1994. The numbers definitely solidify Warren G. and 2Pac Top 10 of that year. A lot of albums on this list were critically acclaimed but didn't have as much of an impact as the four I mentioned. Albums #1 and #2 took over a year to really start selling.
Scarface and Kast set the tone for the south in 94. First time I heard of Jeru was when Gucci Mane name dropped him on Photoshoot. I’d have Common in the top 5 but I’m a Common stan. My Dad raised me on Heavy D. Great list!
Spice 1 Amerikkk's Nightmare and UGK Super Tight would have made my list. They would have bumped Common and Heavy D. A full length Bone album would have been a contener too, Creepin' On Ah Come Up is straight 🔥

I'm a huge Heavy D fan but that album shouldn't be here over Super Tight, Something Serious, Regulate, Thuglife, We Come Strapped, Amerikka's Nightmare, or Street Level. Was this list bias against "gangsta" rap? It appears so.
