I think he did like 40% of the songs on there, that album had some great contributions also from Mr. Walt, Showbiz, Buckwild, Lord Finesse and others. Great album!
I think a rapper that doesn’t get enough recognition is Kool G Rap and his album 4,5,6. Lyrically he’s amazing and choice of samples and beats for this album are top notch. Another would be the Bushwakass and their album How real Israel? Fish B1 and Digger are awesome rappers with steady flow and the album is killer. I think these 2 offerings are more solid than organised confusions efforts.
Wrath of The Math: Jeru The Damaja is MAGNIFICENT! Perhaps the best rap album i've ever heard, and that's saying something because i've been a raphead for many years! Also Kollage: Bahamadia is FIRE, I KID YOU NOT!
Yup, both that and The Sun Rises in the East are fire. They used to play Bahamadia on local radio in Philly back in the late 90s. The “3 The Hard Way” joint has been in heavy rotation for me for years!
It's another underappreciated album by Freestyle Fellowship It's called "To Whom It May Concern... I encourage everyone to go and take a listen now You will not be disappointed I am promising you 🤟🏾
With all due respect but all of these albums are on most lists of the best rap/hip-hop albums of the 90s. They are also on the lists of the best rap albums of all time. What do you think is underrated? Of course these albums won't rank above ILLMATIC and REASONABLE DOUBT but they will always be in any top 200 rap albums of the 90s. Underrated for not ranking higher than Illmatic and Reasonable Doubt?
I understand that perhaps you mean that these albums in the video are mentioned less than others. But illmatic, RD, GKMC, TPAB, The Blueprint, MBDTF and several other rap albums are the best albums in the genre. The meaning of underrated is when a album is better than those albums I mentioned.
In my eyes, underrated means records that don't get enough love and aren't talked about as much as their quality suggests, regardless of how they stack up to universal classics. O.C.'s Word...Life, for instance, is of an incredibly high quality but doesn't get talked about enough. Same with Stress by OK: it's really, really loved by those who know it, but it's often overlooked. I'd put those both in my top 30 90s hip hop albums: many wouldn't, so a lot of it comes down to personal preference. Yes, these records are on most top 200 and even on many top 100 lists, but underrated in my book does not mean that it's better than those top albums that you mentioned. It's how an album is perceived (and retroactively celebrated) relative to its quality. The 10 I mentioned here and the 10 more I will mention in part 2 tick all those boxes IMO.
@@ryantalksmusic I understand and respect your opinion. Would any of these 20 albums make your top 10 of all time? The question remains. I still think they are correctly rated. They don't compete with the universal classics. Whats your top 10 albums ever?
Of numbers 20-11, none in my top 10, but Resurrection and Stress are in my top 20. There are 5 albums in the upcoming numbers 10-1 video that are in my top 10 90s hip hop albums. I'll give you the other half of my top 10 without spoiling my 10-1 video...The Infamous, Illmatic, 36 Chambers, Cuban Linx, Liquid Swords.

you know your shit, bro. not sure if preem had most of the beats on o.c.'s "jewelz". the piano on "the foundation' is billy joel.
I think he did like 40% of the songs on there, that album had some great contributions also from Mr. Walt, Showbiz, Buckwild, Lord Finesse and others. Great album!
I just discovered O.C. This was peak 90s in my opinion
He's as dope as they come. Completely agree with you. Word...Life sounds about as 90s east coast hip hop as it gets.
Bush Babees - "Gravity"
Good record. Early Mos Def appearance there. I like Ambushed more, "Remember We" is just an anthem.
Kool G Rap is one of my favorite MCs of all time and that album is absolute fire. You might see it in part 2…
@@ryantalksmusic YES INDEED! You have great taste sir, both albums you mentioned were & are indeed FIRE!
Appreciate it! Love bringing hip hop heads together.
If/once you do an overlooked 2000s albums. 'Busta Rhymes - The Genesis' (IMO) was his BEST and it's a fairly solid record from start to finish.
Genesis is hugely nostalgic for me! I remember listening to Break Ya Neck over and over on the bus on the way to 7th grade.
It's another underappreciated album by Freestyle Fellowship It's called "To Whom It May Concern... I encourage everyone to go and take a listen now You will not be disappointed I am promising you 🤟🏾
That's a really cool album - it's really raw and lo-fi in the best way possible.
CRU- DA DIRTY 30 1997 Def Jam/Violator
Temples of Boom!
@@ryantalksmusic Bro, when 'im heard "You will now consider me the Apocalyptic one/ After this rhyme, henceforth... there is NONE.." 💀 That put Monch in 'im Top 10, dare say 5. 😅
Word Life Dope
Gonna risk here: Tony D - Check the Elevation
Haven’t heard that one, I’ll check it out!
The most underrated to me would be the psycho realm (1997). I'll listen to that start to finish without skipping...
I love that record. I've had Stone Garden in heavy rotation for damn near two decades. Such a creepy, cool album.
Great fucking list man
Thanks for watching!
@@ryantalksmusic showbiz & Ag: The medicine. The Beatnuts: Street level, De la Soul is Dead.
Love that Beatnuts record as well as De La Soul Is Dead!
19. OC - Word Life🎤🎤🎤. I never heard a good album from him.
18. Goodie Mob - Soul Food 🎤🎤🎤🎤. Grew on me over the years. I remember only enjoying the Intro with CeeLo.
5:55 🎤🎤🎤🎤.5
11:28 Scarface - The Diary 🎤🎤🎤🎤🎤 n The Fix are my favorite from Face
Good taste! Give that O.C. record another try, it's fire.
@@ryantalksmusic I heard both. Not into his solo albums. OC snapped on M.O.P. 1st Family 4 Life and Crooklyn Dodgers soundtrk
Yeah that's true, he did go off on the Crooklyn Dodgers record. Love that joint with M.O.P. too - I actually saw them with Pharoahe Monch in NYC this summer.
ALL are loved. Don't even know where to start. Other than Skinny Pimp and Freestyle Fellowship (okay...and Xhibit) 'im had/has all their albums. You know your Hip Hop... Good Sir. 🦾🦍🫡
P.S. - Emojis signify DOOM (Metal Fingers), & P!
I appreciate it! Glad you could connect with it, makes my job as a creator worth it to hear that. Love DOOM, love Sean P, both gone way too soon.
I had never heard Skinny Pimp before, but wound up really liking 4 or 5 songs off that album. He reminds me of Bone Thugs and he mentions them numerous times.
Constylations with Amorphous, Piseas, and Esoin is way more underrated than anything on this list
Have never heard of any of them. Any tracks you recommend?
@@ryantalksmusic “fuck it” is my personal favorite
Peter Gunz and Lord Tariq - We Will Ball
Make It Reign was definitely underrated.
The Diary is the southern illmatic 📖
I support this take.
Boogiemonsters - Riders Of The Storm
Solid album that I need to get more familiar with!
Did anyone mention All Natual "No Additives, No Preservatives"?
First mention I've seen! I've heard their second album, Second Nature, but never this one.
Jedi Mind Tricks album Violent By Design was released in 2000, but they released music in the late nineties and Vinney Paz is the best MC out of Philly! Just saying
I used to be a big, big fan of JMT. I've cooled off on them lately, but their debut released in '97, The Psycho Social album, was one I considered for this list. I spun their first 4 or 5 albums heavy in high school.
Atmosphere overcast
Believe it or not, that’s always been my favorite Atmosphere record. Many people love their 2000s albums, but Overcast has always been my #1.
fat joe da gangsta.
People are going to laugh house of pain same as it ever was underrated hip hop album
No judgment here, that album is surprisingly good. "I'ma Swing It" comes correct, especially with that bassline.
Goodie Mobs Still Standing?
Good choice, but I wasn’t going to put two albums by one artist in there. Soul Food is stronger IMO.
Soul food is every bit as good as any OutKast album. It’s also where the term “Dirty South” was first said on record.
MYSTERME - LET ME EXPLAIN
I'll have to check that one out!
John Forte - Poly Sci
Never heard this one before - I'll add it to my list!
@@ryantalksmusic Yeah! John Forte was an affiliate of the Fugees, back in the 90s. Even though the Fugees sold a lot of records, John Forte was never able to make it. But his album was dope.
@@ryantalksmusic John Forte was an affiliate of The Fugees. His album dropped in 98, and I think it was a solid album but for some reason it flopped.
That's right, I remember seeing his name in the liner notes of The Score. Looks like he was on Family Business and the Fu-Gee-La remix.
Scarface diary is definitely NOT underrated!
Considering that album lives in the shadow of The Fix, I’d say it doesn’t get the respect it deserves. Didn’t even make Billboard’s top 100 hip hop albums, but The Fix did…
Dr octagon ala kool keith. Dr octocagonacologist
That's an incredible record. Dan the Automator goes so hard on some of those beats, and Keith rips everything he touches in a weird but awesome way.
@ryantalksmusic couldn't agree more my brother
you lack the minerals and vitamins
The irons and the niacin???
@@ryantalksmusic all the way in L. A. even during the death row years, time's up came through as an "instant classic," (it was "underground" for us... video... wake up show... etc) so... thank you for mentioning OC's album!
That's right...the Wake Up Show was so instrumental in breaking all kinds of stuff out there, similar to Stretch and Bobbito here. I'll never forget that star studded freestyle track from '96 I think it was. Dope to hear that Time's Up was getting love out west even during that time.
common sucks
that album Is trash. :conscience demeanor" lol
Whoaaaa that’s out of pocket
Get your head right, yo.
It's also the diddy era ....
Yeaaaaaah but we shouldn’t let one terrible person define an entire era…
