Anyone coming into this line of work. Old or new. Apprentice or served time (not Prison) 😄 Tom should be recognised more on RUclips. He is way beyond any other you will see on plumbing and heating channels.
Wish whoever had plumbed under my kitchen sink would have done such a neat job that you do. It’s those touches that make all the difference and tell you something about the plumber on that job. Thanks for the videos Tom.
Great video, I'm glad I'm not the only one that has those concerning thoughts about jobs that we do, I guess it's that we just want a job to be do right to the best of our ability.
I remember you first fixing that one Tom, it’s ages ago, and your right you never know who’s been meddling between visits, but it looks like the attention to detail on your first fix is spot on. 🚽👍take care.
Neatly arranged Tom, done some connection cold and hot water and setting out for the radiator, put the water back on and for got about the shower water feed hadn’t put a stop end cap on it as it came out of the floor behind the door, had a shower without fitting one 😂😂😂 , I see you still got Henry the bucket 😂
I have never seen this situation with a Company stop tap and meter inside a single occupancy domestic dwelling, I will admit I live in a Rural area, but everywhere in my area, both my village and surrounding ones, also our local town, the meters are fitted next to the company stop tap underground outside the property, I have had to do a snatch on more than one occasion when the customers own indoor stop tap was ceased and the company one wouldn’t turn off, I personally do not understand why we don’t just do away with stop taps and have full bore lever valves instead as they’re fully WRAS approved Kudos to you Tom for using full bore lever ball valves, and not restricted ballofix ones, though even those are preferable on a tap installation to none, and I have found many such poorly designed installations, I make it a habit whenever installing to fit the lever valves whilst I have the water supply off, that’s how I was taught, and I often wonder what people are taught in Technical College now, I do know that in at least some cases students practical work is only assessed using a dry pressure pump, the problem with this being that they’re work won’t hold Water Literally 😮 I now work as a site maintenance manager for a large primary school trust, and due to the age of the buildings I have encountered many ceased stop taps, generally in very awkward situations where access is restricted by existing immovable kitchen equipment making access for tools very difficult or even impossible 😢, the more I do the job, the more obvious it becomes that there is a serious skills gap in the contracting industry, far too much bodge it and run, things that would have turned my old governor puce !, and which constantly frustrate Me ! - Julie
Internal water meters are quite common where the water supplies to properties are shared. There are a lot of terraced houses around me where the water feeds multiple properties so the only place the meter can go is inside. This is optional though so it's only at the house holders request, I don't think water boards really like them inside either. Lever valves are the best I think, thanks for watching Julie
Hi Tom, a nice neat job under that kitchen sink. The bathroom job also appears to be coming along nicely now. Have a great week and as always take care mate. 👍👍👍
Great video Tom, nice neat functional work. The only thing I would add is that you don't need silicone on the top of the waste, only the bottom as that is where the seal is made.
Great video Tom! Nice pipework under the sink- I think lever valves are much better than stopcocks as they are much easier for people to use. That small pipe bender looks great; found some old bending springs in the attic the other day - not used ones in decades and still remember the struggle that sometimes happened in getting the bloody things out!
You do get some jobs Tom .great when the water will not turn off correctly. Nice bit of work in the cupboard. That other job not good when you have no control of the job and don't know what is happening. I remember you doing that job a long time ago . Anything could have happend in the mean time.
I did think that at the time, the only reason I did it at the angle was I thought it was easier to turn the cold side on, it's an easy one to sort though if the customer isn't happy and I need to go back to finish other bits off, thanks for watching mate
They would probably fix it but it would be low priority, hopefully now my customer won't have the worry as there is a working stop tap inside, thanks for watching as always mate 👍
I didn't want a point of isolation before the water meter, it would have made it so someone potentially could have tapped in off the wrong side and been getting free water if that makes sense, thanks for watching
Don’t really understand the stoptap vs lever valve argument, after all, water companies use quarter turn valves in their water meter housings in the street.
There is a reason for using a stop cock, it has a jumper in it to stop backflow into the mains water supply. I wish that plumbers on u tube would stop using them on mains coming into property. Ot is showing Joe blogs the wrong information. Water regulations state that the mains coming into a property needs to be a stop cock with drain off. Lever valves do not have backflow prevention, being wras approved is irrelevant.
I have been told by my water board that lever valves are now fine to fit, I have numerous inspections a year by the water authority and this question has been asked multiple times. The new meters have check valves inside so it's irrelevant what type of valve gets fitted. This is why sure stops and valves like that can be used instead of a traditional stop tap. I will ask the question again on my next inspection, but as far as I'm aware, lever valves are fine, I will update this if I'm wrong as I would never intend to give wrong information
That may be ok in your area which would be an idea to let viewers know. My understanding after 20 plus yrs is that the stop valve at first point of entry is the be BS1010 of screw type. That is what my understanding is. I get lever valves because they are easy but I would put a stop cock in first then lever valve.
It is a very fair point, as I say I never intend to mislead anyone with my videos, I may well be wrong but I can only go off the information that's given to me. I do have another inspection in July, so I will ask again, in fairness the inspectors do know the regs inside and out as I've found out to my costs a few times with non complaint vertical ball valves and the like, thanks for watching and commenting, it is greatly appreciated
Those water meters inside the property should be illegal, because you can't do any work/change the piping without notifying the water company (which they'll tell you they need to send their engineers out to do the work or else you're at breach of contract for touching their equipment and they'll make a tidy profit on it) and then you have the situation where you have pipe in the road belonging to the water company, pipe from the curb to the house belonging to you and then that short bit of pipe in your property belonging to the water company again. The fucking state of our infrastructure because we allowed Australian and Saudi investment firms own our plumbing and run it at a profit is beyond me. Tidy job by the way.
That's the only advantage of being an approved plumber is that you can self certify this work, I did still ask permission but they don't need to come out after to inspect, I do agree they are a pain though and ideally new mains should be laid for each property, thanks for watching

Thanks for the support mate, I really apprecaite the kind words

Wish whoever had plumbed under my kitchen sink would have done such a neat job that you do. It’s those touches that make all the difference and tell you something about the plumber on that job.

Great video, I'm glad I'm not the only one that has those concerning thoughts about jobs that we do, I guess it's that we just want a job to be do right to the best of our ability.
I worry a lot about jobs, once I'm there I'm Ok but when you leave a job for a while it's hard going back, thanks for watching as always mate 👍

It happens mate, all plumbers have done it, I don't count them as leaks though if it's just a cap end, thanks for the support as always

Great video Tom, nice neat functional work. The only thing I would add is that you don't need silicone on the top of the waste, only the bottom as that is where the seal is made.
Fair point Simon, Thanks for watching as always mate
love your videos, your knowledge is like my old mans who is close to retirment now lol
Thanks for the support and kind comment mate
Great video Tom!
Nice pipework under the sink- I think lever valves are much better than stopcocks as they are much easier for people to use.
That small pipe bender looks great; found some old bending springs in the attic the other day - not used ones in decades and still remember the struggle that sometimes happened in getting the bloody things out!
Thanks for the support as always Steve, lever valves are the future I reckon, bending springs are one thing I never got on well with
Proper tidy work, im going to use those brass clips for my pipes, look way better in exposed areas than plastic clips.
Thanks for watching John, the brass clips do like nice
I’ve used lever ball valve recently no problem ❤
I do like using them, thanks for the support as always Glyn
Beautiful work Tom 👊
Thanks for the support as always Neil
Nice one fella as always

Thanks for the support as always Andy 👍
Another good video Tom. 😁
Thanks for the support as always mate
Great content Tom 👍 I hate some of them sink waste kits, they can be a pain.
Thanks for the support as always Pb, some of them are a right pain, at least this wasn't one of those IKEA ones
@@PlumbLikeTom IKEA ones are definitely the worst Tom 👍
nice job love your content
Thanks for watching
Smart job great vid!
Thanks for the support as always mate 👍

I remember you doing that job a long time ago .

Nice under sink plumbing Tom, but my OCD went into overdrive with how you left that tap. Surely, it's got to be front facing and not on an angle.
I did think that at the time, the only reason I did it at the angle was I thought it was easier to turn the cold side on, it's an easy one to sort though if the customer isn't happy and I need to go back to finish other bits off, thanks for watching mate
And me buckets got a hole in it 😂
Nice work Tom. Just as an aside - are the water companies receptive to requests for fixing street stop taps that are passing?
They would probably fix it but it would be low priority, hopefully now my customer won't have the worry as there is a working stop tap inside, thanks for watching as always mate 👍
You ever thought about a freeze machine? They not cheap but would come in handy for somthing like this
I used to have a rems commercial machine but it got stolen, I never replaced it, I hire them in now as and when I need, thanks for watching
Tom, do you know where the kitchen tap was from?
I'm sorry mate, I don't, it came with the kitchen supplied by a different company, thanks for watching 👍
Will the shelve fit ?.
I did get it to fit, thanks for watching
if you knew the stop tap didn't work why didn't you fit a new one while kitchen bare before units
I didn't want a point of isolation before the water meter, it would have made it so someone potentially could have tapped in off the wrong side and been getting free water if that makes sense, thanks for watching
use ct1 works in wet
Ct1 is good stuff, thanks for watching as always Bill
Respect 🫡
Thanks for the support as always Ross 👍
Who the hell ordered that tap to go with that sink set up 🤦🏼♂️🤣
It came with the kitchen, I quite liked it myself but it's all personal choice, thanks for watching 👍
🤘😎🤘
Thanks for the support as always Wayne
Don’t really understand the stoptap vs lever valve argument, after all, water companies use quarter turn valves in their water meter housings in the street.
A lot of people still say you can't use them, thanks for watching as always mate 👍
I know it sounds corny but I changed my Ball a fix valve on my out side tap this winter for a lever valve because all you UTube guys use them now.😂😂
Lever valves are better to be honest, thanks for watching as always Colin 👍
wel that was a disappointment mate ...expected a decent deluge lol
It was wet enough for my liking, thanks for watching as always mate 👍

I think that sweeping up brush definitely needs to retire Tom….
Do you reckon, It has a bit of life left in it I think, thanks for the support as always
