within this video i theory craft what could potentially be THE persona console which gaming system has access to the most or best versions of the persona games considering my heavy bias against persona 5 its no suprise that it wouldnt be a console that could play that and some may suggest that its a current gen console such as the playstation 5 or even the nintendo switch however you may be suprised that the ultimate console is a handheld that released in the early 2000's
within this persona console speculation i give a deep dive documentary style into the persona games and what persona games can be played on them

as ive answered multiple comments and i dont doubt people wont keep mentioning it as i said at the end of my video im talking about official hardware and so handheld pc machines like steam deck and the ROG ally are not official hardware. the steam deck is just a portable pc and so yes a laptop or a portable pc machine would be the ultimate thing because of emulation however 1) i dont condonde piracy for games as you can still buy digital copies of on official hardware like the ps vita or ps3 for the ps1, ps2 and ps vita persona games
2)handhelds such as the steam deck or even the nintendo switch in my experience of having one has been very bulky and taken up lots of bag space and is quite unweildy for its size and battery life (more the steam deck then the switch) unlike something like the psp, vita or 3ds these official handheld consoles can be charged up thrown into the front pocket of a bag and can be forgotten about as you still have all the bag space
3) price, psp’s and vitas can be found on facebook marketplace and local selling sites for cheap as hell, while the switch and steam deck are still incredibly pricy and their games are also incredibly pricy, reload is $70, p5r on steam is $60 while games on the ps3 and vita stores are incredibly affordable and cheaper, also the second hand games market for physical media for the vita and ps3 for persona games like p4g, p5 ps3, p4au, p4d very affordable
To be fair, unless I'm wrong, the PS1 and PSP Persona titles are no longer available for purchase on PSN through the Vita, so unless you've already downloaded the others, Vita will only offer you P4G and P4D.
But, yes, Vita was a surprisingly great little home for JRPGs. I'd still argue portable PCs are a better Persona hub, even aside from emulators just because they have access to the modern series as opposed to just the retro ones. But Vita was a great little system. A shame it never found its audience.

also i mentioned portablility and battery life as a factor into consideration and thats why the vita beats out the switch lite
please dont mention emulation on handheld pcs as i dont want to be associated with piracy as p3p p5r and p3r are the games that can be bought and played legally, i dont doubt you have the ability to dump your ps2 games however im very touchy on the topic of piracy

I know for a fact that at least the PS1 games are not available, because I tried to grab Eternal Punishment for my Vita and it wasn't available. It could be a region difference? Maybe they just aren't available in USA?
The point I was making, though, is this. I agree that the Vita has advantages. It's more cost effective and has a smaller form factor. Those matter, but do they matter more than the ability to play the modern releases of the series? That depends on who you ask, but for my money, I think the ability to play the modern games matters more.
It's all subjective, just saying there's definitely another argument here.

its about systems where you can play games you can buy i even mention loading up my own backups on the psp however its just not the main subject of the video as if it was emulation the best way would be with pcsx2, ppsspp, Rpcsx3 and steam as with those you can play everything but that isnt the point of the video
when talking older tech and handhelds its fun to discuss what is the thing with the most releases or what you can buy stuff on to this day not people dumbly screaming uhhh steam deck can emulate this all its the best

That bug wasn't due to denuvo it occurred on pirated copies as well and it was also fixed because the Xbox, PS and switch version was added to PC with an update usually just called p4g64 because it's 64bit, it does however break mod compatibility with anything made prior to the new port

You can get all 3 on PS4/5 by getting the endless night collection. Only way to get PS4 Dancing on PS4/5 but on the plus side it goes on sale pretty often

Finally, someone who owns a vita. Lowkey 4 dancing is one of my favorite persona games. 3/5 dancing can go eat my Fsteak tho it’s a huge downgrade

@@ACursedJessie Steam Deck is official hardware, it has support, different models, backed by Valve and running in its own operating system. The vita is discontinued and lacks support nowadays so the argument about it being official hardware ( and it can’t play ALL of Persona games ) is kind of pointless.

also the valve steam deck can only play 5 of the games legally by purchasing them p3r, p3p, p4g, p5r, p4au
while the vita not only can you buy more but can remote play to a ps4 and perhaps a ps5 with custom firmware, can play persona 1 ps1 and psp, the persona 2 duology ps1 and psp, persona 3 portable, persona 4 golden, personas 3 4 and 5 dancing, meaning more official releases of the games with the ability to remote play for the rest of the current games like p5r and reload
the vita is much smaller and much more portable then a steam deck as i mentioned in my video the vita can be put in the front pocket of a backpack and forgotten about until you want to play it things like the steam deck and nintendo switch even almost require bulky hard cases due to their size alongside the issue of not wanting to throw them in a backpack due to their screens not wanting to be scratched or debris getting into the big joysticks
at that point why not take a laptop with you and a controller? as most bags have space for a laptop they’re multi purpose in utility and you dont look rediculous in public with a handheld that has a battery life that the vita also whoops as in sleep mode the vita lasts longer, full brightness heavy lode games the vita doesnt spin up any fans it just hangs out lasts longer and is still supported by its online store
most of these points were quickly summarised in my video however because the steam deck which is made by valve you think its some kind of official hardware cuz a big company made it, that doesnt mean my dell laptop is official hardware nor is the steam deck
enjoy your steam deck but it is not in consideration for what could be the persona console/handheld

My father gifted my brother and I vitas when they released. They are amazing persona machiness(and Final fantasy)
Being portable and small is a huge plus because it's so convenient to carry.
And during covid lockdown I played persona 5 royal through remote play, and I had a blast playing that too.
Oh yeah and the ps3 is nice, I don't have the model that can natively play ps2 disks, but persona ps2 games can be found on the psn store, and that's how I am currently playing persona 3 fes

If Atlus re-releases Persona 1 & 2, then the Switch 2 is a Contender for the best console. Midori has said that Persona 3 Reload will come to the Switch 2, which is the only game from the modern trilogy/trilogy spin-offs other than the dancing games that is not on the Switch and all future games will probably also be on Switch 2. Persona 6 will probably also get many spin-offs, including probably a New Dancing game and the old games will probably also be re-released at the same time.
i got into persona back in high school because my friend told me to get persona 4 golden because he liked igor and marie, persona is now my favorite game franchise of all time and i still think the vita is one of the best consoles ever made

I need a Vita so BAD! I already have a psp and it's fucking PERFECT to play Persona 3 (definitely the way God intended) and I know within my heart that the Vita is the way god intended for us to play P4G. And honestly, I have this feeling that persona games should all be experienced on handhelds, the Switch seems to be the perfect console to experience P5 Royal despite the other Personas clearing belonging to the PS family.

I unironically played through every single persona game on the Vita, with the exception of P3P (I played that on the psp) and Royal (I sat my ass down and played it on PC). I got my hands on a slim model back in 2016 and when P5 came out I was so bummed it didn't release on the Vita (I mean, I get why they didn't bother but C'MON they put Catherine full body in there SURELY they could squeeze P5 but I digress). I ended up getting a PS4 just to play vanilla P5 and I played through the entire thing on the Vita via remote play on the train to school. Truly a console of all time.

p5 sounds like such a slog to play on PC let alone a home console like ps4. I wouldnt have picked it back up if it wasnt for steam deck.
To be fair the ps3 store has fes and 4 digitally so you dont need a fat ps3 to play them

Backwards compatible PS3 is the ultimate Persona console.
you can play Persona 1 up to Persona 5 on it.
although Persona 4 Golden, Persona 4 dancing, Persona 5 Dancing, Persona 3 Dancing, The PSP releases of Persona 1, PSP releases of Persona 2, Persona 5 Royal, Persona 3 Portable and Persona 3 Reload aren't playable on a backwards compatible PS3.
but who wants to play the worst version of persona 4 and 5, preference over fes to portable is down to personal preference and the ps vita can play all the original playstation versions of p1 and the p2 duology alongside the psp remakes, also including the ability to play the best version of persona 4 and access to all the dancing games
its very close but the vita is only missing 1 game out of the main franchise while the ps3 is missing the better versions of 1-4
with chiaki on a hacked vita you can stream your ps5 to it which works quite well so that way you can play p3re, p5r, p5t, p5s etc
oh UMD disks just writing that format feels vintage. The last upgrade to the PSP, the PSP Go, got rid of UMD and went fulling digital, but still used expensive memories cards so I never met anyone who owned one, it also cucked everyone by having a select/start buttons where the a second analog stick would be at.
The first mainline Persona game I ever played was P4G on a VITA of my own, of course, it did take me a few years to realize the absolute gem I had because I was just kid and I was more interested in the Lego LotR game I had for the same console. My first Persona game in general was PQ and let’s just say that not having a clue who any of the characters are really made the experience weird when they referenced stuff I didn’t know about. Anyways, the only complaint that I have with the VITA is that I want some SMT stuff too, so instead of using the power of friendship to fight gods, I can also use the power of gods to fight my friends.

@@ACursedJessie It’s alright, both franchises are really fun imo, with a 3DS like you have in the video, you could probably play Strange Journey, 4, 4 Apocalypse (this is a sequel), and Devil Survivors. I might be missing one or two, but it’s still good introductions to the series. I know that SMTV and its rerelease with Vengeance (which I recommend you get over the original) are on Switch as well as the SMT3 remake. I do want an emulator one day so I can play all the games locked on the OG PlayStation and PS2, but I’m not nearly as tech savvy as I would need to be for that lol.

First time I played persona 2 it was on the vita and is now my favorite persona game
I love the vita but my god that new thing they implemented where you need a special hardware password to log in is just such a bad decision. (for those who don’t know, when you log into ps3/vita now you have to scan a QR code to create this password before you can be allowed to fully log in.)
I know that i used the quick save feature from p3p and p4g on game pass a ton, especially if someone else(like my dad) wanted to use the same account i was using(well, 1 of them). Which is why i was surprised that p5r didnt had that when for its 2021 re-release. Eh, kinda inconvenient, but i can deal with it. Not a huge issue. Oh, and did play all 3 of them on pc, sometimes. Ofc, i had to put the shadows and stuff on the lowest settings. But i have never played on a psp, or a psvita(well, i played on 1 of them, but it was ages ago, and i only remember playing 1 of the sonic rivals games) also, i have never? played on a Ps2.
Im glad so i bought a vita not that long ago and the psn shop is still available. Who knows when we'll get a remaster of P1 and the P2 duology.

My Steamdeck is good enough idc much by how big it is and you can play p5r and p3r natively, if I wanna play p1/p2 I’ll use my psp, i will prob get a psvita someday but it’s not necessary for me
i thought i made it pretty clear that i’m talking about official hardware the steam deck is a handheld pc, of course something where you can emulate everything would be the “best” handheld

i hacked my psvita one month ago and when i heard about moonlight i instantly booted up yuzu on my pc and i streamed it into my psvita, so even p6 can be playable on psvita (if it releases on pc)

PS Vita is a wonderful console especially when pushed to its limits with jailbreak. I played Metal Gear Solid 1-3 on the thing as well as Persona 4 Golden.
I agree that its highly versatile, however dropping the $300 dollars on a Steam Deck now is just too worth it. Persona 3 Reload, Persona 4 Golden and Arena Ultimax, and Persona 5 Royal are all playable through legal means.
When it comes to 1 and 2, your only legal means of playing it is to have/buy a physical copy then emulate it.
Its also worth mentioning that battery life depenrs on how much load the Deck is taking. Ive never had an issue with the battery life and the Deck charges lightning fast.
TLDR;
want to play oldsona (p1, p2is, p2ep, p3p) on budget? - psp
want to have everything that psp got and even more? (p4g, p4d, p5d, p3d) - psvita
persona 5 royal? - switch
persona q? - old 3ds or new 2ds xl
i dont think reccomending a switch to play royal is a good idea when a ps4 can play all the dancing games, arena ultimax, golden, portable Royal strikers and tactica at a more stable fps and im confident you can find second hand ps4’s which is a home console with a huge library of games you could play
fun fact: you can actually use ps remote play on the vita with a ps5 with a fork of chiaki called vitaki. you do need a jailbroken ps vita to use it tho
the only console i have is switch and the fact the dancing games are not on switch is a CRIME plus ive been interested in p1 + p2 since there’s no remake or remaster ver on switch or anything else

If you hack your psvita you can play remote play at your ps5 and P6 come out on Ps5 so persona 6 you can play on your vita
There are no mods on the vita that allows you to remote play the vita to the ps5, there is chakiki but it doesn’t work. The only way to remote play the vita to a ps5 is through a ps4.

Persona games made me dig up my 11 year old Vita.
I 100% was going to comment "I'd recommend the Vita over PSP" but, sure enough, we came to the same conclusion. I have all the Persona games on my Vita. 1 PSP, 2PSP, 2 Eternal Punishment on Ps1 because we never got the remake, P3Portable, PS4 Golden and Dancing.
Considering they put P5 on the PS3, it makes me wonder "Could that have been put on the Vita?" but then I saw the PS3 version in action with its copious amounts of screen-tearing and you realize the beefy hardware is struggling with that game, there's no way the Vita could handle it. I'm actually amazed at how good it looks on the PS3, I thought for sure the PS4 version would blow it out of the water but that ended up not being the case, just screen-tearing a few extra particle effects being disabled. Just goes to show how a great art style will always trump cutting-edge graphics.

I hated WindWaker when it was first shown off. I wanted more Ocarina. But teenage me was stupid and older me is also wiser (though far from wise) and now appreciates just how much personality they gave Link. Definitely the most expressive protagonist we've gotten in the series.

if you count emulation than series x definitely the best for persona, literally almost everything from p1-p3r for extremely cheap prices with no need to mod the console
edit: looked into it more, you can play literaly every single persona game + spin off except for vanilla p5, p5s, the dancing games, the p1 digital collection spin off, and all the mobile games. only ones im unsure of are the q games since citra on xbox is new and i haven't gotten around to testing it, but everything else is completely playable, either through emulation or natively

the xbox series console is using emulators and unofficial releases to play the games similarly to a pc or handheld pc.
I’m referring to official hardware where you can still to this day buy the games officially and play them, you have to do account shenanigans to get the japanese only persona 2 psp game to apply the translation patch to it but thats still an official copy of the game
@@ACursedJessie true but i don't really think most people care. the people who just want a simple platform that can play all the games should definitely just get a series s/x. i get not including steam deck or rog ally, since those are uncommon platforms that are complex to set up. but with xbox being one of the big 3 consoles, and with microsoft not only being a heavy supporter of the emulation community, but also having very close ties to atlus. i definitely think the series x is the best if you just don't really care about "official means" and just want to jump into the games

Steam Deck is the true ultimate Persona console. You can emulate any version + the newest releases work flawlessly + sleep mode just like Vita.

for home console its tied between ps3 and pstv however you can get a pstv online for 1/3'rd the price but theres also fb market place and local buying and selling apps where you can find ps3's for like 20 bucks
@@ACursedJessie Its less of that and more of the fact that the ps3 has persona games that aren't on the pstv or the psp. That was my main complaint.

psp has the ps1 versions of p1 and p2 duology and the psp remakes of p1 and p2 duology and p3p
vita adds the dancing games and p4g
the only games your missing out on is p5 and the arena games (for ps3)
which is why i said it is a good companion to the ps4/ps5 bc you can do remote play and get access to royal, strikers, tactica, nocturn hd, vengence basically everything else
@@ACursedJessie Did you forget that the ps3 has not only ps2 backwards compatibility but ps1 as well? So you can play all of the ps1, 2 and 3 games which covers every main game in the series. You also have the ability to download and play psp games so you have access to that entire library. Golden for the vita was released on PSN so thats also playable on the ps3. Literally every game but the newer p5 spinoffs and p3 reload are playable on the ps3.
Imo ps3 is perfect for persona, kinda sucks you have to track down the Fat og model but still it gives you access to all of the games made up to that point in a native and legal way
@@ACursedJessie I'd actually do the opposite for your companion setup. Get a ps3 and switch, that'll allow you to play all the same games (even more actually) and it would be significantly cheaper

I still rather play all the persona games on my Steam Deck OLED. I can play P4G at 1080p 90 fps, P5R ar 1080p 60fps, and P3 reload at 1080p 60fps. Not to mention being able to emulate all the older games and upscale them.
While it makes sense to think of budget when talking about the ultimate persona machine or handheld the video title would make way more sense if you put it as "the ultimate way to play persona on a budget" because the vita isn't the definitive way to play all the persona games

obviously a handheld pc that can emulate everything is obviously the “best” however, atlus still offer games on the vita playstation store and the form factor of the vita and its battery life makes the steam deck look ridiculous as the vita is pocketable while the steam deck is a poor excuse for a “portable” its heavy and takes up a bunch of bag space the vita can easily fit in the front pocket of a backpack and stay there for months on sleep mode and will have plenty of battery life which is something ive had happen to me.

I dont know if you still can, but you can/could emulate pretty much EVERYTHING off of the Series S, and it wasn't that hard.
like i mentioned in the video i really dont like emulation, i think we should try to support atlus in any ways we can even if we dont like the games that are out now, metaphor is coming soon and vengeance just dropped, please if you can support the devs and avoid emulation

ultimax got a port to all modern consoles in early 2022 and piracy shouldn't be a go to theyre still selling these games today
@@ACursedJessie ultimax for some odd reason wasnt ported to xbox despite the original being on xbox, and non ultimax the only one playable on modern xbox consoles got delisted last year
@@ACursedJessie telling people to support Atlus by buying their officially distributed games is fine and dandy, but what about Persona 1, 2, P3Fes? Heck what about Q and Q2? They are locked out on outdated consoles, and Atlus stopped distributing their official copies years ago. Do you seriously want people to buy completely obscure consoles and buy the games for exuberant prices off of Collectors (for which Atlus does not even recieve monetary compensation anyway, so it's the same as pirating) just to satisfy some self righteous ethics you deem moral?
Yes pirating is bad, but that only applies to games that people can buy officially. Without Emulation most retro games will die out sooner or later, and we will be left with products such as the P3P remaster which butchers the original with bare minimum preservation.

you clearly have not played these games on a steam deck OLED. The games look phenomenal on there, certainly better than on a PSP. You can emulate without piracy, which many people do, myself included. You have an L take on this and you clearly don't own a steam deck if you think a PSP is any more "wieldy" than a steam deck with a killswitch case. I've played all the Persona games on the steam deck OLED and all the games look and run well largely without tweaking settings. I don't know where you're coming up with this nonsense about Reload or any of the other games not running well on it either. Just admit that you didn't include it because you lack knowledge and it didn't fit the narrative of the video you could make.
no lol, i said in the video i like official hardware like the psp vita ds whatever im sorry that i dislike that i cant fit the switch or steam deck into my pocket, portability means different things to people to me being able to fit it into the front pocket of a backpack or a pocket means something to me is a good portable
ive had the steam deck and switch and never was the steam deck or handheld pcs or emulation devices a point i brought up in the video as i was talking about older official hardware that you can still buy today rather then something newer and made by independent companies im glad you enjoy your OLED steam deck but this comment comes off as super bitter considering this is firstly an objective look over the psp vita switch and ps3 and where they place in my eyes as a “persona console” how many of the games in the franchise could this official hardware was the question i asked myself and thats why i made this video

the past 2 years ive travelled with the steam deck vita and 3ds and the steam deck compared to the 3ds and vita is far more of a pain going through security and making space for it compared to the 3ds and vita
ive had time with these systems and honestly a laptop and a controller makes more sense to me to travel with then a steam deck for pc games on the go and for actual hand helds that fit in the palm of one of your hands the vita takes that spot for me
regardless im sorry that my video upset you so much considering i just said i prefer smaller handhelds to big ones and that extends from the switch to the steam deck but as i said in my video and pinned comment my video wasnt about emulation devices or handheld pcs or anything of the like it was just a retrospective on some old hardware
