Its no secret that since 2011 Atlus hasn't created another female leading character in a persona game, this video is a case study into The Unfortunate Fate of persona 3's female protagonist.
persona 3 portable released on psp in 2011, and later was ported to pc and current gen consoles in 2023, we haven't had a female protagonist since why does Atlus hate women?
In order to discuss the femc we need to discuss the context behind her existance, so after persona 3 FES a lil hit game called persona 4 came out on the ps2 and it was fucking awesome. many fans of persona 4 would go back play fes realise theres no direct commands and would complain on early internet forums and to atlus and so in response with the not so dissapointing sales of the playstation portable atlus was all like hey what if we took persona 3 a game fans have many complaints about squish it down and put it on the psp put in persona 4 battle mechanics and for new content we’ll get the writers to write an alternate route with a different protaganist,
uh oh so it looks like the weirdos found my video
hi there if you have been rejected by a woman in real life or your just in general a sad POS that feels the need to be misogynistic my TLDR is i dont tolerate misogyny, homophobia, racism or Transphobia. I hope people someday learn to grow up and be respectful of people different from themselves.
You're hella reaching, I've read all of the comments and at least 99% of them don't have a problem with the fact that femc is a girl. Also what's with the nams compendium hate???
My takes aren't rooted in hate for others, FeMC just ain't it as a protagonist.
Given the video is giving a biased reasoning and when others have biased responses you respond with "Nam's compendium viewer" I can see why you'd like to damage control this.
@@crusiver8453 damage control what lmfao
@@Liquid_PK Nah she is a pretty good one and playing through Persona 3 in all versions? She adds some more to the story.
Modders:"fine, ill do it myself"
modders: hold my beer
I'm sad femc wasn't referenced at all in Reload. Not one song from Portable was in the dlc and it would have been cool to have her as a super boss with Theo.
the $70 fem mc persona 3 reload dlc coming in 2025:
real
And I would buy it fr fr
I wouldn't be suprised... and I would probably buy it
I'd pre-order it in a heartbeat, no shame
What makes me laugh is that the makoto Fandom acts like putting Kotone shiomi in the game is a crime now I know the kotone Fandom is delusional but the makoto fans are just as delusional as well
persona fans when theyre all just skitzos
The sad thing is when you see their reasonings its often bc they feel adding her will somehow take away from time spent on adding MORE mechanics for THEM. With how chocked full of content Persona games usually are for male players, it seems pretty selfish for them to act like the femc is more expendable and barely deserving of representation even though she is still a huge part of persona 3’s legacy.
iirc one of the P5 prototypes that got leaked has graphics for a cut female protagonist and it pisses me off so much that she was removed
She wasn't cut she was just concept art never actually planned
I reckon part of the issue is the story they want to tell. Having an established main character gives them the narrative choice to progress upon in the future. Games where your character's gender is ambiguous makes it nigh impossible to ever have a future debute. Unless the plot deals with time travel or alternate universes; having a singular character's gender set can allow future appearances, references, and default lore on who they are.
Would I at least like a Female main protagonist in future games? Absolutely. But it might not be popular for the single male audience these games tend to hit big with. Would it be possible to have two intertwined plots between a main female and male character? Absolutely.
0:17 unironically my name I always use for her is "Phem - See"
I feel like every persona protagonist has their own unique thing going on in their games, and femc has her visual novel style going on.Removing it would just make her bland and a copy and paste.(for anyone seeing this, play Neo The World Ends with you)
I’m very surprised they didn’t even add Femc as a costume for Yukari or one of the other girls
Knowing atlus Persona 3 portable Reload is something they would do so they can charge $70 dollars again
the thing about persona protags is the fact that they're all supposed to be both their own characters *and* a self insert, and im guessing the reason they do this is solely for the cutscenes and spinoffs and stuff like that
we can't milk the fuck out of Joker P5 and push a canon timeline nearly as easily when you also have to make Femc Strikers and Femc Tactica etc etc
Big sis is always watching over you
10/10 video very relatable. I will never recover from FeMC being cut from Reload DLC. 😔
Understandable
I don’t think atlus hates women because
Maya
Aigis
Yoko and Tao (new characters from SMTV)
Are AMAZINGLY written characters
Who happened to be female
I think that having FEMC in reload probably was just too much for the company.
This is probably why the P3P got a port.
Not to mention they would have to change the whole Ken romance with how controversial it is.
I like FEMC and I’m not a misogynist at all.
I mean I NEED good written women in my games, I just think that there’s probably other reasons why FEMC wasn’t included in reload.
Nice video tho 🙏
Why is it that women always have to be side characters/romances though and not playable? They do write women pretty well but it seems like they pretty much ignore then female players in their fanbase. Its 2024 and so many rpgs are able to add a female/male experience. I understand persona games are usually chocked full of content and developed in a relatively short time but its one thing that could easily breathe new life into the series and also make part of their current fanbase feel represented and heard. Being that they haven’t done another femc in a over a decade, it feels like they are only prioritizing their straight male audience.
@@shaktra1563 I mean there are a lot female protags around not just JRPGs but media all over the place. And persona doesn’t really have a targeted demographic. Most of the people I’ve met who play persona have various backgrounds. I, me myself I’m a black American who plays this game.
I don’t think it particular focuses on “straight white males.” They just do very common cliches that people always expect to see in games.
@@Legendaryyy77i mean, persona's protagonist is knda silent (for self inserting purposes) and choosing a girl to date is part of the game... I don't know about others, but I would love to have a persona game with fmc and a vast cast of choosable well-written male characters.
i kinda get why the they dont add a femc i feel like the amount of sales it would add is less then it would cost them to program it but it would still be a cool thing to have and hey atlus likes to have dlc like a lot so i would not even mind them charging like ten bucks for it as long as it gives me a reason to replay the game since i am someone who will just replay a 100 plus hour game just cus a feel like it so having a 2nd playthrough be altered with a different protag will always be cool
I agree
Remember when Sumire got leaked for the first time when P5R was coming, everyone was so excited about it but it got absolutely ruined that it was just another character added.
Honesty its because dev time would have to be near doubled due to animations and stuff, would like to see another story tho
I wish that if you saved shibjiro it’d cause someone else to die. Maybe junepei and him being replaced with chidori. It’d prob be hell to devlopé but would be interesting to see.
I heard people saying that persona 6 leaks are saying there will be two protags in persona 6 so fingers crossed for another female protag? But then again leaks can always be wrong as well
Kasumi was actually supposed to be a female protagonist. But an entirely new charcter, a new dungeon, more events, more activities and a femc with new social links and different interactions with the existing ones woukd have been too much
well atleast she was in persona q2
I like her but Makoto is cool too, also I think it's cool that we're getting the Answer even if a lot of people dislike it.
I don't necessarily think the inciting incident needs to change with a FemC in P5. A girl could still defend a woman from being assaulted and push Shido, the biggest problem would obviously be how you are judged by the court system, since it wouldn't surprise me if a girl would get a lighter sentence. But given the influence Shido has and what a vindictive ass he can be, I think getting the same sentence due to him pushing the matter could really show those aspects of him even more. The version you proposed would also show that (to a greater extent even), I just don't want to see the FemC in this case get assaulted, however knowing Atlus I could see them taking that route.
Also, I think it would be interesting like P3P FemC having a different personality from the Male MC that a P5 FemC would be different in Joker in someway, like maybe making her more rebellious and punk-ish. Though something that is core to P5 imo is the Gentleman Thief vibe, so the FemC would need to basically be a Gentlewoman Thief and that might not work with a punk-ish personality.
It's really fun to think about a FemC in the P4 and P5 and story changes, here hoping that that's nothing we have to think about for Persona 6 (though I doubt it).
I forgot, but I wanted to say a bigger problem I could see with the story would be the end of the third semester. Spoilers for P5 Royal below:
The final fist fight with Maruki, I just can't see him punching the FemC in this case. Like thinking about it, it's already a bit weird (no matter how cool the scene is) that he is punching a high-schooler, but gets even weirder with a FemC imo. And the scene is kinda needed, or at least it would be a detriment to lose it.
good video
Yes, it's a very good video. Agree
her popularity is so high back then but now it's being swipe clean by a dog.
ok, i get wanting to avoid DEI, but they coulda made a fortune with this
I guess people forgot about maya in p2
modern calendar system persona fans dont even know about maya
Persona 2 games came out a long time ago. And every time a female player character is introduced theres always so much controversy that Atlus stops including them. Its a messed up situation considering the unique quality and story that persona offers.
you mean the game that came out 1999?
What are my biggest helps for persona 6 is that you can choose your gender at the start of the game male or female fire emblem does it and Pokemon doesn't like you said pretty much a good chunk of jrpgs do this so this is something I would love for persona 6 a female protagonist what or the option to choose
the writing suffers from arbitrarily making 2 genders playable unless done correctly. it’s no secret that the majority of Persona/SMT fanbase are men so adding a completely separate route for a minority of the fanbase would cost you more money than it’s worth.
I'm also autistic! But anyways, the femc was also made for the otome genre, from what i remember. But it was for the best that she was a one time thing. For me, she kinda weakens the themes of p3 by a little bit, and pink is kinda a bad color in general for the game imo. Also, the femc wasn't required, but it was definitely very cool. It would also be very cool if they added her in p3r, but its also not required imo. But Maya is also very cool. I kinda didn't like that kenji didn't had growth. I still like him tho. But I think that Nozomi is very good. Also, it was extremely weird that they added a romance option for Ken. I respect your opinion on Ken tho. For me, i really liked his character(i kinda hated what they did in the Movie)
Edit: and the ability to save shinji i kinda hate, same for the option to revive chidori in the male route.
It never coming not even as dlc Word is she's too much money , and then there expansion coming out in September
Love that the writer or w.e claims Persona 4 and 5 doesnt fit a female lead. Which is complete bullshit
Well, i dont care what u believe in as long as you dont force me to believe what u believe, but yes, it's sad that she will never be included in the game and will never be in the game as dlc after the episode remake thats it.
i dont believe in anything i just want a genderswap pronoun swapped protaganist
"Atlus hates women" 🤭@@ACursedJessie
@@crusiver8453 ya fell for the clickbait
Ya’ll persona fans be so protective 😂 relax hun. Its a very common notion for jrpgs not prioritize female players
in persona 6 atlus should add a genderswap item
genderswap potion from terraria crossover
I've refused to buy, play or even watch this game ever since it was announced and I will continue to do so unless they show a little bit of effort for the femc.
I loved p3 back in the day. the game means a lot to me, but now its just painful.
Agreed...
She isn't canon and her saving shinji detracts from the main theme of the game so as far as me and most p3 fans think she is irrelevant
Kinda spitting facts. Tho I kinda disagree on the shinji part
nams compendium viewer spotted
@@ACursedJessielmfao. But I do rly think that she is kinda irrelevant overall. Would be cool if atlas will acknowledge her again tho. Also, that saving him(and reviving chidori in the male route) I kinda dont like.
All protagonist are Canon
Nah I disagree she is canon and Shinji may have still died so....not reallly especially looking at his character.
6:42 Speaking of p5, a few years ago someone on here was working on a femc Ren mod. Idk if they're still working on it or if it's complete but it's a very interesting mod
shes not canon
dont care
She's canon cuz Q2
Both versions happened, different timelines
Actually she is canon, Q2 confirmed it.
I hate FemC
Real.
Based, honesty.
ok but why?
u gay
@@Jdudec367Is there ever any valid reason to hate a fictional character that deeply? Especially one thats pretty much a blank slate defined by your choices?? The fanbase is probably the biggest reason why words like “mysognists” get thrown around
femc was in my opinion a strange and pointless addition to persona 3 due to the fact that the game was built around a male protagonist. The Ken social link is just gross and the Shinji social link ruins his impact on the story. Adding the option to be either gender would create a lot more work for the writers possibly doubling the time required to write the social links and overall story to account for both genders. They ran into this issue in persona 5s development and decided to stick to a male joker for that game to simplify the writing. Honestly though if persona 6 has a female protagonist I really wouldn't mind as long as they build the story around the established female protagonist.
oh you watch nams compendium
TBF she was a one time thing, never meant to be canon in the first place. It's A small loss.
She's a 17 year old who can romance a 10 year old. She saves Aragaki - which weakens the impact of the game. Worst MC easily.
Meanwhile persona has featured multiple romances between minors and teachers… you have no moral highground here
