- This is my first Video for a DIY so apologies in advance for any missing information.
This was a severe water leak from the Driver side rear door. I had to remove the front driver seat and the carpet to dry everything up, I then replaced the vapor barrier seal only to realize that it was coming off again.
I took some drastic measures to try to remedy the situation. It has been over six months since this video and so far so good. i'm pretty sure other people will find other ways to fix it, the main focus of this video is more on why and how it happens.
I did end up drilling a hole at the bottom and primer it as an added measure to make sure no water is accumulated in that corner as shown in the video.
Thanks for watching
Thanks for explaining the proper path for the water - I was struggling to understand the issue from other videos.
I know exactly how you feel. Having to dry my carpet twice was so stressful and draining that I made it my mission to find the exact cause and a fix. Glad I could help.
Just wanted to let you know I will be posting more videos very soon. I would really appreciate it if you hit the like button and subscribe. Thanks again!!
Hello My friend I know Its been a long time but I have to ask .How is yr door ? Water leak stoped ?
Im driving around with my window taped lol. Time to fix it thanks for all the info.
Thanks from England, great visual description not seen anywhere else on RUclips. BMW should see this because every model experiences this problem and it simply isn't good enough, it's a terrible design. Cheers!
Indeed, I read that this issue is not isolated to the f10 chassis, if you don't mind sharing the video so people are aware.
Very briliant idea
Another solution redrilled the holes slightly bigger and it helped after tape sealant
hey. I have the same issue but membrane doesnt have any unsealed part. I realized that water leaks from the clip holes that lead water inside the car. What do i need to do the fix the issue? should I change clips?
now thats a good video
Man they have this problem on every single model since the E38, I don't know what are they doing there making the same mistake on so many models. The vapor sponge or what the heck it is, is kinda cut on my F30, tried to order a new one and they don't even make it anymore.
So finaly what i need to do to resolve problem????
What I’m not understanding is why is there water in the door in the first place
Have a similar issue, does the water get in between the glass and the seal?
That's correct, not sure if you watched the entire video, but I put a water hose right at the glass and the water was getting through, which is normal had the door design been done right we wouldn't end up with water between the vapor barrier and the bottom door frame. I also drilled a hole right at the corner and primer it to expedite the draining.
Hey bro, so please educate me, water getting inside the door is ok, just the part where it leaks into the floor board and door jam is not right?
Yes the water gets inside the door from the glass seal on the outside. If you look at the car windows you see that it is not water tight. So water will seep inside the door frame but it needs to stay within the two sheets of metal. The one on the outside and the one where the door panel hooks onto. I did show on the video where all the water is supposed to exit. Bottom corner above the side skirt. Just message me if you have any questions. I'll be more than happy to help
has your carpet gotten wet since the fix ??
No not a single drop. And the last couple of days we had some serious rainfall in NYC, but it's been good.
Would that rip on the bottom right cause the floor mats to get wet ?
Yes it does. If your vapor barrier is still intact and you have a wet carpet you need to check your sunroof drainage that could also be the culprit. Mine was good and the barrier was completely separated. I re-sealed it but still wasn't good. I drilled a whole where I showed in in the video just as a added measure.
