  • No Soak Method For Cooking Pinto Beans.
Sort 1 pound of pinto beans and rinse.
Bring 1/2 gallon of water to a boil and add 1 to 1 1/2 teaspoon of salt. Add the beans and bring back to a boil. Reduce heat but keep the beans at a slow boil. Put lid on slightly ajar.
Cook until the start to get tender and adjust seasoning. Cook until tender. Cooking time will be around two hours. These were done in just under 2 hours.

speaking of mexican markets...youre better off getting the beans from the bin usually next to the rice bin, why? because theyre usually lighter in color which means theyre fresher. dark beans means theyre old.
and when fresher, they cook faster and taste better. you can throw in a couple garlic cloves and half of onion blended in the blender, and either jalapenos or serrano chile peppers at the last 20 minutes of cooking time it adds flavor and a little kick!

The issue isn't "Hard Water", it's that you are putting salt in the beans while they cook. Always salt at the end or your beans will not get tender unless you do a 4-5 hour simmer. My Mexican mother in law showed me how to make a proper pot of beans, FWIW she used powdered chicken bullion instead of salt.
I always add an onion, a fresh bay leaf and three smashed cloves of garlic when I put the beans in, per her instructions Always come out stellar.

      THIS IS EXACTLY RIGHT &
ONE OF THE BEST WAYS TO COOK PINTO BEANS!
UNSOAKED BEANS NEED TO COOK FOR 4-5 HOURS!
      5 HOURS IS BEST!
8 HOUR SOAKED BEANS CAN COOK IN 2-2.5 HOURS!
NEVER ADD SALT EARLY, SOME BEGINNERS WILL TELL U ITS OK BECAUSE THEY HAVE (NOT) TRIED (TRULY FULLY COOKED CREAMY PINTO BEANS) BUT (THINK) THAT THEY HAVE.
LISTEN TO (US).. THE GUY ABOVE GOT RECIPE FROM HIS MEXICAN (AUTHENTIC) MOTHER IN LAW & ME?...

Try making them his way and avoid draining them. Just wash them really good before hand... it's the authentic Mexican way to do it. That and adding an onion.. You keep all the nutrients in the water and all the bean flavor. I've tried the draining method and the beans come out so boring. All you taste is water and salt.

While I am not knocking your way of cooking beans, I do mine a little different. First I rinse them, put in a pot with some fat back and salt. That is all. Then I cook them for 6-8 hours, I prefer a thick soup for the beans. About half way through cooking the beans, i use a large spoon to mash some of the beans against the pot. This makes the beans thicken up quicker.

    EXCELLENT VIDEO THANK U.
@James Strange most likely because its low & slow.
I would say unsoaked pinto beans shud be cooked for 4-5 hours.
Im Mexican & make some FIRE AF FRIJOLES CHARROS & HAVE COOKED MAYBE 40 POTS OF BEANS, GETTING BETTER EVERY TIME.
I cook my beans unsalted & only add the salt at the
    LAST 30 MINUTES.
Id rather be safe than sorry.
The thinq is some peoples "creamy fully cooked beans" are actually fully cooked while others
"creamy fully cooked beans" are actually a little on the firm, undercooked, inconsistant texture throuqhout side.
Soaked pinto beans shud cook in
    2 hours.
Unsoaked pinto beans shud cook in 4-(5) Hours!..
I prefer 5 Hours IF CHOOSING the UNSOAKED APPROACH WHICH (I) (NEVER) DO.
*** I prefer soakinq for 8 Hours Best or
    Overniqht or
MINIMAL SOAK TIME of 4 hours, THEN il cook those for 2 hours Total...
    *** ... so FOR EXCELLENT
    (MAYBE BEST) RESULTS:
    (1) Soak the Pinto Beans for 8 Hours,
    (2) Dump out that Water,
    (3) Cook the SOAKED & UNSALTED BEANS for 90 Minutes,
    (4) Salt & Season the beans,
    (5) Cook for 30 Minutes
    (2 Hours Total) & DONE!...
... Some of the BEST, FULLY COOKED, CONSISTANT, CREAMY BEANS UL EVER EAT.
Martha Stewart says addinq salt to beans early will affect the cookinq process.. the quy here says that HARD WATER also causes it....
... What I qather is that YES TO BOTH!.. THE HARD WATER MESSES STUFF UP BECAUSE OF THE EXTRA BS & SALTS & CRAP IN THE WATER... SO THEREFORE HAVING EXTRA STUFF IS (UNNECESSARY).
IF ITS UP FOR DEBATE, MOST PEOPLE WUD BENEFIT TO SIMPLY LEAVE THE SALT OUT UNTIL THE END TO ELIMIMATE THIS GAME OF BACK N FORTH WONDERING IF IT TRULY DOES AFFECT THE COOKING PROCESS... JUST LEAVE IT OUT & THATS THAT.
    🤔😥

Oh dear. You were right on boiling them for 30 minutes, but then you really should rinse them and drain that first water off. The reason is because you need to remove any insecticide that is usually still on them from after the harvest.
Then cover with more water and boil.
Reduce heat and slow cook for two-three hours.
    Then they're perfect.
Don't want you to get sick.

Your beans are obviously going to have all the flavor.
Don't people realize that when they SOAK and RINSE beans, they are loosing FLAVOR?
Soaking works for black beans but not pintos. It would be like soaking, rinsing coffee beans, letting them dry and then grinding to make coffee...bad analogy but you get thepoint.Maybe more like RINSING PASTA.
My Grandma never soaked beans nor did my mother.
To remove some of the gas causing stuff, you need to soak 12 + hrs. During a hot summer, that can spoil them
or start the spoling process. Baking soda helps a little
but the minimum amount needed gives them a slight acidic taste. Just take BEANO.

I can close my eyes and cook pinto beans since I have done this for the past 40 years at least once a week plus years watching my mother when I was a child. Step 1- place the beans in a pot with plenty of water, make sure to have enough because the beans will suck in the water and leave it overnight. 2- next day dump that water out and rinse the beans in running water. 3- put the beans in a pressure cooker and add water covering 2 inches over the beans. 4- let it cook at high heat until the pressure cooker regulator starts to jiggles. 5- wait about 5 minutes and turn the heat off. 6- Don't release the pressure , let it release by itself, it might take up to 30 minutes which is completely free cooking. The whole process takes about 20 minutes cooking , that's how I save money.

Best way I cook dry beans fast that I've found is,,,,..,.,, use tap water bring to boil (don't add salt) add beans build for 5 min. Put in strainer rise with cold tap water. Put water back in pot bring to boil add teaspoon of salt a smidgen of arm & hammer build for 10 min (rapid boil) then cut down to a simmer. Takes one hour to fully cook them. Add spices to flavor while cooking. Avoid using stocks and broths.
The cold water rise after boiling is the trick. It makes it work well just don't use a high pressure sprayer.

You soak your beans, grains, nuts, and seeds to break down the physic acid and anti nutrient in them. If you think this step should be skipped I would recomend doing some research first you could ne doing damage to your digestive system.

It’s a shame you felt the need to preface your common sense comment about a Mexican supermarket as “not a racist comment” 😞
I realize that in the 2020 and even earlier that someone would try to find something with which to be “offended”!
Boy do I long for the days when people aren’t so easily triggered!
