@@MyLittleKitchenRecipes I think that the same! Thank you for this video I'm not so scared of a pressure cooker. Do you think that I can cook in this cooker a white rice?
Thanks for this tutorial. My mum gave me a stove pressure cooker which I have been terrified to use! I have the instant Crock pot and the scariest part is when the pressure starts building up, sounding louder and louder then abruptly stops. Just like my heart does in those moments.. 😭
Haha, honestly nothing to worry about as its got a safety valve which won't open unless the pressure inside decreases! So no chance of blowing yourself or your kitchen up, luckily 🤣🤣
Hi, thanks for this video introduction. My question is whether you maintained the temperature setting of the hob at 9 for the entire 7 minutes or did you reduce the temperature at some point after the steam pressure was established? BTW I just noticed a comment saying you can reduce the heat by a quarter and then start the timer. How about what you do.? Part of this method is to save energy right?
Practical tip: add two centimeters of water before you heat the pot, and add boiling water from the kettle. You can also lower the heat /turn it down by a quarter once steam starts escaping from the valve /and the pressure indicator has popped up. Then start your timing for the cooking process
THANK YOU for explaining it so well. I am one of those who never learned how to cook growing up so I am learning now and always wanted to try using a pressure cooker but I'm just too afraid to do so... now I am more confident that I can do it safely. Great job!
Very good question, but it's just not being answered, although alot of folks are asking the same question. Will the video author please answer the question for us. Or do a new video and refer it to us. Thanks.
I have been using a pressure cooker for years. My mother had one too. I wouldn't cook potatoes like that because a lot of the nutrients go into the water. I always steam vegetables in a basket inside the pressure cooker, using very little water at the bottom of the pan. The water does not touch the vegetables.
Good. So, for how long when cooking vegetables? Have you cooked with meat before? Do you add any spices when cooking with meat or fish? What about beans? How long? Manual pressure cooker and electric pressure cooker,, please which one do you prefer? I'd be glad to hear from you. Thanks.
Thanks, I think ppl in the UK will all be scrabbling about in the back of their cupboards for their pressure cookers now that the power costs have doubled. I know I have. Will be trying chick peas, quinoa and wheatberries in mine to begin with.
Hi. Exactly spot on👌 . It is overwhelming the various instant pots. Electric multi cookers, electric pressure cookers etc. I remember my mother using one of these when I was growing up. (60 yrs) TERRIFIED ME!! Now I need to be brave and get one. Can't afford the electric bill now, never mind when it increases again.
Thanks for the tutorial, it’s very helpful! One question: in some of the desi YT recipes, the cook instructs to cook for 2 whistles or 3 whistles, which I have not understood as our pressure cooker does not whistle and I don’t know how to translate these whistles into minutes. Please help on this dilemma of cooking with pressure cooker. Thanks in advance.
"steam, heat and pressure". A pressure cooker only cooks in one way, heat. When the water in the cooker heats up and boils it gives off steam, this steam creates pressure in the vessel which then seals it. This allows the temerature in the cooker to rise above 100c - in a normal pan, this doesn't happen as heat is lost via steam which is allowed to escape and the water will boil dry. It is the very high heat (around 120c) in a pressure cooker which allows foods to be cooked quicker. The opposite happens in high altitudes or in aircraft. Here, water boils before it reaches 100c - this is why you never get a cup of decent tea on an aeroplane.
Thanks for the video. Please note that adding water to a pan that is extremely hot, will damage the pan. The surface will get permanently warped and will never again make proper contact with you hob. Pans need to be flat to be heated efficiently.
I have cooled down my decades old stainless pressure cooker with water for over 50 years and it is still flat bottom. I think it depends on the quality of the pan.
You just saved my.life I've just bought one of these and havent a clue how it works. I have the other one with the whistle on top prestige. But how do you k ow its cooked on these new ones

do you have the reciepe of how much water you need to put to cook stuffed grape leaves on pressure cooker. I seen a video where cooking them normal pot you need about 5-6 inches above the leaves, I guess in the pressure cooker the amount of water you use must be different. The other thing do they come out watery, and which way is better to cook them. Pressure cooker or normal pot (were you put a plate on top of the leaves and another jar of water on top of the plate to hold them properly and you add water about 6 inches above the grape leaves which takes about 3 Hrs)
Hi. I'm looking into buying a pressure cooker. I need one that will cook a large chicken or joint of beef. Can anyone advise on what size I would need. There are 5 adults to feed so I imagine it would have to be a large capacity.
thanks for your comment Sandy M, if you click on my Amazon affiliate link here: www.amazon.co.uk/shop/mylittlekitchen?ref=cm_sw_tw_r_inf_own_mylittlekitchen_dp_KsRTyb5Zaee6r You will find the pressure cooker I use, Amazon do a 6 litre and a 9 litre, the larger one should be great for a large family.
Good tutorial! What is also important is that you always polish the lid with a metal polish. If there are fingerprints on the lid and the lid heats up, the fingerprints will burn in and over time the pot will no longer look nice.

I always used at stove top pressure cooker. Then I bought an Instapot. The Instapot has its uses, such as sous vide cooking, yogurt making, slow cooking but it takes AGES to heat up. I use my stove top for vegetables but I don NOT cook them in water, as shown in this video. I put them in a basket on a slightly elevated trivet so that only steam is forced through the vegetables and they are not touching the water.
