I notices my hair needed protein from watching protein and moisture balance videos and This is my second washday with a protein deep conditioner and I noticed that my is so shiny and I have day 2 curls like beautiful day 2 curls 😍
It's been so difficult, managing life, family, and unruly curly hair!! Starting CGM few months ago, has been a savior for my hair, but its a long process, understanding the needs of my hair, trying to maintain that moisture-protein balance without properly knowing about it! Thank you Marissa for helping me through this journey, for helping me embrace my natural hair, and quite making me wear that dress or embrace my natural skin texture! ! ❤❤❤❤
I thought I was in protein overload but I’ve narrowed it down and think it’s actually coconut oil and/or aloe so I’ve removed those products and will see how I go adding protein. Thanks Marissa ❤
Very helpful descriptions of how to tell what my hair needs. This is the trickiest thing for me to “get” so I always make sure that between my shampoo & conditioner and styling products there is a mix of both moisture and protein. Love Curlsmith to help know which products to use and that the different linesman work together.
I've found this really helpful! I'm about 12 months in on my curly journey and feel I still have a lot to learn. My curls have definitely come a long way but I've found your videos really helpful when I comes to wading through the minefield of products and styling techniques, so thank you 🤗
I'm new to all of this and this topic seems to be the most difficult one to decipher for my own hair. I may need to watch this several times. I'm thinking my hair needs more protein but we shall see. It is so confusing but I'm trying!
I am always strugling with this balance! So you made some things clear for me, thanks for that I now know that i have to add a bit more protein in to my routine. I really love your channel. Also your voice is very comforting in some way hihi. Keep on making great stuff like this.
Thank you so much for making sense of it all. Been following cg 3 years in october, also embracing my silver streaks! Checked all ingredients today had no protein and hair feels SO much better. Also, less is definitely more in this game...Noughty shampoo and conditioner only today. 👍😁
This video is really helpful. I started curly journey last year and the last few months my hair has just seemed to have lost off umph. So gonna watch this again and try and get the balance right. It's overload on one of them just need to figure out which x
I realize my hair is kind of curly a couple of months back, I’m still trying to figure out why some days the curls form effortlessly and other days is just frizzy. Thank you for the information is helping me a lot
This is still difficult for me, I don't really have a problem with too much protein but I can't seem to seal moisture in my hair. Thank you for the helpful video.
Hi, I have very fine hair and it hates protein. If I use a product with protein more than 2 times I start to notice my curls get stringy and angry and less curly. So I’ve learned to use on protein free products and only very occasionally use a deep conditioner with protein (once every 2 months or so). The rest of time I use a protein free deep conditioner (once a week). My hair seems to respond better with occasional protein in deep conditioners; it doesn’t seem to like protein in styling products
Noughty To The Rescue shampoo and conditioner both have protein and are budget friendly. I think my code and links for them are in the description box of all my videos
Lovely video! My is very fine, but it does not do well with much protein. For whatever reason, my hair becomes wonky, dry, tangly, won’t clump, and loses its curl pattern. I have finally learned to use a bit of protein in either my cleanser, conditioner, or leave-in (with protein free stylers). However, I still struggle with getting many protein-containing stylers to work for me. I have (too many) purchases I would love to put to use! Do you have any suggestions?
Hi Marisa! Can I please ask you a question about masks? How often should one do a protein mask and also then a moisture mask? How do you decide on something like that? I've heard wavies say they do a moisture mask one week and protein mask the other week.. some do a protein mask every 2 weeks or once a month .. I'm just a bit confused about that.. thanks for another great video!🌹🌹
I don’t think it’s something that anyone can say how often you should do them. It’s massively different from person to person. I actually hardly ever deep condition, maybe twice or 3 times a year. I do use the bond curl more often but still not super often. I find I can tend to keep my hair balanced through my washdays these days. And some people with dry, thirsty hair would need to deep condition weekly whereas for others (like me) that would be a disaster. So all I can say is trial and error is the best way to figure out what your hair needs
I’ve just started with Curlsmith. I use protein line for wash & moisture line for Styling but when I use the rehab salve I then deep condition with orange line & do mixture of protein & moisture for styling. Not sure what I’m doing as just started so hoping I’m Doing it right x
This was very helpful! 🙂 Now I’m wondering if my hair might need more protein since my hair does feel quite soft and the curls won’t last that well. I’ll experiment with a bit more protein next washday and see how my hair reacts 😊
I have a 6yr old daughter with curly hair and I've been following you for a while to learn more about how to keep her curls healthy. I need to switch up our products but it's VERY important to me to use clean, non-toxic body care products in our home. I can't find curlsmith on the EWG site for health rating. Do you have another brand you recommend that you know is toxin free?
Coming back to say I went straight to their website. I'm comfortable trying them. If she has what I believe to be a need for moisture AND protein, what are some simple steps to get started?
Yes I would be confident recommending them to you, they are lovely clean ingredients. You could actually take the quiz on their website to get their recommendations for her hair.
Thank you for the helpful video, as always! I love the shelf layout/decorations behind you, Marisa. So cute and chic! Do you ever experience flash drying with any of the products in the protein line? My hair typically likes protein except that I experience flash drying with the Bounce Curl creme gel so I'm curious if you've ever had that.
Thank you! The bouncecurl gel does that to me too but I still love the final results. I don’t find any of the curlsmith protein line gives me flash drying though. Flash drying is not necessarily a bad thing as long as the final results are good 😃
I'v been trying to balance the protein and moisture. My first day hair is good but the following day, it is so dry. In the past I overloaded moisture treatments which didn't help my over all hair or the second day. Any recommendations?
Some hair types need some extra moisture added the second day, so a little water and leave in to refresh might be enough. Or maybe you need to deep condition but just don’t overdo it. Do it once and see what happens. No need to do it every week unless your hair seems to need it
Hi watched this video again just as a reminder but my hair has beautiful bounce & softness on 1 day then day 2 it’s really dry I protect it at night, just wondering if I should add more moisture on washday?
It sounds like it’s loosing moisture quickly. Perhaps sealing your hair with a drop or two or oil could help seal that in. And deep conditioning could help too if you don’t do that already
Before trying a bunch of new products, I tried clarifying and wow 🤩 what a difference! That’s all I needed! I just had tons of hard water buildup.
Amazing!

So informative. First ever comment on a YT video! Couldn’t think of a better person to give it too

Oh I hope you have it figured out! Both of those can definitely mimic protein overload
Thanks for explaining! Understand this so much beter now

@@MarisasCurls would you put the oil in after It’s dry & the crunch has gone?
You could put a couple of drops of oil onto your hands and then scrunch out the crunch with it
