    Curly girl AND pastry chef here. Let me save you some work: Stir your gelatin powder into room temperature water just until it's uniformly wet and there are no big lumps, let it sit for five minutes, then heat it up. It'll dissolve like a dream with basically no effort.

    I tried this the other day and it made my curls tighter, I have more volume on top (my hair generally lays flat on top), and it just feels smoother overall. Thank you so much for sharing this!

    If you hydrate the gelatin in a bit of cold water then put in hot water it will disolve faster....

    I have never heard anyone say that before. And my mind is blown. I have wavy hair and when I have truer to brush style un the past I didn't even follow through one full time because it didn't look any different wet. It never occurred to me that it may still look different once it's dry. Woooooowwwww, now I have to try it 🤷🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

    I make bone broth and have ben thinking…. What if I put that on my hair?….. I might give it a try. Cannot seem to find anyone suggesting that but eggs for shampoo yes (and the whites of course contain protein). Thanks for posting this gelatine video I may well give my home made bone broth a try on my hair and see what happens….. I’m all about the natural and carnivore so trying to also find a replacement for flaxseed gel but I also love that for my curls. I love experimenting 🤣🙏🏻

    • @MarisasCurls

      I think the issue with some homemade potions for hair is that the protein molecules are too large to really penetrate the hair. The gelatine is hydrolysed collagen so it’s been processed to make those molecules smaller. But it’s still worth a try if you want to 😃

      @@MarisasCurls I hear you! Yup i will do some experimenting - the bone broth I make is cooked for 9 hours minimum and sets like gelatine when cool so I di believe I can try it and see what happens - am transitioning my hair after many many years of straightening (like half my life of almost daily straightening and I’m almost 52) but it’s still got it’s colour and my hairdryer broke a couple of months ago and my hair tried being curly and I just thought why am I doing all this blow drying and straightening?!!! It was weird like an addiction you know? It’s like detoxing from straightening! So I’m finding me again. I’m in Scotland. I love your videos thank you 🙏🏻

    Thanks for sharing this! I've heard about gelatin treatments before, but I'd never actually seen anyone do it, so I've never tried it. But I'm going to have to give this a try now. Especially because my hair has gotten a bit soft. It could probably use a good protein treatment. Thanks for sharing!

    What's your opinion on keratin treatments for curly hair?

    • @MarisasCurls
      @MarisasCurls  2 года назад +1

      If you mean the keratin treatments from the salon then those are generally used to straighten the hair and are not likely to be any good if you want to keep your curls.

    Why not do the bowl method as a way of applying it, so you just dunk your head in the bowl rather than trying to pour it over your hair?

      I’m so glad it worked for you! How often you can do one depends on your hair, I have gone through periods of doing them very regularly ie every couple of weeks. My hair doesn’t need that much at the moment though. And only throw lots of moisture at it after if you feel like it needs it 😃

      Brush styling only really works on very wet hair so yes I think it’s definitely worth a try 😃 just keep your hair wet enough for the brush to easily glide through, you can use a spray bottle to keep it nicely wet if you like 😃

    I wonder if Agar Agar would work too? It's the vegan option for people who don't like crushed bones in their hair.

    • @MarisasCurls
      @MarisasCurls  2 года назад +3

      There isn’t any significant amount of protein in Agar Agar so I’m afraid it wouldn’t do anything protein wise for your hair. A good vegan protein treatment is actually beer 😃 I have done it before and it works well

    Hi Marisa, I just came across your channel last night and am interested in trying the Gelatine treatment. I always like to use the same product that was used in the video..... but I live in the US and when looking up gelatine, I get so many different ones.... a lot of them say beef. Can you please suggest/supply a link to one that would be easily available in the US. Thank you so much in advance and your curls are beautiful!!!

      Hi! Beef gelatine is fine or pork gelatine. I got mine on Amazon in a large bag of granules. But you can also use leaf gelatine if that’s easier to access. It all works the same way as it’s hydrolysed collagen

    Hi Marisa! Just want to ask your opinion on the following. Do you find it better to shampoo after the gelatine treatment ? I've read some wavies/ curlies clarify before a protein treatment. Also do you always use a clarifying shampoo or can a low poo also work? Thanks!🌻

    • @MarisasCurls
      @MarisasCurls  Год назад +1

      I would always recommend shampoo after a gelatine treatment. You absolutely do not want any gelatine left in your hair as it would go solid and unpleasant. Other protein treatments you could shampoo before or after but with gelatine, even if you do want to clarify before applying, you still need to shampoo after. I don’t always use a clarifying shampoo, a low poo would definitely be fine

      @@MarisasCurls can I just ask you one more thing I'm so unsure about. Do you consider a product to be a high protein product if the protein is in the top 5 or is top 10 also high enough? 🌻

    • @MarisasCurls
      @MarisasCurls  Год назад

      I would say for it to be high protein it needs to be fairly near the top but so much depends on how many ingredients are in the products as well. Because number 10 on a product with 11 ingredients will be a totally different ratio than number 10 on a product with 100 ingredients 😃
