Hi @Asma Shariyaz when you are first introducing solids usually the little one has breastmilk before the solids. Typically at 6 months of age bub's might go 3 - 4 hours between breastfeeds. Hi Emma, My baby just kept eating. I had to distract her from asking more food. As she stirs all night I’m not sure if she eats too much. How much is too much food for a six month old ? Would solids keep baby up all night?
Hi @Rob Schmitt if your little one is happy when awake and her weight curve has not levelled out or dipped then I would say she is having enough. But if you're concerned always check in with your doctor because they can see your little one in person and look at her growth and weight curves.
My baby is struggling to gain enough weight. She does not seem to react to her internal hunger signals or something. I nurse on demand and don't use a pacifier. I have been really trying to keep feeding her more and more and she is still small.
Hi @Allieif your worried at all a check in with your little one's doctor might be a good idea. The doctor can look at her growth and weight chart and see how it is tracking. This might give you peace of mind that your daughter is getting the nutrients she needs or if you need to be linked in with a health professional. Hope that helps!
@@EmmaHubbard Thanks! Going to the doctor is what alerted me. She is quite a content baby, but I thought she was not growing and developing like she should and the doc confirmed that.

I had given them taste of food from very early age , when they shoved intrest, i would just put it on the tip of my finger and let them lik it . But reall solids they started when they where around 6 months. My daughter liked solid food but my son used to jest taste it and rarely eat full meal until I weaned him of boob at age of 2.8 🙈. Thanks for your videos!! When can babies be given plain water? Also, I started solids with one meal per day, a pureed vegetable around 2pm. He is 6mo, would you recommend having some solids at each feeding time?
For anyone that's interested in the subject the whole allergen thing is actually a really spicy topic I'm just going from what I remember so don't quote me but I heard that the generation of people that started avoiding these foods actually erupted with allergens so it was more like people my age 25 there are hefty allergies everywhere directly because of what was done to avoid allergies I'm sure it was something to do with peanut crackers the study I read. Pretty interesting stuff if your into that kind of thing
thanks for the tip! Your bub doesn't have to take a bottle. Just make sure you give your little one an open cup or a weighted straw sippy cup to practice drinking water when having solids.
If a 6 mos needs approx 28-32 oz of formula a day, when starting solids, how much of that is food? How much is water? Are solids and water additional to the 28-32 oz? 😅
You should not be giving water to a baby under one year. Our doctor recommended a tablespoon of food twice a day (breakfast and dinner). Solid foods are in addition to his/her normal breast milk/formula intake. This was advice given to us for a four month old. I would reach out to your pediatrician for their specific guidelines.
My babys dr told me hes ready for oatmeal to give him that for aweek then ready for purees after the week. He’s only 4 months old should i not give him the purees?
Hi @Annabanana I would always recommend following the Dr's advice. Your little one's Dr might have recommended you start solids at this age for individual reasons. If you're feeding your little one solids while he's sitting in a high chair make sure you check out this video because the high chair will definitely be too big for a 4 month old. ruclips.net/video/ewM5oQaxcZM/видео.html Hope that helps!
I want to do a Responsive Spoon Feeding, but my little one keep doing all the sign that he want to end the meal since the first time, now we doing BLW but still not much food get eaten 🙃 is it okay to just let him like this?
My baby will be 9 month old be we are concerned about her milestone she can sit but sometime she just fall and also she can’t crawl yet not even she can stand , whenever she get excited she starts to shake her head ! Is it normal ?
Hi Zinia! It's great that your little one is able to sit. At 9 months it is not unusual that a bub isn't yet crawling. Crawling is a skill bubs generally learn anywhere from 8 - 13 months. Also shaking her head when excited could be normal behaviour. As I can't see your little one in person, it's always best to check in with a doctor if you are concerned. Wishing you all the best!
My bub is 8.5 months and an absolute food fiend. To the point she is starting to reject breastmilk in favour of solids. We did baby led weaning and she took to it like a duck to water. It's a battle to get her to drink enough milk! She went from about 900-1000mls a day to maybe 600mls on a good day. She isn't showing signs of dehydration and she is growing along her curve. But I still worry. We ensure every meal has something from the important food groups but damn it can be hard!
It can be really hard! I t is great your little one is loving the solid foods. If you are worried about how much milk your little one is having then do check in with the doctor. Even if it is reassurance that she is going well. Goodluck!
My 9mo daughter will try anything, she isn't picky. However she will not eat much of anything except breast milk. She will only eat about a tablespoon total of any solid food, then be super hungry for breast.
My dearest please share your reco on whether to start with blw from the beginning or not. Many pediatricians (in Greece) are against it for the fear of not sufficient nourishment. What do you advice?
My LO gets mad if I don’t give her the spoon when I’m trying to feed her. Then gets mad when she cleans it all off but then won’t give it back to me to give her more food. She really wants to feed herself. I started giving her solids/purées at 4.5 months and she loves food. Shes 7 months now and really wants to feed herself but it just ends up being a huge mess, lol.
😂mealtimes are so messy! You might find it easier to have two spoons. One which your little one has and another spoon which you load with food and give to your little one when she wants more food. So basically you keep swapping the empty soon for the spoon loaded with food.
My 7 month old is the same way lol we end up using 5 spoons while feeding because they All end up on the floor 😅 he gets so mad if he doesn't have a spoon, or if I dare wipe his face 😂
I stop feeding my baby whe's not willingly opening her mouth and stops making "yumyum" sounds. If she begins to close her mouth and make bored sounds I stop. Normally when hungry she'd open her mouth real big and make sounds like a wild animal lol. I don't know if that's a good approach but her weight is fine so far.
@@dudubuduub3873 The other way around actually. He only drinks milk when he goes to sleep (that's after his meals). He only catnaps during the day (his nights are really long ) so I tend to wait a bit longer to feed him solids after he wakes up. He is growing well and keeps on being quite big for his age... maybe he's extra good at absorbing all the nutrients he gets?! 🤷♀ FTM usual confusion and fear I guess XD
Hi @Allura Reid if your little one is putting on weight and is happy when awake then I would just keep following his lead. Some bub's increase the amount they are eating when they start having finger food which he should be able to manage safe food fingers at this age. It might be worth giving it a try. Goodluck!

Use a breast pump and have bottles in the fridge for the babysitter
Hi Emma, your videos are amazing. Actually I found u very late on RUclips. My son is 20 months old and still doesn't eat by himself. What should I do ?
Hi @Madhulika Singh when you say he doesn’t eat by himself does that mean he will only eat if you spoon feed him? Or will he not eat any food?
@@EmmaHubbard Many thanks for your reply. I have to spoon feed him everytime.
I also wanted to know if you have any videos for weaning. My son is 20 months and exclusively breastfed. What is the correct age of weaning and how should you proceed.
Hi Emma, My baby just kept eating. I had to distract her from asking more food. As she stirs all night I’m not sure if she eats too much. How much is too much food for a six month old ? Would solids keep baby up all night?
Thank you for your tips. But my little 9 months old eats only 70-100g per meal. She got 3 meals and 4-5x milk from breast a day. Is that enough?
@@allie8442 what's her percentile? Does she spit up a lot or has any other symptoms?
@@o0laieta0o 7th. She was 70th at one point. She does not spit up hardly at all. But the day she was weighed she had vomited for thr first time in her life. She has gained half a pound in the last couple weeks.
Hi Dear, my son is the same way. He is in the 3rd percentile. My pediatrician was assuring us that he is perfectly healthy though because he has been growing well on his curve. I find that with my son some days he won’t feed as much but then some days he won’t stop eating.
I found that baby led weaning is easier and actually less messy .
Do have any book you recommend for diet or baby led weaning?
Hi @Atzii Hunsberger I don't have a specific book but I do like this resource which was developed by dieticians and speech pathologists in Australia. health.act.gov.au/sites/default/files/2018-09/Milk%20to%20More.pdf. I hope it helps!
Yes, our allergist/pulmonologist told us that also.
And pls talk about bottle Weaning
And how to train it to babies?
Wil it be a problem later on if they don't take in bottle?
thanks for the tip! Your bub doesn't have to take a bottle. Just make sure you give your little one an open cup or a weighted straw sippy cup to practice drinking water when having solids.
Hi Emma pls tell about how to give eggs to my lil one ! He is 7 month old , he was preterm 8month IUGR baby
If a 6 mos needs approx 28-32 oz of formula a day, when starting solids, how much of that is food? How much is water? Are solids and water additional to the 28-32 oz? 😅
Yes, they are additional! The formula is the most important part
If you're feeding your little one solids while he's sitting in a high chair make sure you check out this video because the high chair will definitely be too big for a 4 month old. ruclips.net/video/ewM5oQaxcZM/видео.html
Hope that helps!
Do you ever go over high allergen foods by chance in another video? 😊
Hi Emma my daughter 2 years old but she no chewing the food she no eat veg, fruit she only like puree custard, yoguart. What can I do am very worried
I want to do a Responsive Spoon Feeding, but my little one keep doing all the sign that he want to end the meal since the first time, now we doing BLW but still not much food get eaten 🙃 is it okay to just let him like this?
Babies don’t eat a lot of solids at first. It is really a slow progression of eating more and more solids over months.
Most of the food ends up on the floor or on clothes for the first few months -- don’t worry, it’s normal!
@@jennadanielescobar4440 thank you for the reassurance! It made me feel better to continue 💕
@hanna ghina maisun that’s awesome! Keep going your kids eventually always grow up to be big kids
@@EmmaHubbard hey Emma thanks for ur reply she can sit not for long time she fall down
My bub is 8.5 months and an absolute food fiend.
t is great your little one is loving the solid foods.
My 9 month old is in the same exact situation
Hay miss.my baby is one Nd half yr.bt she is not eating sold food plz help mee
My dearest please share your reco on whether to start with blw from the beginning or not. Many pediatricians (in Greece) are against it for the fear of not sufficient nourishment. What do you advice?
Thank you for this info
No problem!
Just the video I needed! Thanks Emma!
You're so welcome!
What if your formula has iron in it? Do you still need to prioritize iron-rich foods?
@@EmmaHubbard oh that’s a good idea!! I will try that. Thank you. 😊
My 7 month old is the same way lol we end up using 5 spoons while feeding because they All end up on the floor 😅 he gets so mad if he doesn't have a spoon, or if I dare wipe his face 😂
@@ketzalzin6321 omg, loses her mind if I try to wipe her hands or face! 😂
It sounds like the perfect approach. You’re following her cues perfectly!
Why does my baby open her mouth turning her headto a side right after eating at times?
Can it mean that i have given her too much?
My little 7 month old is constipated. Any tips?
My baby takes only 1 2 spoons and then refused so what can i do she is 8 months old
And is it normal they give you the cues after 2/3 spoons (baby size) of food? Our baby does that a lot :/ he's about to be 8 months old.
Are you feeding milk before solids? Because if so he’s already full
@@Taiphen could be! Do you feed him while you eat? My boy is much more interested eating with us than by himself
Hi @Allura Reid if your little one is putting on weight and is happy when awake then I would just keep following his lead. Some bub's increase the amount they are eating when they start having finger food which he should be able to manage safe food fingers at this age. It might be worth giving it a try. Goodluck!
@@dudubuduub3873 Sorry! Feel like it took a lifetime to reply! Our lunch and dinner schedules don't align at this age :/ But you know what, suddenly, out of the blue, he just started eating like crazy! Has 2 breakfasts (eats small portions), lunch, snacks, and dinner and still takes in 4 bottles a day. Don't know what happened, it was like magic!
Heard it’s best to start solids at 6 months instead of at 4-5 months?! It said there is a study showing a link between starting solids before 6 months of age and obesity?! Can you please clarify that and if this study is true?! Thank you very much! Also would love a video on late walkers… my daughter is 19 months and not walking yet, despite making some progress… when is it too late to start walking and is there any bad consequences for doing so?! She has no other developmental issues nor hip dysplasia. Love your channel:):)
As a nutritionist, yes, imo it’s best to wait! I actually just made a video on this 😊
Hi Emma! I love your videos. My baby started solids at 4 months some days once a day and some days just breast milk. my husband sits her on his lap while eating and she watches the food go from the plate to his mouth but doesn’t reach for the food on his plate. She just turned 5 months on the 14 of march.
