thanks, in my case I'm worried that she eats too little and I find it difficult to see when she's just had enough. I don't want her to get anxious about eating, but at the same time is hard to not get anxious about a baby not eating much at all!

I’m definitely starting to make my baby anxious around food… lately at diner she pushes the spoon away almost immediately. It’s hard not to worry that she isn’t eating enough, especially since she’s always been on the lighter side of her growth curve. I’ll try to calm that down and hope her relationship with food gets healthier. Also I think one important mistake not to make is also to make sure mealtimes are at the right time for baby! I notice when we eat at 5 it goes well enough, but past 5:30 she’s way too tired and will not want to eat at all. It’s hard sometimes to have dinner ready for everyone at 5, because, well, Life. Yup I made the same awful mistake with spoon feeding. My baby will only take his very favourite foods with the spoon now. He has completely cut out rice and congee (a common staple for East asian babies). It has me super worried as well. :( He'll only self feed mostly and only a handful of foods. He's 11 months old and also stopped taking the spoon fed meals at 10 months.
It's so hard not to worry. My little one is 10 months and a half and her relationship to food is so bad now. Lately , she almost never open her mouth spontaneously when she's offered food. She would open her mouth only if she smells yogurt. I am not worried about her growth for now but meal times are sooo stressful! I am waiting for an appointment for occupational therapy hoping they can help me help her eat better.
@@chabhabettoum3916 i understand completely! My daughter is in a yogurt phase too, that’s all she’ll eat at home these days. She eats well at day care so I’m not too worried. i think it may be a combination of not hungry at dinner (because she ate so well at daycare), tiredness (we’ve been putting her to bed at 6:30 for the past few days she is so tired!), and possibly teething? (Cold and soft yogurt must feel so good on sore gums!)
@@chabhabettoum3916 I started reading a book called "Helping Your Child with Extreme Picky Eating" - there are pretty good reviews on it. Maybe you could check it out before getting therapy. Sometimes therapy can make matters worse. It really depends on what the actual issue is. I like that the book gives you confidence in identifying the problem, and then you can go from there.
*Hello everyone! How do you think I should do to set boundaries with my mom or the close family member who'll be looking for my baby when I'll go back to work?* I am due tomorrow and I'm so anxious about everything, but mostly about how to do as a working mom after maternity ends... I fear that all the discipline, educational, feeding and sleeping progress I'll make with my baby will be lost when I'll leave her with my mom. She's gentle and doesn't hit to discipline, but also she'd give up to tantrums. She doesn't read books because her eyes hurt, she'd try to make the baby eat more when spoon feeding because she fears she'd stay hungry and she would put her to bed early. She doesn't have bad intentions, of course. It's just I'd prefer to raise my baby in a certain way and I don't know what to do to make the people who look out for her do the same. I'd appreciate any piece of advice (P.S. I created a channel just to comment on your videos because I find them eye opening and life saving. Thank you for sharing all these tips!)
I'm a first time mom and I'm glad to have this videos, it really has made things easier He loves his solids because I have been trying my best to do what I can to make it as fun and enjoyable to hopefully avoid food aversions. So far my son honestly hasnt had a single issue with feeding
Thank you Emma Hubbard for sharing this informative video with us. I forwarded this video to my friend as she always struggled to feed her baby he's 20months old
Emma thank you so much for sharing this information, I'm a new mom and your videos helps me to understand my baby so much better, thank you thank you❣️
Our pediatrician told us our baby was ready to start on solids at his 4 month appointment so we took his advice even though everything we found online said to wait till around 6 months, He'll be 6 months next week. He seems to be enjoying it though
I started my son at 4 months too, our pediatrician said there’s new research on baby’s being exposed to allergens sooner being a good thing. Although my son already had all signs of readiness by then too
This seems to be debated. Our pediatrician at 4 month well check said it's better to wait closer to 6 months to start solids-- thought I didn't get a reason why.
@@roar44879 from what my pediatrician said it seems like some babies display signs of readiness before other babies. My son had all the signs at 4 months
Thats what my sons gps advise too. My son is 4 months now and she advised to start giving him some food to taste and she also said the same thing that new research suggest that its a good thing to exposed baby to allergens because when they turn 6 months thats when they usually get allergies from food?
My baby is a little over 4 months so I'm getting prepared now. I was going to get the Ikea high chair because it's simple and inexpensive but after watching your videos about feeding and high chairs I decided it was best to get one of the wooden ones that are adjustable. I think I'm going to get a Keekaroo. The child with special needs actually had one years and and I loved it, but I thought it was a chair made for special needs children. The inserts were but the chair itself was a Keekaroo Height Right. She outgrew the restraints and she was still on the wobbly side so her mom passed it on to another kiddo who needed it and it's still in use. I'm excited and looking forward to trying foods with him and I'm glad I'll have the knowledge and tools to make it easier!
@@EmmaHubbard My doctor said he can't get most Moms to wait until even 4 months to start cereal. He asked me at the baby's check up last week how long I had been giving him cereal and I said "Never?" and he goes "Right answer!" 😂 We're going to wait until he's a little older and can sit better. I'm in no rush!
Hi Emma, Thank you for all of your videos, I always make your videos as my guidelines to help us as a new parents guiding our baby. The thing that confusing us is, our baby is easily or very quickly to close his mouth regarding of foods but if we give him fruits (puree or just a smashed fruit) he open up his mouth wide and willingly without hesitation. And that happens right after the meal is finish or he's feeling full. do you know why he is like that?or maybe what should I do to make him like his main meal just as he like his fruits?
I've only seen the first 2 minutes, but I can tell this is going to be a lifesaver. My little one just turned six months and is showing signs of readiness for solid foods. Tried introducing oatmeal as advised by her pedia but I've not been successful so far.
@@EmmaHubbard It is and so has all your other videos! Your videos are one of my go to's for when I am in a quandary about day-to-day stuff with my little one. I always look forward to your new videos. 😊
I was just gearing up to try feeding our 4 month old sweet potato puree to increase satiation so she can skip her 4am feeding. Thanks to this video, I'll try to just reassure her and get her to put herself back to sleep at that time and see what happens.
Can you do a video please on best sippy cups ( spill proof!), straws or other types ( pros/cons), open cups and best silverware for toddlers as well. We r in this phase and appreciate your content very much!!

Loved the video so much.. can you please share some tips for 1.5 year old who still eats purees and doesnt like to touch the food by his hand and has no interest in putting food in their mouth.. much thankful💕
Amazing!! I just started solids with my baby. Still watching the video but was wondering when is enough? I mean I gave my baby(just turned 6 months) potatoes and she ate them well, but she ate about 3tbsp, and then 1tbsp yogurt, she still wanted more, she was crying and screaming for more! Should I give her more until she stopes? Or what should I do?
When I switched my son to solids I started out by feeding him his full bottle first and then waiting about fifteen minutes. That way he was pretty much full but hungry enough to try some solids and I didn't have to worry that he wasn't getting fed enough.
Ok, I did the interacting part with my first boy, only a few times he did taste the food! So, I was the one anxious around meal time😕this up until 2 years old! There are things working but there are also children not interested for a long time. So I stopped breastfeeding at 19 month, he is still picky, hope he will outgrow this! Second baby, 6 months, he is interested in tasting but that’s it! Same thing for sleeping, no tip is working! They don’t like sleeping! I even went further on and had an encephalogram for my biggest to check the sleeping waves.. everything normal! The advice from the doctor: to accept the situation and go on with my life! It will pass!
The high chair support is so true I now carry some resistance bands when we got out so I can either tie or slip on the high chair as most don’t have a footrest and the difference is huge. We also use bubs trolley liner to place around her because they are usually too big for her and put her in just before the food comes so she’s not restless when it’s time to eat.
Yes, I appreciate the mention of high chair adjustments! I've thought that my 8 month old daughter would start fussing after a little while just from getting bored being in her high chair, but now I'm wondering if the lack of support is causing her muscles to get tired out. I'll definitely be looking into the video on making those adjustments.
So thankful for your videos! My baby is a little older now, but I remember how much overwhelmed I was when started feeding her. I suppose I will also be with the second one that is on the way. I did make the mistake of insisting on her at first, but I believe she was just frustrated from the new experience. She was hungry and wanted to breastfeed. She has a great relationship with food now. Ever since she was 1 she eats on her own and I can also eat my food! 🎊
You can buy a pacifier type where you put fruit in it and they bite or suck on it. Idk what it's called but my son loves it. I put mango or strawberries in there as a dessert after meal times.
My baby didn't show interest in food when I used to keep him clean while feeding him but once I let him to play with food or let him to dip his fingers in food and make mess since then he enjoys food. I always let him to taste food when he was 5months old in my meal time so now whenever he sees me I'm making dinner table ready so that's mean it's his food time and he asks for food. He's 7months old now
I have watched your video on adjusting the high chair and he does stay in there longer than before (used to only sit there while watching us in the kitchen) but will still only eat a little before asking to be taken out. He will eat while on your lap or on the play mat though. Is that okay? I’m considering getting the Stokke chair if it’ll make him stay at the table so that we can all eat at the same time instead of having the adult stop eating to hold him in our lap to continue feeding him. Also, my baby pretty much skipped the puree stage(only liked fruit/vegetable puree and not rice/oatmeal) in about a week and went straight for finger foods like cereals which he will eat after rejecting normal solid foods. He will eat if he is hand fed or successful in picking up his food(pincer grip at 7+ months!), doesn’t really like to be spoon fed either.
Hi Emma! My 1 year old baby has an issue eating, she's not picky but she wants to put a lot on her mouth and she shockes most of times I don't know how to teach her to eat slowly. Same with water. I hope you can do a video about this! Thanks
Thank you for this video. I did most of those mistakes and my son is almost 20 month and he still have difficulty eating solids (vegetables and fruits) and very picky with food. I need help
Nice Video 😊.... I've learnt a lot... But My 6month old boy won't stop crying from the beginning to the end of every meal. Tho I just started introducing the solids.... What do I do?
Also, any tips for a picky eater? She won't open her mouth for some foods, but then when her fave puree is there, she'll open her mouth or eat anything offered from my fingers
You could try eating the same food with your daughter. When eating the food make sure you eat with your mouth open so she can see what you are doing. Also encourage her to play with the food she refuses to eat . She might need you to show her how to play with the food - so you can bang it on the table, wobble it in the air, roll it and more. Remove the pressure to eat the non preferred food and just play initially. Hopefully those tips help!
Hi Emma thank you for making such wonderful video with the pic… I have followed of this useful tips.. my baby does not open mouth food any suggestions on this will be a great help
A nursing mother said the only disadvantage was not being able to see how much her child got. I pointed out that she had not been able to do that for the 9 months of pregnancy. Another mum stopped breastfeeding in the first month due to being given bad advice. She became anxious at first because her baby would not finish a bottle, until she decided it was better to offer smaller amounts more often. I work as a healthcare assistant, and find it very sad when patients are apologetic about not finishing all their food.
Thank you so much for highlighting the mistakes us as parents makes. I think my biggest mistake is force feeding my daughter because she hardly eats and to my knowledge she's still hungry. And I've recently noticed that when it's meal time she does not even want to open her mouth. How do I change that and get her to eat normally again?
The reason I forced feed, like adding a spoon of food in her mouth when it goes open is because the doctor mentioned that she's underweight and it's a huge concern. What food do I feed her for weight gain.
Hi, omg! I have a 9&10 year old and now 4 month old, experiencing it over again. Not easy! I hope she’ll get the hang of it ASAP. Any tricks? She only try to taste it as a taste bud, spits it out.
Hello there! What if we don't have a high chair or any kind of chair for our baby? Personally I am feeding her on my lap or on the stroller since I don't have one.
The pediatrician suggested when my baby girl turns 4 months to start introducing rice cereal. What are you thoughts on starting the rice cereal at 4 months?
Ive recently started following your channel and i absolutely love the content. I have an 8 months old and im just not able to wean her off from pacifier while sleeping. She needs pacifier while sleeping and i tried everything :(.Could you advise or do a video on that?
Started feeding our 6-month old last week with applesauce, then pureed carrots. It was only after the carrots, though, that stopped him right up, and he hasn't pooped in five days. Are there any foods you recommend to help baby's digestive system get used to processing fiber?
My baby is 4 and half month old, doc asked me to wean her early as she was ready for it. So i started with cerelac rice only And ahe also got constipated for 2 days but it resolved by its own. But also have gripe water in case it hapens longer. If possible try to give that to the baby
Somebody, anybody help! This momma is stressed. I have a 9 month old who is still thrusting his tongue. We've been trying daily though but it's difficult to see babies younger than mine moving right along. Any tips? Can we do/try baby led weaning? My pediatrician has no concern and I took him to the ENT out of worry and they have no concerns either...any suggestions and encouragement is much much appreciated.
Hi! Can you suggest what to do if baby is already scared of food? First spoon and he wants to live the table. And how do you feed a baby at family table and eat yourself if other family members are not at home, at feeding time?
If your bub is scared of food I would recommend encouraging your little one to play with food. This means you might need to show him how to play with the food (rolling it, banging it, wobbling it, pretending it is something else). The first steps towards eating food is looking at it, smelling it and touching it. Also no worries if everyone isn't at home during mealtimes. I would just recommend you eat some of the food too and eat with your mouth open so he can see what you are doing with the food in your mouth.
@@EmmaHubbard thank you , for your answer! At the moment he likes to play whit food, doesn't try to eat himself, but it is a step up! Thak you, will try encouraging play, and then try to feed him, maybe one day he will try the playing material himself :)
hey Emma! I really need your guidance and help for my toddler. She is 2 year old now and only swallowing purees. I have tried multiple times to move her to solids but she gags cries and vomits a lot and I always have to quit for a few days and again start over. I have been trying this for 1 year but no improvement. She doesn’t have ADHD she is not autistic but doesn’t want to touch food and take it into her mouth. her weight is normal and I don’t want it to go down thats why I have been feeding her purees by spoon. Can you guide me what should I do. If I stop making purees will she try to eat something soft semi solid like nugget or cutlet or french fries. or should I wait till she understand what I am trying to say to her “ do not swallow food try and chew it” She gags as she only swallow her food. can you guide me any options which she could eat may be ? slowly transitioning for full solids
Hi mam . My baby will turn 5 months and in nepal we usually introduce solids to the baby girl at this age so would like to ask what liquid foods that I could start apart from homemade ceralac and at what intervals I can give her the food
With regards to baby's first solids, my daughter bought Organics HappyFamily Happybaby Apples, Blueberries, & Oats for her baby daughter. Sugar content is 13g. Instructions says once open must finish in 24 hours. So when she finishes the puree in a day that means she consumed 13g (3 teaspoons) of sugar. She weighs 8 kg. I weigh 68kg, about 8 times her weight. So if she consume 1 pouch a day, it is like I consume 8 pouches a day. 13g of sugar x 8 = 104g which is 26 teaspoons of sugar. That is a lot of sugar to consume in a day just from one source. Is it healthy for a baby to consume so much sugar in a day considering there are also other sources of sugar in her diet.
Hi Emma, My baby was born 8 weeks ago early, he is already 6 months. The pediatrician said we can start solids . Are there any cons to starting solids later r waiting until he is 7 months?
I've been told by both the nurses at our baby clinic as well as our pediatrician that we should start our babies (twins) on a teaspoon of cereal at 17 weeks and gradually increase. There's also some pediatricians saying that you shouldn't wait until after 6 months to start solids and we should be starting solids between 4 and 6 months. What's up with that?
Depends on the Baby.. how its gaining weight and if youre breastfeeding or not and if the Baby Starts to Show interest in food etc. there are Lots of Things to Analyze and decide if the Baby is ready or not... youngr than 4 months I would not recommend it tho
Oh I do most of the mistakes my baby is 4 months and started food.
How do you think I should do to set boundaries with my mom or the close family member who'll be looking for my baby when I'll go back to work?*
I am due tomorrow and I'm so anxious about everything, but mostly about how to do as a working mom after maternity ends... I'd appreciate any piece of advice
(P.S. I created a channel just to comment on your videos because I find them eye opening and life saving. Thank you for sharing all these tips!)
Very helpful. On my third child and need refreshed. Thank you xx
My pleasure!
I'm a first time mom and I'm glad to have this videos, it really has made things easier
He loves his solids because I have been trying my best to do what I can to make it as fun and enjoyable to hopefully avoid food aversions. So far my son honestly hasnt had a single issue with feeding
So good your little one is enjoying his solids!
Oh yeah! Makes me do happy to see 🤗 he actually LOVES trying new food, especially if it's a new texture! I love to see him enjoying his food
Thank you Emma Hubbard for sharing this informative video with us. I forwarded this video to my friend as she always struggled to feed her baby he's 20months old
I've been doing all these mistakes... Thank God I found his video
Emma thank you so much for sharing this information, I'm a new mom and your videos helps me to understand my baby so much better, thank you thank you❣️
You are so welcome!
My son just turned 4months and took to his pumpkin baby food right away he loved it.
Sounds like you will be well prepared to start solids.👏 So glad I could help make this process easier.
I love all your videos ,you are baby’s mind reader .Thanks a lot for helping us 😍
Thank you so much 😀
Perfect right timing my baby is almost six months good tips thank you soo much😘
Hope it helps!
@@EmmaHubbard ooh yes thanks alot i have been warching you through out my pregnancy i have learnt alot .well done Emma😘
I've only seen the first 2 minutes, but I can tell this is going to be a lifesaver. My little one just turned six months and is showing signs of readiness for solid foods. Tried introducing oatmeal as advised by her pedia but I've not been successful so far.
Hope the video was helpful!
@@EmmaHubbard It is and so has all your other videos! Your videos are one of my go to's for when I am in a quandary about day-to-day stuff with my little one. Thank you for the content you put out because they are so helpful to me as a first-time parent. You explain things really well and your instructions on how to do stuff are really easy to follow. I always look forward to your new videos. 😊
I was just gearing up to try feeding our 4 month old sweet potato puree to increase satiation so she can skip her 4am feeding. Thanks to this video, I'll try to just reassure her and get her to put herself back to sleep at that time and see what happens.
No worries at all.
My baby will turn 6 months old soon, so I found this video is very helpful. Thank you 🌹
You’re welcome 😊
Can you do a video please on best sippy cups ( spill proof!), straws or other types ( pros/cons), open cups and best silverware for toddlers as well. We r in this phase and appreciate your content very much!!
There is video on first sippy cups. Go to her channel und you will definitely find it
Hey @Pri USA this is the video I did on baby cups. Hope it answers your questions: ruclips.net/video/KJddjcDLagU/видео.html 😁
As a speech therapist, soppy cups are not recommended because they teach non-developmental drinking habits. They can go from a bottle to drinking from a cup with your help. Parents choose sippy cups for the purpose of mess-making, but it’s encouraged that there are no “roaming cups” around the house but instead the cup stays at the table and the child has to go to the table for a drink.
Loved the video so much.. can you please share some tips for 1.5 year old who still eats purees and doesnt like to touch the food by his hand and has no interest in putting food in their mouth.. much thankful💕
Same with my son it’s so stressful you will be so worried l don’t know what we should do
Same with my daughter dont know what to do
If you have access to a childrens play specialist they can help your baby in my experience this has always worked. Good luck!
@@TashaBabe If you have a childrens play specialist they will help you. This has always worked in my experience. Good luck!
@@hllymchll its just that Im really not sure cos Ive heard that over feeding a baby causes the stomach to get bigger and bigger (just like us, adults)
@@annarocha3254 ummmm.... Im gonna try maybe half an hour, because she usually refuses food and not interested after 10-15min
@@hllymchll sure will, thank you so much💕
Since yesterday I was searching for the same thank you
Hope it answers your questions!
Such a great idea. Thanks so much for sharing!😁
What a great idea- I have a high chair without support for the feet so I shall be using that idea. Thanks
SUCH A HELPFUL CHANNEL🥰🥰🥰🥰
So thankful for your videos! My baby is a little older now, but I remember how much overwhelmed I was when started feeding her. I suppose I will also be with the second one that is on the way.
I did make the mistake of insisting on her at first, but I believe she was just frustrated from the new experience. She was hungry and wanted to breastfeed. She has a great relationship with food now. Ever since she was 1 she eats on her own and I can also eat my food! 🎊
Thanks so much for sharing. It does get better with time!
This has really been helpful to me
Me started this week.
Thank you
I hope it is going well!
Thank you Emma good content as usual. I am sharing with my clients.

You can buy a pacifier type where you put fruit in it and they bite or suck on it. Idk what it's called but my son loves it. I put mango or strawberries in there as a dessert after meal times.
Thank you so much, this was so useful
This is timely, will be weaning my baby from November. Thanks for sharing
You’re welcome 😊
I must confess you are really good in what you do
Thank you!
Thank you so much for this 🙏❤️
You're so welcome!
He's 7months old now
Totally irrelevant but you always have the cutest tops and earrings on. Can you link them in the future?? Thanks! 😊

I can’t resist myself to subscribe you …!! Lots of love from Pakistan

@@EmmaHubbard ♥️

For messes, put a plastic table cloth under your baby’s high chair. After baby’s done, rinse it off! It saves a lot of floor cleaning!
Great tip!
Your tips are gold!! Thank you!
It’s my pleasure.
How sad that we don't trust babies to eat as much as they need. (So long as there's no medical concerns, of course!)
My baby loves her Stokke high chair. I got one second hand so it wasn't too expensive. I can adjust it to leg length as she grows.
I love how adjustable the Stokke chairs are! Great idea to grab a second hand one too
Hi, omg! I have a 9&10 year old and now 4 month old, experiencing it over again. Not easy! I hope she’ll get the hang of it ASAP. Any tricks? She only try to taste it as a taste bud, spits it out.

The pediatrician suggested when my baby girl turns 4 months to start introducing rice cereal. What are you thoughts on starting the rice cereal at 4 months?
Great ! I started my baby boy at 4 months and it’s helped him so much with chewing etc.. now he’s 6 months and won’t stop eating😂

So i started with cerelac rice only
And ahe also got constipated for 2 days but it resolved by its own. But also have gripe water in case it hapens longer.
If possible try to give that to the baby
Have the baby drink water. Doesn’t have to be much, a little goes a long way for their stools
Hi Emma, any utensils you recommend for BLW (aside from cup video)? This would be of great help! Thank you.

Awesome video
Glad you enjoyed it
Hi Emma,
My baby was born 8 weeks ago early, he is already 6 months.
Depends on the Baby.. how its gaining weight and if youre breastfeeding or not and if the Baby Starts to Show interest in food etc. there are Lots of Things to Analyze and decide if the Baby is ready or not... youngr than 4 months I would not recommend it tho
i started slowly feeding, like a tiny bit of rice cereal at each meal, all three of my kids at 3 months and they did great.
I LOVE YOU CHANNEL
Thank you so much! ☺️
