• The Truth About Potty ...
Thanks for watching! We’re you surprised with any of these mistakes?
This was very helpful! Any thoughts on starting elimination communication from the very first weeks of life?
Nope lol
Yes the poop one!! Thank you. We need help in that area and we will be trying the pooping in the diaper in the bathroom. Thank you thank you
@@allisonmerino2924 sorry I missed this one. I don’t recommend or use elimination communication. If parents want to do it then that is great. Elimination communication is essentially toilet timing. When I refer to toilet training I mean the child should indicate and go to the toilet independently. I do find waiting until the child is older means that the toilet training process can be done within a few days.
Hi emma.. I literally followed your tricks to potty train my 3yrs old boy.. He was sensible enough to pick it and was pee trained within 3 days.. At starting he use to poop on the toilet but this is the fourth day he is not telling and doing poo accidents plz tel me what to do.. I am so frustrated.. Have scolded him.. punished him rewrarded him.. councelled but nothing is working.. plz help le out
I thank God this video showed up on my feed. Oh wow. My 2-year-old was doing pretty well, telling me he needs to pee. All of a sudden he stopped and now pees in his diapers. I now realized what was wrong. One day he had a very bad accident and I yelled at him so bad. Even though I apologized to him, I now realized I got him scared. The other mistake is asking him if he needs to pee. Like the video says, his response is always no, even though he clearly needs to go. This momma has learned her lesson. Thank you
Same here! My 18mo was telling me he needed to pee and was doing very well. All of a sudden he started to have accidents and stopped telling me he had to pee. I realized that I was getting visibly frustrated at him when he would have an accident, mostly due to the lack of sleep since I also have a newborn. Not his fault, that's totally my problem. Today I really made sure not to get overly frustrated and thankfully he is back at telling me he wants to pee.
I wasnt sure though that this was the problem until I watched this video. So glad it got recommended.
Same here, 6 years, i dont know how to fix it. He will be 7 soon. He still have to wear pullup at night bedtime. During day he knows what to do but at night bedtime he always pee in bed almost every day I don’t know how to fix it
@thegodinezfamilyy1617 I was the same way. My nephew had issues until he was 9. His mom took him to the doctor and found he had a retention bladder issue and did some form of therapy, and he was good from there on.
@TheGodinezFamilyy most children will outgrow werting the bed max before they’re 18, however there is a 1% who continue into adulthood.
Unfortunately I am one of those adults. I am 29 a mother of 2 and I suffer nocturnal enuresis aka bed wetting at night mostly (extremely rarely during the day).
You can take your child to the doctor to see if there is nothing wrong and if not, start sleep and bladder training.
Unfortunately nothing has worked for me so I just wear a diaper at night time. 😁
@@thegodinezfamilyy1617 he needs a pediatric consultation since it happens in d night
Your channel has helped me so much as a first time mom and has taken away insecurities I had, so thank you for sharing all your knowledge!
I started potty training my son on a Thursday, he was fully potty trained by Saturday. It has now been a month and he has only had one accident in the past three weeks. I’m so proud of him. Just letting him be naked, talking to him about being a big boy going on the toilet, constant praise and ignoring the accidents, worked for him.
The only issue I have now is that he has figured out he can get out of a non preferred task by saying he needs to use the restroom. Oh well, I have 2nd graders that do this too. He will learn.
What's his age?
@@izelpari he is 2 and 10 months.
I let my daughter run around half naked and she gets it and hasn’t had any mistakes BUT she rarely asks to go so when we are out she doesn’t ask and I just guess and take her or she’ll have an accident. When I put underwear on her she treats it like a pull up and pees in it and still rarely asks. It’s very frustrating when you think they got it and you have to keep starting over
@@TiffanyChantee I know this is a pain, but have you considered allowing to have accident, waiting for her to ask at home. I know it sounds odd, but she may not ask if she isn’t expected too.
Without shaming her, if you don’t take her and wait. If she has an accident just remind her to ask next time and walk her to the toilet.
Many kids won’t do something if it is done for them.
I let mine run around naked for a week at 12 months - 2 pee mistakes were enough to potty train her completely she's now 29 months and hasn't had one accident. Has only been wearing diapers at bedtime ever since too.
This Is definitely helpful. Thank you so much. My son is 20 months old and started potty training already, he seemed uninterested but didn't push it. I'll start again in a month and will follow this strategy. From a frist time mom 💛❤❤
Thank you so much for your video. I'm at a loss on how to start, but your video really helped me. By knowing what not to do I can actually focus on what to do...thanks again
This is so helpful! I want to train my 20 month old but I was afraid she was a bit young... I'll definitely be rewatching this video so I don't forget anything
The pooing is such a big thing. I'm a foster carer and child protection sends me the really hard kids. These kids often have continence issues. Had a 8 year old who wet his pants all the time and a 9 year old who would only poo in his pants. 9 year is state champion cross country runner and in the talented and gifted program. Both clever kids so no intellectual issues to get in the way.
First kid I got the doctor to x-ray him and he was chronically constipated. Cleared the blockage and now he only wets the bed.
Second we cleared his constipation but he still wouldn't sit on the toilet or even squat outside. Would only use his pants. I rewarded him for wearing a nappy after dinner and then praised him for pooing in his nappy. After 6 months of getting praise for pooing his nappy he would happily do it while talking to me rather than hiding. He wasn't scared of his accidents any more. We then got him to do it in one spot that we marked with a dot. Over 4 months we moved that dot slowly down the house till it was in the bathroom. Final step was getting him to poo in his nappy on the toilet, then slowly with a looser and looser nappy. Took a year but he now goes in the toilet with no issues. Had his first sleepover two weeks ago.
So yeah... Follow those tips or you can spend a year cheering a 9/10 year old for pooping in his nappy.
Wow that's dedication. My parents foster kids and we had a 7 or 8 year old for a short time who would do that. I commend you for being so committed to help those kids. 😊
God bless you
@@JessicaWells1 For us that was a quick part. I was going to have a plastic garden chair with a hole cut out so he could poo in his nappy comfortably while sitting next to the toilet. But he pretty much went straight from pooping while standing next to the toilet while chatting, to me to sitting on the toilet in his nappy.
Because he was 10 he didn't have any real fear or discomfort from sitting on the toilet.
Another idea if it's a younger kid who is scared is to sit on the toilet lid. Even if they aren't able to poo while sitting on something solid maybe they can play some fun game while there.
@@MrZoomah my boy is almost 6. It's not a fear but the most intense stubbornness imaginable. It crosses into many other difficult areas of our world as well. Like food, etc. We're just stuck.
@@MrZoomah i have gotten him to sit on the potty but he absolutely refuses to "go" while there and he'll only sit on 2 toilets in the entire world. That's it. It's the only time he's aloud his tablet anymore
So Thankful for this video. It’s definitely going to help me! I understand potty training a lot better.
The pull ups thing is so true! I made very little progress until I stopped letting my son wear them. After that he was trained very quickly
I’m so glad I found this!! Especially since I haven’t started yet!!!
Thank you Emma. Great video. Very much appreciated.
Thank you for this video! Very helpful!
Thanks for sharing these tips
Glad I stumbled to this video , helped me learn from my mistakes.
Finally someone with realistic tips, thank you soooo much.
My pleasure!
Oh my gosh Thank you for this potty training advice. It certainly was an eye opener and life changing for potty training my son :)
You are so welcome!
Yes thank you very much for your advise I feel eager to try it with my little one now. 😊 really excited to have a go at trying it
I'm so glad I'm seeing this video before starting! Mistake 2 and 3 I could totally see myself doing! Thanks for making this!
Glad it was helpful!
THANK YOU!!!❤❤NEEDED THESE TIPS BADLY
Thank you for your video. It's very helpful 🙂
Excellent advice! I've worked in child care for many years and have potty trained over 100 children. I agree with you 100% on everything in this video. Thank you so much for making it and helping parents and children achieve success in this life skill!
What age do you think to start potty train?
Any advice?? 😂❤
My daughter and son-in-law went to Florida and I am left here to potty train my grandson, which I'm happy to do. I am so grateful I found this video before I watched anything else on RUclips. I made sure not to make any of those six mistakes. Today is day 3 and he has been dry all day and has used the potty with delight. This experience has been quite lovely although it is time consuming because I try to keep my eye on him. I've watched a lot of other RUclips videos and I'm so grateful that I didn't put him on the potty every 15 minutes or so. This has been so much more successful
This made my day to read, Amy! I'm so happy to hear it's helped make the process a pleasant experience instead of a stressful one. Making these things easier is always my goal, so I'm glad it worked for you :)
Great last name 😉 thank you for all the tips! Currently potty training my 2yo!
Very insightful video!
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you so much ..I will be starting again today ...I was feeling scared and by looking at your video have me confidence
So glad you are feeling confident. Hopefully today goes a lot smoother.
Very helpful, thank you
I'm so glad I watched this!!! Thank you so much.
You are so welcome!
Thanks for another great video.
Thanks for watching!
Thank you so much .I'm a nany it will help me train my little friend ❣
This makes so much sense. We’ve been doing it all wrong! From tomorrow it’s a change of tact.
Thought I would update. Only 2 accidents over the whole weekend, this absolutely works. Thanks so much
Make potty training part of family routine. As a older 68 year old I've had to go back to bladder training and realize that it should just be part of our daily routine. All of us should empty our bladder before we leave the house, before nap and bed times and first thing in the morning. I just always made it a family then, "Every one empty your bladder". I now have had to start again making it a point of toilet routine, I do try to empty my bladder on every hour since I've lost the control factor. This was a great toilet training vlog.
Really useful video, thanks!
No worries!
In my experience, the longer you wait after a child is two, the longer it will take. If it is to early or to late causes the same problems. This is a great video.
Thanks so much for sharing!
My son was 3 when I potty trained him and I only had to put him on the potty once and that was it, no accidents or nothing 😭❤
My daughter on the other hand is turning 3 in 5 months and ITS SO MUCH HARDER! she doesn't care about accidents and isn't really grasping the concept yet 😭 I'm having such a hard time
@@kelseyneapetung126 I have one boy and four girls and I always thought that boys were going to be harder than girls. Turns out he was my easiest. Lol.
I put my child on the pot since she is five weeks old. I never have poo in the diaper. Actually children can partially control their excrements from birth on.
I needed this video. I was making most of these mistakes. 😢
Thank you !! This advices are so great ❤️❤️❤️
Glad you like them!
Thanks a lot for these tips I'll keep them in mind
Glad you found them helpful 🙂
Thank you. Your videos help a lot.
Glad you like them!
Thank you for the great tip
You’re welcome! 🙂
#1 yes! Why should I drag my child to the potty if I know nothing is going to come out for several more hours? The pull-ups worked for one of my children, but generally I think your advice is spot-on.
Good information. Wish i had this info for my first kid.
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you as always it’s very helpful for me as first time mom 😀 lots of love 😘
My pleasure 😊
Thank you for making this video.
I request you to please make video on:
1.How to handle toddler tantrums, crying for every sill things and how to convince them to things without yelling and saying No to them.
2. I also have difficulty in sending him to school daily .how to deal with anxiety separation.
3.How to stop them buying toys , every time they go out.
Thanks for the video suggestions. I do have a video on separation anxiety which covers some tips to make it easier for you and your little one. It might be a good start: ruclips.net/video/8yXFyxgm09k/видео.html. Hope it helps!
Try reading books from Aletha Solter, it will enlighten you on many levels! And answer all of these questions, I promise! (I had those questions as well)
sorry, but you need to be able to tell your child "no" who's in charge? not the child!
@@melodieswitten7386 , thanks a lot.
As I result of DV I start potty training at 2.5y (we run away when she was 2) and she stop wearing happy in just couple of months. I’m so proud of her 💪🏻
Wow that is amazing!
You should also be very proud of yourself. Stay safe 💕
I love all your videos. Your videos helped me help my child to pull to stand, certain toys, ect. My husband and I love these videos. Very helpful with our daughter and will be helpful with our new one on the way. Thank you for all the advice.
You are so welcome!
Thanks for this info.
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you for this! I saw some thing that said 30 minutes and I thought how does that work for a 2 year old.🤷♀️ 5 minutes makes more sense
Thank you so much,lessons learned,
You are very welcome
Great advice!
Glad you think so!
Excellent. I would add noting if they are ready. Some children are ready at a very young age and others are not.
Oh god I was making some of these 🤦🏼♀️ thank you so much!!!
No problem 😊
thanks, that was very helpful
No worries!
In so glad I watched this video. 👍great tips.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you so much for this may God Bless you !
My pleasure!
Awesome tips. I have a four year old who would not poo in the potty. I have tried all of those mistakes. I just have to be patient with her. I will follow your advices. Thank you so much!
No worries at all. I hope it helps. When your little one does a poo in the pull up, if possible take the pull up off and say poos go in the toilet and put the poo in the toilet and flush the toilet. This will get her familiar with what you are aiming for.
I have the Same problem with my 3 and a half year old
I’m having this same problem with my 3 year old. He just refuses to poop in the potty. He’s good to pee on the potty so I’m glad about that but this is my last baby with a 10 and 12 year age gap with my older boys, and working from home has made this process really exhausting. But we are half way there!
I'm about to start potty training my 4th child (she's 1) and honestly the best advice I've gotten in a loooong time is to start EARLY. I mean before age 1. No pressure, just sit them on the potty first thing in the morning, and a couple times throughout the day to get them used to the act.
I NEVER used pullups.....I always thought they were way too expensive and didn't really accomplish what they're made to do. I just let my kids run around the house (just underware on, sometimes bare butt) and yeah- accidents happened! But don't freak out....its how they LEARN. Sure it's gross, but what's worse, a few weeks of accidents- or months(years) of changing diapers? You do the math LOL! Thank you for the refresher course!
My daughter is almost 16 months and I want to try. I thought it was too early because she can’t speak properly yet. How she will understand that it’s time to pee or poo? I’ll try tho, you encouraged me. Thanks!
@@YouAreLoooved It's more about a routine, just think about when you go potty, it's pretty normal to say most people have to go first thing in the morning. Even though they don't speak, they can still understand! seeing you go to the bathroom helps too
I use the potty since my daughter is 5 weeks old and it works absolutely well. I never have poo-diapers and by the age of six month my daughter very rarely even peed her (cotton!)diapers in the night.
Thanks a ton for this video.❤
My pleasure 😊
Great video. Can you discuss more about the chronic constipation in a child? How does that happen? Ways to avoid? It would be really helpful if you elaborate more please.
More water
Offer your baby more of fruits/fruit juices. You can consider Apple, pear, papaya, kiwi , banana as well.
Thank you soooooooooo much for this video! ❤️
No problem 😊
Good advice but annoying background sound!
Omg i did all these mistakes with my first child, and it literally took me so long to get him fully potty trained, this video will be so helpful as I don’t want to do these mistakes with my second one, thanks for sharing this video Emma 💕
My pleasure! I hope this time round toilet training your little one will be a lot quicker.
thanks for sharing these great tips. my daughter's Day Care was very supportive in helping to potty train my daughter at about 26 months. she had shown interest in the toilet, and I took her with me whenever I used the restroom. she also helped pick out Big Girl
panties to wear, and didn't want them to be soiled. taking her to the toilet rather than Asking was also helpful.
Emily's Mom 💖💖
You are giving very good advice, I find all your points to be true.
However, I have not found it to be necessary to potty train two of my sons. There was a time when they were just ready, and they knew that they have to go to the toilet. Then motivation was key
My firstborn son got motivated by his same age friend and neighbor. Within 2 days, he didn't need a diaper in the day or night.
My second one was trickier. I got him to use the toilet by forbidding him to do so. He loves doing the opposite of what he's told.
Now my 3rd son is the trickiest and I will try your advices on him.
Awesome. Thanks so much for these precious advices. My 2.6 yrs old made it in only 2 days after I watched this video. Since her 2 yrs we have stressed ourselves how to tackle this. I personally gave up in my mind that this challenge I will definitely fail cause my daughter was retaining both her poops n pee when I removed her diaper. Thank God. We are so proud of her now and life is much easier 😄
Well done! Massive achievement!
@@EmmaHubbard Yep. Nowadays she is even taking her time pooping in the toilet as if appreciating the moment for herself. She is relax and happy everyday to do it.
Very helpful 👍
Glad it was helpful!
Thank u for sharing this
You’re welcome!
Can’t thank you enough, unfortunately I did almost all of these mistakes because I don’t want any mess on the living room, so I took my daughter way too often to the toilet for 10 minutes. I will take all of your advices from now on. Wish me luck
Goodluck!
Thank you for sharing ❣️i did all these mistakes 🥹
No worries. Hopefully, they help make toilet training a little easier for you all!
Thanks for the information. My toddler is already 2 years and 4 months.
No worries at all. Hope these tips help when you start toilet training with your little one!
We're going through this atm, 3 yr old done now the 2 yr old before baby sister comes lol we have 3 weeks to go so fingers crossed 🤞
I’ve done all the right things you’ve listed and my kid was doing great then decided to stop peeing and pooing in the potty. He acts like he’s happy to go in his pants or spray our couch w pee!! He also goes pee a lot more then every 2 hrs 🤦🏻♀️ I finally put him back in pull-ups because he destroyed our couches car seat everything!! We have carpet all through the house too. I’m exhausted over this
I've found that every 2 hours is long too 😅 if the child drinks alot then they will gon
Very good!
Thanks!
4 mistakes I made from the list.
Do you have a video on when and how to train night time potty?
Thank you so much❤
Thank you Emma ☺️
It’s my pleasure!
Thank you, I was doing all of these.
Fantastic!
Just started potty training and so need this! Thank you
No worries at all. Hope it helps!
Excellent advice!!! Thank you SO much!❤
Thanks Rachel! Glad it was helpful 🙂
I’m in the trenches. I’m so so so grateful for you Emma!
Hopefully this helps!
@@EmmaHubbard thank you for replying! I’m going to tell you, because no one else in my life cares 😅 but I did what you said, I got a Family style, toilet seat that magnets to the lid, and a wooden sturdy two stepstool, and although she was afraid of it for the first couple of days, we’re only on day four, and she’s already stepping up and down by herself with no fear! Now, if we could just get her to tell me when she’s ready😂 but I know your tips are working, and we will get this ❤️
I made all these mistakes all at one time 🤣 thank you for the tips
Am I the only one here who doesn't have children, is a teenager and just got random recommendation?
Even if I'm never going to use those tips, great video
Hahaha! Thanks Kasia 😂
Thank you!! I’m starting to potty train my daughter today. She’s speech delayed.
Thank you so much for your tips I started the 3 day potty training and that didn’t work . Came across your video and my 2 years old was potty trained in a week 🙌🏾 we went out today for the first time without a nappy and we had no accidents and 2 wee’s in the portable potty 😀 now her star charts are full no more nappies 💕💕💕💕
❤️
All these posts of having their toddlers trained within a week of watching this video is giving me a huge boost. My daughter turned 3 and shows nothing but disinterest in the potty. I’m determined to get this going because I’m just fed up. I also have a 19 month old so it gets costly on diapers.
Thanks for sharing!
Thank you that was so helpfull for a suffuring mom
Thank your for this
No problem at all!
Great tip about the pants under nappy!
It works so well too!
Thank you so much 😊
No worries!
I wish I’d seen this video sooner. My son is withholding even giving him an alternative doesn’t work with him. Feeling stuck 😭
I know that this is kinda an old video, but I can see why parents would do these and how they could backfire! Our LO is going on 3, so we started potty training him on Saturday using that "3-day" method. Today is Wednesday, and both times that he went pee so far today, it was on the potty. None on the floor. However, he pooped in his underwear 😆 he is still a bit unsure about the potty, and I'm finding out that it's better to get him to the bathroom only when he starts doing his Irish jig with his legs! Taking him to the bathroom and trying to force him to sit on the potty only backfired on me on Monday. Oh well. I'm still learning too!
The video is great! Mom of 2 under 2 here 🙋🏽♀️
But that plant next to u needs more light asap. (Also a crazy plant lady) 💁🏽♀️
Well i just changed my alarms😊 thank you
Great tips! I have a 2.6 year old who refuses to try underwear. He gets excited by the idea but when it comes to doing it, he adamantly refuses. Any advice on how to make this step so we can use underwear with the pull ups?
Thank you for the tips! Can you recommend what to look for in a toddler that says he’s ready to be toilet trained? My son is 2 1/2 and I feel like he’s not ready yet.
My daughter is going to be 4 later this year. We have really gotten behind on getting her potty trained because I kept putting it off and she's been in pull ups for a while now 😅 This advice will hopefully help us on what will I hope be a short procress
I am sure she will catch on quickly. Finding the right motivation should make it easier!
My son is going to be three and I realized it probably would have been soooo much easier if I would've started potty training him when he was younger. But oh well, no going back now!
My brother just turned 2 and yesterday he really surprised me with how long he can hold his bladder. It was almost 4 hours. Played at home, went outside, then came back and he still spent a while playing before he went over to the potty. Went outside without changing into a diaper and just went with underwear.
Thank you...
Nice tips! Thank you. I have a stubborn 3 year old who freaks out about putting on panties or trying at all
Any tips on Potty training regression ? Great video :)
Toileting regressions tend to happen if there has been a significant stress or change in your child's life. These tend to resolve over time, if the stressor has been identified and addressed. If it is constant soiling then you might want to ensure your little one isn't constipated, as this can lead to pain on using the toilet and further regression.
Thank you Emma for this another great video,I'm a first time mom and I'm following all your tips since the day my baby was born and it's helping me to make things easier.. it's going to be a great help ..my baby is 4 months old now. So I want to know when can I start potty training for her?
Hi @Mapumenla Metsubutsur I don't start toilet training until 2/2.5 years of age.
@@EmmaHubbard thank you..
We bought a training toilet when our daughter was 1.5. She randomly sat on it. Usually we put her on there about half an hour after meals or so. She developed the habit of hiding under the table if she needed to go. I find poopind in the diaper when they are a certain age super gross. Shes almost trained just not at night and she just turned 3. It took her about a year though to get fully trained
Hi Emma,
My son is 18 months and he has done some things faster other slower. Currently he hates wearing a diaper and takes it off. What are your thoughts should I start potty training him?
That is so relatable! Both of my sons were partly potty trained by 2, but refused to poo in the toilet until they were 3 years old.
Thanks so much for sharing. It is really common for children to wee happily when sitting on the toilet but refuse to poo. Just takes a little while.
My problem right now 😩
How did you handle that? Did they go in their underwear? Did you keep using diapers until they went poo on the toilet?
Same! My daughter refuses to poo in the toilet and asks for a nappy!
@@cutethulu_xo I kept using diapers until they accepted to poo in the toilet. What happened is that the boys will tell me when they wanted to poo and I will then put the diapers...😅.
Thank you again Emma !!!! Came to rescue again
You're so welcome!
Thank you 😊
