I am so grateful I found this channel. I am about to start potty training my son and I am terrified. I’ve been reading a lot up on it to prepare myself. These tips are very helpful and make me feel a little more confident.
Emma, are you actually following me around? We literally decided this morning that we were going to take a few days off in a couple weeks to start potty training with our toddler. Every time, you know just what I need. Thank you again!
My 4 year old little boy has Autism so toilet training is a little more difficult but I will use these tips for my younger boy who will be 2 in December I want to try potty train him soon x
We started elimination communication around 6 weeks old. People don't believe me but my 7 month old sits on the potty and does her business every time I do. We use a baby Bjorn potty with the high back.
Hi !👋 i m Manaim .. Congratulations 🎉 it's a great success when your infants are diaper free 😊i m also working on my 6 months old daughter you know it's a big success when your child is giving you response in the toilet.. Mantasha always did it ... but for pee or sometimes poop when she is having motion sickness... she did it in the diaper she just started her solid a month ago ..So I just wanna know about ur experience. .. can U please share your success ...
Hello Emma, thanks so much for the video! Could you please provide the reference of the stepstool shown, it really looks ideal and I find it hard to find one that would match it... Thanks so much
This is great, my twins are a year old already, 1. when do I start potty training them? 2. You never mentioned anything about using a potty. in Africa, we start with a potty.
You should make an affiliate link for these items! You should get commissions for the items you recommend. I wouldn't have known about these great products if it wasn't for you
Also, what do you recommend for when you’re out and about and there is no seat reducer? My 18 month old is dwarfed by an adult seat and she looks uncomfortable as she tries to wee and I have to hold her under the arms. I haven’t even tried to have her poo on a big seat yet, but someday she will need to go poo when we’re out and about and I am a bit nervous about it.
Thank you for your amazing content Emma! One question: how would you handle pottying out-and-about? These products are not exactly portable, is it better to have a travel-specific potty/insert, or to just have to hold them over a toilet? I could see pros and cons to both but maybe there's a third option I'm not considering?
I see why she’s An Angel! I’m a First timer and I’m looooving the info I’ve made most of these mistakes we’ve over came now were both relaxed and don’t know the next step 🙏🏾 THANK YOU
Hi Emma. Love the videos for potty training. Would you be able to provide a link for a wooden stepping stool with handles as I’m having trouble finding one like it. Thanks
Hi Emma! I religiously follow all your videos and recommend r you to a lot of people I know. Keep these great videos coming. One question? From what age are these family seats suitable. My bub is 11 months old now. Asking because the ones I'm finding in Germany are seemingly a bit big.
I prefer to wait until the child is around 2.5 years. At this age they can stay dry for 2 hours and have the ability to control their muscles to voluntarily do a poo or a wee. A child is toilet training is when they can tell you they need to go to the toilet and goes to the toilet without having accidents during the day. I find this is something children generally achieve at 2.5 years or older. Before then children are toilet timed (so parents take them to the toilet at set times) and accidents are common.
Same question as someone else previously asked, Emma, this is really great advice but what about when you are out and about having to use other people's toilets or public toilets? Do you try and use the seat reducer then by taking it with you?
@@CalynnCorner She replied on another video where I asked the same question: "Hi Alison, when out and about you can use portable reducer rings. I do generally find that once the child is toilet trained which can happen in a few days to a week if they are ready, they will be comfortable to use a toilet at the park or shops if you just help support them. But there are portable reducer rings which fold up and go in a nappy/handbag as well."
My 18 month old’s bottom is still too small for even the family style seat reducer. Would you recommend I just keep using the little removable potty ring until she’s just a bit bigger? She’s doing great with it for now - no pinching, very successful poos and wees. Her feet also don’t dangle far enough to even touch a foot stool so for now she just puts her feet up on the adult seat and sits almost cross-legged with her knees higher than her hips.
Q1. Should a parent stay inside the toilet all the time while kid is trying to pee or poo? Child is 3.5 yr old and safely sits. Q 2. How long (time) should we wait for child to stay sitting on toilet seat? My child can sit for longer than 5 minutes (but hasn't pee or poo in toilet yet. It's just the beginning for us). Q3. So, there are 3 toilets in home. This means putting 3 famioy style toilet seats AND 3 wooden stools ? Thank you for your wonderful tips.
your child can sit on regular toilet but you need to be in front of toddler, toddler will hold hands around your knees and sits a bit lower so knees will be hire than hips..
Hi Emma, please what’s the brand of the family toilet seat in the video? I use a Bemis brand that I can remove and rinse when cleaning the toilet, but it’s wood (the child toilet attachment is not wood) and I am looking for one that is not wood and is removable.
Great video! Emma, do you happen to know about square shaped family seats? We are struggling finding one here in Europe, only found portable reducing rings for square shaped toilets. 😔 Thank you!
Thank you for this video. great help. One question: what if the child gets used to these things and then these are not available in other places like their schools etc.
No worries at all! Once they are toilet trained then they are able to generalise and use toilets without these features. You will find that the school toilets are made for kids - they are shorter and have kid sized toilet seats so they won’t need the foot stool or toilet set insert.
My son is 18 months old and I want to start potty training him. However I will be traveling with him abroad in 2 months so I’m wondering if I should start once we get back instead.
Emma, you are an angel. Questions about potty training. My boy is 14 months and I’ve purchase potty training seat for the floor it is fixed to the floor so it won’t tip over. Do I seat him to poop, and stand to pee? If my boy takes 10-15 minutes to finish pooping in his diaper. At what point to I take him to the seat? Do I add water to the removal bowl, similar to a regular toilet? And finally no one else in the family wants to start introducing potty training, how do I over come this to be consistent when at work.
My little is only 13 months so we have a while before we need this, but I'm so glad I'm getting this information ahead of time! I was noticing just the other day that when he poos, he assumes a squatting position, and I've read many times that this is the natural position that humans want to be in when pooing. I was just thinking, I wonder how I can help him (years from now haha) keep this natural position once he's ready to toilet train. The wooden ladder! That seems such an obvious, simple answer! Love it. What are your recommendations when traveling? Thanks!
We got a baby potty, just to get her to sit on, we don't expect her to use it or anything - almost half of the "extinction method" she's a year old this month. We haven't started to use it yet- any feedback for a tiny potty? it's basically an adult toilet but shrunk.
I’ve tried looking up family style toilet seats but they all look like an attached separate seat. Just a smaller hole to place over the bigger one (and looks like it can also pinch). Where might I find one like in the video? Any company recommendations?
Hi! I usually recommend starting toilet training when the little one is able to stay dry for 1 -2 hours at a time and is doing soft formed poops (so not constipated). I prefer using a standard toilet seat straight away. Kids are use to seeing their parents use a standard toilet and this is what your child is going to need to use in the end. Stat with.a potty just adds an extra transition into the toilet training process and can make the kids fearful of using the toilet.

He is doing great so far going pee in the big potty my only issue is he doesn't tell me when he needs to go to the potty. I have to catch him everytime before or when he is having an accident. Hello Emma, I have a two year old I’ve started potty training 7 days ago, she recently started saying that she needs to go pee or poop but I would know that she doesn’t have to go because she had already pee or pooped just moments before that…she especially does this when I’m talking to someone else and she just wants my attention. What would you suggest I should do?
Hi Emma, your tips are so helpful. I watched your other video as well with the idea of putting on underwear under the diapers, which I would have never thought of - it's a great idea! I signed up for your Toilet Training essentials PDF because I wanted to see what product you are using for the step-stool. Would you mind double-checking that PDF because none of the product links are active. I click on it and it doesn't take me to anything.
My 2.5 year old has been great with no pants on just going to the potty by himself. When I put underwear on him he doesn’t tell me until after an accident and then says he has to go potty. Any suggestions?
I prefer to wait until the child is around 2.5 years. At this age they can stay dry for 2 hours and have the ability to control their muscles to voluntarily do a poo or a wee. How do you know when your toddler is ready to sit on the potty? I have tried to tell her pull down your pull ups and she did but got a little upset when I told her... "ok now sit down on your potty"... what do I do now or do you think she's ready... she's a late talker also because of bad eye sight as a baby ans we didn't know until we brought her to special eye doc for little kids. PLEASE HELP!!!! IM FEELING VERY overwhelmed😮💨😩😮💨😩😮💨😮💨
It can be extremely overwhelming. I have a YT video on how to toilet train which I think you will find helpful. Here is the link in case you want to watch it :ruclips.net/video/FuEOVu6U4CI/видео.html
My boy is 3 years old, he can go pee at almost any time, he knows how to control the muscles but he has no interest in going to the bathroom. He doesn’t dance when he has to go, he has no tells, he will just go while he is playing without missing a beat and will stay wet without saying anything even with underwear. He is incredibly smart, he is reading already and can hold conversations, but no amount of Im proud of you, candy or youre a big boy mean anything to me. In fact he told me once that he just wants to be a baby and wear diapers. I have nothing. He’s been in underwear for weeks and I take him to the bathroom every two hours. He will go in the potty and then 5 minutes later he will go in his pants.
HI Kaitlyn, if your little one is able to stay dry for 1 - 2 hours at a time then they have enough bladder control to start toilet training. I hope that helps.
Interesting but when we go out and about they don't have the family seat. So I think practice with a little portable potty or the ring is helpful. We did road trips a lot with my 2nd and he would ONLY go in HIS potty 😂
NOBODY SAYS... and THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT TO KNOW.😮💨 that if your child at 2 and a half has SPEECH DELAY... you don't start potty them till the age of 3.
A language delay can make it a bit more challenging. But what is more important is if their body is developmentally ready. So by that I mean they have the bladder capacity and control to stay dry for 1 -2 hours at a time and are not constipated. If your child is able to do these things, then they are ready to start toilet training. Like you said age should not be the deciding factor. The only other thing I would add is if a little one has a language delay then visuals are extremely helpful.

I signed up for your Toilet Training essentials PDF because I wanted to see what product you are using for the step-stool. Would you mind double-checking that PDF because none of the product links are active. I click on it and it doesn't take me to anything.
Same here! No links.
My 2.5 year old has been great with no pants on just going to the potty by himself. When I put underwear on him he doesn’t tell me until after an accident and then says he has to go potty. Any suggestions?
Great vid, can’t help noticing your monstera needs attention! X
How to fix it?
So true!
Thanks!
No problem!
Can I potty train my baby at 11 months old? I’m only asking because my cousin potty trained his daughter as soon as she learned to sit up.
@@EmmaHubbard ok. I thought babies can be toilet trained around 18 months. This was a good video
Is it bad that I bought my son his own little toilet instead of what she suggested? I thought it would make my son feel more comfortable and safe.
We are in the exact same situation. Running out of options here.
@@phoebec6024 we got it figured out for ours
@@isaacbussey3216 what turned it around?
How do you also know when she has bladder control???
HI Kaitlyn, if your little one is able to stay dry for 1 - 2 hours at a time then they have enough bladder control to start toilet training. I hope that helps.
@@EmmaHubbard thanks it does😊 I will check her every hr or 2.
only 1 link in essential doc works((
Interesting but when we go out and about they don't have the family seat. So I think practice with a little portable potty or the ring is helpful. We did road trips a lot with my 2nd and he would ONLY go in HIS potty 😂
NOBODY SAYS... and THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT TO KNOW.😮💨
that if your child at 2 and a half has SPEECH DELAY... you don't start potty them till the age of 3.
At what age do parents start potty training their toddlers?
What are your thoughts on little toilets?
