    Did you say that switch was earth positive? No sure if American public school teaches that one. Must have something to do with not being grounded.?

      Actually no, Majority of old cars and motorbikes (mostly British) were all wired Positive earth. That meaning the positive terminal of the battery goes to the body. There are many theory's as to why it was this way, One theory is that the battery lasted longer and wiring had some corrosive protection this way, But later was found the body suffered instead.
