Not going to lie. MIG daddy here because it’s what I had access to. Never had anywhere or anyone to teach me TIG. Love the videos! Your static timing vid was the most helpful one I found when converting my later shovel to points. Cheers from Woody Point 🍻
The first few frames I did was with a stick welder. The gentleman that taught me to weld, decades ago. He taught me very well. I can stick better than I can mig. It's taken many years of practice. I do agree with you most people shouldn't attempt to do a frame with stick. As an American, I hate bond. I think welds should be seen. I'm proud of my welds, so I'll never cover anything I do. Excellent video.
Old Henbrow oxy acetylene welding was essentially tig welding , old race car frames etc . . piston rings snapped to size best for steel to steel Henbrow . . very interesting tech as the flame non oxidizing
Have one of those torches , they can cut around 10mm plate & use miniscule amounts of gas & so the whole thing was brushed under the carpet no surprise there
I do tig and mig, far more comfortable with mig because that’s what I have more hours in. But have been trying to step up my tig game now that I don’t have to worry about productivity and can spend more time on refining my craft.
Great Vid , Phil; An Excellent watch. I Can't Weld for FKN Shit; Concreter, Wood Butcher But Keen for some Welding Vids & Anything else you want to show us Ride Safe, Mate;; 👍🏼✊🏼😎
@@PhilsWorksdo you know any of the basic laws in Aus around this? I want to build a bike but with a new frame worries me getting it on the road with all the stupid rules around it. Cheers
Very good video, answers many of my questions. You are really talented and great at explaining! You don't think it's necessary that the bottom drive side tube kicks out to allow for ample chain clearance? Is it excessive work? Br. Erik
Thanks for the comment! Yes a stock frame had a joggle in the left bottom leg for chain clearance. But I’m my experience it’s not required if your wheel is centre of the axle plates. I have a buddy that makes them but just makes the frames more expensive
I know what you mean by the tube diameter change. It seems like the later slightly larger diameter tubing could be metric sizing. Not 100% sure, just know it measures larger.
Yeah I'm not 100% sure what they would call it in the states, It would be just a standard size. In Aus a 20nb heavy wall tube is like 10tho off the standard Harley size. Thats close enough

Mate I never had anyone teach me how to tig! Pick it up and work it out! Woody Point QLD?
Phil you make it look simple and explain it well. Top man 🏴🏴🏴
Thank you!

I totally agree! but its easier to grind back a shit weld and fill it with bondo than practice and get good at welding, so that's what people do haha
Awesome video again Phil I do Mig Tig & oxy
👍👍👍😂
Sounds like you got welding sorted! thanks for the comment and the support

I have been waiting for this video! Thanks man!
You better be doing you're own now!
I enjoy your videos, you make it look easy, thanks from Colorado. 👍
Its really not that hard when you get your head around it! Just need to jump in and have a go
brilliant video. I learnt that you will do my hardtail once I find the right shovel. 😂 . some MIG stuff would be great for us noobs for sure.
Hahaha get ya wallet out!

Man I legit haven't had a mig welder in my shed for a few years now. So everything I do has to be tig. so you and forced to use it and get good.
@ That’s a good strategy, now I just have to figure out a way to get the tool hoarder to let it go! 😂
Super sweet mate
Thank you mate!
Great video 👍 as an answer to your question, Both mig and tig.. depends on what i'm doing. I prefer tig.
Tig is much more peaceful! not getting burnt constantly!
very nice mate
I appreciate the comment!

Can you please make a video on what the road registration process is to get these types of bikes on Vic roads?
And what's the best way.
Cheers
Don’t live in Vic 😂

What thickness is the 1” tubing on the shovel/ pan frames?
I believe it’s in the 3mm range
@@PhilsWorksthank you for responding!
