      @@gurglinghermits3043 Not a chance! I love Tool but c’mon! I’ve seem other idiots say the same thing about Eminem. “This is a triple entendre.” No it isn’t. He didn’t intend that, you’re just reading BS into it. But ppl will always attribute more than there is actually there. Because they’re zealot fans. I’ve seen Tool three times in concert. Maynard never explains his lyrics saying he wants others to interpret them their own way. In other words, he doesn’t actually know what the hell they mean sometimes. They just sound good, and strange. Because they are strange. All but Danny, that is. He’s straight up.

      @gurglinghermits3043 Год назад +1

      @@frankiek2269 I’m not such a Tool dick-rider that I think maynard intends for every piece of lyric he stumbles into but there’s simply no way, on this song specifically if no other, that there isn’t lyrical greatness being displayed. Bro was absolutely aiming for those doubles and triples on some jay-z shit. Now I don’t think in terms of discog he’s up there with the MF DOOMS and Lupe Fiascos, but the fact that there are at least a few tracks like this means he’s absolutely capable of performing high level lyricism and chooses not to go that direction on many songs.

    Almost everything from Undertow and Aenima are easy listening, short, right to the point kind of songs. good start. Lateralus and 10k days they get more intricate and longer. Those are more no video or lyrics, just music first time around kind of music, because it gets very multi-layered and detailed. And then Fear inoculum are all long/complicated slow burners that are tricky to get into first time around but grow on you after few listens. Overall Tool is like next level of rock, but still never take themselves to seriously.

    • @scottw5253

      "Pushit" is far from short and to the point, and I wouldn't consider anything on Aenima "easy listening." To think that is evidence of completely missing the complexity and depth to each track

Please don't crucify me before you have had a chance to investigate. BUT - Fear Inoculum sounds SO MUCH like RUSH Signals. Musically AND vocally! I grew up listening to and loving that album....I know, I know...not a fan favorite but it's actually a really good record. Plus, Maynard's voice has begun to sound like Geddy Lee's "new" voice since he lost his ability to sing HIGH!

I kind of get that todays younger generation has a way shorter attention span with the crap the music industry pumps out today . This stuff will grow on you with age and indeed more listens . This is NOT me having a dig at you at all just remember this band has been around since 92 along with fans that are still listening to them today and still finding new nuances with every listen , and deeper meanings as we grow older . Keep it up though mate .

    Maynard's voice is a little weird in this song but that is because he has an incredible style range. Just listen to Puscifer and A Perfect Circle to discover this for yourself about his voice -- Maynard fronts these bands as well. Anyway, it took me a while to get used to his voice in this song. The Pot is also far more complex than Sober is; which is technically, not even a TOOL song. It was written in a previous band Maynard used to front called Children Of An Anachronistic Destiny. The song sounded hideous in that band but sounds great played in TOOL style. Lol 😂

Sober is literally one of their worst songs (if there is such a thing for Tool)...First Tool song for me was the grudge and I just didn't know what TF I was listening to; it made no sense to me, but again like all good art, it tapped into the subconscious and eventually I came back to their music.

    It's okay to have fun and enjoy the music my dude. Why so serious (in the voice of the Joker)? The whole song is about hypocrisy and every lyric is wonderful blend of double entendre euphemisms. If this one "dragged on a little too long," for you then you're either gonna have to let the need for 3 minute cookie cutter rock songs go or stop listening to TOOL altogether because their songs probably average 9 minutes if I had to guess. It's called progressive rock for a reason - the songs progress through stages that build and ebb and flow and crescendo and recede and crescendo again, etc, etc. I've listened to these guys religiously since '93 and even as much as it pains me to say it, I will admit that they do have a couple songs that do drag on longer than I think is necessary, but the band didn't ask for my input when they wrote them. I love their music so fuk'n much so, I just think, "oh well," and keep it pushin'. Spiral out, keep going
