'Wings for Marie, Pt. 1” and “Wings for Marie, Pt. 2” (also known as “10,000 Days”) by Tool are deeply personal songs written by lead singer Maynard James Keenan as a tribute to his mother, Judith Marie. The songs reflect on her life, her unwavering faith, and her strength in the face of a debilitating stroke that left her paralyzed for 27 years, which is roughly 10,000 days. These tracks explore themes of grief, spirituality, and the afterlife as Keenan grapples with his mother’s suffering and her eventual passing. The emotional depth and complexity of the lyrics invite listeners to contemplate their own experiences with loss and the search for meaning beyond it
Please do H. by Tool. It's about becoming a parent and reflecting on your past. Reflection is also a good choice by them. These 2 songs fit your job better than some other songs you've done by them.
The guitar solo is played through a TalkBox. The sound travels through a vinyl tube into Adams mouth and is manipulated by his jaw movement. Classic and always cool
Today marks one year since I lost my brother to stomach cancer. Thank you for being here when I needed it. He was a great father, son, husband and brother. Synchronicity would have you listening to Jambi.
This is Maynard battling the demons of being a Rock Star after becoming a father.....he was jumping from one reality to another.....and debating if if he should give it all up for the boy! The battle of wants and needs... He wants to be a rock star....he needs to be a father
Most underrated, but great song, imo. Love the way MJK sings it. How they coordinate all the time signatures/changes is beyond me. No boring 2 minute pop songs here.
I'll have to check if you have done parabol/parabola from Lateralus. Have you listened to his other bands? Perfect Circle is amazing,.and Puscifer is just good fun. You've seen the sphere in Las Vegas? I know one day tool will play there. It would be an opportunity of a lifetime. I've been blessed to see tool about 10.times. they are even better live.
Taylor, just wanted to let you know how much I love your channel, the way you breakdown the lyrics and give us your insight on each song ! I am a big Tool fan and can tell that you are also a fan , I am also your biggest fan and simply love your reactions and facial expressions..... never change ! 👏🤘❤️
Taylor, I spent over 20 years in therapy. Oh how I wish you would have been one of the many. I would have been extremely lucky to have you as my therapist, you are awesome
Last Nov of 2023 I saw TOOL my fav band in Toronto near where I live. They played Jambi with Alex Lifeson from the band RUSH. They led Into Jambi with the solo from RUSH's a passage to Bangkok. It was mind blowing while that solo was happening I vividly recall having an outer body experience or hallucination. It was like I was listening to that solo & than Jambi while being standing on Saturn's rings 🪐 it was wild I couldn't believe what I was hearing it instantly took me away psychologically speaking.
They honestly don't have a bad track. The albums are concept albums to me. React to entire albums to get the full experience. Segues, interludes, hidden tracks, album art. Pink Floyd passed the torch to TOOL, and they've been keeping the album experience alive and well.
My son and I have both seen Tool a few times, we were BS'n about the "best" possible set list. I told him a show their "worst" 12 songs would be amazing, he agreed. Agreed on the concept album 100% as well.
You are awesome i love your reactions tool is in itself a certain type of religiocity. Their music is the tool to help us reach, and push, and be okat in the discomfort. Thats why tool fans are so hard core. Its an experience not just noise to sing to.
i became engaged to someone with a terminal illness years after the last time i heard this song and it hasnt been the same. ive never felt so helpless in my entire life. life is.. something
@heartsupport just wanted to say thanks to Taylor she's truly a light and y'all have made me smiling when I don't feel like it so thanks love and appreciate you guys
They opened with this when I saw them in 2007. What a way to kick off a show. Also, I’m glad you got the Jambi connection. Not a lot of reactors have any clue about that.
This song is about Maynard’s son. Many layers of course, they would watch Peewee Herman together, but it also refers to the original Jambi who was a great sheik. Never just one meaning with Tool tunes.
This is a popular opinion, but never one I’ve seen confirmed anywhere. We should always as listeners say “I think this song is about…” if we don’t know for sure.
TOOL'S evolution from angry/defiant youth, leaps forward each album toward a deeper understanding of the human spirit. Jambi represents Maynard's reluctant transformation in his acceptance of spiritual power and its role in his life. The song demonstrates his developing awareness that a life filled with riches and debauchery is absolutely pointless without the sunlight of the spirit. Not religion, but the spirit of life inside all of us! Its the fulcrum, the center, the sun and light that he comes to understand as the key to happiness, that he would wish all his riches and fame away to keep from being divided from.
Just give me all SOAD and Tool songs and I'd be happy. They are two of my all time favorite bands that I've been listening to for two decades and I'm not stopping now. I really love hearing your thoughts on their music, anybody would lucky to have you as their therapist!
I appreciate the tones that lend toward his relationship with his mother, but I'll also offer you this. I have always felt that this song speaks to a discussion between who you are now, and who you were. And wishing there were a way to give them the time to learn from you what knowledge they could now benefit from. Like a time traveler being able to pass a message to themselves a while back.
From a fellow therapist (and huge Tool fan): thank you for these awesome videos and your insights! To everyone else: This song is a fucking therapy in and of itself.
I noticed I keep coming back to watch your metal reactions. And I'm here for it. Subscribed! I've struggled with depression over the years but music definitely makes things easier
A dedication to a loved one. The sacrifice one makes for the loved. Giving it all up to spend time with the loved one. Jambi was the name of the genie in Pee-wee's Playhouse. A wish.
Nails lookin 🔥. Also, I feel like the big problem with thoughts and prayers is that quite often it's about "what about me in your trying times". All too often it's about self validation and attention parasitically attached to someone's trauma.
So grateful for this series! Your understandings of Tool has not only deepened my love for the band but also how their lyrics are intertwined in my own life. I’d suggest: Intension Reflection Descending Invincible Right In Two I’d love to hear your analysis of these!
I play in a Tool tribute band and despite hearing the music all the time, listening to Taylor break down the lyrics has given me an entirely new connection to the music! Thanks Taylor!
I love your take on it! For me, I honestly think it's a love song to someone who he nearly lost (or did lose) through the temptations of the world he lived in...there's a vision of someone feasting and living large, tempted by devils and this partner he sings to resuced him from this, became his balance, a sense of wholeness, in life. That last part seems to be him addressing the demons in his head that seek to disrupt this relationship he has with this person through gluttony and the typical temptations that come with being a bonafide rockstar!
Jambi is such a banger and delivers some incredible depth at so many levels. I can also relate to the message and it makes me tear up if I open up to it. Lovely reaction and insight. Keep the Tool train going!
So you said during Adam's guitar part, sounds like a person. It was Adam using a talk box during that. It's incredible in person. Im thankful to have seen TOOL 17x live, MJK 24×. Glad your channel showed up in my feed.Youre awesome! Subscribed after 1 video. Wings is a tremendous recommendation. Dont forget The Patient and Right In Two.... 💯💣💥🔥
I absolutely adore you, Taylor! You’re awesome. Jambi Is most likely about his son, as is H And probably others I don’t even even know about. However, you’ve definitely hit the nail on the head regarding the message. Thank you for doing this.
Just discovered your channel and love it! You're doing awesome with the tool reactions. One more suggestion: Reflection. It's the most therapy session song they have.
keep up the tool reactions love them ..i live with ms , epilepsy and tbi been disabled since 2012 not a fun life with ms....cheers all ..cannabis is the way ..overgrow overshare overcare overseed everywhere worldwide ...i live in isolation with my plants and animals in oklahoma ..

I did not piece together that this was quite what this song was about, but wow what an interesting take. You post this and say that, right as I am in the midst of trying to help someone I care about cope with her relationship in which she is being abused. Unbelievable. Jambi! Please take her suffering away....
Ive been struggling with life for the last two years and tool is always there helping me keep my mind in place, and now your reactions are like the strawberries for the cake lol thanks :)
I really enjoy your breakdown and reaction. I think there is also inspiration from him and the love of his son. Like you said this song applies to those you love but can't always project/heal. in the case of a child you can only do so much because they have to be their own person.
I forgot to share about two TOOL videos ago but you were spot on a stinkin thinkin of mine. Thank you. SHAKE AND BAKE! Wow thanks for showing both timeline reactions!! The editing is 🧑🍳💋
Excellent video, you brought up some great points I hadn't thought of. It never occurred to me that this was about empathy...even though I should have, since that's a strength of mine. :)

TOOL has been with me since the early 90’s constantly in my car and my man cave, have all their cd’s ( even salival ) my daughter and I have seen them four times live, incredible musicians, Maynard’s lyrics are so deep and personal. I’ve got all the Perfect Circle as well as Pusifer. Spiral out…
Good summation on this song. I'm not good at interpreting song lyrics, especially with Tool song lyrics. I was always more impressed with how heavy musically the song was.(I love the heavy, what can I say?) But your interpretation made absolute sense. Be the light.
Adam is using a TalkBox on his guitar......the sound of the guitar goes in the device and the sound comes out a tube that you put in your mouth. The sound coming out of the tube you can change by the shape of your mouth and that is then picked up by your microphone that you have near your mouth.....
Amazing song. And this one's my fav Tool album of them all. They're all great but the atmosphere in 10,000 Days is just so absurd while human at the same time
Yes. My feelings are my own and others shouldn't affect my decision. I feel that others attachment is selfishness on their own terms. I have made it 20 years with this mindset. I have not felt suicidal. I am on meds for depression and anxiety. But I still feel the words of Schopenhauer. However the web doesn't allow me to present his "Essays and Aporphisms" on suicide. Pg 77-79.
You absolutely have to react to While She Sleeps: To The Flowers. It is right up your alley, great music and a very moving video dealing with some deep issues!!!
Your thoughts on "thoughts and prayers" are so true. Half of my hometown burned down due to forest fires a couple days ago. I see so many posts on social media "thoughts and prayers - but what about my vacation??!!" And it is insanely angering.
I think the song is about having a child. When i met my daughter (i think in the songs case, his son), this song is about how it changes you, and because of them and their light, it leads the way to being a better human. It's about the experience of your life becoming about someone else, rather than yourself. I'd wish it all away if it lost you just one day. As a dad, i have found that i feel like id happily stop existing if i thought me existing would lose my daughter even one day of her life.
That fraction of a clip of The Fifth Element cracked me up because the musician/occasional actor Tricky who was in the Parabola music video was in the movie about a minute later from that scene, he’s got some pretty cool music too and was a pretty important figure in the 90’s Trip-Hop scene
Man, this song ALWAYS gets me pumped. The idea of loving someone soooo much to be willing to sacrifice everything in your own life to have that person be around or be happy is absolutely powerful to me. What kind of love like that exists today? Most people are so selfish it’s rare to find someone to have that level of passion.
I just lost my wife. We were together for 13 years. I lost my mother last December. And I lost my job this April. Listening to music brings me joy and sadness but it helps me. Thank you for doing these videos. Tool has been a beg part of my musical journey through my life. I even got my wife into it. Lol.
For the guitar sound on the solo, Adam is using a pedal or effect called a Talk Box. To keep it simple for non-guitar nerds, it’s a device plugged into your amp from your guitar and has a plastic tube attached to a mic, using your mouth to manipulate the overall tone. Peter Frampton and Joe Perry (among others I’m sure) made these popular.
Jambi is one of my favourite Tool songs. There are so different ways of thinking about the song. It's funny to think that Jambi the genie got its name from a sandwich shop, or so the legend goes. On another level, the song has incantation vibes via changing time signatures and talk box solo. So interesting. One could go on and one, but alas, the day calls and errands beckon. Thanks for posting. Cheers!
Love your reactions: if you really want a mindblow, try doing an entire album! If you piece together each of the songs as a full kind of 'story' or 'essay' you find a whole new level of wtf! Start with all of Lateralus but definitely do Fear Inoculum!
I love tool, and this therapist is awesome and cool
awww thank you!

I completely agree that she should review these, preferably together. These are very important in understanding how and why Tool has changed so much.
Please please please react to Wings and 10k days... You won't regret it
Even better if she can do Judith by A Perfect Circle first!
it's coming :)
@@HeartSupport Perhaps Gojira later as well? The Gift of Guilt would be a good one.
Please do H. by Tool. It's about becoming a parent and reflecting on your past. Reflection is also a good choice by them. These 2 songs fit your job better than some other songs you've done by them.
Just do every song by Tool, eventually. ;)
+1 support this decision
I am the only one who restarts the song if I get distracted during the storm passing part?
Absolutely!!
@@isgrimner 100 percent, they only have so many songs. they're all great
The guitar solo is played through a TalkBox. The sound travels through a vinyl tube into Adams mouth and is manipulated by his jaw movement. Classic and always cool
I love that he described it as a "pipebomb" mic
Peter Frampton used the heck out of one!
Bon Jovi did the same
And Joe Walsh!
I recommend “Right In Two”, my personal favorite.
I feel like Right in Two was inspired by Perfect Sense by Roger Waters, check it out. Thematically very similar.
Today marks one year since I lost my brother to stomach cancer. Thank you for being here when I needed it. He was a great father, son, husband and brother. Synchronicity would have you listening to Jambi.
going through something very similar with my brother right now. my whole family is in the trenches

I just lost my wife. We were together for 13 years. I lost my mother last December. And I lost my job this April. Listening to music brings me joy and sadness but it helps me. Thank you for doing these videos. Tool has been a beg part of my musical journey through my life. I even got my wife into it. Lol.
Stay strong my man! Always use the happy and joyous to help with the sorrows.
So Sorry to hear about your loss 🥲 I lost my daughther and both my parents last year, so i know what you’r coming from !
Cheers!
This was so good live in 2019
Lateralus is the best album and probably best song
Love your reactions: if you really want a mindblow, try doing an entire album! If you piece together each of the songs as a full kind of 'story' or 'essay' you find a whole new level of wtf! Start with all of Lateralus but definitely do Fear Inoculum!
Your thoughts and prayers quote made me think of another Maynard line from a perfect circle "thoughts and prayers adorable like cake in a crisis"
Very cool take on this.... This was a good one 👍
Great reaction 🫡
