I'm soooo impressed that you have listened to all the musicians in the entire world and discovered that there is "no one on the planet as intelligent and talented when creating music" as Mr. Knopfler. Impressed by your ignorance and bald-faced lying. He's recorded some boring shit too, as he would be glad to tell fan-boys and girls like you.

Recommendation: Buy "Love Over Gold" (contain only 5 tracks) ... Feel your sould being touched! By Dire Straits and Mark Knopfler. Very versatile album. First time you listen, do this: Lay down in a dark room, with headsets on. You will never forget that moment ! (I get goosebumps from just writing this) Especialle the guitar solo on second track, the almost 7 minutes long "Private investigations" (performed on spanish guitar, by Mark Knopfler). Superb !!! [ps. The solo played here (from Alchemy Live) is at the end of the 14 minutes long first track "Telegraph Road", on album "Love Over Gold" ] If you tried out my recommendation - let me know if you agree it was a memorable journey and experience.

Mark is unique: his way of playing is superb! He cannot be compared to other guitar players because he's something apart. Somebody here's right saying that there are guitar players and there's Mark Knopfler. He plays with the feeling of a blues man and the perfect elegance of a Bach theme; he can be smooth and strong at the same time. His guitar talks and he never overacts: he plays what he needs to play to say what he wants to say... This is the blues side of Mark: like and old blues man he uses the guitar to tell a story, to fill the lyrics and to talk when the singing is silent. And then his solos: I'm not a fan of long guitar solos and after one or two turn around they bore me. But Mark's music is the only one I could listen to for hours. He was a real genius and I wonder how can some web-zine not consider him when they say something like "The 50 best guitarists in the world" (and Mark is not included). His riffs, licks ans solos are gems of the music. But Mark is also a terrific poet: some lyrics are real poetry: his verses are often dreamlike, mysterious, full of memories, evocative... Clapton, Gilmour, Hendrix, Page are great, ok, but Knopfler is Knopfler! And he was shy, humble and a private person: not a boaster!
Just LOVE Knopfler's style. So smooth and emotive. He can make a guitar sing, he can make a guitar cry, he can make a guitar cheer, etc. The guitar takes on a personality all its own when Knopfler plays it. He is one with the guitar. And he's technically good, too. That is what sets him apart. My favorite axe man, hands down.
Truly one of the greats. I liked the shot of the crowd clapping and beating their hands on the stage liked babies in a crib playing along to some of the greatest music ever recorded.
@@JohnDoeDeadhead420 I happen to be a big Gilmour fan and Clapton is pretty good. The Dead never did it for me at all. It doesn't matter, I stand by my comment. As for Gilmour, he hasn't written lyrics in decades. His wife Polly writes for him. And I don't know many lyrics to the Dead, but the ones I do know are alright, but not like the poetry of Mark Knopfler, in my opinion. So again, I stand by my comment. I don't believe there is a "best" player or writer, but for me Knopfler combines both in a unique way, nobody does it like he does.

Dire Straits were one of the greatest bands from 1980 till 1985. They're awesome! And 40 years later, they still sound amazing!! Tunnel Of Love guitar solo is a one of a kind masterpiece!
A brief collision of everything that makes a live performance a magic moment. Knopfler's technical skills and his musical creativity were at a peak, the band was enjoying themselves and the song is a masterpiece in itself. Awesome.
This transports me staight back to the 80's. Beautiful, memorable and thankful for being there, as a young Man, at the time. Wonderful talent on display here.
I saw them play the Alchemy tour live in Sydney (1985.. I think). My memory might be fading but I think he even wore the same t-shirt and red jacket. As good as this video is however, and I still play the ‘live’ album today… justice isn’t served. It was overwhelmingly the best live performance ever staged .. (and I’ve been lucky enough to see most of the ‘great’ rock bands). Undoubtedly the band was very good but Knopfler blew them off the stage and us out of our seats. Definitively, Knopfler’s live solo in Sultans is the benchmark which every guitarist playing live shows should be measured by.
Terry is just incredible on the drums on alchemy. I reckon he steals the show. Amazing speed and fills. But also sensitive and slow when required. A real master.
Mark Knopfler is a premier musician whose voice really "tells it like it is". His music ( and his life) are full of vast experience.... His thrilling and sometimes hauntingly poignant guitar virtuoso playing shows that he both enjoyed and suffered in his life. A real artist.... It wasn't too surprising for me to discover that he is in fact, a half-Jewish boy whose father escaped Nazi occupied Hungary in 1939. Must have been quite "a trip" for Mark Knopfler to grow up with such a family background in Scotland and northern England. I would love to sit with him and talk for a few minutes one day...

@@philipliethen519 Mark Knoffler special
I remember vividly being in the Bar Nash in '78 listening to DS over and over. The windows all fogged up from the bs being spread as plans were hatched for the next trip up the hill. Maurice pouring beer after beer, his daughter waiting tables and the laughter. Holy shit those were good times. DS was this alpinist's go to band for the energy to live life.
That alchemy tour was amazing, the album brilliant, knopfler at his imperious best, sultans of swing, tunnel of love, telegraph road etc them guitar solos, magic, Jim O'Connell
The most underrated guitarist of the modern era.
Have followed DS since they formed, bought their first album called "Dire Straits" (strangely 😃). Last saw them at Birmingham Areaa good few years ago, still superb.
Stunning , simply perfect. I had a smile on my face all the way through. It took me to a mind trip. Beautiful. Thank you dire straits.
All I can say is WOW!!!!! I Love Dire Straits!!👌👌👌
Remember Mark doesn't play anything the same way twice yet all versions are simply superb.
