    It seems that the video title was unclear judging on the comments, I'm not quitting raiding. What the title means is that it almost destroyed my guild and that it almost made me quit raiding.
    Sorry for the confusion!

      Big respect to you man. I could tell near the end of the video you were getting choked up, that's the mark of someone who gives a shit about what they've invested such a big chunk of their time in to. My guild is going through similar shit with M-NH progression and we're working through it but we're also starting to feel the burnout. I'm glad you guys pulled through it and came together.

      stop taking is so fucking seriously. ITS A FUCKING GAME. If you are going to play it like an elitist bitch then no one is going to want to play with you, no matter who you are. This is the problem with wow, guild style planned raid times. Just join a pre-made, keep your mouth shut, do your best, and go on your way.

    Speaking as the founder of Indestructible 8.5 years ago, thank you Asmongold for having the courage, fortitude and determination to keep the guild going and kill Mythic Guldan. We went through similar drama in H ICC, and all that didn't kill us made us stronger. I haven't raided with you guys since Cata launch, but I still root for Indestructible and will continue rooting for you until the very end. Good luck, you have transformed yourself from the guild's loudmouth elitist in Cata to my IRL hero. Thank you.
    P.S. now that you have Mythic Guldan out of the way, moar comedy vids plz kk? Thx.

      Bro, for a guild to last as long as 8.5 years, that's some mighty shit on it's own. The fact that NH could've easily killed a guild with that kind of history is even mightier. It takes some big kahuna's to step up and not let a guild die and then go on to get the Mythic Kill for a raid that almost killed the guild is epic.
      I'd be proud of the guy too if I had of been a founding member. There's some good history in this guild and Asmond not only saved that history, but also added a massive achievement to its books.

    Asmongold:
    Quite honestly, I don't know where to begin. Your story hit me hard. I have a hard time in World of Warcraft, because I have Cerebral Palsy, and a fused left wrist. Because of this, I have a hard time with Raiding because PUGs don't have any patience with me. They skip trash - I end up pulling it. They do those jump glitches, I can't do it because of my hands. I get called a noob. Once, I even got called a BOT because I get lost or turned around. My brain knows mechanics, but my hands don't cooperate sometimes and I get kicked more often than I finish raids.
    I my humble opinion, the Ahead of the Curve achievements have ruined World of Warcraft, because people no longer have the patience or fortitude to learn, plan, adapt, and evolve with the world of Azeroth. It makes it hard for players like me to join groups because they are asking for those with AOTC achievements - and so I am often left behind the curve.
    I tell you this - not for pity - but because your story has inspired me to keep going at my own pace. The rewards will come - and more importantly - the few people I do play with understand my situation and do not judge me. I only play on weekends, as I spend my days writing novels and poetry books (I have published one of each - working on the second novel now), doing computer classes for Excel Certification, and practicing Shotokan Karate (2018 US Open Paralympic Kata Champion - Silver Medal - currently going after a Green Belt), and many other things.
    I have a 110 Warlock (Alliance), and I have earned every bit of the achievements that I do have with little help. I leveled said Lock from 1-80 doing nothing but questing when I started in 2008 - BEFORE BIND ON ACCOUNT GEAR EXISTED! Just thought I would throw that in there.
    Your videos have always been a go-to for the achievements I would like to, uhm, achieve! My current guild no longer raids, and I would like to find one that would be willing to take me in. Maybe someday....
    Blessings to you always, in spirit.

      Because signing something is, in western cultures, a showing of owning the statement or being proud of it. Even if someone knows who the letter is from.
      How often do you get letters in the mail that are signed at the bottom. They have a return address on them you dont say "Wtf did you not think your address was on it"
      As for this person, they are proud of their statement and should be. And you should be ashamed of yours.

    I tried going for raiding in Legion, joined a hybrid raiding/social guild, but i soon realized that systems like Legendaries and Artifact Power was too annoying and broken for my taste (remember no bad luck protection after 4th leggy? remember some specs NEEDING specific leggys to be even viable? remember Maw of Souls spamming?), so i started going social and returning to my old love for casual gold making. Things went decent for my guild, they got us a 7/7M in Nightmare, but in ToV, they never managed to kill helya. Some officers started leaving, our GM got a position on a pro Overwatch team, and bad signs for progression showed up left and right. In the beginning of 7.2 it finally became official, the guild was going full social. I'm gonna miss a lot of ppl who left, but some of those ppl still hangs around today on alts, we have some casual raids and m+ runs on our calendar still, but it still hit me hard back then.
    if you actually read all that, i thank you for listening to my ramblings.

    As a rookie GM and raid leader of a guild that has been around since mid-WoD, your story is really inspiring to me Asmongold. We have been very hesitant to push Mythic NH too hard because of the same issues you spoke about in this video and have lost 5 members in the last two weeks, and dropped a raid night to avoid or at least slow the burnout of progression in such a difficult raid. If we end this tier only 6/10M I will consider that a win, knowing how brutal the rest of the raid is on the group as a whole.

    i have a similar story to this but it started early in the tier, exactly at the start of nighthold. my guild saw that progress is just a big hassle and staying on top just took too much time and effort when everyone in the guild just became too old for hardcore because of our IRL jobs and families... My guild is 10 years old and we have been hardcore ever since TBC however recently we went the casual route because of all the hassle legion raiding offered.
    I feel sorry for you Asmongold that the core people of your guild left and abandoned ship, one core thing in my guild is that we all were friends and we built our bonds for 10 years and have been loyal to each other ever since. We all agreed on that we have enough and just simply all agreed that we will focus on Heroic raiding only because of the ease of flexibility and also do mythic kills every now and then when we have the correct numbers and just do farm. no progression required and no hassle there.
    Ofcourse it takes people that are loyal and have similar mindsets so that's how my guild succeeded... sure we do not do mythic raiding and we are far far off from a mythic guldan kill however we simply do not care about it and just want to keep raiding together because of the bonds.
    Stay strong Asmongold.

    i come back to this video very often. not only was this the first asmondgold video i ever watched, it was also the first wow video i ever watched when i came back to the game at the end of nighthold. i was absolutely dogwater, grey parsing in an aotc guild as low-end raider and as someone who didn't know how to do my rotation let alone aspirations of running a guild. 5 years later and since then I started a guild and have 4 straight CE's as a 2-night guild under our belts through some of the worst content blizzard has ever put in the game with everything at it's worst and this video (among others) has helped keep the lights on. so thank you for that.

      Truth Seeker a little late but no, nothing like football, football has unexpected outcomes, from a huge play off of a short pass. To a blocked field goal return to win the game, raiding you know the outcome already and get to try and try again, you also know what you need to do and actions of the raid are already made by the programmer before you even know the raids name

    My guild is running in to the problem of getting people to show up to mythic raids. Why run mythic raids when heroic gear can titanforge up and gear you out. Mythic is harder, time consuming, and the rewards are lacking in these people's opinion. I myself enjoy the challenge, transmog recolors, and the prestige of it. Most applicants we get only want to raid heroic. Mythic raid ready people on my server only want to join the tip top raid guilds that are almost mythic cleared and not work through progression.
    TLDR : Blizzard made mythic raids almost entirely pointless

    im The raid leader of a daytime EU mythic guild and i can sympathise with some of the problems you had and i can extremely relate to what you go through, because as a daytime raiding guild we face the same problems every single day not having the player pool to pick from as a night time guild would. So to get through hat tough time is a testament to you and your management teams leadership. Its rough how you have to manage players but you did it in the only way you had left and sometimes thats the way it has to be. Finally big gratz on clearing the instance :)

  • @silversurfer8818
    @silversurfer8818 7 лет назад +5

    I just love that when a key player leave, most of them has put them selves on a pedestal believing that without them "you" cant progress - you fill the gap, which in some cases is difficult, you work hard and allocate a tremendous amount of effort and finally reach a goal that you previously couldn't reach. That feeling when those that left wants back into the guild - you in turn gives them the thumb down and drop the mic in front of their faces. knowing full well that we did better when they weren't here!

    Never knew you went through this, I commend you for doing everything in your power to keep it going. This kill was well deserved and I hope it brought you some happiness. You asked for similar stories in regards to what you experienced. Flashback to right before legion release, I was a raid leader along with several other players that I've played with since Vanilla. Everything went fine, we cleared some bosses in HFC, had a good time. Legion releases, our GM takes a break as he was burnt out. I decided to step up and give it my all and try to make things happen with the guild. I talked to a lot of the guild, and most assured me that they were staying, they liked raiding here. A couple players left, but to be expected when changes of leadership happen. By the time Emerald Nightmare was released, I went from 20 solid raiders down to 5. The very same people that left the guild were the ones that said they weren't going anywhere. I took those 5 raiders, did some heavy recruiting and only managed to get 1-2 more. Faced with what to do decision, I gave pugging a shot. The raiders that left went right into heroic EN and proceeded to wipe all night. The people that joined and the 5 that stayed, we cleared all the way to Cenarius the first night. Only doing 1-2 attempts max per boss. We had #3 and #4 on most kills that night on the server (#8 and 12 on Cen/Xav). Sadly lifestyle changes forced the guild into disarray and ultimately ended with only 2-3 remaining.
    What you had to go through I can relate and commend you for holding it together and giving it your all.

You're the one who has the best idea of what the guild was like, and always has been like, since the early days. That means you are the guy with the chance to keep that 'soul' of the guild alive and well. Rebuild it if you have to, as something old but also new.

    Back in cata, mists and dreanor, my guild was in the top 10-5 of my server for both horde and alliance. When EN, ToV and NH came out we dropped around 5-10 core members of our guild, mostly due to work and stress, so we went from a mythic raiding guild to a heroic raiding guild and we are now within maybe the top 50 if we were to check. it is hard recruiting and making new officers out of untested and possibly bad choices, but if you stick to it you can help make your guild, not what it was but what it has to become , to make what you need to do possible.

    Damn man, my guild is only 4/10, of course having just killed Krosus, and we're having the damn same issues. I'm burning out, our members are burning out; the attrition is real. I don't know how the hell you pulled the guild together after all that. I'm trying my ass off, recruiting like crazy, trying to find a good mix of personality and skill. It's hard as fuck. Good job man, I know at least part of the struggle.

    guilds falling apart is a rough thing if you been in for the long haul. I remember when it happened to mine, A dispute with the main tank and the 2 guild leaders caused her to quit (they were being dicks to her), then not long afterwards the 2 leaders decided to faction and realm switch out of the blue effectively asking us to pay to do the same or stay in a dying guild. One by one they left and I only stayed out of a nostalgic loyalty, but it was deeply depressing to log on, do your thing, and only see 1 or 2 active members had played in the past couple days. Eventually had to leave as it simply got me down too much to remember the good times. But it sure sucked!

    I'm sure this kind of thing happened everywhere and it's actually the leadership of such guilds that get into that kind of situation that can make the guild rise up stronger or let it crumble. Had the same thing happening right around the beginning. Lots of people leaving before we even really started progressing on Mythic NH which left us in a position to not be able to recruit anyone rlly decent until we got some bosses down. Evantually we perservered and found the right guys to get back on track with some delay. I know the feeling you had, everything crumbling down beside you, people you thought you could rely on just vanishing and seemingly everything you do is for nothing. Because you think it'll just happen again, someone we need will leave anyway. So what's the point? But you took it upon you to save a good guild and succeeded and for that you have gained a great feeling of accomplishment and even more respect from the raiding community. More so from officers all around the world that faced/facing the same problem. It is possible to get out of the cycle of feeling defeated. And Asmongold is one of the many that did. Kudos to you.

      I dont see how you can wipe 100x on a boss that YOU KNOW what hes going to do and in what order. That just seems crazy to me. Sounds like theres a lot of people who may be inbred and/or retarded. PvE isnt rocket science. It's more like Algebra.

    • @danr554
      @danr554 7 лет назад +12

      1. no pve is not like algebra, you clearly have no higher mathmatical knowledge at all since algerbra is representing numbers as letters to find an unknown value etc, whereas raiding you already know the endpoint and you are finding out how to get there.
      raiding is difficult because its hard to keep 15+ people co ordinated
      2. PVE is supposed to be fucking hard, go find out how many times it took guilds like method and serenity to kill mythic Gul'Dand and see how long it took them to clear mythic trial of valor
      you are cleary either frustrated about something else, a pvp twat that thinks its better than pvp or just someone that has no mathematical grasp whatsoever

    • @Passypass4

      Could you imagine if this was vanilla and you had to coordinate 40 players. Regardless of the numbers though you still have to get everyone to work together.

    • @booradley6832
      @booradley6832 4 года назад

      thats why especially vanilla raids were stupidly easy as far as tuning vs today's stuff, because between the coordination effort with no quality means of doing so, lack of highspeed/quality internet connections, PC limitations and everything else there were some serious issues one would have to contend with in order to round up even 15 players on the same page.
      You can even see somewhat of a tech jump by AQ because even watching old fraps footage it goes from like 180p 5frames per second in onyxia's lair to 480p 25fps by aq40. So the raids werent just easy because everyone was new, there were many considerations that made it an issue.

    We have had in our guild many problems occuring around the time we killed krosus and started progressing aluriel. Raiding is trash now. 8+ versions of the same item, people arguing over "BiS" upgrades, PUG groups being super elitist on who they invite then rage quitting when one thing goes wrong, raid leaders in guild thinking that flasks and potions actually make a massive difference to the raid. The game is shit now compared to Vanilla/TBC. Everything is a grind and there's even less of an end goal than there ever has been.

Like we are trying to be strict about players turning up with lesser gems/enchants, turning up late, or being late after the raid break (etc), we tell them not to do it again and often get ignored. Based on a semi-hardcore progress guild, I love you videos and often watch your guild management ones....would be good to hear your thoughts on how best to deal with them.

      It's not the raid, it's the systems surrounding the raid i.e. legendaries, AP etc. Nighthold itself was tuned fine. If you found it too hard then maybe git gud? • @azelasmoment
      @azelasmoment 7 лет назад +4

      A lot of raids in early WoW had this effect. Hell, nearly every raid in Vanilla, BC, and Wrath had this effect. It wasn't the raid itself, it was the absurd grind. Grinding for months for your BiS legos, getting all 54 traits on your weapon. That's what burned people out. You can only run Maw in M+ so many times before it starts to wear you down. That grind, on top of the bosses being pretty overtuned (Star Augur was openly admitted to being tuned for 54 traits) is the reason there was burnout. The raid itself was not that bad. The absolutely absurd grind was.

NH has been a struggle both mentally and mechanically. a couple of bosses pushed our guild almost to breaking point at times but thankfully i have been blessed with a team of great people who have shown time and again they are willing to push against the struggle and keep going. now having gotten Gul'dan down I am looking forward to ToS but i really hope that blizzard takes note here and not repeat the mistakes of NH. I hope they see the personal demand that the design of the raid has required of their player base. Thank you for sharing your story its good to know that it wasnt just us.... also. fuck Botanist :D

I believe 3 of our officers we're done with being officers and having responsibility and with being stuck on bloodboil for too long they thought that disbanding our guild would be the best thing.
    They just wanted the guild bank and transferred servers, it was cool. Ended up transferring servers to QT and ended up clearing BT and then had a good time in sunwell.

I'm on second shift right now so 99% of such raiding guilds have times that I would be at work (in the US anyway). I was part of one back in Wrath and Cata and loved it. Just before the first big patch into cata our guild leader and his wife (two of our best raiders) started having marriage problems and the guild basically disbanded. I graduated college just a month or two later and my schedule hasn't allowed such raiding since.

      your metro skinny denim makes every homogenized dillrod feel safely 'stylish' at whatever 'downtown' bar you pretend you didn't gentrify.

    Was a GM for over 5 years and being a guild leader is extremely rewarding but at the same time extremely frustrating. At the peak of the guild it was amazing, but after we fell apart on EN I realized it just not anything I really can committee too anymore, specially getting officers that help with the guild was extremely hard. People want the power without the responsibility.

    I feel ya man, been the GM for 7-8 years. It's a lot of stress, work, and balancing having fun while also trying to enjoy the game. Good job, keep up the good work. The work is appreciated even if you don't get the pat on the back at the end of the night.

    As a raid leader of a casual guild progressing through mythic I can't imagine trying to hold together a hard core raid group. I have an awesome officer core to back my decisions and every week we clear another boss. Hopefully we will clear gul'dan within the next 2 weeks but if we don't it won't stress the guild. The big perk of being a casual raid group is it's "mostly" stress free and we are looking forward to Tomb whether we clear mythic gul'dan or not. Grats on the kill and good job standing your ground and fighting to keep your guild in the game. I know it's "just a game" but the sense of accomplishment will never be diminished in your eyes and I'm sure there is no better feeling.

    I am in a relatively decent guild on a dead server. The people are mostly older and have no real interest in progressing into mythic past the casual level. I am in no position to find a home in any guild at the level I want to be at- nor should those on that level even consider me at the moment. So, I am forced to face the reality of forming my own guild / raid group, and working our way upto that mythic guldan kill. I have one other person with me that is all in, but even so, starting and running a successful guild is a monumental undertaking. I sometimes wonder if we're up to it, or even if thats what I myself want. All I know is that I want to be on the ever-bloody edge of whatever content blizz has to throw at me. You've always inspired me, and probably thousands of others to always do their best, and to exceed their own perceived limitations. To Never Stop Going Big Dick.
    And so, with all that shit out of the way, with unwavering determination and unyielding resolve, is coming to KT. See you on the leaderboards, my friend.

    Thanks for sharing your story. My guild has gone through a similar thing and we just started guldan progression this past Wednesday.

    had a similar problem in WoD, ended up having 300+ wipes at blackhand. I had alot of respect from the "good" players in my guild so they stayed throughout, the hard part was the good was heavily outnumbered by the bad so once it came time to replace and tell people they are not what we are looking for the arguments happen, they call us out in .2 etc. In the Hellfire Citadel with new recruits we managed a top 10 server finish on the lower pop server we where on, compared to the 40+ place 300wipes we had the tier before.

    Know them feels i've had to step up to raid lead from moocher before and i've watched a top class guild fall apart because the glue that kept the spergs in line left and all we had left as toxic failures.
    Good on you for pushing on, hopefully you build a stronger group and the children who are having issues leave or get over it lol.
