How to fix a Goodman Furnace Pressure Sensor Switch - 3 Blinking Lights on Furnace
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 2 окт 2024
- If your furnace is not working, the light is blinking three times, or you know your pressure sensor switch is causing a furnace failure let us show you a simple way to get your furnace working again temporarily and how to get it working permanently. A Goodman model is shown in our video but this temporary workaround will work for many furnace types.
You can get the pressure sensor switch I shown in this video here:
amzn.to/2EATXfa
Check your model number after you click the link to make sure it works. The part number of the original pressure sensor switch is on the part.
This trick has gotten us through many nights until we got our pressure sensor switch permanently replaced. This is not a long term fix, you should buy a new one and replace it. This is an extremely easy part to replace.

I had moisture in the line. Blew it out and it worked. Thank You
BTW Bing CoPilot led me to your video THE answer.
Excellent! Glad after so many years the solution is still relevant. Thanks for commenting!!
Most of the time if your pressure switch is faulty there's a reason why. Almost always it is not the pressure switch that is the problem. There's a reason why the pressure switch is giving you three flashes on your control board. You have some sort of flu restriction, the entrance to the rubber hose is restricted, the exit to the rubber hose entering into the pressure switch is restricted, and or the hose itself has a hole in it. I would check all these things before you actually replace a pressure switch.
Ok
Hey man thanks !!!! I did it and now my furnace is working!!! 😎👌🏽👏🏽👏🏽🔥
Awesome!! Glad to hear it helped! 👍🏼
Good video brother. I love the screaming kids in the background comment. I feel your pain. Nice job!
Thanks for the comment! Unfortunately nothing gets done in our house without screaming. :) Enjoy it while they are young!
Thanks - For some who have 3 blinking lights after you replace the switch, you could possibly have a bad inducer fan. I replaced my fan two months ago (bad bearings) and now the switch went. I guess it's planned obsolescence in that everything wears out about the same time. Great video.
Correct and good advice! Check your inducer fan first, if it doesn't spin at all, it's nothing about the switch.
@@davidding8538 I had the three blinking lights again intermittently last Fall when I started my furnace. The furnace would run, shut off the main blower and close the gas valve. The inducer fan never stopped running and would restart the gas and main blower. It did heat the house, but just seemed wrong. I got help with it this time. About $400 later and a new main board and the furnace now has worked fine all Winter. Your message reminded me it's time to change the filter.
@@daniellarson3068 Good info! Thanks Daniel! I just fixed mine with a new inducer :) Hope I don't get into another trouble soon.
This comments is important. My fan was turning, I could suck and push air through the pressure switch tube and it was not worn. I stuck a paper clip in the fan inducer port and switch port and then the furnace lit up. I wish I would have done one before the other to know which was clogged. I think it was the fan though. It had a little resistance.
@@stevewelch9241 Good job - This problem is apparently quite common. I've had a similar problem with three furnaces, my old house, my present house and my mom's house. Oddly enough, I talked to an HVAC guy I bumped into on the bike trail a few weeks back. He said he's had to fix a lot of them with this issue. I have my fingers crossed that my old furnace will make it through this year.
Brother you just saved my ass from getting fired. I was looking for videos about this issue and they tell you how to replace it but not how to fixed. Thank you so much you are a genius
Awesome! So glad to hear it and I’m glad it helped!
it can also be a loose connection on the plug at the circuit board. You can spread the male terminal on the board to create better contact. thats how i fixed mine
WOW! Thanks man.... I live in Canada, and while winter hasn't set in yet, but my furnace wasn't heating the house today. Saw this video and checked the pressure switch tubing and ports which were clear, then did the hose trick and could hear the valve opening and closing. Put it all back together and bam it worked. Will replace the pressure switch too when the part comes in. Thank you so much!
Excellent! This is an old video of mine but I’m glad it still holds up and is relevant. Glad it helped and hope your home stays warm!
Thanks! I went to the switch and gave it a thump. Furnace fired up!
Thanks for the video! However doing what you did was not my issue, but it helped me to find my issue! I am uploading a video that I just recorded now that my problem was, drains inside were not working and this small fan and the pressure piece you have were full over water and so were the lines, in my video i recorded myself fixing it, it might help someone else as i was having the 3 blinking light error and my heat would not come on!
thanks for making your video though as you finally helped lead me to where my problem was lol!
Where do you have your video?
RegniA here on my RUclips channel
Talk about stupid, made in Cost Rica pressure switch hooked to the vacuum caused be the inducer motor in the heat exchanger. With a vacuum when switched off, sucks in soot from the heat exchanger, landing on the contacts preventing good contact. While I had the ten year warranty, got tired of waking up to a cold house. So I purchased ROBERTSHAW Pressure Sensing Switch, .25-1.0 WC that has an external microswitch.
These can be adjusted to the same water column pressure as the OEM switch. Got tired of replacing these switches, would drive over to my dealer to get a new one, if he came to my home was 150 bucks! Ten years later still work.
Live in a country where most people, single passengers are driving huge SUV's and Pickups that suck gas like crazy and in a country that is brighter at night time than daytime with all these lights on, what a huge waste of energy!
So what do our idiots in congress do? Eliminated the pilot light claiming that is wasting energy, but more is used in electrical energy to ignite the gas. But the real down side of eliminating the pilot light is electrical losses are far more common, and with no electricity to your home, furance won't work and you will freeze to death.
Thanks for your video. Interestingly, in my case the switch itself wasn’t the problem. The fitting where the hose attaches to the blower assembly was clogged. I ended up using a sewing needle held by a pair of needle nose pliers to clear the clog.
Nicely done! This seems to be a real common thing with this unit.
This. I used a small piece of light gauge wire to clear the obstruction. Furnace is working again. Thanks!
I used an Allen wrench key lol
I used a small drill bit works great! thanks
@@htiekbrian what was in it?
The temporary fix unfortunately did not work on my unit even after sucking and blowing in the tube to hear the click.
Take a picture with your phone to remember what goes where!
Like You Said Its Not A Permanent Fix, You Just Put a Brandade. Don't Mess with Your Gas Appliances without Knowledge. Call The Professionals.
Replace the part like we did in the video, it’s a permanent fix.
My Goodman furnace is working and blowing air without any heat. Ecobee thermostat sent me a message saying that “the furnace has been calling heat for the past hours but my inside temperature dropped 3 degree” . could it be due to the pressure sensor switch as well? I just changed my air filter 1 month ago.
Any recommendation will help. Thank you.
Thanks for the excellent video.
I replaced the pressure sensor switch and I still have the 3 blinking lights.
Me too. Do you know what it was?
How do you know if pressure sensor switch is bad? I hear it clicking when I suck on it.
Good video. It worked like a champ. New one is on it's way (rush shipping). Meanwhile, I do have a gas log fireplace as backup.
Awesome! Glad to hear it! It’s gotten us through some cold mornings until we get the replacement part. Thanks for commenting!
newer two wires Pressure switch ! It doesn’t matter where wires goes ! On older 3 wires it does !
my furnace blink 2times,but I followed your instrution ,blow the pipe ,and put it back 。 it worked 。 I am going to buy a new parts just in case for the future 。 bow with respect 。million thanks
Thanks for the comment! Glad it helped.
Computer tech ... thumbs up! :)
Thanks. Been freezing all night!
Did you check why the pressure switch wasn't working properly ,maybe there was a blockage in the flue pipe Its also good to check the water colom pressure from the combustion blower
Hi what exactly is water column pressure, what's it's purpose and how do you test it.
My heat went out this weekend and I called a local company to repair the furnace. Turns out it was this switch but it seems to me $376.22 is a lot more than what I should have been charged, especially since this switch is available for $17-$20 at Walmart. Your thoughts?
I’m not a furnace tech and I do it myself because of those costs. Seems excessive for the part and he was probably only out for a hour or two.
It's like he watched you with your wife. In other words, he saw you coming
Thank you sir I did this and it worked!!! My guess is that it's tied in with AC also because it wouldn't turn on either but they both do now
Awesome! Glad it helped!
The pressure switch and gas value on my new Goodman were defective. There was a popping noise. Goodman says they don't cover labor to replace and you must live with their defective parts. No compromise, period.
The company I called wanted to charge me over $500 for this simple ass fix.
Nice video...trying to fix my mom's. Thanks a lot
my good man 80 percent heater flashes a number 2 when running it's been working all week no problem what could that be... I got a new pressure switch today same one I hope it clears code 2.. good video THANKS 👍
Any thought as to why the pressure switch goes it seems every year I am replacing it.
Condensation due to being a high efficiency furnace, or maybe debris is getting inside it. I just needed to clean out the hose because the end had become plugged.
Hi thanks for the video. Hope you can point me out on my problem. I switched from heating to A/C and my SSZ14 is not starting. The error code on my goodman furnace AVPTC is C1 - LOW STAGE COOL - LEGACY MODE ONLY. Do you have any idea how to resolve this issue. The unit was working great during winter but now switching to A/C and the heat pump is not starting anymore. Thanks Hugo
Hi! Thanks for the great video, Definitely getting a thumbs up. I have 4 blinking lights, will replacing the switch resolve my issue? And could you give us the link to the part from amazon. Thanks!
Sorry to hear about your problem! I haven't encountered that I my unit, but I think this is the right part:
amzn.to/2T9Dc0Y
but, the best thing to do is take it off and see what the part number is on the sensor. Mine looks like B13701-55 for the limit switch. In my experience with Amazon, if this isn't the right part, they are really good about taking it back. Thanks for reaching out!
Are Goodman have Two sensors only 3 years old and exhaust and intake ports holes but only have Exhaust running outside. I found water inside once I open it the guy whom installed it had to come back 3 weeks later after first install.
Thanks saved the day!!
That’s great to hear!
How do you know which is the bottom and top connector wire? I unhooked mine and couldn’t remember which was which when I put it back together and they are the same color?
Sir nice video is it necessary exactly the same part number .4-47 B137101-76 sir 0,80 instead 4-47thnk you
That will help for a day or two like you said but it all you have to do is go to RSD parts store and pick up a new swich it should be under 30 dallors.
Can't believe that was the problem, thanks man, saturday night and $400 + parts for an emergency tech to come out - I owe you a beer if you ever come up to Toronto Canada 😁👍 - gonna order the part online now + new hoses to be safe (we just had 30cm (10+ inches) of snow so you saved me $$$ and a cold night lol - THANKS for making this video man
I love hearing this but sorry you had the problem. Thanks for the comment and glad the video helped!
Thank you . saved me some money>
Awesome! Glad it helped!
Thank you for the video which is very clear and easy to understand. The temporary solution worked for me while waiting for the order of the pressure switch.
I appreciate the comment! I hope you get your switch quickly. Have a good one!
Thanks for video, however you did not show exactly how to temporary troubleshoot the pressure switch? I noticed you blew air into to text the open/close function on switch! But that does not show how it will temporary get furnace to work until your new switch arrives in the mail. Do you if running straight power to switch wires, will temporary run furnace heat to replacement is done?
Hi! The in and out of the air is what we did to re-engage the switch. Doing that and hooking it back up helped get us through waiting on the new switch and some cold mornings.
I replaced withe pressure switch with an identical part that I also got from Amazon for my Goodman furnace and the dam 3 blinking lights still on..... I was told by a heater guy last month who came that he replaced the hose and start right up and no more 3 blinking lights..... but 3 days later it stop working no more heat.... it fixed by itself until tonight....... any other suggestions? I read someone posting about replacing the fan...... good video....
I have not ever had to do that with ours but tracing the steps of what’s activated and what stops, I think you are on the right track. If the pressure sensor isn’t getting enough pressure to the tube to to the sensor to complete the circuit, the fan will stop blowing. If the fan is not blowing or creating enough pressure to initiate the sensor, i could see it being bad. Could there be any kind of obstruction or build up in the nipple that connects the hose from the unit? If you disconnect the hose from the unit and were to blow inside the hose to the pressure sensor to complete the circuit while the fan is blowing, does the unit run differently? It might sound unorthodox but that would simulate for sure getting pressure to the sensor to keep the unit running and moving to the next stage of heating. If that method doesn’t keep it running for a bit longer the problem might be the board.
I’m not an HVAC guy, but a computer guy so my knowledge is limited but those are the steps I would go through to diagnose a little more so I had a better idea of what could be wrong. I hope it helps and you get your heat back soon. Thanks for reaching out!
Good information. Thanks.
If GMH80 furnace has running inducer blower but igniter didn't lighted then check pressure switch. Blowing air in out may free up pressure switch contact. I have noticed after years of use some time hose cracks and leaks. Some time even air hose connection nipple on blower may get plugged by rust or dirt and moisture. So use thin wire and clean. Can I assume if igniter lights then inducer and pressure switch circuit fine?
I want to say you are right. I was told by previous service man that unless the pressure sensor completes it circuit, which is that click, the igniter will not light and your blower will stop blowing. I’ve noticed my hose has definitely worn, and gotten smaller over the years from taking it off and on.
So I was thinking I had the same issue as you but I noticed you blew into the new working on and it clicks. I took mine off the inducer nipple and blew into it and heard the clicking noises. I also took cleaned out the inside of the nipple to the best of my ability? I also reconnected the gray hose back to the inducer fan and disconnected it from the pressure sensor and blew into the inducer (POWER OFF) and didn't feel resistance. I reconnected everything again and still getting the three blinks. Any ideas?
Hi Bud! As weird as it sounds, sometimes I would have to blow into and suck the air out of it repeatedly to toggle the sensor. Then hook it back up to the inducer nipple. It's not perfect, but it's gotten us the heater working again. This part seems to be a big failure point for these units, so it may eventually just need replaced. Stay warm and I hope this helps!
Incredibly helpful video. I ordered a replacement pressure switch on Amazon for $12.99, popped it in in under 5 minutes, and we're back in business!
Which one did you get? When i look up the P/N, mine was $69.
Hey
My gas boiler shut down and red light on bottom blinking.do you know why?
thanks this is awesome. can you use just any pressure switch to replace it, or do you need to get a part that exactly replaces the part number... does it matter? really hard to find the one i need as this is an older amana (goodman) furnace. thanks!
I’m really not sure, but I would put your current part number in an Amazon search and use the closest one. If it’s not right, Amazon’s returns are pretty each.
I completely understand and I’m sure some of the other brand models may work, I would just be concerned that the pressure the switch would be expecting may vary from different models or the fitting sizes may differ. I hope this helps and you get get your issue fixed. Thanks for reaching out!
Thank you it helped me and my family very much it was 7 degrees in the house when we got back from vacation and I couldn’t get the furnace to work it works perfectly now I appreciate the help
Awesome! I’m so glad to hear it helped. Stay warm.
There is another trick ....check your flame sensor pull it out wipe it off with a dollar bill i originally though it was my pressure switch too
Now you time to fix whatever the kids broke....lol
Sir I changed the switch but Problem is not resolved so what should I do Still three time blinking light
Check where the hose is connected to motor. Use a paperclip and clear anything blocking. Then connect hose and leave other end disconnected. Run the system and you should feel suction on your finger on other end of hose.
What would happen if the wire connectors were switched and you’re not sure where to connect The wires? Anybody
Nothing. It doesn't matter if you switch them up.
Thanks this got my furnace going and I'll be ordering a new pressure sensor switch!
Awesome! I’m glad this helped! Ours has been going strong since we did this. 👍🏼
I steam cleaned my carpet and ended up with water in the pressure hose. Heat is good.
Be careful it dangerous get hurt
Thank you! So helpful!
Awesome! I’m so glad it helped!
How do I know I’m buying the correct part?
Thanks!
Thanks for the support!
Thanks for the video. Got my Goodman going again. Take Care
Hey thanks a lot for making this video really helped me out a lot.
Awesome to hear! I’m so glad it helped. I’ve used this trick many cold mornings.
You saved my ass!
I’m glad to hear it! This has saved us quite a few times at the coldest possible moments.
I have a Goodman furnace similar to this one where is the drain pan?
pf rate have to be the same? mine was -1.10 pf and trying to buy new one but it's really hard to fine the same one, wondering if the rate have to be the same.. please answer quick someone..
Hi William! I would not deviate from the units original specification. I would make sure it matches.
@@BrickBuildingKids thank you for the quick reply sir, but i think (-1.10) is obsolete now.. I'm trying to get -1.20 or -1.30.. do you think it would work in this case?
@@billxo 1.20 will work just fine
My furnace has the light on and the pilot is not working
Does the blower ever start?
I actually fixed my switch, here's how I did it (as long as the vacuum part is OK)
:
First remove the sensor as outlined. The actual switch (where the 2 wires plug into) can be removed, it's held in by 3 plastic tabs, 2 on the side and a small one at the top. Take a sharp knife and remove the tabs, you'll find that they peel right off. Once you have them off, take a pair of pliers and grab one of the terminals and pull the switch out of the sensor, it's held in by 2 tabs inside. Now you can see what the switch looks like, nothing complicated.....just a set of contacts and a spring. Get yourself a spray can of CRC 2-26 Electrical Grade cleaner/lubricate and clean and lube the switch. You can run a piece of paper between the contacts to clean them. Don't remove the CRC 2-26 cleaner/lubricate!!! Pop the switch back in the sensor and at this point you can test it using an ohm meter and vacuum hose, no vacuum to the switch there should be no continuity....vacuum applied should show continuity. Reinstall the sensor on the furnace and see how it is. Hopefully this will help you get up and running when you're stuck with no heat.
I didn't open mine up because could return them to my dealer for a new one, but did after I purchased the Robert Shaws with the soot free micro switches. I knew they would be loaded with soot, common sense that many engineers don't have would verify this. But just wanted to see the soot, Also have an electric burnishing tool to clean the contacts, but certainly not a long term cure. Not even a short term cure.
The logic looks for an open contact switch, then times the inducer motor for a closed contact. So you just cannot bypass the switch.
I have not checked mine system yet, but would like to know if this problem (Goodman Furnace Pressure Sensor Switch) can also be related to the smell of gas, given the furnace is not firing up...? Any help is greatly appreciated!!!!
If you smell gas, I might be concerned that there is a leak somewhere IF the furnace isn’t trying to start. The coils or the igniter might need cleaned off. I would have cases where the furnace would start, try to light and try to blow but not stay lit and you can get a residual smell of gas that is resolved by cleaning the coils and igniter. That’s my Non-HVAC feedback. If you keep getting a gas smell it might be best to get a professional out.
@@BrickBuildingKids Thanks for replying! I will check it and clean the coils and go from there. I really do appreciate your feedback.
@@BrickBuildingKids Update: Cleaned the flame sensor. So far so good! thanks! No gas smell, for now. Hoping we can get it through the bitter cold these coming days!
Awesome!! We are in Ohio so we are feeling the chill as well. Glad to hear it helped.

Thanks so much! Heaters working and replacement part ordered.
THANK YOU
Thanks!
Thank you saved me headache
Awesome! This got me out of some very cold mornings!
life saver
I get the three blinking lights and replaced the pressure switch and still have the same problem :(
When the furnace turns on, can you feel any air coming out the hose if it’s still hooked up to the furnace?
Bob, With The Power OFF (you don't want to mess up your inducer draft wheel when doing this) so you do not want it to be spinning. Pull the rubber hose off the nipple on the inducer assembly.Take a small Allen Wrench and use it to clean out the rust buildup down inside the nipple. Clean it out really good. Then reattach the rubber hose and you should be good to go now 👍
so replacing the pressure switch with a brand new one is temporary?
No, getting the old one to work again is temporary.
@@BrickBuildingKids you never told us how to get the old one to work. You skipped that part
In this video, there is part where we blow air into the tube and suck it out to toggle the switch. That’s how we get it to work temporarily
So if u blow and no clicking then what?!?!?????!!!!!
If you blow and suck on that tube and you don’t hear any clicking, it sounds like that sensor is malfunctioning or jammed.
I still get the 3 lights. And still not working
alexander Delcid it’s not perfect. Sounds like the actual sensor may be malfunctioning and just needs replaced. Usually air flow in and out of that will loosen up the flap inside the sensor.
Ty ppl have taken advantage of me until now
No problem! Did this work for you?
how did you know which one to get?
I searched the part number on the old one on amazon. If you have the same unit as we do, the part in my description should work. I don’t think the make of the part is that critical. There are a few similar ones.
You can run to Amazon?
Back when I made this, there was a few Amazon pick up locations around us. If you found this video, I hope your furnace is up and running. Unfortunately, this issue was common with this unit.
@@BrickBuildingKids I wish we had locations like that. I'm waiting on a pressure switch to arrive by mail. Hopefully that solves the problem. The light on my furnace is blinking in way that indicates that is the problem.
i saw no fixing i saw a part replacemant
Hi! There is surely a fix in here. The tube that you disconnect, we push air through and from the part to loosen the flap inside the sensor.
im not being a smart ass but i thought the tittle said how to fix a pressure switch but you did explained very well tho. i just had to do the same on my furnace i mean disconnected both wire and blew in the hose to the switch and it worked but maybe for a few days so im going to def order a new one .but sorry if i offended you it was not what i was trying to do . Hope you and the kids are warm sorry again
No worries at all! You for sure didn’t offend me. I just wanted to make sure you saw it. I have had a lot of people skip this video with similar comments in the past. This fix has gotten us through a lot of cold mornings but we’ve ended up replacing the part a few times. There is definitely something with this part that makes the condensation or something built up to make it faulty. Stay warm and thanks for the comments!
Do you have to relight anything where your down
For this furnace, no. It re lights automatically. You are talking about the pilot light right?
Yes

It's very frustrating trying to listen to you try to explain this while you're distracted. You'll have much better video quality if you, pause, gather your thoughts, and shoot it again. Just my 2 cents...
