Conan Doyle also believed in FAIRIES (as in the Tinkerbell type) and wrote extensively about it (he also believed in ghost pictures). And although exposure is not acceptable most of the time, in this case I think there was an important point that made it not only acceptable, but NECESSARY: their claims that what they did was "real" and that they were actually in contact with the "spirit world". That´s when they stopped being magicians and became con men - and deserved the exposure. Having said that, your channel is great, you´re a very charismatic young man and this newly created series is a fantastic idea. Keep up the great work. :)
Even from the start magicians tore straight into psychics. I've always been puzzled by Sir Arthur Conan Diyle, the author who encouraged logical answers. Houdini couldn't sway his fixation with the supernatural.
I don't think it was bad form to expose them, that would be like a modern magician exposing Cody and Satori of the Conjuring House, recent fraudulent mediums. You maybe could cover them and expose their methods? :)
In a way magicians played a role in critical thinking. But the fact that even after being revealed as a fraud they are still people going to see them is something really common ( cf Randy debubks, Houdini or Houdin, etc...). And if today magicians won't do that for other magicians, there ate still to this day magicians in zetetique contest or ones that debunk medium. For those interested, with english subtitles, I can recommended the video of a french mentalist Clement freze about the reason to doubt a medium on youtube (clement freze: Bruno , le ciel sur répondeur).
@@CavanBooth1 they’re all liars who deceive people and they ooze magic from their pours when they sweat. Smells delicious in a big room like at Blackpool haha!

Reminds me of when Derren Brown copied that psychics act, and when he did the Faith healing too.
Love this style of video. A story well told!
Awesome! I love the type of content that talks about the history of magic. I found it really interesting, would love to see more!
Anyone who says there didnt used to be drama hasnt seen the prestige
Isn't the prestige a work of fiction?
@@shylohmonster ye I was joking
Takes heavy inspiration from magicians around this time, though! Including the Davenport Brothers!
Yeah, I get it.
If the magicians of the past were human, we know there was drama. Because human nature.
I really enjoyed your review. I'm always happy to learn about the history of magic. Please continue the series!
Excellent Calvin. Fascinating story really enjoyed it. More please
Great video Cavan. I look forward to the rest of the series.
I would love a mini series about old magician drama, sounds like some beef right up my street 😅😅
Excellent story, more please.
Woww that's a very interesting and fascinating story! Thanks for sharing and would love to hear more stories !
Very true and your content is interesting
Y'know, if someone had done this to John Edward at the height of his popularity, I'd have been cheering for them.
Where did you get the small lit tube sign on your bookshelf? I love it!
A random gift shop in London a few years ago, sorry I can't remember the name

Nice one Cavan, really different and interesting. Of course we are all fakes right? I mean magic isn't actually real 🤣
Don't forget that rough business with the Angier and Borden family!
This is a very good true story 😂 madness of magic / magician back then….
Just watched your “indexed” mind reading book trick. You say any book can be chosen but it’s clearly not the case

PS: the fracture between doyle and houdini is a really interesting story that I can only advise you to check.
Masked "magician" Valentino is the MOST HATED ever! RIGHTFULLY so!
Um Um Um….(JUSTIN MILLER 😂)
Wow
The Amazing Randy debunked a couple charlatans in his time. Loved that man.
What a guy
Are these the ones that the authorities are gonna burn at the stake?
Bloody magicians.
What are they like
