I use so Many ,everything from a classic pass,DMB control, panoramic shift, steranko control ,silent jiggle pass (Derek dingle) bluff passes , each effect demands a different control to effectively optimize my performance, I love controls and still spend hours working on my classic pass and lateral palm Controls too ..I'm always looking for interesting controls
Thanks for all the great examples Cavan! The double lift is the best ! At my work party, I received a pack of cards as a Secret Santa gift-black with gold markings, a stunning deck. Someone asked if I knew any tricks, and I said, “Not really, but this is such an interesting deck.” I’d quickly placed the two jokers between the ace at the top of the pack and pointed out how the markings on the ace almost looked like the joker. I casually did a simple double lift with a joker and handed him the “ace”, then took the real Ace saying, “If you rub it gently, it actually becomes the joker” When he turned it over and saw the joker, he jumped back, shouting, “Oh my God, that’s amazing! That’s one of the best tricks I’ve ever seen!” He started raving to everyone around, saying he was watching closely for misdirection but didn’t see a thing. It was such a simple transposition, but his reaction was electric. That moment-his amazement and excitement-reminded me why I love magic ❤️ It was easily one of my favorite experiences as an amateur magician, and the best secret Santa gift ever!
My go to is the one Daniel Madison or JS magic are using most of the time: Dribbling the cards, let them call stop. Show card. Dribble the rest of the cards on top, getting a break, while doing so. Then just cut the card to where you want it to and go into a shuffle immediately. What makes this convincing for me is, that, appart from the dribble, cutting and shuffling look like what the muggles would do themselves;)
In person, I love Lee Asher's "Losing Control" but try only to use it once per performance. For the camera, the Spread Control or, even better, Marlo's Convincing Control. I'm not above palming the card after controlling it then having a participant shuffle until she's happy.
My favorite card control to use is actually the spread pass. It is annoying with the angles sometimes, but it’s pretty good, and I’ve found it’s amazing for visually controlling a card face up for a cool magic moment, with fairly little motion of the deck
The first one must has something missing... because people can tell that you put it on bottom just by looking without guessing. You put together both packets make a rapid move and then show a card as if it were in the middle? Something is lost in the middle.
My favourite is the Mahatma Control, because it looks to layman just like how they would overhand shuffle to lose the card. Then for a bonus … control to the top, palm it off and give them the deck to shuffle themselves, then replace it on the top …the ultimate control!
I’d like to see a video on taking care of your skin. As I’ve gotten older, my hands and skin have gotten drier (less sticky). Some sleights become much harder. If I want to do a cull I need to moisten the tips of my fingers first or I get no traction at all. I hate trying to nonchalantly lick my fingers. It’s gross. I used to wet some of my hair and then just run my fingers through that small area to get some moisture. But I don’t have hair anymore! I’ve tried some creams with varying results. Sometimes it makes my skin way too tacky and then Im worse off then before I applied it. It’s to the point where I try to think up ways to attach a small moist cloth/strip/wipe to somewhere on my person. The pant leg would be a good easily accessible area but it would stand out. On the inside of the hem of my suit jacket would be hidden but it’s going to look shady getting at it. The inside of the lapel would work as you grab it naturally to reach the other hand into a pocket but it will also leave a wet spot on your shirt. Anybody else have this problem? Or solution?
Hello! I think you should take care of your skin daily, trying with different creams. It should be a routine treatment to give results. A dermatologist can help giving suggestions, or you can find a lot of different creams to try on the market.
In my opinion the side steal is the holy grail. Doesn't have to be into full palm, you can just slip it to the top or bottom. It has all the advantages of a pass, but is easier and it moves only one card 👍
Here's one that I like: Place the selected card in the deck and create a small out-jog from the back, hold the deck cleanly for a sec, then do a double undercut. And a simple but very effective one: Just place the selected card on top of the deck and do a false shuffle.
The double lift is not an easy technic. I saw realy great magicians like Pit Hartling or Denis Behr fail with it sometimes. There are some great technics which perfectly done will work perfectly. But what is always perfect. And there are the right moments to do it, when using a simple technic. And it is hard to say what is better. That depends on the situation and the trick. But also the leading of attention works not always the same for all people...
I fully disagree. I find the shift the easiest of them all and use it always. I find the cull way more angle sensitive than the shift. I will never use a cull, except doing a clean up of a triumph cause no one can see from behind or the edge of the deck, furthermore you always have to tilt the entire spread a bit down to cover whats going on. I personally don't think a double lift is really a controll, cause you have to have a setup for that control, meaning you cannot completely random choose a card out of the deck, which you can by basically all the rest of the controlls. My holy grail is the squeeze shift, i can do it with up to 6 cards
Thank you to magiskill.com/ for sponsoring this video! Tell me your favourite card control in the comments 👇

I like the cut of your jib.

Look up the "Hofzinser spread cull", cleaner version of that, in my opinion, and not necessarily too angle sensitive.
Thank you for the collab, and beautiful video as well!
Thank you too!
dmb spread Control is THE GOAT, cover pass also very good, and just a break and then shuffle, also very good and much better then double undercut.
I really like the victoria control because its realy clean and its great for a ambitious card routine
Need more of this series immediately!

The drop switch is a really good one.
I use a lot of different card controls but one of my favorites is the cascade control
Victoria looks better
Congratulations on getting a sponsor, Cavan!
Thanks!

Shoulda made this video like a fighting game tier list lol... S tier,A,B etc... i think it'd be hilarious
Book tests sounds like a lot of fun.
Has to be done, methinks
Another great video!

I believe the first one is the spread control by Hofzinger.
I could be wrong
I use the blind square for just about every card effect.

Edit: yeah youre right its absolutely shite
Did you make an edit to agree with yourself? 😂
@jonathannelson7584 nope he said in the video that it was a bad control
