  • This a quick review on a super cheap 46mm 0.45x 2 in 1 wide-angle lens adapter I picked up from eBay for £9.98 for my Panasonic G7. (Seller has changed the price to £12.09 since the upload of this video).
This adapter will fit the Lumix 14-42mm kit lens, 25mm f1,7 prime lens and any other lens with 46mm thread diameter at the front.
Contents I received. White box, Black carry case, Macro Lens adapter, and wide-angle lens adapter.
Excellent for the price the only one major con that would be the glare that comes from the center of the lens when filming in sunlight. I have used this adapter indoors several times the glare only pops up when light directly hits the lens if the light does not hit the lens then there is no glare visible. Secondly, the adapter will give a blurred-out effect at the sides which in some cases could be a positive if you like the Bokeh effect:)
The macro lens worked great but would only be useful if you if need some macro shots or pictures.
I would not recommend this adapter for photography, I took this adapter outside to take pictures there is no sharpness on the sides of the images the main focus stays at the center of the subject. definitely not for landscape photography.
My Calculations could be off when trying to calculate the focal length with the adapter apologies for that.
These cheap adapters are available all over the internet and are a great inexpensive alternative to buy a wide-angle lens. Obviously do not expect great quality.
I will leave a link down below from the eBay seller I purchased it from if you are interested.
Please note links can sometimes change or the seller might remove the item.

Great video. You've got the best explanation online of that wide angle adapter that I've seen. I got mine a few years ago, so I learned all this the hard way. I would like to quibble just a little with your math, however. It's important to know that the converter reduces your focal length from 14mm to just under 8mm, not just a bit more than 6mm as you explained.
I think the REDUCTION is 0.45 so you need to subtract the 0.45 not multiply...so .45 X 14 = 6.3mm and that's the amount of the reduction. The lens is 14mm. So 14mm minus 6.3 = 7.7mm. It's still significant. The 14mm lens becomes just under 8mm instead of a little more than 6mm. I know this is picky on my part, but I think this difference in a lens width of just over 6mm and one of nearly 8mm is significant.

Thanks mr Johnson for clarifying the focal range i really appreciate it.
It can be more difficult to calculate the focal range with an adapter and taking into account which sensor it's being used on.
Your calculation is more accurate than what i have said i will pin this comment at the top so the viewer's know the exact focal range and thank you for watching the review and giving the feedback.
      All the best 🙏

How do you get the g7 to autofocus on your face so quickly? Did you use face tracking? My g85's autofocus is so slow.

      @LookGoodTech  4 года назад +2

No bro do not use face tracking or tracking at all it only works good with pictures but with video it is absolutely horrible on the g7. I Never use face tracking on the g7 as it does focus breathing every time the subjects moves it's useless in my opinion.
I usually set up my g7 on 49 area, custom multi and 1 area these are the only 3 that i switch between. Most of the time i use 1 area which i set in the centre and make the centre box as large it can go and even that can mess up sometimes. As for the menu settings i turn on both AFC and AFF and my AF/AE function dial is set to AFF/AFS the metering mode is centered and i usually record at 1080p 60fps.
And the best Auto focus is not to use any auto focus 🤣 and try learning how to master manual focus. As i mostly do vlog type video's it has been really challenging using the panasonic g7. I have recently upgraded to the Olympus om-d em1 mark 2 and will be auctioning off my G7 soon even though i really dont want to sell the G7 the colours, images and videi quality are superb.
Panasonic have the best camera's but as a vlogger i needed good auto focus. If it wasn't for the auto focus i would have never let go of the g7. Depending on what you shoot my advice keep the G85 its an excellent camera and try working around the problem's.
Please do let me know how you get on, try all 3 settings and find what works best for you. Also trying different lighting areas and remove any background item's that are causing the focus to hunt around.
This is my tech channel but i also have a RUclips fragrance channel where i have managed to get so far 171 subscribers and it's all vlogs done by myself on the G7. So it is possible to nail auto focus but indeed it's challenging.
Hope that helps take care bro. 👍

@@LookGoodTech wow didn't expect such a detailed write-up. Thanks man. You mentioned you recorded this in 1080p60? Maybe that's why in this video the autofocus was so responsive. If you shoot in 4k it is frustratingly slow. I agree that I should try learning to handle manual focus, but sometimes in situations where the camera needs to be placed in tight space/weird angle or put on a gimbal (I use the camera for short films), it is difficult to put my hand on the manual focus ring. There's the Panasonic Image app and I can manually adjust the focus there remotely but it is laggy and not smooth so...yeah.

Yes that's correct 4k is always manually focus for best results. Image is also a great way to get focus. All the best bro take care.
