Thank you for the video! I'm keeping those guys for two years. Don't get me wrong, they are very fun, but I'm worried about the other fish in my tank because puffers aren't the only one there. My puffers often chew on other fish fin's, could u recommend something?
Glad you like it! In that case, I highly suggest keeping them in an only species tank. But other fish that may work with them are otocinclus, kuhli loaches, & freshwater bumblebee gobies. Pea puffers are very cheeky. They nip for absolutely no reason sometimes! I notice that tetras, corydoras and such don't do very well with them. I too have taken mine out of the tank and placed them in a different tank. Hope this helps a little! :D
Hey there I was about to start a pea puffer tank. This video was great. I think a pea puffer tank would be a great little bit of content for my videos and this vid helped me research so I know how to care for them when I finally get one so thanks.

Thank you very much! I really appreciate it. 😊 Have you check out our updated notes videos on pea puffers? I highly recommend it. I will be doing an update care guide in the future. Pea puffers shoal or school and should always be kept in a group. 😊
HI Sabrina, I have new pea puffers which are very small (bought from a local shop in KL). I have always had success feeding bloodworm to pea puffers before, but these small ones show no interest in the blood worm, any tips on what to feed? I have run out of snails small enough to feed them
Hi! That's awesome. How do they look like? If they're very thin, they might have internal parasites. On the other hand, if they are well, besides bloodworms, you can feed them aphids, grindal worms, daphnia, blackworms, whiteworm or brine shrimps. Some do prefer different food than others though so that is something to take note of if your puffer is healthy. 😊
@@BeFishy Already ordered Daphnia and Brine Shrimp online, thanks for your advice and your channel is great for puffer related info. Figure 8 puffer is next :)
I have just set up a 100 litre planted tank for pea puffers only! They are so cute, I have a group of 11, and when they are mature I will take some of the males out. They have live blood worms and snails at the moment, I have frozen Cyclops but if they don't like it I will have to do a big water change right away because the cyclops are so small. It is my intention to breed some live daphnia and try to get them to establish in the tank long term as enrichment hunting
In my experience, my pea puffer didn't bother any of my kuhli loaches. If you're still worried, try to monitor him/her for a couple of days. I've had no problems introducing these 2 species together, especially with lots of plants and decor. :D
ahh man I really want to get a pea puffer but I go on vacations a lot and I can’t have an auto feeder for them. Great quality video and very cute fish!
I suggest getting at least a 5 gallon tank to keep 1 puffer fish. They're very intelligent and get bored easily. I find that decorations and hardscapes that can break their line of sight and let them explore are important. They're very curious! 😄
Hi! No, they don't eat detritus or planaria. As for tank size, pea puffers are a shoaling species and should be kept in a minimum group of 6 with a minimum tank size of 16 gallons. We're working on updating our care guides. Sorry for the confusion! 😄

Hi! Thank you so much! There will be an updated version on pea puffers coming, so stay tuned for that. That's a great idea. I might do that video as well. :)
Would a 5.5 gallon tank with silk plants be ok for 1 pea puffer? I dont have the correct light to grow plants. And I want to make sure that 5 gallons is more than the minimum.
Hi @Troy 120 . Pea puffers thrive in a shoal/school/group. Having an only species tank is highly recommended. A bigger tank for a school would be much suitable. 😄 We highly recommend getting a school of them as you can observe much better interactions in a big enough tank.
Do you think 1 would be happy in a 4 gallon cube? I would like to purchase a UNS 25C, but I'm not sure it's big enough. Most people say 3 gallons is enough for 1 puffer, but these fish are usually wild caught, so I would like to go a little bigger than that.
My honest opinion is to go with something bigger. I'm sure 1 will be fine in a 4 gallon but they get bored VERY easily. Having bigger space means more fun for them. 😄

@@BeFishy I have a question. Can Pea Puffer's live with mollies??? I have 30 gallon tank with two Amazon Sword plants, some shorter plants that I forgot the name of, 6 balloon mollies (2 of which or juveniles, big enough to be in the tanks so they won't get eaten). Do you know if they can live with Balloon Mollies???
@@BeFishy Thanks for telling me! I saw pea puffers at my local-ish pet store, and was tempted to buy them. I did more research myself and figured that they would be fairly nippy towards my fish. I decided on three dwarf Gouramis instead. Me and my dad kinda want to breed them and have little gourami babies. (I am 12 years old and maintain my whole tank.. O_O. I find it fairly easy, but there is more algae on the glass then other fish tanks)
Yes, my pea puffers are fed daily. Sometimes I do fast them when I am out of town. Pea puffers are very small compared to their larger cousins. Thus, should be fed daily. It also helps maintain peace in the shoal. 😊
Hi. I do not recommend keeping them without filters. They require a well oxygenated tank. The flow of the filter will break the surface agitation which will then allow oxygen to be dissolved into the tank. Not only will you get the benefit of clean water, you'll also get a happy puffer. With filters, do a waterchange once a week. 😄
dear i m new to handle pea puffer and my fishes doesn't eating any kind prepaid food...even blood worms...they just eating live blood worm/ snail/ mosquitos.... kindly guide easy food for them because it's Hard for me to feed them live item..
Hi! Unfortunately, most puffers do not take much prepared food readily. Eating is a good sign though. As they're eating snails, I highly recommend setting up a snail tank for breeding. I personally have a ramshorn snail tank running. Start with at least 10 snails in a tank. Saves a lot of cost and very accessible. :)
@@girishomjakhes6963 Hi! I set up mine by placing them in a small tank. Any container 5 and up gallons is a good start. Place an aerator or in my case, I use a filter. Fill up container with dechlorinated water and place snails in. A good number to start is 10 ramshorn snails. More is better. Do not feed them to your puffers yet until a colony has started. I suggest getting extras in the mean time they populate. And that's it! For feeding, you can feed them algae wafers, green vegetables, snello, and for calcium source, cuttlefish bone or cleaned baked egg shells.
