you have zo put some more pea puffers because he is a groupfish i think like 4 more
but a really nice aquarium
I love pea puffers, keep a group of them. Should get a couple more for a small group so they are less shy and happier. Shoaling species, solitary tank is not healthy for them
Hey, volg je al een poosje en ik ben echt super enthousiast dat je nu voor een pea puffer gaat! Twijfel er zelf ook over maar vind het nogal spannend i.c.m. andere vissen/garnalen. Dus benieuwd naar de updates! Keep it up 💪
a pita to feed , thats why , since you are on bloodworm , there are another species , fresh water pipefish
So impressive how you can make a nano scape look like a 4ft tank using small but detailed plants. Very unique
I've kept pea puffers before, they're a pain in the arse to feed and to keep with anything but oh my god they are such personable little fish. They're as close to a pet as you can get in the water and also the only fish I have ever named.
With that said, they are social and prefer to be in groups, but I think you'd need a larger tank to have more. Perhaps two females would be okay with him but I wouldn't add more males (sex them by seeing the yellow on their belly).
Last comment, good luck with the shrimp, I'll be fascinated to see how he treats them as he gains size and confidence
Light screen for sure. It helps that “tunnel” through the tall grass look like it has more depth.
Pea puffers live in large shoals in the wild! When doing my research before buying them, I also saw a lot of articles online saying they can be territorial and to keep them alone. Such conflicting information online! But if you buy them as a group when they are young they will generally get along vs getting new ones to add to the tank later on - this is when they will be territorial. I bought 3 for my 30 litre tank. Unfortunately one swam into a tiny hole in my filter and died within 24 hours 🙁 after patching up the hole so there would be no further casualties, my other two lived happily together until a month or so ago one of them got sick and died. The other one is still going strong but I think he gets bored on his own so trying to figure out some puzzles or games for him. He loves live snails and frozen bloodworms
They’re a social schooling fish so getting a few more is a great idea :)
I wouldn’t leave those shrimp in long, I had a very similar tank and the pea puffer ended up eating all the shrimp after about a month
Beautifully done as always MJ.
That is such an awesome scape dude! You just keep on gettin better and better.
Stunning set up dude, lovely to see some nice crypts and juncus getting some show time
HUGE THANK YOU for making this video with the puffer!!!!!!! I have been thinking of getting one for sometime now and I wanted to the live plants as well. One thing I didn’t think I wanted or would is the other creatures you added to the tank……. I’m really going to have to check into that.
I'm loving your more frequent uploads 👏
This video has pretty much cemented me getting some in the new year !
I have 5 pea puffers in a tank, but its bigger… it can work, depends on the character… my ones take frozen food and everything on living food but they love little snails
Thanks MJ for this video on aquascaping and on the Dwarf PeaPuffer. Great design and Plant layout. I love the look of the tall Hair Grass that I will add to this 55G Community Tank that I am getting ready to set up.
Kudos.
I love this, your aquascapes are allways so inspiring!!
Glad you like them!
Mark, you are the best... wish you good luck and waiting the further videos... thx
I’m not convinced that he will eat the shrimp, they are to fast for him, but I would put in some pest snails so he has a constant food supply and add at least 5 more, they are not used to live on their own and keep on scraping, love your movies
Beautiful scape and I just love the pea puffer!
I love ❤️ all of your nano Aquarium bro, they're all amazing 👏
Happy to see this fish in this type of setup😍..this fish are commonly seen in our area ..i remember in my childhood me and my friends catch this fish from our local rivers 😊
Saw these puffers at local fish store yesterday when I was shopping for some amano shrimps. I might start a new tank just for them. Awesome looking little fish :) Great video as always! Keep it up!
Yes! I was hoping you would do a pea puffer tank!
As always, great setup. I will echo what others said. He will go after the shrimp when he is hungry. Right now they are the same size but when the shrimp have babies he will eat them as soon as he see them. Keep up the posting.
What a great tank design. When I read the headline, I had to see the vid. Pea puffers are incrediable fish with some personality. Your video really got me inspired to get back into fish keeping, and im getting pea puffers again for sure. :)
Im really praying for the shrimp too XD
Definitely ask about keeping one or two more with this cute little guy! And I say light screen YES - the contrast between the greens and the blueish background pops!
I really like when you explain why you do things. Like in this video the cutting of driftwood, why you put crypt legroi next to parva etc.
my concerns are for the combo pea puffer and neocaridinas. slowly but surely you are going to see neocaridinas desappear from the tank
My puffers went straight for the nerites - had to remove them from the tank - but otto's and shrimps have been fine, the suck down bloodworms like spaghetti!
They'll kill everything
I have mine with a ton of breeding neos. I’m sure he picks off some fry. But I try to keep him well fed with his bladder snails. When I’ve gotten low & he’s gotten hungry, I have seen him stalk the younger shrimp but they’re usually too fast for him 😅
I had them together with neocaridina s for months, never had one get eaten
Love the content great work 👏 👌. Personally I prefer it with no light screen the added background shadow helps give extra depth
Definitely a lightscreen ! Beautiful tank and fish!
tank is stunning! i may or may not be jealous
That little guy is awesome! The tank is great also!
Love the scape!
I’d say light screen yes, looks great! (maybe not worth the high price tag but does look better than a standard vinyl background)
Get more! It depends on each fish/group attitude. But mine are fine with 5 together. I do fear for your shrimp when the puffers mature...
Really really like this aquarium! Probably gonna make something like this soon too!
They are social little dudes, might want to have a couple more instead of just one or two.
If by "social" you mean they want to rip each other's heads off. Then you'd be correct😄
true
You can have them on their own, but to have atleast 6 you'll need a bigger tank
Everyone else says keep only 1 … otherwise they fight ?
@@Columbian.sand.blasted.nostrili have 3 in a ten gallon. it’s just you have to heavily plant and give lots of enrichment for them to explore also 1 male 2 females is what is recommended but mine are all girls and haven’t had issues ever besides food aggression
Just got back into fishkeeping after a 30 year gap, you do some really beautiful work. Subscribed, looking forward to more...
Awesome! Thank you!
I'm looking forward to the puffer updates. I focus on shrimp but I do have a 36 gallon planted tank that would be great for a couple pea puffers if they don't destroy all your shrimp.
I have the same tank with a group of 4. 2 males and 2 females. All happy!
Those Crypt Parvas are massive. I got a few cups from an American grower and they were probably three times smaller than the ones you received. Also, yes on light screen.
As always, fabulous aquascape.
Please keep us posted on whether or not he eats the shrimp.
Tank looks awesome. I like the look with the lights screen personally. I would definitely get more, I had 6 pea puffers in a 5 gallon no problem. No fin nipping or anything. Great fish!
wow that’s amazing, i was misguided by information and i have had a single female pea puffer for about a month now, do u think i should add another 2 or go for a full shoal of adding five more?? i’m anxious to get them because i didn’t introduce them at the same time??
I have a pea puffer & he LOVES bladder & small ramshorn snails. He lives with a ton of breeding neocaradinas, prob eats his fair share of fry lol. Also a group of harlequin Rasboras & ember tetras. Everyone gets along great. I have a decently planted 20gal.
has he ever gone after any of your bigger shrimp?
Thank you for sharing that the Dwarf PeaPuffer will eat those Bladder Snails and Ramshorn Snail that snuck along with some Hornwort that I had bought at a LPS/LFS.
I have been saving the Snails instead of killing them. I just couldn't kill them.
Beautiful work.
This scape was amazing
Another great looking tank. Working for No Light screen
The plant choice for this tank is fantastic! Almost want to copy the entire setup! Pea puffers and dario dario are my two most wanted micro fishes! Cool to see you raising one of your own!
Add to this, pygmy sunfish, and we have the same fav fish!
@@katalinacastanares4602 looked that one up and they are definitely a gem to be seen!
Light screen definitely 😎
Light screen is very neat, might even promote plant growth. I'd put a light screen on a tank in my living room so it'd be more appealing, and easier too see everything.
Great looking 45p, MJ! Definitely will have issues with those shrimp soon enough. Very plump healthy looking puffer. I bet he's predating small shrimp at night and full come morning. Light screen on for sure!
Light screen for sure!
the look on the pea puffer's face at the end was of pure appreciation. superb! what a beautiful tank, well presented!
as always great vid brother man. I dont have a FW aquarium but I do enjoy your vids. I say light screen.
Pea puffers are hard to feed some won’t eat anything that’s not live and some will only eat black worms or snails. I’d try some frozen bloodworms. They are pretty social and I wouldn’t wait too too long to add another or they might not tolerate more puffers. Also they will most likely eat all your non adult shrimp and maybe even the adults just depends. I ironically this weekend finally caved into my girlfriends demands and picked up 8 of these guys at a swap meet then to seen your video after getting them home is an odd coincidence. They’re still in quarantine and haven’t moved into their tank yet but mine seem to take to frozen blood worms fine but they definitely like live snails lol.
Beautiful scape
Awesome Hardscape Dude 🤙🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻
Very handsome aquascape. Cheers
Years ago I had a brackish Puffer, I fed him live brine shrimp.
It's easy to underestimate their aggression cuz they're so cute.
The quintessence of awesomeness. Congratulations. A big plus for the dwarf puffer fish i loved. In another tank I made a snail farm where they can reproduce. I have one video of a tiny pufferfish on my channel.
have a pea puffer. very social. in the beginning it didnt wanna eat anything. but now it loves bloodworms and wont eat anything else pretty much. My pea puffer got a LOT more social after a while. not sure if because i introduced a buddy for it. In your aquarium you could definitely have two puffers due to the size and plant cover.
Like your sound effect 😉 your puffer is like our cat..finicky No light screen
Have a good weekend.
Hey man. Just a tip. Since I have sparkling gouramis and they really prefer live food. What I do is blend up a couple shrimps from the supermarket with tiny bit of water. Then I freeze that in a little plastic condiment cup with a lid. Every time I need to feed I just use a small sculpting craft tool to scrape some frozen shrimp and just stir it into the water surface. My gouramis love it.
wow!! please do an update on this tank? it’s amazing
With what I’ve read about pea puffers, they are more shoaling & I’ve seen an awesome little footage of a big group of them in the wild. Getting more is better & I guess the concept is like overstocking with cichlids & betta sororities to distribute any aggression & everyone distracting each other. & with a lot of areas that break line of sight. For a 10gal, I’ve read it would be good for 1 male & 2 females if you can sex them correctly, which is super hard. Mine is definitely a male when I saw his little “wrinkle lines” behind his eyes. Otherwise if they have a stripe down the tail, it’s a male....spots are female. But it’s so hard to tell at the stores when they’re young. Good luck!! I love them so much! & this another beautiful tank!
Tank looks fantastic. I wanted to buy pea puffers yesterday but they told me they would definitely eat my shrimp
Lightscreen! I love this set up pea puffers are my number one on my wishlist but in Australia they are expensive almost 200 dollars per fish! Hope you give more updates on him 😉
Have you checked gumtree? They arr about $120, not sure on the quality thoguh. No idea why they are so expensive here!
Puffers are sooooo cool
Have you kept them, Mark? I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on Puffers with shrimp.
I really love the scape. ❤ Into such a size of aquarium I would not recommend more puffers. I also think that once the puffer will be fully grown, it will start to kill and eat even your adult Neocaridina shrimps. Still I think for pea puffers I prefer bigger aquariums and bigger group - I have currently 8 in 120 l.
Puffer my fav❤️
I had this problem aswell.
Mine has some attitude, like a diva.
He only eats when i keep the bloodworms between the pincet in flow.
Everything that hits the substrates is for the amano shrimp:D
Nice puffer fish 👍🏻
Light screen on 👌
Love the tank Brother. My pea puffer acted as a death angle to my shrimps, Let's hope for the best...
Hi MJ! I'm watching your videos for some time now. They are really great. Congratulations and keep it up. I really like this your aquascape. I've kept pea puffers once. I bought three and put them in 35 liter tank. They were very young when bought. Then it turned out that I have two males and one female. Dominant male was quite aggressive and was chasing both other male and female.
Eventually smaller male jumped out and aggression of dominant male focused on female, so I decided to keep them separately in different tanks. Some time later I tried again to put them together in larger tank (around 50 litres), but aggression repeated. In the end male died (I don't know why) and female lived alone around 1.5 years until she jumped out. She did not seem very happy alone. I think now that the best setup for pea puffers is at least 6-7 so that aggression can split among them all. I will try it once again some day. Good luck with your puffer!
Thanks for sharing your experiences!
I really like your tank I can't ever afford to have something that nice but I do have a 55 gallon and I have 15 pea puffers and 4 catfish I feed them once a day Frozen bloodworms they know when his time to eat they get very happy when I get up to the tank and they do sometimes Chase each other around but they're just being puffers I'm hoping one day to have a tank as beautiful as yours thank you for showing me your wonderful aquarium and keep in mind the puffer they are hunters they will eat your small shrimp I learned that lesson and they also like to eat ramhorn snails.
You need to keep at least 5 in a tank. They're great lil fish and have such great personalities.
Met de witte achtergrond zou ik doen, brengt meer licht en leven in het aquarium. Wat een tof youtube kanaal heb je!!!
Underwater hummingbird. They are lovely and inquisitive little creatures.
Aww they are cute I love how they swim or hover? 😊
Lovely scape too ❤
I like the background with the light
Ik hoop dat hij je garnalen met rust laat. Ik heb er ervaring mee dat ze mijn garnalen opvraten. Ze zijn wel fantastisch.
Screen great
Light screen😄😄
When you ended up with one pea puffer instead of two, I cried for 2 hours straight. 😭😭
On that tank I think a black background might end up looking better.
Does the puffer not mess with any of the shrimp? I thought they would hunt the neos. Maybe just the babies.
Beautiful tank. ⭐️
Get a male (line in underbelly) and female in the tank. Then start doing water changes every week with rainwater. These fish will breed in the tank. I harvest rainwater from my roof and use that for water changes. My CPDs, Pea Puffers and Chilli Rasboras are breeding.
Do you have them all together? I have a 10 gal with 7 CPD several Green Jade and I want to add 1 Pea Puffer, its all planted and nice. Any thougths?
Juncus repens are a great plants but not what i thought at the beginning.
The first time i used it was during the lock-down.
We sold me this plant like a "hair grass" like hellentium etc etc (and easy to find at this hard times).
But, this plant don't stay little and quickly grow high and divided easily.
It's a great plant for background and one great thing are for the fish reproduction.
All the galaxy who are born in my aquarium come from a part of one of my tank with juncus.
Great for eggs, great for hiding, great to finding food at the beginning.
Keep this plant at 15-20 cm and one day, perhaps you will see some little fish just up of the juncus parts.
I don't regret this plant (even if i need to remake all this tank once i realize my mistake).
Oh oh !
Mini tétradon!
be careful with your shrimps.
If your tetradon (you could put 3 in this tank easy) are well feed, ok
BUT they are big bully and could eat your shrimps like that !
The best food for this little guys are SNAILS !
(and that's fun to watch them suck the snails from their shells).
With a light like that (twinstar), you could take the backpanel out.
If the videos need it, put it back
Hi Mark, is there a follow up video for the experiment with the different soils and substrates? Keep up the good work. Thank you. 🐟🐚🦐🌿🌱
Not yet! I think I will do an update in 1 or 2 weeks!
Awesome Mark! Thank you so much. Your research and is much appreciated. 🙏👍💯😊
Amazing scape, pea puffer main food is snails, I have one with other fish like green neon, 3 dario myanmar and plenty pest snails, which they start to be invisible. I'm worried about my narite snails, pea puffer trying to eat them, but at the moment is too small.
Gracias!
I have recently decided that I will be using my 55l dennerle for a pea puffer tank.
I have only just started to research them and for my size it recommends 3 - 6 depending on which arrival or paper it read but I think 3 if a good number but when I saw how small your puffer looked it your 36+l tank it made me think I probably could get away with more however I wouldn't want to push this tank to the brink I want them to be healthy, happy and I definitely don't want stress for them and whatever tank mates i decide on.
Did you emd up purchasing more PP's MJ, let me know please and also what your personal experience was like keeping them?
Nikki ☺️
Hi MJ. Great looking tank. I'm new to aqua scaping and have my 1st every 60 litre tank which I'm working on just now. I'm so leaning towards getting Pea puffers when my tank is ready and cycled. Perhaps 2 (hopefully will end up being a male and female due to their male-on-male aggressive nature) I would like other fish also and so wish you had mentioned what other livestock, other than your plants, you had in this tank 😞as I don't want to overstock and aiming to have a nice peaceful community. Great video though. Well done.
Hey! That's awesome! Good luck with your first aquascape! Livestock in this tank is 3 amano shrimp, 4 otocinclus and a lot of neocaridina shrimp. As this is also my first time keeping pea puffers I'm not exactly sure what other fish would be best suited.
@17:55 there’s a little baby shrimp In the filter pipe.
With light screen ;)
I had peapuffer before..but they love hunting shrimplet ..
Those shrimps will become dinner when the puffer gets bigger
100% light screen
Hey, its like everybody has algae issues with dwarf puffers... how is your Aquarium doing? Ty for ur always great content
He will likely eat those shrimp and any snails. They are super cute though and I really like the scape. Maybe he will be a nice pea puffer.
Bizarrely I found this video after buying exactly the same tank and light in order to do a scape for pea puffers!
