  • What Do Pea Puffers Eat? Pea puffers tend to be picky eaters and for that reason I don't recommend them for beginner aquarium hobbyists. That being said if you want to keep them and are a more experienced, there are some things you need to know about feeding Pea Puffers. In this video I tell you all about what pea puffers eat, where to get the food and the best way I have found to feed them.

Thank you, the worm feeder is exactly what I need, my puffers have been ignoring the blood worms as soon as they touch the bottom of my tank

All I know is. I’ve had 5 pea puffers in a 40 gallon breeder planted tank with lots Cory’s and neon tetras for the last 3/12 years. I never feed them anything they just eat all snails in the tank. The snail shell graveyard is amazing in this tank.

I have a 40 gallon breeder too that I originally planned for maybe pea puffers or a temporary goldfish tank but I've decided to try to keep a schooling fish first.

So they don't go after baby fish? I was wondering if I could put one in my guppy breeding tank.

What kind of snails do you have? I have ramshorns.

I also wanted to mention that to reduce aggression among the puffers, add more plants to disrupt their line of vision. I have four in a heavily planted Bowl. They play nice.

Use to have one of those feeders. I would put Live Tubiflex worms in it. The worms would wiggle out of the holes on their own and then become a snack for the fish. Plus since they were alive. They could stay in the feeder longer.

I just put 3 in my 40g community a few days ago. They're fun to watch but im thinking of trying live food for them. Ive seen them nibble at frozen brine and bloodworms, ill try the feeder first!

I like your videos! I have a pea puffer in with my male guppies in a 5.5 gallon tank. The reason all is well is 1) the tank is FULL of live plants for lots of coverage 2) there are a LOT of ramshorn snails. 'Puffy' single-finnedly manages the WHOLE colony of snails by himself. He eats the snail-eggs AND the baby snails. He leaves the adult snails alone. As the adult snails eventually die off from old age, I add more snails from my other tanks. Puffy works everyday checking the eggs. He does NOT bother the guppies. Occasionally the boy guppies try to get amorous with him and he just swims away, lol. It is one of the great joys of my life to watch this 3/4 inch fish manage this snail colony. It is very important to add more snails when the old ones die naturally of old age, after laying lots of eggs in their life-time. 2 years now, this has been going on. LOTS of plants encourage the snails laying their eggs, and give Puffy lots to keep 'interested' in. He carefully SCANS every square inch of the tank for his dinners. AMAZING little fish. I am so grateful to know and be able to observe him.💦🙏🐟

Thanks for this video. My puffers are so picky. They will only eat the snails (I have tons) and the frozen bloodworms. I have one small puffer that wont touch any of the frozen stuff. No brine shrimp, mysis shrimp or bloodworms. Only will eat snails. So I just bought some live scuds that I plan to introduce to the puffer tank and to my betta tank for live feeding.

Hmmm, I have a tiny puffer too who is so picky. I just tried frozen baby brine shrimp. Lukewarm reaction. I crush little ramshorn snails for him. He is just so tiny that the bites have to be tiny. The older bigger puffers eat the baby snails easier. I hope the live scuds work for your little guy. Where do you find live scuds?! Thanks!
