Honestly, I'd use Maya for retopology. If you're thinking of taking character/game art seriously. I have a lot of videos coming out that cover everything to do with Quad Draw and retop. Along with some base meshes people can use etc. Just keep an eye out for those.

Imagine gatekeeping a 3D software. I’m a blender user but I know how to use both maya and c4d. I just prefer blender. They are all very similar and produce the same result :)
On the surface with modelling yes. But once you link into other applications and departments, Blender is a bit of a toy tbh. If you're just modelling I think it's great. Maybe even better than Maya.

Haha, maybe! Blender certainly seems to be popular. But as far as industry work, Maya is the proprietary software for larger in house companies.
