The way the guitar tone blends with the kick drum is sublime. Also they made the fret squeaks part of the mix! Just beautiful engineering as always from Mr. Richgod.
@@stitchgrimly6167 This is breath of fresh air to hear the physical instrumentation being played. After In Rainbows, GodRich has overproduced Radiohead's songs in my opinion. Still bummed about Identikit (although the choir is pretty cool). The live versions of that song had much more energy.
This is a gorgeous song. As beautiful as anything Thom and Jonny have released as Radiohead. I can't stop listening to it. I can't remember the last time I listened to one song on repeat this many times.
Man, this really gets the old Radiohead/Thom Yorke cycle going. First listen: hmm yeah cool but not as good as what we're used to. Second/third/fourth/fifth listen: hmm yeah no it's interesting idk. Tenth listen: wow i just realized i've been unable to turn this song off all day, I think I've fallen in love with it.
Yep, you nailed it...my experience exactly with all of my favorites of Thom and the boys. It's a true gift to repeatedly make insanely incredible music that (I feel) is made purposefully to be only appreciated fully, on repeat-just the way I like my Radiohead and The Smile.
From that moment onward is perhaps my favorite stretch of music that they have done in all of their career, I can't tell you how many times I've repeated that sequence when listening to this song
My best friend died three days ago, at the age of 26. This song repeatedly plays in my head now, reminding me of him. "When we realize that we are broken, nothing mends We can drop under the surface". And so he did...
first couple listens to this album and i added a few songs to my playlist, wasn’t obsessed with it and didn’t quite “get” it. never really went back to it, other than a select few songs, until today-i listened to the album with my full attention. the album has been on repeat now for 8 hours. it is so breathtaking; truly a masterpiece. cant wait to see you guys in december.

I've listened to this song a couple times already, but just tonight this song clicked on me and I can't stop listening to it, I always love it when that happens, the last time it happened to me was when I was listening to present tense and I noticed how good the bassline is and got obsessed with it
So much beauty in six minutes. The voice, those arrangements, that bass, the deftness of the drumming, the incredible brass. They make it look easy. It's mastery. Majestic.
God, I love you. The video is dark and the twist of the film match perfectly with the wind instruments. It shown us the future: we, repairing our mistakes. It's beautiful. I can't wait for your album.
Very very good. I love how this song of Thom’s has developed since I heard him playing with it way back in 2009 live at Echo Park LA. Was wondering where/when it would show up. Love what they’ve done with it. Has all the musical elements I love and it gets better as it progresses. It’s warm and comforting some how with that bass and Thom’s lovely voice. Great video too! So excited for The Smile album.
I love both versions. The original version was so simple and more conventional in song structure, but in a good way. This version has a billion details after having been tinkered around with for years.
the song was released a week after my grandfather passed away and the lyrics still have me thinking about our whole experience on earth, we just have to spread love and spend time with the ones we truly love
I haven’t heard this live nor have I heard any unreleased version so I’m really excited to hear this! I’m not going to spoil this for myself, I want to experience this for the first time during the premiere. I’m so excited!
the more grizzled he gets the more sweet and soft the music becomes. thom yorke understands beauty in music is the tension between contrasts softly and artfully held.
I feel like this is Thom and Jonny's ultimate masterpiece, or perhaps I should say penultimate until he tops it..... because the greatest musical genius of all time will inevitably do so. It will ooze out of his mind like no other in history. Thom's works of musical art set my soul ablaze and enrapture my mind all the way around every song he/they have ever written. I am fully in awe and absolute wonder of your masterpieces, listening over and over, since I was 16 years old. My roommates swore I was going to wear out my copy of "OK Computer" on CD, and it was available on tape at the time as well, to give you a reference point of where we were in musical technology at the time 🤣🤣🤣🤣, 1997. My copies of Pablo Honey as well as The Bends were on cassette tapes, you know the archaic pieces of plastic with a thin film inside with the music on it......and they would always meet their demise when my car's tape deck would eat the flimsy film. The way you knew this was happening was the music would slowly become very creepy......slowed down music and a voice sounding like ever so creepy and mechanical like when a serial killer speaks in a movie 😆 that purposefully distorted voice that sends chills up the spine. Anyways, Cheers Mates, until we perhaps meet one day, though I feel as if I've known you for 26+ years now through your heart wreching, agonizingly gorgeous, funny at times, and often blatantly satirical lyrics. There are not enough adjectives in this language to describe your songs. And in the words of the late, great 70's band Abba..... Thank You For The Music. You have changed my life for the much better and I can't imagine my life without Radiohead and bonus band The Smile. Some of the greatest moments of my life were set to a Radiohead song.....picking up the pieces of an eviscerated heart after my Dad passed to his permanent home with God, receiving my college degree with honors, my niece and nephew coming into this existence, and many more moments....from perfect and wonderful all the way down to terrifying and disgusting, even unbearable. So again, I thank you Thom, Jonny, all members of Radiohead and The Smile drummer (also Tom but minus the "h"). I love and adore you. You are all treasures and inspirations to sooooooo many.....past, present and to come. A true gift from God your music is and continues to be.
This shares a lot with In Rainbows. The lyrics about how everything or every day life loses its weight when being confronted with death... The later part with the horns, brass, woodwinds and orchester reminds me of the warm melancholy of Reckoner.
As much as I love the original version of the track that Thom, Johnny and Radiohead did back in 2011/2012, I can say, they really gave it a new/different kind of life that I really appreciate. A different energy but perfectly fitting for what it is.

Combination of this haunting tune, lyrics and metaphorical performance of Thom, devised filmed and directed in deepest Cornwall by Mark Jenkin is sublime.
I love the way the guitars are miked on this. The engineering on all three songs so far has been superb. If ECM Records released rock records, they would sound like this.
It makes me cry, it's so beautiful
Love it feels a bit like Bowie’s Blackstar vibe
This is a gorgeous song. As beautiful as anything Thom and Jonny have released as Radiohead.
I can't stop listening to it. I can't remember the last time I listened to one song on repeat this many times.
The Smile has been quite the breath of fresh in regards to all things Radiohead. Cant wait for this album. Spectacular work guys! 👌
Classic Thom sending me to a cloud full of angels singing to me… never fails
The subtle pulsating strings on 4:27 are absolutely perfect.
From that moment onward is perhaps my favorite stretch of music that they have done in all of their career, I can't tell you how many times I've repeated that sequence when listening to this song
Это шедевр
Как же я счастлив, что ребята продолжают творить подобное
и это здорово!
У меня мысли, созвучные с вашими🌸
His voice is so gorgeous in this
Probably the umpteenth time i've listened to this song. The saxophone part, especially at 4:04 grips me with motivation everytime.
I love it. Reminds me of Weird Fishes/Arpeggi. Getting some great vibes from these new songs! Thanks You guys for making amazing music!
It has a reckoner vibe too
Here we go
Was always hyped to hear this someday along with Cut a Hole
My best friend died three days ago, at the age of 26. This song repeatedly plays in my head now, reminding me of him.
"When we realize that we are broken, nothing mends
We can drop under the surface".
And so he did...
Beyond melancholy. Haunting. Natural progression.
Thom cannot produce anything but Beautiful, ethereal and such soothing music. It touches my soul!!
Just amazing how Thom can keep a voice like that 👏👏👏👏👏
One of THE Smile songs for me. Properly mad.
first couple listens to this album and i added a few songs to my playlist, wasn’t obsessed with it and didn’t quite “get” it. never really went back to it, other than a select few songs, until today-i listened to the album with my full attention. the album has been on repeat now for 8 hours. it is so breathtaking; truly a masterpiece. cant wait to see you guys in december.
That's usually the case with Radiohead themselves and all of their side projects. Your first take is usually not accurate. Have to persevere and eventually you get rewarded with pure gold.
I've listened to this song a couple times already, but just tonight this song clicked on me and I can't stop listening to it, I always love it when that happens, the last time it happened to me was when I was listening to present tense and I noticed how good the bassline is and got obsessed with it
This is so melancholic and gorgeous.
So, so fucking amazing. I feel blessed that I am alive when Thom and the boys are making this great, great sonic art.
Do yall all tear up when you hear his voice or is it just me??
Rubbish.
@@johnmurray8112 What’s rubbish?
@@4minutewarning John's comment
Haunting and beautiful
How beautiful this is. Pure bliss.
the song was released a week after my grandfather passed away and the lyrics still have me thinking about our whole experience on earth, we just have to spread love and spend time with the ones we truly love
So Thom Yorke is inventing his own time signatures now. Amazing.
I haven’t heard this live nor have I heard any unreleased version so I’m really excited to hear this! I’m not going to spoil this for myself, I want to experience this for the first time during the premiere. I’m so excited!
The first version of it... thom solo piano is the best version so far. We'll hear soon tho.
@@SoundsVinyl nah 2012 full band version was better
I can't wait for this album!!!
Hopefully it comes soon!!🙏
Me neither
Yeah
Same!!!
At this rate we'll hear most of it before it releases
the more grizzled he gets the more sweet and soft the music becomes. thom yorke understands beauty in music is the tension between contrasts softly and artfully held.
Ooh, the orchestral part really took my breath away. Beautiful work, altogether!
Took one listen and I'm already in love with the song and the music video
This shares a lot with In Rainbows. The lyrics about how everything or every day life loses its weight when being confronted with death... The later part with the horns, brass, woodwinds and orchester reminds me of the warm melancholy of Reckoner.
Sublime
the "We have only to click our fingers and we disappear" line is way too important these days
Wow that brass or whatever it is really floats in there.
Dear God. It's beautiful.
It fits spring mood perfectly, the melody sounds like melting snow, Mother nature wakes up. can't wait for the whole album
This is a true modern contemporary masterpiece and the only one in too long, cheers and thanks to all.
This is insane - music, production, soul. OMG
i loved the brass section
🌺
Love the textures. A real treat. Ending sounds a lot like Bowie's Blackstar album.
absolutely gorgeous
One of the best videos I've seen in years. This is how it's done!
This has to be the most beutiful sounding song on the Album. i love the album, but this song....i really LOVE it.
Thank you The Smile.
As much as I love the original version of the track that Thom, Johnny and Radiohead did back in 2011/2012, I can say, they really gave it a new/different kind of life that I really appreciate. A different energy but perfectly fitting for what it is.
Wow..why is this so underrated? This song deserves more views and likes
It makes me close the eyes the way my cat does when i pet her
Perfect description 👌🏻
The vocals in this are something else. So so so beautiful
First time hearing this artist. The music, the sounds, the visual. I have my headphones on and I was instantly taken in my the music
I'm so happy to hear this song again with such a beautiful arrangement and beautiful video as well, thank you The Smile
Easily the best song on the album, amazing 👍
well if that was the best song, im probably not gonna try any more LOL
@@TheAbandonedAccount7 well you've got no taste in music Brandon
I have been struggling with some issues, stuck on them, ruminating over them not able to move forward and while listening to this album I came to conclusions about these issues which made me think of then in a different way. Thus reducing my anxiety and giving me peace.Thom Yorke is a musical wizard.
Amazing song, amazing video.
This song and Speech Bubbles, I cannot say which I like more. I absolutely love both. Wonderful ending of a remarkable album.
