I find myself unable to stop thinking about that closing moment when the final version of Thom arrives at the bar and "sees" the other versions of himself who are almost pantomiming his different daily emotions and moods. He's looking at them like they are different people even as he recognizes them. Whether or not I follow through with it, thank you Thom, Jonny, and Tom, for making me feel all sorts of emotions again. What a glorious, yet humble, triumvirate.
I have a strong feeling that the second album will be more cohesive, consisting only of brand new material. Amazing singles, and this PTA masterpiece brought nice memories of the day that "Daydreaming" came out. It's wonderful to see our idols getting older and still creating their best material yet.
I am continually blown away by the progression of these people, as well as their ability to make songs that grow and expand upon listening. What a cool, intimate, stripped-down sound. I love the maturity and vulnerability of Thom's aging voice, the eerie-sweeping strings, the incredible swinging and 'bombing' percussion. Cannot wait for the new album!
How on Earth can these guys keep releasing such amazing pieces of artful work? I am aware that there are only three of them and that Johnny and Thom are composing together since those 'On a Friday ' jams, but still: it amazes me how much talent can these guys still display as it is! I can honestly say I can't wait for the album to be released!

@@TheLunarnotesmany “artists” have the financial backing to live a life of high creative output but very few have the talent to capitalize on the dream of consistently making unique and moving records. If money were the primary headwind, we’d have a lot more more good music from commercially successful artists. The reality is most good music these days comes from artists who have difficulty making a livable wage as a musician. It seems that money is more or less irrelevant in the formulation of great music.

I am so proud to have followed and loved him for so long and continue to this day
Absolutely same feelings here. He’s a musical, magical wonder to this universe. Honestly an alien with how mesmerizing and otherworldly his creations are 🖤🥀
You gotta really appreciate Jonny for his devoted efforts to accompany that feeling you love from the band as well. Especially on the one song fuck what’s its name with the peaky blinder guy in it cillian
this is what Aging like a boss looks like kids !... not just his body, but his importance as an artist. he stil has a lot to offer even though he had massive success and he is living and creating free from his own shadows... bravo thom , you keep on inspiring me to this day !
For me, Thom just gets more attractive ❤ Love him so much, I cried I was so happy for him when he married the lady from Sicily,, gosh her name escapes me today. I hope they have many children.😻
man I feel like the intense feelings of agoraphobia and intense introspection and the RADICAL discomfort and disassociation that can bring when those concepts merge is represented SO well here, no music video has ever filled me with such an intense inclination to have a quiet night in and avoid everyone possible while I try to think some things through Man I cannot wait for this album
Wow. Very well put. That sense of alienation whilst in a crowd, the inner dialogue when we can't find a way to fit into a space full of people and fully partake in it. It blows my mind that they collaborate with Paul Thomas Anderson, because only a true master of film like him could have expressed what you're describing so well. With this and Daydreaming it's a profound collaboration of music and visuals unlike any I've ever seen.
@@MrTagoe-xw8yg I see a lot of that reflected lyrically, but in the music video it fills me with this keen and specific sensation like he's getting overwhelmed by those feelings and notions while being so utterly oversaturated in human contact and unable to just fully focus on the singular feeling of the thoughts now overtaking him, providing an even sharper juxtaposition between the outer-body feelings invoked by a particularly heavy wave of something like imposter syndrome. There's almost tranquility and macabre acceptance I see reflected in it, like realizing you're starving at the same time you're drowning. purely my own initial takeaway from things, but man regardless of the specific intent behind it may have been, it sure as fuck is objectively poignant.
I feel similar. I also think that there is certain feeling of it being kind of forced on the lyrical subject. Like apart from all this discomfort and sick thoughts there is no way to escape from them. I just started to work 1,500 km away from my family to let them live normally, and pay off debt. The feeling of alienation and almost derealization I'm getting from being half of the time among people that use a language I do not know, and half among strangers that came from my country but are substantially different from me, it really weighs down on a human. I really connect with this song personally, one of those few good songs that you feel rather than hear.
Didn’t hear that coming. Always interesting and intriguing. Many thanks for having music to look forward to and a body of work to revisit. Hoping for a ‘Live From The Basement’…. Cheers…. many thanks, and much ❤
Well, from the basement is a project by Neil Godrich and this is an album that he didnt produced! It clearly doesnt sound like him! Interesting decision but now you cant expect a From The Basement
Thom must be the most free guy there is. I feel better doing the Thom Yorke dance while singing along, I can only imagine how he feels being the original creator.
I am continuously amazed by Thom and the Radiohead contingent’s ability to continuously reinvent themselves and find new artistic inspiration year after year (decade after decade). They have created a whole musical ecosystem over the course of their careers, with The Smile being just the latest work of mastery. I loved The Smile’s first album, and I am truly excited to listen to “Wall of Eyes” in full 😁
@xavicampoverde6031I actually have pretty similar thoughts and feelings about this song. The chord progression is very open and wandering (without a conventional cadence or resolution), which creates an interesting atmosphere. I agree that this song doesn’t have a strong melodic hook, which I think creates a somewhat mysterious kind of vibe overall. I am curious to see how this song fits and aligns within the context of the full album.
I can’t think of a single band/artist I grew up with that is making better music today than they were back in the 90s - seriously it’s insane what these dudes have done over all these years - much love
This song hits me as deep as Daydreaming did. It's of course different but the mood is similar and the video shows also a Thom who seems to be lonely, doesn't find the place where he could be connected to someone or feels like he's not belonging to anyone. Like in Daydreaming, i have the wish to give Thom a hug. I thought Bending Hectic would be my Song of the year but this one and with this video diggs even deeper.Well,i miss Radiohead but Thom and Johnny give us such great music, that helps a lot
I’m literally crying, I’m so thankful just to be able to watch this. Pandemic was horrible but universe definitely had something better for us. Props if you managed to survive and be here today.
I love Thom and his friends' art, but it's very bold statement! At least in every country can find some unique talents. In my native-speaker country is Auctyon.
HansDelli, I can't quite remember the city but I think its the dead city of Nineveh (maybe Sumer). If you look further, in its walls are engravings of the people that lived their with hollowed eyes with some painted black and white. This video is a reference to that city and their song "How to Disappear Completely". That's what this city, or at least its people did; the only person in this entire video alive is Thom's character and everything else is a (Mal-adaptive) daydream. Thom's point is for us to figure out why.
Absolutely delighted that this individual continues to create and contribute to the world of artistic music! It's great to witness an artist who stays true to their unconventional and non-commercial style. We could use more of this genuine, non-sell-out music in the world.
Always seem to drop a new song that resonates perfectly with how I'm feeling. Today my MS has knocked my mood down a wormhole and I haven't switched my phone on today because I can't face it. Thom Yorke is the only artist that is able to constantly give me chills, his vocals are so angelic it's like listening melancholic angel sing these tunes. Beautiful work as usual.
“Wall of Eyes” is the opening and title-track of The Smile’s second album. The song was is accompanied by a music video directed by Paul Thomas Anderson. Notably, the promotional materials for Radiohead’s 2010 album The King of Limbs included a poem seemingly titled “Wall of Ice,” incorporating the phrase “wall of eyes.” During that period, there were speculations circulating that Radiohead might release an album or EP titled “Wall of Ice.”
Everything you do I love it. Thom Yorke , I really appreciate the person you are . Thank you for helping me through a day surrounded by narcissistic parents. Your music allows me to be free and it gives me the strength to make music . You changed my life

Genius, pure unadulterated genius. The words flow images, and emotions directly into your brain as you listen... Very few artists can do this, but it seems with Thom it's a natural gift he has. Beautiful, more piece of art than a tune.

@@Killadey I don't mean the song infers to us. That would indeed be implication. I mean that the song itself is inferencial. It draws on inference. It concludes the reaction and expectations and then plays on that intuitively. My comment was a bit incoherent, though, and misspelled 😆 fair enough.

@@sagittated I'm glad, tbh... I would have been a bit disappointed if it was "white". I hold him to a high standard and for him to buy into that garbage and then even to put it into his song lyrics would have been a bit of a letdown. Perfect. Everything about it. I absolutely love the counting to 5 background vocal that makes its way in there. The amazing video. And "Let's raise our glasses to what we don't deserve"....
Wonderfully bittersweet, dark beneath the shiny veneer, with a glimmer of hope, but tainted with a feeling that something's just not quite right. Very typical style we're accustomed to by Yorke/Greenwood, but surprises us every time. It feels like being dragged beneath the surface somehow. And you can't stop listening.
I can’t stop watching this and it just keeps getting better and better. Feels like a a film from the silent era and those tiny explosions of color remind me of Punch-Drunk Love PTA! Both music and video are gems! ❤
Yet another first listen where the question seems to be "can they make a melody out of random theremin-like electrical signals..." why yes.... yes they can. And of course, we all love it because it has the real feel.
Wow! Just stunning work again. This is one of the most gorgeous, mysterious and profound piece of music I've heard in a while. The film by PTA is so original and beautiful. Amazingly talented artists.
Love how these guys are fully aware of a beautiful counter-melody, but never flesh it out. A lesser band would have milked it to resolve the tension. This piece is so powerful in its restraint.
They're really taking the abstract compositional style of AMSP to its logical extreme. Really interesting unpredictable patterns and melodies in this one.
The lyrics seem to address the experience of facing challenges and difficulties in life. There is mention of a decline in self-esteem or personal situation, the presence of externally perceived barriers, and the creation of the situation by oneself. There is also a reference to a possible loss of identity or emotional connection, with an insistence on facing something that persists despite attempts. It suggests celebrating despite not feeling deserving and emphasizes the fleeting nature of time. The lyrics raise questions about identity and lost vitality. I know that feeling bro.

I have a strong feeling that the second album will be more cohesive, consisting only of brand new material. Amazing singles, and this PTA masterpiece brought nice memories of the day that "Daydreaming" came out. It's wonderful to see our idols getting older and still creating their best material yet.
Please no, there's like 10 unreleased songs. 😂
this very song dates back to the king of limbs days at least
the album also includes Bending Hectic so probably not

I think when you don't have financial pressures and can just hang out in studios all day and mess around, stuff happens. Not all of us have that luxury unfortunately, but they've earnt that space.

Beautiful and outstanding in every way
man I feel like the intense feelings of agoraphobia and intense introspection and the RADICAL discomfort and disassociation that can bring when those concepts merge is represented SO well here, no music video has ever filled me with such an intense inclination to have a quiet night in and avoid everyone possible while I try to think some things through
Man I cannot wait for this album
With this and Daydreaming it's a profound collaboration of music and visuals unlike any I've ever seen.
is this also about imposter syndrome...or the feeling OF imposter syndrome?
@@jfmgunner anima with thom and pts is truly amazing too, its such a good artistic duo i'll never get used to how mind blowing they are together

Thom must be the most free guy there is. I feel better doing the Thom Yorke dance while singing along, I can only imagine how he feels being the original creator.
Music, video and Thom's voice...Magnificent; I'm already obsessed.
I couldn't have said it better...I totally agree with you!
I only know this I am so very in love with Tony Galvan and only him that I refuse to live any longer with out him n my life
@xavicampoverde6031I actually have pretty similar thoughts and feelings about this song.

Glad someone else remembers this

I love how this track infers without going in the direction your expect. Beautiful
You know that infer doesn't mean the same as imply don't you?
@@Killadey I don't mean the song infers to us. That would indeed be implication. I mean that the song itself is inferencial. It draws on inference. It concludes the reaction and expectations and then plays on that intuitively. My comment was a bit incoherent, though, and misspelled 😆 fair enough.

Love how these guys are fully aware of a beautiful counter-melody, but never flesh it out. A lesser band would have milked it to resolve the tension. This piece is so powerful in its restraint.

One of the greatest directors of all time collaborating once again with Yorke and Greenwood, two of the greatest musicians ever.
