Whenever I miss home back in Tennessee, I put on this song and go back to one of those many endless summer nights, surrounded by bar patrons of all ages who simultaneously become animated with the spirit of Appalachia as we all sing this song together at the top of our lungs. Doesn’t matter where the wind takes my family and I, Tennessee will always be home. I found my soul and spirituality in those hills. Fell in love with my wife there. Brought a beautiful child into the world there, whom we named after the hills that protected our hidden little piece of heaven on earth. Appalachia raised me up into the man I am in many ways, every bit like my own Mom. I’ve traveled many places, experienced many cultures, and have met endless people in this world. All peoples are unique, but the Appalachian folks are built of the most hard enduring but loving material or substance I’ve ever encountered. That’s what Appalachia is to me, its a spirit of sorts that fills you with the kind of love that allows one to endure.

The world is changing. The old ways are dying, and so much has been lost forever. The future seems to be hurtling towards us at a breakneck pace. But in a handful of places, that's not quite true. Places like Rocky Top. Nestled high up in the Appalachians, it almost feels protected from the march of time. As though you could reach out and touch the past, still alive and well. There are many in the world who cherish such places, and guard them jealously from those who would try to change them.

I’ve always lived in Ohio but since my mom was a kid we have had a cabin in rocky top. I come down here at least 5 times a year and intend to keep it going and also bring my kids here when I have some. I first heard of this song from my grandma and I listen to it every day and she passed away a couple years ago. I love this song the most because it gives me memories of one of my favorite people in the world.❤️❤️❤️
I grew up with a dad who played bluegrass on his Martin guitar. My childhood is filled with summertime memories of weekend music gatherings at our house, we would have 5 or 6 musicians and their families over for bbq, bluegrass, hand cranked homemade ice cream, and homemade wine. I accompanied my dad to bluegrass festivals all over Ohio, West Virginia and Kentucky. I had the privilege of witnessing some of the all time greatest blue grass guys ever. Bill Monroe, Bobby and Sonny Osborne, Jimmy Martin and Ralph Stanley just to name a few. When I hear good bluegrass, it takes me back to those childhood memories-it was good times when life was much simpler.
I have many similar memories with my dad. I agree with you 100% Mike. Bluegrass is the music that brings back memories of not only simpler times, but for me, happier times.
I might be from West Virginia but you can't help but like this song! It's one of the best Bluegrass songs of all time! And when you hit the fiddle and banjo solos, good God if that don't get your feet to moving then I don't know what will!
Fantastic to see these two. Both my great-uncles and never have met them. Found out two years ago that we were related by my mother’s grandma’s last name, Osborne. Great to see them still inspiring younger generations like myself
I so terribly miss East Tennessee. Hatred from Saint Louis is more than I care. Strange how Volunteers are rewarded only being strong and healthy unlike few people.
This line has two meanings. One - corn for the table was purchased at the General Store (in jars back then). Two - The obvious corn liquor or moonshine which was often consumed from a jar.

Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
I'm an osborne too!
RIP Bobby Osborne. ROCKY TOP, YOU'll ALWAYS BE! Home, SWEET home, to me!
One of my favorite songs. I've moved to Tennessee and love it here. I must visit Rocky Top.
I used to live in Tennessee. Lived there for so long and I had to move. But when I hear this song, my true Tennessee pride is unleashed!
I so terribly miss East Tennessee. Hatred from Saint Louis is more than I care. Strange how Volunteers are rewarded only being strong and healthy unlike few people.
Fantastic Song And Well Performed!!! Fantastic Job To You All, ❤️❤️❤️👍👍👍
"Corn won't grow at all on Rocky Top; dirt's too rocky by far; that's why all the folks on Rocky Top get their corn from a jar..."
+Charlie Fisher It was probably about IRS agents... Internal Revenue Service... Revenuers.
rockie top
This line has two meanings. One - corn for the table was purchased at the General Store (in jars back then). Two - The obvious corn liquor or moonshine which was often consumed from a jar.
when i was a kid i thought they were growing corn plants in a jar
Where do they get their peas?
Me and my best friend were on a road trip down to Marco island and we passed through Tennessee and blasted rocky top on repeat a good 10 times. Did it on the way back too
Back in the day at around 16 years old I found an Osborne Bros. cassette in my uncle's truck. My life changed after I listened to that tape...
Tennessee, you make us all very proud! There is a star on Old Glory for you indeed!
Bill Bright #16!
I love my state and I'm so glad we have this as one of our songs!! ❤️

They absolutely nail this song, a lot of grit and pure sound coming from this one. Solid country gold!
Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. Acts 2:38 💙✨
Therefore also now, saith the LORD, turn ye even to me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning: Joel 2:12
My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings. Proverbs 4:20 💙✨
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. John 3:16 💙✨
I see Sonny Osborne recently passed away on October 24th. RIP Sonny 🙏 🕊 ☮. A great musician and an important part of America's bluegrass tradition.

Play this song all night right now!
It's wonderful watching and listening to musicians who can play and sing live and in person. I admire real musicians like these.
I refuse to buy any singer's album until I hear them sing live somewhere....that's when you'll know if they can really sing. I've been in studios...I know how they work😁
You mean like Johnny Depp on stage pretending to play a guitar lmao
Years ago my bother and me went to visit my dad's old navy buddy from well in nashville, his wife sheerly was the controller of nashville, sweetest lady ever vary propose, went to dolly world ,band started playing that song people jumped out of there seats into the walk way shoes went flying ,and she was the first up,ya ,she was from rocky top!!! Love turning this on the way home from Ben Hill for the last 2 decades after dominating Tennessee!
Tennessee won against Alabama tonight October 15 2022 for the first time in 16 YEARS "GOOD OLD ROCKY TOP TENNESSEE WHOOO!!!!"
I'm more into Hard Rock, Heavy Metal and Punk Rock but I gotta say that these folks are true musicians!!! I love banjo music!! Flatt and Scruggs are Idols of mine!!! These guys nail this song!!! One thing that sucks about this song...Its not long enough!!!!!
+Dennis Lyons As a fellow metal head and punk rocker, I agree. SLAYER!!!
+Keith Lammon Yea Slayer friggin rocks!!! I saw them over here in Ft. Lauderdale back around 2000 sometime and they blew my mind. they played in this place where after they were done they had this meet n greet thing and they signed autographs. it was around Halloween cuz there was a costume contest and their lead singer was the guy that stood on the stage asking for people to yell for the person with the best costume. It was really cool. My ex girlfriend has pictures of us standing next to the band but getting copies of then is an impossibility now. posses me off that I never got copies
+Keith Lammon I get into blue grass music but it has to be fast tempo!! Foggy Mountain Breakdown by Flatt &Scruggs is my favorite!!
Dennis Lyons all forms of modern music evolved from bluegrass and blues!
Same here brother, but Tool!
Music like this touches my soul in a way no other music can or will.
This win tonight is the epitome of this song and a long time coming. Smokey needs a treat and a nap.
Lived in Tennessee almost my whole life. Proud to live here but the weather is crazy
It's the same way up here in Kentucky too lol.
tell me about it lived there 10 years and 2 tornadoes. I am getting ready to kidnap my po. we will be coming up that way pretty near soon. if you see middle age black woman and senior white women river rafting--laughing and having fun--may be seen in or near Gatlinburg--gambling in Cherokee--please dial 911 or the fbi number 1 800 1 do not give a shit. this has been a public service announcement. may be staying in the osbourne brothers hotel
Amen to that and the only good thing about that is that if you don't like it wait 2 minutes it will change.

Wild as a mink but sweet as soda pop, I still dream about that :)
There is some good Whiskey around there. I go to Tennessee all the time and boy it is sweet as caramel.
I wouldn’t live anywhere else!
I used to get mine from an old man at a place we called The Walls of Jericho which is right on the Alabama/Tennessee line. At the head of Paint Rock Valley. This mixed with peppermint candy, honey, and lemon was the best cough medicine you could get.
