Oh yeah, you're right, I don't know if you've read the book but the emotions the Jonas felt after his lessons with the Giver were much more amplified than before, and it's specifically stated near the end of the book, when Jonas feels first-hand starvation and pain for the first time.
I like the way that the giver describes it in the movie- people have feelings, but they are only surface level and are fleeting; what is cut from everyone's experience of the world (when they take their medication) is their "emotions" which are "deep" and rooted, passionate, primal. Idk, that's just what I took from when the giver said things about that stuff while at the piano
its a strange sentence, but its more like its describing two different things. the "comfort" at play is the physical embrace, while the rest is simply a description of what the giver does/says after or during that action.
I was forced to read this book in school when I was young and hated reading. It became one of my favourite books. I still don't read much, but look back on it fondly still
Honestly with how much people talk about 1984, I’d rather this sorta society. No bullshit, everyone’s chill, sure freedom and emotion are gone, but in the end it’s still ultimately better.

The book was better at portraying how big of a deal the War memory was. When Jonas walked to the school he saw the kids playing War and was disgusted by the kids portrayal of such a serious thing.

This story was extremely interesting to me. The way the story goes from black and white to slowly colours makes me feel nostalgic with them talking about how life can be so beautiful if you look at it closely

this was the only book i read in school that i genuinely enjoyed reading. the book does a much better job at portraying the extent of “utopia” and the emotions and feelings of these ppl

This was used in the movie I just loved, Pleasantville. It is a much lighter movie, but it was great fun. It was actually very similar in plot, but the two teenagers ended up as characters in a black and white 1950 sitcom, where they gradually wreak havoc upon that perfect fictional world.
I would argue the worst idea in the book is that all the memories of the past, good and bad, all rush to the community instead of gradually like the receiver. That small population would quickly exterminate bird box style.
One of the best shows I didnt really watch as I dont usually like shows that effect my emotions. Its good to see people fighting for love , truth , understanding , freedom and for what is right.
The memory that the Giver showed Jonas to give him courage was of the guy in China that managed to stop a line of tanks... Both him and the soldier in the tank were probably killed, but they will forever have my respect and admiration for their respect and value of human life.
The guy was carrying bags and climbed on the tank if I remember, bystanders made him get off and ushered him away. for all we know they might have lived another day.

Made him really relatable. I first learned about the clip on a geography class. It was pretty shocking, but at the same time not.... ? Since then, I watched a documentary that said the soldier was probably killed for disobeying orders (the tanks were going to the Peace Square if I'm not mistaken), and the man probably too. Sad, isn't it? A man just wanted to prevent the murder of people unhappy with a dictatorship. And another one just didn't want to kill another human for standing up and not taking it with a mouth shut. They were both so brave, yet now they are probably dead. And yet, we now have such a inspirating clip. "You can do it, you can make a difference. No matter how small you are." So perhaps we should just start making a difference, even if a small one. Because it really does matter. Alright, this is pretty big already.... So I'm going to stop writing now. Sorry if I philosophized a bit too much.
@@alexisventura7191 pretty sure there's more ppl there that got him off and the tanks were leaving tiananamen square, it's original name is nantianmen square meaning southern heavenly/heavens gate square. If u find an undoctered photage of the incident fron the beginning and after the guy left the scene you can see pillars at the top-left of the video sometimes, that's tiananmen square. The tanks were already leaving but we have no photage of what happened after but later pictures depict burnt tanks along the road not sure how far away from the square. Stunning how indoctrinated ppl can do so much for their beliefs and values with just a little push and a bit of misinformation from their superiors. To lay down their lives for leaders who won't sink with their ships, a fight to the bitter all the more suffering for humanity.

I can’t remember in the movie, but in the book it’s basically described as “failure to thrive”, meaning he’s weak and not growing or eating as much as he should. Since the community doesn’t have illness or disability they just get rid of the weaker kids.
i wish they kept the detail from the book about the community being completely flat (as in no slopes or hills), since it was a good way to show how much he first memory jonas recieved impacted him by leading him to slowly become frustrated that no one but him and the giver were allowed to experience the memories.
Coz the leader lady obviously one of the only person who don't have any restrain. And I think that's a smart thing to do. I mean it's dumb if EVERYONE were to be emotionless including the one who created these systems. There definitely should be someone who would monitor things.
From what I remember from the book, emotions were not removed completely, but were sort of watered down and limited to the shallow ones we experience day-to-day: enjoyment, excitement, annoyance, worry, surprise etc. but eliminating ones like love, desire, hate, despair or anything to intense that could cause irrational actions or conflict
Unfortunately, without the emotions we don't want to experience, such as pain, hate and sorrow, we cannot experience love, happiness and ecstacy. A movie like this can make you think deeply about life, but mainly on how to appreciate it.

@@DBtheGhost2 primates have an instinctive drowning response, so as long as the baby saw it coming, it would hold it's breath. I would say though, it didn't look like it saw it coming. But also, the younger a child is, the less susceptible they are to neurological damage, and even of they are damaged, they're at an age where they have lots of cerebral development ahead of them to overcome it. I remember, for instance, once that a baby drowned in a river for about half an hour and was dead for well over an hour and when was revived was deemed to suffer no neurological damage.
I don't think that in concepts like this emotions are truly gone. Because if that was the case people wouldn't have the will to do anything. I think that they're just muted. Like, there's a tingling but its barely there.
even as someone who is a diagnosed ASPD patient its still hard to explain it just happens even tho we feel almost no emotion other than anger and excitement but somewhat rarely
The Giver was actually based off of a book that I read last year. The book is ten times better than the movie and explains things far better, and not to mention that it’s an entire series.

I'm a fan of sci fi and dystopian movies and judging by the story and how it reveals the true colors of humanity, this was the best so far I've ever seen.

Living in a world without emotions would be terrifying considering you wouldn't be able to feel the bad nor the good things about life. You'd be living a lie.
Except it wouldn't be terrifying, it would be normal. We see it as terrifying from our perspective. You can see how the world they live in actually isn't "bad", because bad as a concept doesn't exist, if you get what I mean. It's what makes it such an interesting book/film. Both the emotional and emotionless people are both right, just driven by different factors.
Equilibrium covered this as well despite being a far more action oriented movie. It's one of the most horrifying yet fascinating ideas of a 'utopian' society. Mass Effect's Mordin Solus puts it best when he talks about how these kinds of societies would be actively anathema to living. Without culture, without new ideas from art and literature and new ideas for interpretation, society is doomed to stagnation. Even Mass Effect's "Geth", entirely Artificial Intelligence synthetic beings are open to new ideas and co-existing with organic beings despite their creators trying to destroy them. Without new perspectives, without new ways to look through the same lens, we never have new ideas, new inventions, what happens when this 'utopian' society no longer has the means to provide the ingredients for it's emotion-dampening drugs? This is a band-aid on a festering wound that will result in total anarchy eventually, the elders are merely forestalling the inevitable.
Book was eons better. Portrayed the lack of emotions in people far better, and the ending was also much better. The movie felt like it turned into a stereotypical teen drama that completely opposed the book.
The film is also good but the thing is that the book should've never been adapted to film in the first place, it's not the kind of story that would work well if presented as a film, so they probably had no choice but to turn it into a typical "teens in a dystopian world" kind of film
I always interpreted the ending as Jonas finally reaching the border and letting all the memories go as he dies of hypothermia and the sled memory was his first happy memory and that’s why he sees it as he dies. I guess Fiona also dies from being injected despite the memories being released.

World population is nearly 8 billion people. Only 200 years ago, the world population was only 1 billion people. Over 200,000 people are born every single day, and that number is still increasing. The advancement of medicine and the ability to save people from their own weakness will be the downfall of the Earth, as we have way more people on Earth than our planet is capable of supporting. As it stands now, in regards to the resources we use and the ability of the planet to absorb our waste, we are using up about 1.8 Earths worth of the planetary capacity to support life on a daily basis... essentially taking out a "loan" against the world that will never be paid back. You are right, it is better to know the truth. However, as an individual, it is nearly impossible to make any impact even knowing these truths.

Those needs and desires grow faster than the resources needed to support them because the world no longer has forms of population control, and we are swiftly erasing all forms of natural hazards that traditionally control this. "Only the strong survive" is a phrase often repeated by people like myself for two reasons. One) this is how it has always been since the dawn of time, and Two) this is how it will be when the systems that protect people from themselves collapse. The fall of Rome is not just some historical thing that happened in the past, it is a template of what happens when society collapses. And that template can be applied in nearly all societies of the world. In fact, the United Nations themselves have documented over 195 countries that no longer exist today, and I don't mean from thousands of years ago. Plenty of changes just in the last 100 years. Only 2 countries in the entire world make up nearly 40% of the entire world population. That's nuts. As those countries grow and are unable to support themselves, they will become more desperate, taking what they cannot make for themselves. The worst of society already do. (Scammers, hackers, thieves of intellectual property... this is only the beginning) Now of course, not all people are inherently bad like that... but what do you think will happen to the rest of the world when smaller countries get to that same point of desperation? If the US gets to this point, we will have worse problems than no toilet paper in the stores, and look at how much of a problem THAT caused by itself. We are all living on a ledge that can collapse at any moment. If we expand to new planets, we will just strip those planets of their resources as well and move on. That is the only CYCLE we have to look forward to. Human beings are parasites that take everything from their host until nothing remains. The greed of humanity outweighs ALL other wants and desires, and our societies are built around that greed, supporting it and encouraging it. Look at societal support for Big Tech, Big Pharma, and places like Amazon and Google. These corporations control our medicine, our computers, our supplies, and even our knowledge. If that doesn't at least concern you a little bit, then you are likely one of the people who would not be able to survive without them if they collapse.
Amazing movie 10/10 I always see ppl complaining about the adaptation of a book dude no one can perfectly adapt what's in the book. I remember reading this as a Reading assignment during middle school. We were supposed to read aloud, but due to my stutter (it tends to happen when the spotlight appears over me), I kindly refused to.
If we think about what causes depression and anxiety and how we're all self-medicating now to control these feelings, it's not too far-fetched to think some humans might decide they'd live better lives without them. But I think this shows that our depression and anxiety are feelings we need to process and grow from and not just delete from our existence. It's good that mental health as a whole is becoming more acceptable in society but we need to make sure it doesn't spiral into this kind of dystopian reality.
I think mental health acceptance is very important, however I think this modern world promotes self infantilisation and our social construct has broken the institutions which would have given the tools to understand we are more often frightened than hurt; and suffer more from our own imagination than from reality. Whilst in many important ways those institutions needed cleaning, we threw the baby out with the bath water. I just hope we can rebuild the concepts fast enough, but the last 4 or so years hasn't proved that to me.
Theres a great difference between sadness and depression, and a normal anxiety and a anxiety that cannot allow to you live. The mental health isn't about being happy, is about accept your emotions, process, and change yours thoughts to avoid maladaptative behaviours (and that's not allow you to enjoy the life as we see in the movie)
When my depression is treated I still get sad and in fact, I am appropriately sad instead of just feeling numb. I don't treat my depression to avoid those feelings, I treat to experience them as they are intended.
Loved this movie. Originally read the book for my english class but was so intrigued I had to see if there was a movie made about it... and there was! Loved how they used monochrome to show the emptiness of the world and introduced color as memories were discovered.
If you look at the history of communism in Asia you'll find many similarities. Lowry grew up during the cold war and the height of anti-communist propaganda in America and it certainly shaped her world view. The one-child policy in China has obvious parallels but Pol Pot's regime in Cambodia was major news at the time and included things like mandatory career paths and colorless clothing to avoid class distinction just like the book. There are Evangelical themes as well, in the book at least. I haven't seen the movie and this was just a synopsis so they may have glossed over some of the more subtle details.
Thank you! For over a decade I was trying to remember this book, The Giver. I always mistook it for Ender's Game. This whole time I thought Ender's Game was my favorite book but it seems it was The Giver. One scene I distinctly remember is the apple. I feel a part of me is no longer missing!

ngl, the giver is so much better as a book you feel how Jonas feels so much better through his astonishment of color and trying to explain it to the reader but just can't the revelation of memories, colors, and emotions just make it so much more impactful
what people never know is THIS BOOK IS A SERIES!!!! It has 3 sequls and they are all so interesting and AMAZING! Expecially highly recommend the last one!!! The second one is called Gathering Blue, then Messanger, then Son!!
@@hannahschaaf8018 the next two books, not directly, they are building the universe but you see Gabe and Jonah again, and the 4th book, son which is my favorite, actually starts within the first book and it’s awesome. It all ties together again at the last book for a new story.
I read the first and second book a few years back. Processing the information was a nightmare, might have to reread them since I can actually process the information fully now
Sounds like that Asher guy was a real hero. Even though he's still taking the drugs that nulls emotions, he still managed to do the right thing and not just let his friend go but helped him to get away. Then he straight up lies to his superiors about killing him.
Yea if that drug isn’t strong enough to suppress the love for his friend, I doubt it would be enough to suppress rage at another person or lust to another.
I actually read this book in class about 4 years ago now , I rarely read books but the book gave way more of an explanation then the movie. Some things are off or left out but other then that the movie just gives u a break from having to read the book

I read this book and watched the movie! They were both really good tbh, although I prefer the movies ending as I’m not that big of a fan of open endings and prefer ones where you know if there is a happy or sad ending, not an ending that can be interpreted as many different things. That’s just my personal opinion tho, and other than that I basically liked them an equal amount.
Pain gives happiness meaning. It reminds us of how great the opposite feeling feels. It's meaningful and essential for the greatest joys we can experience
This is literally my favorite book, read it once in 7th grade I think, I loved it so much, it was just so different, this book was what started my dystopian society addiction

The Giver is not only a *stunning* book, but an even better film adaptation, Lois lowery is one of my favorite authors and this book is such an amazing dystopian type movie and book, there are very few books ill ever actually read, but the giver is a fantastic book that really makes you question if what we have today is so bad, truly a remarkable book that im currently reading for the umpteenth time, i *highly* recommend it, reading it really makes the hairs on your neck stand up

Best part about this movie is how the color slowly returns as Jonas learns more and more it's such a small thing but has a great impact!
This was used in the movie I just loved, Pleasantville. It is a much lighter movie, but it was great fun. It was actually very similar in plot, but the two teenagers ended up as characters in a black and white 1950 sitcom, where they gradually wreak havoc upon that perfect fictional world.
and about colors i remember an anime where the girl only sees colors when the ML paints it I forgot the name.. the girl had silvery white hair
I would argue the worst idea in the book is that all the memories of the past, good and bad, all rush to the community instead of gradually like the receiver. That small population would quickly exterminate bird box style.

Both him and the soldier in the tank were probably killed, but they will forever have my respect and admiration for their respect and value of human life.
The guy was carrying bags and climbed on the tank if I remember, bystanders made him get off and ushered him away. for all we know they might have lived another day.

If u find an undoctered photage of the incident fron the beginning and after the guy left the scene you can see pillars at the top-left of the video sometimes, that's tiananmen square. The tanks were already leaving but we have no photage of what happened after but later pictures depict burnt tanks along the road not sure how far away from the square.

Probably. I'm thinking that since all babies are genetically modified they are supposed to reach these certain achievements by a certain date or they will be marked as dysfunctional and killed.
I can’t remember in the movie, but in the book it’s basically described as “failure to thrive”, meaning he’s weak and not growing or eating as much as he should. Since the community doesn’t have illness or disability they just get rid of the weaker kids.

Coz the leader lady obviously one of the only person who don't have any restrain. And I think that's a smart thing to do. I mean it's dumb if EVERYONE were to be emotionless including the one who created these systems. There definitely should be someone who would monitor things.
From what I remember from the book, emotions were not removed completely, but were sort of watered down and limited to the shallow ones we experience day-to-day: enjoyment, excitement, annoyance, worry, surprise etc. but eliminating ones like love, desire, hate, despair or anything to intense that could cause irrational actions or conflict

@@DBtheGhost2 primates have an instinctive drowning response, so as long as the baby saw it coming, it would hold it's breath. I would say though, it didn't look like it saw it coming. But also, the younger a child is, the less susceptible they are to neurological damage, and even of they are damaged, they're at an age where they have lots of cerebral development ahead of them to overcome it.
I remember, for instance, once that a baby drowned in a river for about half an hour and was dead for well over an hour and when was revived was deemed to suffer no neurological damage.
The Giver was one of the best movies I've ever watched. Such a good story.

I don't think that in concepts like this emotions are truly gone. Because if that was the case people wouldn't have the will to do anything. I think that they're just muted. Like, there's a tingling but its barely there.
That's part of the problem with adapting "the Giver". If they stayed true to the book, most of the movie would be incredibly boring, and monotone.

Except it wouldn't be terrifying, it would be normal. We see it as terrifying from our perspective. You can see how the world they live in actually isn't "bad", because bad as a concept doesn't exist, if you get what I mean. It's what makes it such an interesting book/film. Both the emotional and emotionless people are both right, just driven by different factors.

Equilibrium covered this as well despite being a far more action oriented movie. It's one of the most horrifying yet fascinating ideas of a 'utopian' society. Mass Effect's Mordin Solus puts it best when he talks about how these kinds of societies would be actively anathema to living. Without culture, without new ideas from art and literature and new ideas for interpretation, society is doomed to stagnation. Even Mass Effect's "Geth", entirely Artificial Intelligence synthetic beings are open to new ideas and co-existing with organic beings despite their creators trying to destroy them.
Without new perspectives, without new ways to look through the same lens, we never have new ideas, new inventions, what happens when this 'utopian' society no longer has the means to provide the ingredients for it's emotion-dampening drugs? This is a band-aid on a festering wound that will result in total anarchy eventually, the elders are merely forestalling the inevitable.

Book was eons better. Portrayed the lack of emotions in people far better, and the ending was also much better. The movie felt like it turned into a stereotypical teen drama that completely opposed the book.

The film is also good but the thing is that the book should've never been adapted to film in the first place, it's not the kind of story that would work well if presented as a film, so they probably had no choice but to turn it into a typical "teens in a dystopian world" kind of film
I always interpreted the ending as Jonas finally reaching the border and letting all the memories go as he dies of hypothermia and the sled memory was his first happy memory and that’s why he sees it as he dies. I guess Fiona also dies from being injected despite the memories being released.
The book has sequels. He isn't dead, even if the first book implied it (money offered to write more probably).

World population is nearly 8 billion people. Only 200 years ago, the world population was only 1 billion people. Over 200,000 people are born every single day, and that number is still increasing. The advancement of medicine and the ability to save people from their own weakness will be the downfall of the Earth, as we have way more people on Earth than our planet is capable of supporting. As it stands now, in regards to the resources we use and the ability of the planet to absorb our waste, we are using up about 1.8 Earths worth of the planetary capacity to support life on a daily basis... essentially taking out a "loan" against the world that will never be paid back.
You are right, it is better to know the truth. However, as an individual, it is nearly impossible to make any impact even knowing these truths.

Those needs and desires grow faster than the resources needed to support them because the world no longer has forms of population control, and we are swiftly erasing all forms of natural hazards that traditionally control this. "Only the strong survive" is a phrase often repeated by people like myself for two reasons. One) this is how it has always been since the dawn of time, and Two) this is how it will be when the systems that protect people from themselves collapse. The fall of Rome is not just some historical thing that happened in the past, it is a template of what happens when society collapses. And that template can be applied in nearly all societies of the world. In fact, the United Nations themselves have documented over 195 countries that no longer exist today, and I don't mean from thousands of years ago. Plenty of changes just in the last 100 years.
Only 2 countries in the entire world make up nearly 40% of the entire world population. That's nuts. As those countries grow and are unable to support themselves, they will become more desperate, taking what they cannot make for themselves. The worst of society already do. (Scammers, hackers, thieves of intellectual property... this is only the beginning) Now of course, not all people are inherently bad like that... but what do you think will happen to the rest of the world when smaller countries get to that same point of desperation? If the US gets to this point, we will have worse problems than no toilet paper in the stores, and look at how much of a problem THAT caused by itself. We are all living on a ledge that can collapse at any moment.
If we expand to new planets, we will just strip those planets of their resources as well and move on. That is the only CYCLE we have to look forward to. Human beings are parasites that take everything from their host until nothing remains. The greed of humanity outweighs ALL other wants and desires, and our societies are built around that greed, supporting it and encouraging it. Look at societal support for Big Tech, Big Pharma, and places like Amazon and Google. These corporations control our medicine, our computers, our supplies, and even our knowledge. If that doesn't at least concern you a little bit, then you are likely one of the people who would not be able to survive without them if they collapse.

In the book it was the eyes that symbolizes it. Gabriel had the same eyes and was able to take in memories. What the movie doesn’t show is that when a giver gives a receiver a memory the giver only has a small memory of that memory

If we think about what causes depression and anxiety and how we're all self-medicating now to control these feelings, it's not too far-fetched to think some humans might decide they'd live better lives without them. But I think this shows that our depression and anxiety are feelings we need to process and grow from and not just delete from our existence. It's good that mental health as a whole is becoming more acceptable in society but we need to make sure it doesn't spiral into this kind of dystopian reality.
I think mental health acceptance is very important, however I think this modern world promotes self infantilisation and our social construct has broken the institutions which would have given the tools to understand we are more often frightened than hurt; and suffer more from our own imagination than from reality. Whilst in many important ways those institutions needed cleaning, we threw the baby out with the bath water.
I just hope we can rebuild the concepts fast enough, but the last 4 or so years hasn't proved that to me.
Theres a great difference between sadness and depression, and a normal anxiety and a anxiety that cannot allow to you live. The mental health isn't about being happy, is about accept your emotions, process, and change yours thoughts to avoid maladaptative behaviours (and that's not allow you to enjoy the life as we see in the movie)
When my depression is treated I still get sad and in fact, I am appropriately sad instead of just feeling numb. I don't treat my depression to avoid those feelings, I treat to experience them as they are intended.
That's not how antidepressants work.

Loved this movie. Originally read the book for my english class but was so intrigued I had to see if there was a movie made about it... and there was! Loved how they used monochrome to show the emptiness of the world and introduced color as memories were discovered.

I remember reading this last year and just being amazed at the imagination of the author
If you look at the history of communism in Asia you'll find many similarities. Lowry grew up during the cold war and the height of anti-communist propaganda in America and it certainly shaped her world view. The one-child policy in China has obvious parallels but Pol Pot's regime in Cambodia was major news at the time and included things like mandatory career paths and colorless clothing to avoid class distinction just like the book. There are Evangelical themes as well, in the book at least. I haven't seen the movie and this was just a synopsis so they may have glossed over some of the more subtle details.
Lois Lowry is amazing.

Thank you! For over a decade I was trying to remember this book, The Giver. I always mistook it for Ender's Game. This whole time I thought Ender's Game was my favorite book but it seems it was The Giver. One scene I distinctly remember is the apple. I feel a part of me is no longer missing!

@@gorilladisco9108 Both had a really unique fantasy feel and a strong main character plot. Both books i read a long time ago and they will stick in my heart. Makes sense to me that i will confuse the two after so long.

This movie was a masterpiece the slow introduction of color was well done
I read the book and the way they explained him figuring out colour was really neat

you feel how Jonas feels so much better through his astonishment of color and trying to explain it to the reader but just can't
the revelation of memories, colors, and emotions just make it so much more impactful
what people never know is THIS BOOK IS A SERIES!!!! It has 3 sequls and they are all so interesting and AMAZING! Expecially highly recommend the last one!!! The second one is called Gathering Blue, then Messanger, then Son!!

@@hannahschaaf8018 the next two books, not directly, they are building the universe but you see Gabe and Jonah again, and the 4th book, son which is my favorite, actually starts within the first book and it’s awesome. It all ties together again at the last book for a new story.

Sounds like that Asher guy was a real hero. Even though he's still taking the drugs that nulls emotions, he still managed to do the right thing and not just let his friend go but helped him to get away. Then he straight up lies to his superiors about killing him.
Yea if that drug isn’t strong enough to suppress the love for his friend, I doubt it would be enough to suppress rage at another person or lust to another.
I actually read this book in class about 4 years ago now , I rarely read books but the book gave way more of an explanation then the movie. Some things are off or left out but other then that the movie just gives u a break from having to read the book

I read this book and watched the movie! They were both really good tbh, although I prefer the movies ending as I’m not that big of a fan of open endings and prefer ones where you know if there is a happy or sad ending, not an ending that can be interpreted as many different things. That’s just my personal opinion tho, and other than that I basically liked them an equal amount.

I read this book in seventh grade, and this message stuck with me ever since.
I still remember this movie, I once watch this when I was a kid. Its great to watch it again
I like the fact that a movie, that has a story about having no emotions, is trying to convey emotions in its characters, and yet fails at it.
Pain gives happiness meaning. It reminds us of how great the opposite feeling feels. It's meaningful and essential for the greatest joys we can experience

The Giver is not only a *stunning* book, but an even better film adaptation, Lois lowery is one of my favorite authors and this book is such an amazing dystopian type movie and book, there are very few books ill ever actually read, but the giver is a fantastic book that really makes you question if what we have today is so bad, truly a remarkable book that im currently reading for the umpteenth time, i *highly* recommend it, reading it really makes the hairs on your neck stand up
I don’t care what people say, I like this movie. It’s more accurate to the book than other adaptations and even the things it changes are still done well.
