    This movie itself is a genuine masterpiece: Talks about existentialism, the idea of self, what it means to exist, and identity. It shows that being human requires more heart and the ability to love is more than enough to consider your true self. A beautiful story well told, ahead of its time.

      @@hacked2813 you see, we are doing our own job by creating robots. Because, robots have no free will yet so they are “tools” is like telling someone using a hammer to make a house that he isn’t doing the house himself but the hammer is making the job for him. So robots until they get actually free will, they are tools that can and will be used by humans. :D pd: if u have any problem understanding let me know, English isn’t my first language.

      @Gnomelander1400 3 года назад +7

      @@hacked2813 the first fallacy of your comment is 1. that will slow the progression of humanity and technology. Robots are totally ok, they can’t feel emotion, they’re not conscious or anything. AI is the real deal, we shouldn’t let them get their hands on machines and robots. 2. Telling people we shouldn’t create robot to do stuff is like telling people we shouldn’t drive and should just walk on the ground or that we shouldn’t cook food using pots and pans but instead the ground. That logic is so irrational. The third fallacy is that humans are ever so limited to the body. Sure we can enhance ourself biologically through modifications but that require thousands of hours of research. By your logic, we shouldn’t use anything in-organic and that is totally stupid and irrational again. Though I do agree that technology is progressing faster than the human mind can keep up with.. but hey.. we have to do anything to survive and thrive, nature isn’t so kind to everyone as seen through history.

      Bicentenial Man movie is an Asimov novel adaptation. Nowadays can be considered very old(literally, past Millenium old) and of a time people were at least somewhat more pure in intentions and worldview. They dreamed of a better tommorow(ofc they were also living in a world and a society that while having drawbacks, allowed the futurists to dream a better tommorow - and why not, co-existance for man and machine, on a friendly based level). Ofcourse most of Asimov's work(with few exceptions) is like that, even in the most difficult situations, there is always a window and a glimpse of hope.

Like a decade ago it was funny like how The Jetsons was set in the far-off year of 2002, when movies and shows do it now it's just depressing, potentially terrifying and unnerving, and possibly increasing becoming unrealistic or worse as becoming very realistic but not for good reasons.

    This was such a beautiful movie. It's something I never watched growing up for some reason and decided to watch it only a few months ago.
    I was absolutely blown away, such an emotional ride and an amazing story, if you didnt cry you have no soul.
    This is a movie I will never forget and I think everyone should see. Ity covers everything from what it means to be a person, to love someone, family, sacrifice, everything.

      Immortality and eternal youth are not the same. Both combined may sound enticing but our sense of self demands some kind of evolution over a lifetime. That is also portrayed in some incarnations of the modern vampire mythos. A mortal soul in an immortal body is doomed to succumb to madness.
      Wouldn't you be jealous of immortals if they existed?

    I would argue with your assessment that he asks Rupert to help create the synthetic organs to become more human. He makes them more than that in order for humans to become more like him. With organs that do not fail with age. So he no longer has to experience the ones he is emotionally close to "leaving" of old age. He now sees that his immortality is a curse more than a blessing. He tries to make humans as close to immortal as he can.

      That is an interesting take on the story. Andrew changed the social norm in order for people to live longer like him. His wife was born to the old ways a wished to die after a normal life span not realizing she could live centuries longer becoming the new norm.
