    Vincent has always fantasized about traveling into outer space, but is grounded by his status as a genetically inferior "in-valid." He decides to fight his fate by purchasing the genes of Jerome, a laboratory-engineered "valid." He assumes Jerome's DNA identity and joins the space program, where he falls in love with Irene. An investigation into the death of a officer complicates Vincent's plans.

    The thing I loved about this film was the theme that people can overcome their physical limitations through strength of will. Vincent's life was a constant struggle, he always had to give it his all. When he was on the treadmill and his body was failing, he could push through and give the appearance it was easy. It was the strength of his willpower that allowed him to beat Anton while swimming. Also, because Anton was never pushed to his physical limits, he panicked when he became fatigued from swimming too far having never faced the physical adversity Vincent had been dealing with his whole life.

    • @ImperativeGames
      @ImperativeGames 3 года назад +27

      Yes, real strength is in the character.
      Also, I get it with all the physcal stuff, but intelligence? I'm pretty sure you can have good genes and grow up dumb as log. A lot of children of famous scientists, politicians, etc grew up stupid. And vice versa, you can always study hard and become 1) somewhat "smarter" (IQ) 2) a good specialist in some field.
      So, not hiring people for positions where intelligence, skills and knowledge are demanded solely because of their genes is... retarded ^^
      -
      Unless we are speaking of hardcore genetic diseases or some trauma intelligence is what you create during childhood, when teaching kids to think.

It doesn't mean you will exactly inherit the hair color of your parents. But it does increase the likelihood exponentially. And intelligence cannot be increased but knowledge and skills can be. But your raw intelligence essentially limits the extent to which you can increase your knowledge. Like you can increase your speed if your run regularly, but you'll never be Usain bolt if you weren't born with those genes.

      @@hambone4984 We can agree to disagree. I personally think without including that line it only seems as if Vincent never gave up. But if the uploader included that line, then the viewers see it in a more gloomy way, Vincent only having gotten to this point because he never cared about making it back home, him being okay with his death as long as he achieves his goal. If he mentioned that quote during their last beach scene with both brothers, the viewers would have seen it as “Vincent is willing to die if it means he succeeds, he doesn’t care about saving enough energy to get back to the beach, he only wants to keep going in hopes of reaching the other side. He was not limited by his will to live as others were, because he didn’t care if completing his goal would kill him.
      TL;DR: Without quote, Vincent’s story is happy. With quote, Vincent’s story is gloomy as he is not limited by his will to live like others were, he doesn’t care if completing his goal kills him.

When Jerome has to crawl up the stairs, when you find out Anton is the detective, when Vincent and Jerome swim against each other for the last time, and when the Doctor reveals that he's known Vincent is faking all along and changes the test results. The thing that got me with this movie was when the doctor said to the doctor that his second son was still part of him. This summary is wrong. They don't engineer babies or alter genes in this movie. They fertilize a bunch of zygotes in vitro and then screen them for undesirable traits leaving only the best. The doctor flat out states that he "went ahead and screening out" the traits he listed. The doctor later says "Keep in mind this child is still you; simply the best of you". This movie is about controlled selection instead of leaving it up to chance; not genetic engineering.

    Ever since I found this channel, I hoped you already or were about to cover this movie. Never saw the end in school but now I can finally finish it!

    I remember a teacher played this movie one the last day of class. I didn’t get to finish it but was damn intriguing
