It's just saying stuff because it makes you feel good to say even if they can't hear.
I have ADHD and social anxiety when I was younger it was easier to just tell people that I was deaf in one ear so they’d wouldn’t get annoyed when asked them to repeat multiple times. I took to wearing my headphones in one ear to keep up the act and remember which ear I was suppose to be deaf in. The sh*t people say when they don’t know you can hear them is enough to make you lose faith in humanity.
I went to a whole day without saying anything to anyone one time when I was in middle school cause someone was telling me about the details one picks up when their mindset isn’t also focused on speaking and let me tell you something I learned a lot that day about people. It’s actually surprisingly peaceful when you know you don’t need to say anything and wait for a response good or bad. I tried doing it again as that day I was fortunate enough to not have been called by the teacher and nobody spoke to me and when the few did I just carried a little sticky note that said I can’t speak and showed it to them.
Every girl I know keeps pads or tampons in their bag all the time, even if she was pregnant it would be silly to assume that she wasn’t just because she hadn’t taken them out?
When I first watched this movie and Conner called Dot out I was like wtf, he's the one who told her all those random weird things. Just because you thought she was deaf doesn't mean you had the right to be so blatantly creepy.
I think this was intentional so he could say all those nasty things to her without consequence then play the victim when she could actually speak. I wish he got comeuppance like the dad.
It's funny how he blames her for violating his trust by hearing his Dirty Secrets but why was he telling this to her just because he thought she was deaf that's his own stupid fault
In his own bizarre way, Connor must’ve thought he was unburdening himself, in effect confessing his sins, even though he thought Dot was deaf, thus allowing him to walk around with a clear conscience.
if he actually needs to say it out loud, he should say it alone to himself, if he needs a face to talk to, go to a mirror. either way he stupid a creepy af@@vinceventresca6763
Deaf girl 'speaks': omg she isn't deaf?! Newly pregnant teen (who's supposedly is getting an abortion) still has tampons in her purse: omg she's not actually pregnant! Guy talks about his private shit to a deaf girl assuming she doesn't read lips, IN PUBLIC: omg you didn't respect my privacy! Who fucking wrote this movie?
25% of pregnant women still get their periods. And it doesn't just abruptly stop right after becoming pregnant. It will continue for about another month or so. The menstrual cycle usually stops on the third month of pregnancy.
...You also realize that real people say things like that and are ignorant, and also pieces of shit If anything, that makes the writing even more realistic I think you're missing the point of the movie being one of how people take advantage of what they think they can get away with
Many people have reasons to not speak, and no one owes lending their ears to strangers. Dot has a reason for her silence and her introduction to her new family would make plenty of people become reclusive. Being silent and listening to others around you makes you realize who people really are and what their true colors are when they think you can't hear them.
Yeah, it escalated very quickly after the "deaf" girl randomly took her top off. 🙄 If this had been one of those Chinese / Korean movies, it would have gone very differently 😅.
imagine pretending to be deaf and someone becomes stupid enough to whisper their gmail password to your ear realizing their mistake how did this get so many likes
Or the password that he uses for EVERYTHING? Gmail, bank account, RUclips, wikis, forums, streaming services, he has the habit of reusing the same code and he tells a girl he thinks couldn't hear his one password to all accounts?
I’m glad you threw that in at the end because I was thinking that!! If you explain to police what actually happened, the teenager defending her sister wouldn’t get any prison time, nor would anyone else
That's just asking to have a deeper investigation. In murder cases, the police are allowed to use just about all resources they possess to figure out the case. Autopsy shows it was a piano wire, fingerprint/DNA evidence proves it was Dot, and even faking it they'll still figure out she's the only one that touched the piano cover in the recent past in the first place. The mom could maybe try to implicate herself by forging evidence, but that defeats the purpose anyway. And even if the police can't figure out the real killer, them all confessing makes all three of them an accomplice anyway.
The whole town would know the father was rapping her and although she's innocent, the shame would be too much to bear and you know how people are, they would say she enjoyed it because she was older and could have told. They won't get, hes been doing that and messed up her mind.
@@chaellExE I think it was maybe because they were teens and also in shock so they weren't in the best state of mind to make a heavy decision or form a plan
I feel like her not being deaf is kinda pointless from a story telling perspective. Just because she wouldn't be able to hear doesn't mean she isn't also able to fully know what's going on based on reading lips and body language.
100% agree. It also wouldn't be weird that she can talk. For majority of people who are deaf it's a choice whether or not they speak. Many don't because they sign, dont take speech lessons, or don't like that they have a accented voice. Others because they simply don't want to (which is 100% valid btw). So in the scene when Nina freaked out that Dot sweared I thought that was silly.
Why the hell did Conner feel betrayed on knowing that Dot wasn't a deaf, he was an idiot to share his dirty secrets with, even if the person is deaf or mute
I just wanna say finding a tampon in a girls purse is not good evidence. She was obviously having periods before she was "pregnant" unless there was a legit reason to remove it from her purse like her purse being too cluttered a tampon would still be in a pregnant womans purse.
Especially if it was only six weeks, one could think the period was late. Or you can have cases like mine where my periods take vacation for a few months at a time before returning with vengeance.
"Your not pregnant you still have tampons in your bag!" WTF girls carry tampons/pads around constantly, we have this thing called FRIENDS who may need them.
I had a partial hysterectomy when I was still pretty young and never got my period again, I still kept a few in my purse for any emergencies my friends might have.
I have learned a lot of things from this movie... One of them is " People always talk about the quiet before the storm, but no one talks about the quiet after "😄😄😄❤️❤️ . spread the love, not the hate. peace ❤️❤️
i don't get it, to be honest. When Connor blames Dot for invading in his privacy, it wasn't even her fault, because he was the one who told her everything. He calls it privacy, but he's the one invading hers and he blames her for him telling her everything? He should just go to a therapist if he needs someone to talk to without them "invading" his "privacy".
It was her fault, because if she can actually hear (or even if she could read lips), she should have immediately started reacting after the first sentence. Not doing so is clearly encouraging the misunderstanding on purpose and thus dishonest/lying. I'm not saying it should be treated like the end of the world or anything, but it WAS her fault. "he's the one invading hers" Uh what? How? When?
@@gavinjenkins899 there's a reason she kept the fact that she could hear a secret. So technically, she's been lying the whole movie (which is true and part of the plot). He IS invading hers, because no one told him to take advantage that she's deaf to be doing all that, even if she was lying. What do you think she was supposed to do: Reveal her secret to someone who has nothing to do with her? If you were in her situation and you were also pretending to be deaf, how would you have gotten out of the situation? Also, not all deaf people know how to lip sync. She can't just outright reveal her secret to him, just because he was stupid enough to do what he did.
@@juliamagicals7218 "What do you think she was supposed to do: Reveal her secret to someone who has nothing to do with her?" YES, you should "reveal your secret" to EVERYONE by not being a pathological liar in the first place, of course. @@gavinjenkins899 Well, I apologize that I'm thinking about this from another perspective. (Although I can't remember this movie much anymore) I get that it was wrong of her to pretend to be deaf this whole time, but there must've been a good reason. It wasn't about being a pathological liar. Although your argument is indeed commendable, I don't fully agree with what you're saying. Not all people have the same opinion. But you do gain your points by what you said: I agree that you think she's a pathological liar and that you're a better person than her, but can I just say one thing? NO HUMAN IS PERFECT. Some are indeed better than others, that's very true, but humans are very affected by their environment. If she wasn't influenced by her backstory and some outside forces, she wouldn't have had to pretend to be deaf. I get that my argument right now might not make any sense to me in the farther future, because I'm still just a 17-year-old person who has never been out into the world yet, but this is just how I feel about it. Anyway, this is just a movie, and I only stated my opinion, and I get that you might agree with me, and that's completely fine with me because you also make sense of what you say. Not all people have the same opinions. We both seem to be looking at this from completely different perspectives, and I like the way you're thinking, it really does make sense. I tend to go a little haywire when I'm really emotional, so I do apologize if I went over the top. Anyway, it's just a movie and now that I completely forgot about it, I don't really care anymore about anything I commented or said, because in the future, if I ever go back to them, I know that they probably won't make any sense and be written in the heat of the moment. But I do still believe that although yes, she should've revealed her secret to everyone, she must've had her reasons. Since none of us are perfect anyways, no one should really judge other people for what they did wrong or right. Sometimes people don't have a choice and sometimes people are too scared to let it out, and I'm not talking about the movie at this rate, I'm talking about real life.
It’s devastating to think about this actually happening to people. Maybe not the same exact circumstances, but kids whose parent(s) die and have to live with a family where they’re treated like shit whether by one person or the whole family, it’s just horrible to think about.
7:47 "Paul is horrified of fathering his own grandchild." LMFAO! Something about him being so shocked and disgusted at a very real risk coming true in this equally disturbing and disgusting situation is just gold to me. What makes it even funnier is that she JUST supposedly got pregnant. But because the tampons just didn't magically evaporate from her personal inventory and from her purse (a normal mainstay item in many women's purses for themselves and other women potentially) immediately after the news, that just makes him lose it. Righteously holding up his "proof" of the so-called airtight, incriminating tampons. He's so concerned about tampons, he should have been concerned about condoms if he was so scared of fathering his own grandchild. I know darn well going by his reaction there was no protection going on. Oh, screwing around with his underaged daughter is just fine, but fathering a child by her is just too much. Did he forget where babies come from? Was he just so slow on the fact that nature doesn't give a single rat's hiney about whose fertile human sperm and egg belongs to who? Paul deserved everything he got for gr@ping his daughter, putting her and his family through all that mess.....and for being very, very, very dumb.
He shouldn't have had to be concerned about condoms because he shouldn't have gone anywhere near his daughter in the first place. Even entertaining such thoughts is absolutely disgusting and already a step too far🤢🤢
@Alexa the mom was absolutely at fault. If you know about something scummy your husband is doing, to his own daughter and do nothing? She's not at fault?
@Alexa She was a victim in her own way, but it's still a parent's responsibility to protect their child. I feel bad for her, but she stood by and did nothing. Olivia was a miserable and heartbreaking person. At least she made herself worth being a mom in the last moment when she saved her 2 girls from prison…. Also the relationship between the two sisters was so bittersweet, I have 3 older sisters myself and let me tell you, they’d do ANYTHING for me and their families.
I remember one of my friends in High school, moved to US then told how badly he was bullied, he ate lunch in the bathroom stall. It went for how many months, then coz he was the smartest in the class, he exelled too much to overcome his bullies till he graduated at the top of his class. I guess his bullies were just empty headed bastards! 😒
I genuinely think the mom probably needed/deserved that prison sentence just to clear her guilty conscience. She did nothing. For years. Just seemed jealous that he didn't want her anymore. In my opinion.
I think bullies ought to be severely punished for their behavior. There is no call to act like that. They should spend some time in jail & b kicked out of school. Shame on anyone who let's this happen, knowingly or unknowingly. Nobody deserves to be bullied. Those who do are pathetic cowards!

Even if you're deaf you can feel vibrations from a piano. But... with the amount of brain power her sister has, it would make sense she wouldn't come to that conclusion
Her sister reacted to her speaking/swearing, not to the concept of her playing the piano. She had made everyone believe she was mute, and then she wasn't mute, so she gave away that she'd been lying.

When her parents said "ignore the bullies" she took it to the next level
absolutely
I have ADHD and social anxiety when I was younger it was easier to just tell people that I was deaf in one ear so they’d wouldn’t get annoyed when asked them to repeat multiple times. I took to wearing my headphones in one ear to keep up the act and remember which ear I was suppose to be deaf in. The sh*t people say when they don’t know you can hear them is enough to make you lose faith in humanity.
Some humans just shouldn't have the privilege of being born 🤷
I went to a whole day without saying anything to anyone one time when I was in middle school cause someone was telling me about the details one picks up when their mindset isn’t also focused on speaking and let me tell you something I learned a lot that day about people. It’s actually surprisingly peaceful when you know you don’t need to say anything and wait for a response good or bad. I tried doing it again as that day I was fortunate enough to not have been called by the teacher and nobody spoke to me and when the few did I just carried a little sticky note that said I can’t speak and showed it to them.

Someone that doesn't know anything about deafness
Or pregnancy
25% of pregnant women still get their periods.
And it doesn't just abruptly stop right after becoming pregnant. It will continue for about another month or so. The menstrual cycle usually stops on the third month of pregnancy.
...You also realize that real people say things like that and are ignorant, and also pieces of shit
If anything, that makes the writing even more realistic

@@bellebonebag8096 you're wrong
Many people have reasons to not speak, and no one owes lending their ears to strangers. Dot has a reason for her silence and her introduction to her new family would make plenty of people become reclusive. Being silent and listening to others around you makes you realize who people really are and what their true colors are when they think you can't hear them.
This is exactly why I'm always quiet in school and prefer to speak with my close friends and others I feel comfortable with.

I loved Dot's decision making without any hesitation !
I’m glad you threw that in at the end because I was thinking that!! If you explain to police what actually happened, the teenager defending her sister wouldn’t get any prison time, nor would anyone else
All three should have confessed the murder individually. There might not be a conviction as a consequence.
Or they could've told the truth that the father r*ped her daughter. There could be an examination with the gynecologist to examine her for proof
@@jelo0606 which would make it a case of self defense and with the fact that they are teens would've severely decreased the sentence.
The whole town would know the father was rapping her and although she's innocent, the shame would be too much to bear and you know how people are, they would say she enjoyed it because she was older and could have told. They won't get, hes been doing that and messed up her mind.

Facts

Tampon pads is a must in your bag especially if a friend need some

i don't get it, to be honest.
He would just incidentally be included among "everyone"
"If you were in her situation" But I wouldn't be in her situation, because I'm a better person than that and am not a pathological liar. I respect my community which requires that I don't lie to all of them every day and betray all their trust and waste all their time.
Your reasoning for how he was "invading her privacy": I have no response, because it was complete word salad. I don't know what the heck you were trying to say or argue there.
I appreciate your empathy. I, unfortunately, am one of those people.
7:47 "Paul is horrified of fathering his own grandchild."
LMFAO!

The punishment would not have been less severe. The mom needed time to heal from what she had done. It was her fault after all.
She didn't speak to her daughter, try to get her out of the house, call the police, run away, or stand up to the husband.
