WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF DOING PLANKS?
Plank position is a simple, yet effective, exercise that is quick and easy to do, engages multiple muscle groups, and brings great benefits.
If you regularly do planks, you’ll benefit from strengthening your abdominal muscles for a toned belly, flat stomach, six-pack abs and a stronger inner core.
With proper form, you’ll find that planks strengthen your back muscles to build a stronger core to get rid of back pain and help with better posture.
Planks also help you increase your flexibility, balance, and muscle endurance.
WHAT MUSCLES ARE USED IN PLANK POSITION?
When you are performing planks, you are engaging many muscle groups throughout your entire body including your back, chest, shoulders, arms, abs, butt, legs and neck.
Plank position also works muscles around your shoulders, collarbone, shoulder blades, hamstrings and even the arches of your feet.
HOW OFTEN SHOULD I DO PLANK POSITION?
Plank position is a great core and ab workout. If your goal is to get a six-pack, plank position is a beneficial exercise that will get you an incredible, sculpted midsection.
Plan on including an ab workout, such as planks, about 2-3 times per week. When you choose exercises for your ab workout routine, choose a variety of core exercises to work your abs, not just crunches and planks.
Now to the workout. All you need is a stopwatch and a little space. We’re going to be switching up primarily between straight planks and side planks; try to keep your body up the whole time (don’t ever let it relax - just go straight in to the next exercise).
    Straight Plank
    Pike Plank
    Side Plank Left
    Side Plank Right
    Spiderman Plank
    Up-Down Plank
    Side Plank Left
    Side Plank Right

My favorite plank is up and down. The side plank is the most difficult one as my arm is hurt. Anyway, this workout is great. I've just started it since yesterday. Will do it every morning.

My favorite is ANY plank! 2 weeks ago I could not hold a plank for even a second, I'm not kidding.. Now I can hold it for about 2 minutes! I had to pause the video a few times but I'm just SO happy that I've gained so much strength in the past couple of weeks! Side planks are the hardest for me, but I'm gonna keep trying. Thank you for the video!

At the beginning of lockdown, in a particularly over-ambitious moment, I attempted this video. I couldn't complete it and ended up in no small amount of pain. I went back to basics. I did various core workouts and downloaded a plank challenge from the app store which worked me up to the point I could hold one for four minutes. I can now complete all eight minutes of this workout non-stop. I'm absolutely convinced that if an idiot like me can do this workout then anyone else can. A bit of persistence is all that's required.

I’ve never felt inclined to submit a comment for any RUclips video prior to this. From years of running, my pelvis/hips/back became such an acute problem I wasn’t able to walk upright for about two hours upon awakening. After two weeks of this workout, the pain (and subsequent anxiety from feeling like I was pushing 100 years old) soon literally vanished. I’ve been doing this routine daily ever since (going on two months). I can see a major difference in my abs, too. On a few occasions I’ve doubled up for 16 mins. Complete game changer. Whereas before I never bought into core work, I’m now completely sold on benefits of core health. Quite honestly, I feel guilty for being about to learn about this workout for free!

@@toneandtighten This is interesting....in one way, it's getting more difficult, because as my technique improves, I'm hitting the muscles harder, & they're getting more fatigued than before--in a way, although they're also getting stronger, so..it's a bit of a trade off. Also too, I as well really like the side plank--I think that might be the best of the planks(although the spiderman & the up/down are also very good), & I like to lean back a bit with them to hit the lats more.

@@toneandtighten Whoo hoo! I just CRUSHED it! I've still been doing the workout, not always able to do the full 8 minutes, but today was by far the best, easiest, 8 minutes to date-hardly broke a sweat! If I can get to the point of doing this consistently, I'll add more time, or put a few lbs. in a pack & wear it, or something. I'm not naive enough to think it will suddenly be "easy" everyday, this was just one of those days in which the body performed well, but it ain't everyday that happens, as we all know! Covid-19 fitness at it's best! The nation, & the world for that matter, would do so well to take this ample amount of time so many of us temporarily have to GET FIT!

    • @Geo35z

chris smith I’ve found through fitness the easier it gets the worse it is. As I don’t want my body to adapt to any exercise I do, I need it to be hard on me every time. As when it gets easier my body starts thinking “right we know his gonna do his abs today at some point let’s regulate and get ready for that” so increasing the time like you said or making it a bit harder when it’s sort of getting easy is the best thing I found.

Doing this at 10:00 am so I can eat 2 hours after and not right after
Day 1:✅(did as much as I could today but didn’t want to alert my family with heavy breathing but I know I’ll get stronger every time I’ll do this doing this twice a day just in case one day I only do it once)
Dat 2:✅ ( it’s really difficult and my RUclips stopped working mid workout so I gave my self a small break but I feel stronger today)
Day 3:✅(gotten a tiny bit easier but the side plank is the one I struggle with the most because I’m very bad at balancing on anything so I’ve fallen over at least every time I do the plank)

Or would you regularly lift and shake your arm slightly at intervals for the duration of the exercise? (Assuming you maintain good form)
