I really wonder where this issue with "interruption" comes from. Like in a debate if two cognitively gifted people it's not an issue to stop somebody half way and pick it up later. In my experience it's a marker of low IQ in the part of the person who obsessively needs everyone to speak the same amount
@@petergriffin4629it really is, I see it as not being able to recognize the respect aspect of letting the other side finish what they’re saying. nothing complex about it and I’m not sure how Dr. Peterson doesn’t pick up on it
@OnlyCerna but why is it necessary to finish? In my experience when you wind up in high energy situations with smart people, almost noone finished anything, because it's not necessary
I always love hearing other mens stories about what/how they feel different after nofap/rebooting. Could you let us know whats changed in your life? thanks.
I feel like everyone who says they stopped had a addiction. What about "regular" people, are you one of those? I watch it once a day and tbf clearly uses it as a dopamine gain so im not trying to justify it but I dont think we should shame people for it unless youre really struggling. The industry itself is another topic for someone who want to go down the shaming route. Also people often seem to confuse not masturbating with not watching porn.
@@xd-bt3xs Try quitting and see if you have an addiction. You may not think it is harmful, but you do not know the person you could be without it. I guarantee you would be a better person
@@henryschmid2808 Ive actually tried quitting for two weeks. That’s long enough I feel after literally watching every day for years. I stopped watching it after being depressed with my dating life and started feeling pathetic watching porn. However I didn’t notice any benefits by staying off but neither did I have the urge to watch it. If someone heard me say I watch it everyday they would most likely say I’m addicted right? But if someone was truly addicted they would have a hard time stopping, same goes for caffeine. Can stop whenever I want to, however I don’t really want to because it’s literally a source of dopamine and makes every day a little more enjoyable. So yea we shouldn’t be shaming porn but discuss the good and the ugly. It’s a rabbit hole for sure for how deep you want to go in that discussion on how it affects society etc. But for me personally I feel like there are far too many that advocates porn only to be negative. Seeing that so many struggle with a pornaddiction intrigues me and really wouldn’t say I’m addicted myself how bad that may sound.
So recently I have started to do this thing whenever I have an urge I straight up wear my running shoes and go out to run 5 kms! This actually gives me more dopamine to settle my nerves and also I manage to calm my brain in a way…. But I know it is not always possible so I am also looking into some high dopamine exercises that could odd the thing
Yes. If we are not careful dopamin will trick us into a miserable life. I’ve done some fasting. And. Fasting is an absolute brutal war on dopamine center. It’s absolutely depleted during extended fasts. Did 100 hours. And you become in control of all your urges. :)
Why doesn't anyone talk about one major side effect of watching porn for years: the damage to the brain and the loss of concentration and memory. Sexual dysfunction and the other side effects are bad as well but this is a major and serious thing that everyone just seems to ignore
exactly. In my experiences I even had suicidal thoughts in 2 days after pmo, an acute anxiety attacking me that i felt so alert. Even now I'm not severely addicted like few years ago, my trauma about pmo is still there and I still fear the ejaculation which is not so good actually. But yes, the damage from porn is quite severe to me personally
This right there. At first I didn't know what is happening, I wanted to get my brain checked how much it impacted my memory and concentration, didn't make the connection at first, but realized very quickly it's the culprit. That was a real wake up call that this shit is truly nothing but a poison. Now I'm clean and feel like a changed man.
It is up to the parent(s) or guardian(s) to make sure the child/children do not access porn. DO NOT make government get it's hands into another part of life. It isn't that big of a problem. There are a lot of other things that are just as bad if not worse. Video gaming is one of those things and I can personally say that with confidence. All you can and should do is what these two guys just did. Talk about it and anyone interested can listen. We DO NOT need to police everything out there.
I had and I still have some problems in life which base is pornography and masturbation, such as motivation, laziness, confidence with girls, I didn't even had to find girlfriend for myself because I learned my brain that porn is just enough for me, and 4 years after last relationship I felt so alone, worthless, I couldn't find anything to make me happy, left the university because of that, I just felt so lost. But after some time, just random day a 2.5 months ago I woke up and choose to re-puzzle myself, and then I found this channel that has helped me a lot mentally to transform my inner self. So after 9 years of constantly destroying myself, I went on a new trip, and I failed. Then I realised that streak of nofap is not too much important, but rather the clean mind and not feel the urge to do that. Got 3 times to 5 6 days and went back to 0 and felt so bad because of that. Brain just started to learn a new ways to pleasure itself, and after a few very hard times to abstinate and failed, I am now at 20th day and not even feel the urge for that and honestly I feel so much powerful than before even starting all this. Don't count days, let days count you.
I've been addicted to both alcohol and porn. Porn, by far, has been harder to quit and is something that I keep going to even though alcohol has been a problem for me also. The craving for looking at porn is stronger than the craving for alcohol. I even had to set up internet filters to keep myself from watching it.
Man I’m all for freedom, but porn must be regulated. There should NEED to be certain precautions taken to make certain the viewer is 18+. Im 26 and damn certain my kids will not have unlimited internet access. I’m lucky at my age I viewed it but realized early on how strong of a stimulus it is.
It's the same as any other addiction, no matter in which form it comes. Try to phrase it differently, you don't get addicted rather you program your body. So stop doing it and body will find something else as that is how it works, it adapts. If you do it constantly, you encourage your body to want more and put it at the top of a mountain of pleasure based on the amount of dopamine that you get from it so just learn to understand that it is not necessarily an enemy, but rather just an order that you set and that your body follows unless you flip the switch and guide it to something different.
Serious comment here: listening to music always spikes my dopamine greatly and is enthralling. Any comments on that? Obviously, we have to balance life and fulfill our responsibilities, however, there is little more satisfying to me than the musical experience. Oh, listening to Doctors Peterson or Huberman always spikes my dopamine as well. Thank you for all you do and God bless!
I can relate. Everything that's fun will spike your dopamine and in my opinion that's fine. You will develop a desire to further engage in that action ("addiction"/"compulsion"), but if the action isn't harmful there's nothing wrong with being addicted to it, though the word has a negative connotation. I know most drugs and hyperpalatable food is harmful so you don't want to get addicted to those, but I haven't heard of any negative effects of music, so it's fine to be addicted to it IMO. Educational podcasts same thing - they're beneficial instead of harmful so it's fine, even good to be addicted to those. As for the concern of desensitizing yourself to pleasure, what's the point of having a hypersensitive pleasure system if you never stimulate it? If you want to live hedonically as I do, doing pleasurable (but not harmful) things is the best way to go about that, even though the pleasure is partly (not fully, unless neurotoxic doses of stimulants) "canceled out" via desensitization/tolerance to future pleasures. Enjoy! I cut music out of my life for a short while because I thought "dopamine spikes=bad, addiction=bad", but it worsened my quality of life.
To me music is so important that I let it be my dopamine high with a lower baseline. I feel like music is so human that it would be a shame not to listen to it. The problem (if you've seen the practical episode on dopamine) is layering it on top of other dopamine releasing activities.
Timestamps 00:08 - The discussion on pornography relates to human instincts and compulsions. 01:59 - Dopamine release in addiction enhances behavior towards specific stimuli. 03:51 - Pornography acts as a super stimulus, especially affecting young males. 05:44 - Processed foods disrupt the brain's ability to gauge satiety. 07:31 - Gut neurons signal nutrient needs independently of taste. 09:04 - The discussion connects dopamine spikes from food and pornography to evolutionary reproduction. 10:51 - Novelty and repetition in pornography affects pleasure and addiction. 12:35 - Pornography affects real-life sexual relationships and dopamine response.
100% agree with the last point about the steak. Another example of this that I've seen is when you enjoy a black coffee or just milk as opposed to when you take it with sugar. Many people take their coffee with sugar and milk and say I can never stop it just taste too good but once you let it go it's not a big deal anymore.
How your diet affects taste is quite interesting. I have removed a lot of processed food, sugar and salt from my diet and I can say with certainty that I taste things more clearly. After some time your brain will rewire its connections between taste and the nutrients in your food to such a degree that unhealthy things will start to taste bad. I would guess that this increased sensitivity for what's in your food is due to attenuation of the signals in your dopamine pathways related to food and perhaps a strengthening of the signals your taste receptors generate when coming in contact with the nutrients in the food. If you find it hard to eat clean you can think of this as motivation: The longer you eat good clean food, the more bad food is going to taste bad and good food taste good. You would be returning your sense of taste to its original function; you would be letting your sense of taste guide you to what's good for you.
Ive always been more concerned about the mental health aspects than to how it relates to sex performance in reality... I started way before losing my virginity and it did nothing in terms of my expectations / behaviour. Annoying how conversations always regard the latter in this subject.
Very glad to see someone mentioned this. I think it's just a 'right wing allegiance' recital, it's not an effort to establish a core issue and it's solution. I don't mean to bring politics into it and I'm no leftie myself but you'll always see that exact line recited by people you can pin on the right of things. In my experience, I've been addicted and sometimes very badly but never to the point of doing it more than once a day. But it has never impeded my rendezvous experiences and I'm having quite a satisfying intimate life. Its up to the individual to set their expectations and observe their behaviour. Personal responsibility and all that.
@@Kuk0san I feel similarly myself... have been doing it for over a decade religiously before meeting someone and I knew it was a performance and not to be expected IRL. I've always felt like it's something I didn't want to do in an ideal situation but I end up returning to it. Wouldn't say I'm addicted because it doesn't affect my ability to function in life and I was able to stop easily when I was in my relationship; but nonetheless, it's something I personally don't really agree with doing. I would hope if there were any threat to other aspects of my health, I would be able to stop however...
I managed to quit nicotine, alcohol and sugar. have tried to quit porn for 5 years, never succeeded to quit porn. I'm a hardcore porn addict and have been it since i was 13 years old, now i am 30...
What have you tried? There are tests that recommend that one counters his lust with something spiritual or a simplistic workout. Such as getting the lust urge, and telling yourself that this act is immoral and then doing an act of prayer and change the thought in your brain while it is happening. The goal is to not be hyper focused on the lust while it is there. Something physical would be a simple workout, like getting down and doing 20 pushups and doing it again.
It can be an excuse though. It's a phase you can go through and it might just be at the worst one day and you'll be better the day after, but you won't find out if you don't push through
We should also be talking about tangible barriers here. For instance, the variable which impacts the most on suicide rates are physical barriers that prevent the act of suicide, epidemiologically. In this context, the porn addict should be encourajed to plan a busy day filled with activities. One who works hard all day has no time nor energy to masturbate frequently. A busy mind focused on productive things acts as a physical barrier to the habit.
"and we have no idea what effect pornography has on the development of male sexuality, none" this one single statement in itself is already terrifying to think about
If only people would understand this. If only they listened and understood. This is behavioralism, the training of your brain towards certain goals. In the end, the cycle of addiction.
I quit the habit of porn 6 years ago. super thankful to God I did ... the book that helped me a ton is called your brain on porn by Gary Keller, an absolute must read to scare you from watching it. the specific group of people that make porn sites available do it so they can harvest more financial resources from you
I think we're living in a time now where we're just beginning to understand how porn viewing has affected and is affecting our brains. Especially when we talk about porn addiction and the effects it has on a person's life. Time will tell. Now that AI has come into the picture, it doesn't look good. Not at all. Interesting video and a subject that is thankfully being talked about more and more.
Porn addiction wears off as you age, trust me, if tugged away to it for years and now in my 50's I can't be bothered. My friends are losing the urge too. But if a real woman was interested the urges light up again.
Bravo to both of you we must talk more about subjects like these especially nowdays that porn sites are everywhere or everything is oversexualised and used for marketing even. I am a porn addict 3 months in recovery right now symptoms are very brutal and although I hear a lot of people talk about drugs or allcohol which are very important also and more dangerous still we do have a ton of stories, documentaries, podcasts, books and movies about these specific addictions. While porn addiction which is becoming a more prevalent problem nowdays is staying in the dark.
I feel it's the other way around. No self abuse or porn would give a good sex life with your spouse. Otherwise you will always like a younger and more beautiful woman or maybe even older ones😂
It is literally 100% the opposite. If there is no porn, you haven’t rewired your brain to chase immediate lust and release with zero effort. If there is no porn, you are somewhat innocent by design - to truly only be aroused by whoever you are with and build intimacy with. Porn robs you of the ability to be intimate.
please develop more this issue. lookin at socials EVERYTHING IS NEAR PORNOGRAPHY, everything is concerned bout relationships and sex. nothin else. we are overwhelmed in socials by fantastic women and girls talking bout sex. ciao from italy
I train for real, carbs and sugar is essential. Im doing weight cut to get better watts/kg in ice-hockey. Doing now About 87/10/3. Getting leaner fast. Carbing upp performance is very good. Todays activities: •Morning 1h indoor cycling/traning. •1h+ Weightlifting(with yelling coach😂) +12 100% intervals on spinning bike. •1h ice-hockey •3 Walks with dog. •Bicycle commute to work •total of 20k+ Steps. Now its 22:00 not hungry at all. Cutting kilos fast. When I was on higher protein/fat and lower carbs I was totally drained these days bad performance and hungry as F at night. Lot of energy at work too nowadays. Keeping strength and muscle great vo2 max, ATP, anaerobics, 8 kilos lighter aming for under 10% bf.
Yeah though there is an obvious difference between a setting up a diet for athletic performances and just well being with low to moderate physical exercice. As long as you burn off most of the carbs you ingest you're good, simple as that (overall).
Thanks Andrew and Jordan, now I get that pornography is like addiction. I'm still struggling with this legal drug. I'm compromised to be clean of pornography on 2025, you're all with me?
It’s been 13 months. NEED Accountability and community. Can’t do this in isolation and without someone having access to what you view or having it blocked.
Ive gone without porn or masturbation for 100 days. It wasn't that hard for me. Maybe its because i don't have a addictive personality? I personally haven't noticed any detriments to porn for me. Maybe time I could spend doing something else? Its arguably made me better at sex. Different positions, knowing the female anatomy a little better. That's just my experience though. I understand others may be completely different.
Many individuals who engage in watching pornography often do so because they experience feelings of loneliness. It's important to acknowledge that this isn't necessarily a negative coping mechanism; rather, it can be a way to deal with emotional isolation. Personally, I've been actively working on managing my sexual urges for the past four weeks, with the goal of abstaining for an entire year. I believe it’s natural for anyone, especially someone who is a virgin, to find themselves drawn to pornography as a way to explore their sexuality and understand their desires. It can feel validating to seek out these experiences, especially when grappling with the reality of being alone. I understand these feelings deeply, as I've lived through periods of solitude myself.
For the vast majority of people out there, pornography is harmless. As with anything, a small percentage of people will have problems with it (as with drugs, alcohol, gambling, etc). Especially in places like the United States, where there's an incredibly strong Puritanical history, sex is often framed as being "bad" or "dirty", which itself creates a culture of shame. It's this puritanical culture and outlook that actually causes the vast majority of harm. Everything in moderation.
"Porn addiction" is just as silly as "video game addiction". Again, a very small amount of people will have a problem with it and the overwhelming majority of people are just fine with it.
This, up top^^^^ Finally, someone else w clear logic. It's the youth of today that grew up indoors staring at a screen that are having trouble figuring life out, and think they are "addicted." Don't wanna watch porn 24/7 while masturbating in a closet? Have a life away from the internet. Go outside. Work hard, take care of your body, have hobbies and interests, go places, interact w other people face to face, date someone, build something. Just do something/anything with meaning that has zero to do with being online or social media.
"We have no idea what effect pornography has on the development of male sexuality..." What a strange note to end the conversation on. I started with soft porn on HBO in the 80's, real porn by like the 90's, and I have a healthy relation with my wife and two healthy children. I watch porn about once a week. My wife knows but I don't do it in front of her. I don't think porn or any dopamine source is bad. However, some people have biological, environmental, and developmental factors that make them prone to addiction. The drugs or dopamine source is not the problem. Addiction is the problem. Some people have the ability to control it most do not. That is why approximately 74% of Americans are overweight and I bet most of them drink alcohol and smoke as well.
The problem is more that we see generations now that are grown up with the internet that acts as hyper stimulus for almost everything. 15 year olds can access porn without a problem and get addicted also because their brain is not fully developed yet. For these people we don't know what the effects will be later in the future. The amount of porn available is really not comparable to that in the 80's or 90's and it is way easier accessible. The same that you can't compare people starting porn at 30 years and older, who have a developed brain, with teenagers starting porn, whose brain is definitely not developed yet. These differences are the the unknown and the whole systematic issue
Addiction is a symptom, not a problem. The symptom of pornographic addiction is a response to the poor socialization and sense of community many men in Western societies experience. When people's lives lack a sense of purpose and meaning in the form of social bonds and communal engagement they anesthetize themselves with pleasure to numb their absence. Instead of connecting to technology men need to become conditioned to pro-actively connecting to the world around them. To make it better for themselves and posterity. That's the problem and solution forward.
@@zakleever1105 Not everyone gets addicted to what other people get addicted to dude. Just because I have one beer on a saturday night on the way home from gym doesn't make me an alcoholic.
8:32 With all due respect, I think it is not entirely accurate to say that there is a satiety pathway for amino acids; an undercooked steak or an undercooked onion is not tasty, cooked foods are glycosylated, which is how they acquire a sweet and delicious taste as well as a brown color.
Yes and the human intestines are too similar to the great apes, infact look identical side by side. both are very long compared to canine and omnivore, The length is used for digesting many plant foods. Gorillas for example eat 99.9% food from plant sources. yet are big muscly animals. Meaning we should be eating mostly plants too, as many studies show the people that do rarely ever have western diseases. Peterson on his steak only diet is asking for troble colorectal cancer, heart and endothelial inflammation etc
I think the more important discussion is not solely about porn but about lust in general. Sexual-cravings/lust are the strongest desire we have and if you dont learn to control your impulses around that you can wreck havoc to your relationship, be stuck in never ending non fulfilling hookups rather than finding love, or (in the case of not having luck with dating) become a bitter sexually dissatisfied loser. There is no dissatisfaction when you let go of that desire as much as you can. Its the most liberating thing ever. Its no surprise that Jesus thought that even looking with lust at a women is already a sin. Or that Buddhist monks make celibacy vows. Lust is the strongest psychological force, so we have to be extra careful with it.
Absolutely. Pornography use is more of a spiritual problem than a secular one. Those who are skeptical about the power and principles of religious traditions turn to modernity for explanation, as a substitute. Porn addiction and addiction in general tends to be a symptom instead of inherent problems. People turn to addictive outlets as a form of either stress relief, escapes from underlying unaddressed personal trauma, or as compensatory behaviors to fill a void in some unfulfilled area of life. Men turn to porn when their socially isolated and lack a sense of communal engagement and purpose. The solution is to encourage them to contribute pro-actively as members of their communities instead of being alone in front of a computer screen excessively in their spare time in a way that yield to infantile, hedonistic behaviors.
I have read many books, I listened to many RUclips videos by many of the world's leading gurus and health experts but nothing came close to the hidden herbs by anette ray. I recommend everyone giving it a read.
The modern relationship with pornography is a complex topic. To play the devil's advocate: In a world where men and women are fearful of each other and where romantic relationships are dysfunctional, pornography becomes a valid way to cope.
No, if it's harmful, it is harmful. I'm not saying it always is, some people can pick it up and put it down. If you're an addict, it's never going to be ok and it's never 'just" used as a replacement for intimacy.
I belive jerking off and even just being oversexualized just falls in the realm of too much self gratification. In fact fapin' or always being an "ogries" person ain't that different from being a cocaine addict. It's fine, to each it's own. But overindulgin' in something can be distracting and energy wasting. It depends on what you want to do with your life and time.
IMO lust is worse than drug addiction. I’ve always struggled with alcohol, but after a breakup the ensuing possession of lust that overcame me is the most shameful period of my life
I was a cookiemonster when I was a kid, loooved sugar, and today a stimulant-addict. Sugar is perfectly legal for all ages, but then the law and socities dont give a f about you and wonder "why" and punish you when you start doing cocaine. Kids, don't do sugar or cocaine. Parents, keep track on your kid if they eat sugar and have alot of cravings, but firstly don't give sugar to kids and after that realize that the system is faulty and not caring for human health.
Of course it changes your brain. Just going to a psycho/psychiatrist regularly and doing CBT changes your brain. Any relatively regular repetitive stimulus is going to change your brain. It's whether it's harmful or not is the real question. For some people it is, for some it isn't. A lot of it is how early you started and what are you doing it for.
Good morning Dr. Huberman. First of all I want to say that I really like your work and your podcast. If I may I would like to make a suggestion for a future episode of the podcast. I’m a dyslexic student of 23 years old and in this period of time I’m doing some research for understand the neurological functioning of dyslexia and the tipe of dyslexia that can exist. I also trying to learn strategies to study more efficiently knowing that I have a specific problem with the working memory. I would really love to see an expert in your podcast that can clarify all this world that is quite new in the research world. I don’t know if you would like this type of subject but I think it can be very interesting since dyslexia affects up to 20/30% of the world's population. In the meantime thanks for everything and have a nice week.
For me, porn is only a concern if I am in a relationship. I haven't been in a relationship for years and I self-pleasure in the evening. Not every evening. Sometimes with porn and other times with my imagination while in bed. I don't believe in 'addiction' but I do understand 'habits.' Adddiction is harsh in my opnion. Moderation works for me and I enjoy porn from time to time late in the evening. If I chose to be in a relationship I will ask my partner if they would like to watch with me. If they say 'no' then that's fine with me and I will leave it alone. All or nothing has NEVER worked for me with anything. I moderate my behavior and practice self-control/self-mastery. For example. I don't drink but I have a full bar for those friends who do.....Self-mastery is key. I"m not fearful of anything and I do not believe in 'Addiction.' I'm old. We once called negative behavior 'habits.' Any habit can be broken in a month of dedication. On the topic of 'clearing my mind.' My mind is clear. And, a healthy sex life is GOOD FOR YOU! Why 'cut out' something 'good?' Makes zero sense. Might as well be a monk! LOL People take this subject far far far too seriously. And, I have a A Psychology Degree from a great University. Bottom line is this: If you are in a relationship, you'll probably need to drop the porn. If you live alone....enjoy your body and create a sex life for yourself.
The last statement about having no idea what porn has on male sexuality is, I would say, not correct. Internet and porn have existed side by side for two decades already - plenty of time for doing research on this.
Wait a second. So enjoying porn for a few mins to orgasm as a single person who is not otherwise sexually active is considered a problem now? Really? Or are we just talking excessive use of pornography which to me makes sense is not a good thing.
I think there’s a lot to consider - like what’s the social impact of us viewing images of other humans in such an objectifying way, how does it program our ideas surrounding intercourse and its value (in your example it’s completely self facing), what expectations does it form? Etc. we have a big issue with the male gaze, it’s a tale as old as time, but do we really believe that porn is helping that issue or hindering it?
I am so so deep into this guys. I'm on the verge of collapsing to this addiction. I did a lot of research on this topic and nothing seems to work out for me. I absolutely have had a great journey, abstaining of Porn for a long time. Then, out of nowhere, urges flooded back to my brain with a nearly unbearable strength that I couldn't fight back. Please guys tell me if anyone dove as deep as me in this addiction, or even close, and somehow managed to slip away😩

Do you have a regular s3x life? Or is there still an insecurity in being able to meet that need? If you can deal with the Trauma in your Unconscious mind driving you to use p and then get your game right to where you can easily have healthy interactions with women where you can also get the oxytocin fulfilled then p will feel more useless because you're not compensating for the pain you feel inside about yourself. Resolving your inner game amd actually getting your real needs met as a man will free you I believe.

I can absolutely related to the steak thing huberman talks about . As an Indian I drank tea with sugar . All the teas even with different kind of leaves started to taste the same . I actually felt what is the difference between all these. Then I went into a sugar cut . The difference in taste was just so huge. I only tasted sugar back then . Now I can feel all the difference . Same is in the case of spicieness in Indian diets . I couldn't enjoy all the food because of all the spieciness . Then I started taking mild food . Now in almost everything I eat i can enjoy all the flavours and feel everything. It's huge .
curious -- is there an optimal frequency for taking in spicy foods where you don't get the same blunting effect, or have you cut it out more or less completely?
I grew up watching porn 12-26 and it ruined my brain. I'm 35 , I havent masturbated to porn in 8 years and I suffer from intrusive thoughts and shame. Its difficult to understand what a healthy sexual relationship is like. I quit masturbaiting because it was another form of un healthy stimulation that was making it difficult to deal with sexual urges. I had a sexual relationship recently and I could feel my unhealthy arousals coming back to haunt me.

It might help to try to put a positive spin on arousal. It could be that you're repressing the whole as your experience was negative and damaging, but there is a good and healthy place in life for those feelings. If you're able to welcome them and observe and don't act on them they won't control you as easily
So, how come do we can hate foods that are very very good for us from a nutritional point of view? like proper hate the taste while the food would be super beneficial nutritionally?
I wish this covered a lot more facts, studies, or effects. I feel trying to relate this to food and stating as something as a "fact" that such as that your stomach "knows" just opens up a world of subjectivity and I think this entire clip majorly failed because of this extreme subjectivity weakening the rest of the content. It seems most of the value added here was by Dr. Peterson who spoke much more objectively of the confirmed challenges that pornography brings especially to teenage males, but Huberman should've been coming from more of an objective position to drive the content essential to the conversation rather than wasting time, making any potential arguments on harms of pornography weaker. Not everyone suffers from overeating that doesn't eat "clean," which is what he is suggesting. I don't believe these tiny subfactors regarding food are the strong talking points that should exist on the topic of pornography. If pornography attacks the ability to connect with a spouse or prevents social progression with the opposite sex, you are either dealing with the potential for ruining a family or failing to reach the potential to start a family. On the other hand, how many examples can objectively be given that would suggest that eating processed food generally ruins the potential for a "happily ever after" that real "addiction" so strongly opposes. If you have no better arguments against the effects of pornography than using food analogies, then I think you should wait to publish content until you do, because they certainly exist. I think the links to food come off as additional agendas being pushed rather than showing a real concern about the effects of pornography.
I gave up porn for a few months when my sex drive plummeted for various reasons. Noticed no difference. Started watching again after that. Still no difference. Perhaps it's just me.

I really wonder where this issue with "interruption" comes from. Like in a debate if two cognitively gifted people it's not an issue to stop somebody half way and pick it up later. I always love hearing other mens stories about what/how they feel different after nofap/rebooting. Could you let us know whats changed in your life? thanks.
congratulations! how do you feel when you say different?

Dr Trish Leigh talks about this. i'm almost 30 days clean, and feeling great.
This right there. At first I didn't know what is happening, I wanted to get my brain checked how much it impacted my memory and concentration, didn't make the connection at first, but realized very quickly it's the culprit. Dear stranger, You will breakthrough it, just grind.

❤
Man I’m all for freedom, but porn must be regulated. There should NEED to be certain precautions taken to make certain the viewer is 18+. Im 26 and damn certain my kids will not have unlimited internet access. I’m lucky at my age I viewed it but realized early on how strong of a stimulus it is.
Everyone gathered here has one thing in common 😢we want to quit this destructive desire.. God help us
Pornography is destroying souls
Prove that statement
It's the same as any other addiction, no matter in which form it comes.
Try to phrase it differently, you don't get addicted rather you program your body.
So stop doing it and body will find something else as that is how it works, it adapts.
If you do it constantly, you encourage your body to want more and put it at the top of a mountain of pleasure based on the amount of dopamine that you get from it so just learn to understand that it is not necessarily an enemy, but rather just an order that you set and that your body follows unless you flip the switch and guide it to something different.
Interesting perspective.

There's an episode on music
Enjoy! I cut music out of my life for a short while because I thought "dopamine spikes=bad, addiction=bad", but it worsened my quality of life.
music is a big problem but nobody talk about it, the industry is too powerful
To me music is so important that I let it be my dopamine high with a lower baseline. I feel like music is so human that it would be a shame not to listen to it. The problem (if you've seen the practical episode on dopamine) is layering it on top of other dopamine releasing activities.
God bless you too!

Same here.
Returning to baseline through abstinence has benefits. Temperance was a value in ages past for a reason but people rarely regard history nowadays.
the problem has never been masturbation. most men won't masturbate compulsively without viewing porn
This was reversed for me when I was growing up.

Why quit? Is porn damaging your life? Is it getting in the way of work or your relationship? If no, relax and enjoy.

It’s been a few days and I’m not sure why but for some reason this time feels different.
Now it's my turn to stay consistent with no fap.

If everyone had a great sex life there would be no need for porn.
Porn is illegal in most countries where people do have good sex lives.

Ive gone without porn or masturbation for 100 days. It wasn't that hard for me. Maybe its because i don't have a addictive personality? I personally haven't noticed any detriments to porn for me.
Again, a very small amount of people will have a problem with it and the overwhelming majority of people are just fine with it.
agree
This, up top^^^^ Finally, someone else w clear logic. It's the youth of today that grew up indoors staring at a screen that are having trouble figuring life out, and think they are "addicted." Don't wanna watch porn 24/7 while masturbating in a closet? Have a life away from the internet. Go outside. Work hard, take care of your body, have hobbies and interests, go places, interact w other people face to face, date someone, build something. Just do something/anything with meaning that has zero to do with being online or social media.
It does.
Also, you will fail countless times trying to quit.
When you do quit, it's worth it. I don't think the urge there ever goes away though.

Yes and the human intestines are too similar to the great apes, infact look identical side by side. both are very long compared to canine and omnivore, The length is used for digesting many plant foods. Gorillas for example eat 99.9% food from plant sources. yet are big muscly animals.

Sounds like I am in pretty bad position

Kids, don't do sugar or cocaine. Parents, keep track on your kid if they eat sugar and have alot of cravings, but firstly don't give sugar to kids and after that realize that the system is faulty and not caring for human health.
I love JP but man it was tough to try and tune out his interruptions in this episode.
Not related to discussion but I'm trying to understand Jordan Peterson's jacket.
I'm curious, at what point do people think it becomes a problem? Is watching a couple of times a month deemed an addiction?
Once upon a time a sex addict and a sex surpresser liked to give advices on how to handle sexuality proper.
I like how Dr. Huberman scoffs at Jordon Peterson saying that pornography was, “ at hand so to speak” . lol 4:38
Is it excessive for a male to masturbate almost daily, whether in an intimate relationship or single?
Whether something is excessive depends. Do you find it to impede any part of your life?
I came really quickly when I saw the title
The last statement about having no idea what porn has on male sexuality is, I would say, not correct. Internet and porn have existed side by side for two decades already - plenty of time for doing research on this.
Exactly. But we already know why they haven't yet
5:08 … ENERGY DRINKS…
the more you get it the less you want it
Wait a second. So enjoying porn for a few mins to orgasm as a single person who is not otherwise sexually active is considered a problem now? Really? Or are we just talking excessive use of pornography which to me makes sense is not a good thing.
The main problem is using it from a young age, which is when the brain is supposed to be forming.
@@zanderinofilms maybe anglo saxons should ask themselves what viewing life through a puritan lens does to your brain first?
@@PanosSchmitAlmeira forgive me, I’m not sure I understand what you’re saying
You should lament on what they noted on men being more visual stimulated than women. It's basic anatomy
Please guys tell me if anyone dove as deep as me in this addiction, or even close, and somehow managed to slip away😩
unfortunately i had to hit rock bottom for me to wake up. I had no other way but to turn back to god. if you're not religious i don't think this will help.
i cant stop
@@bluskytooMe too I swear. I've been enduring this for a very long time, concealing my mood swings and pain. Knowing that a man should take responsibility and do what he have to do without talking.
@@alfaisaac024 I'm currently working on improving my mental health. And yes, It sounds great to step back from this long held addiction. I'm now feeling exceptionally powerful thanks to a wide variety of strategies I gained from reading a lot of educational books. I learned what triggers, how I respond to triggers, what causes the overwhelming stress and excessive thinking and urge to watch p. Thank you so much for paying attention to my condition. Revealing everything about my addiction to you in addition to others had really lifted an overwhelming burden off my back.
Thank you❤️
Why did I watch this just right after I ate chocolate cookies? Now I am full of regerts.
no regerts
Watching this while eating chocolate😂
i thank GOD and the Lord Jesus Christ for helping me to quit alcohol, porn, masturbation and the end result of masturbation as well.
i barely even think about it anymore
This is the way
try to do it on your own when you dont want to stop, only way is to give it to the lord
wish i knew how to do that
@@willislangerhansel2382 it was extraordinarily difficult. i just kept adding 1 day every 2-3 weeks. so if i was drinking every other day, i would go 2 days for 2-3 weeks, and so on. every day, all day long, and especially before falling asleep i could CONSTANTLY thank the Lord God Almighty, and the Lord Jesus Christ for helping me to stay sober. Over and over. and do the same when i woke up in the morning. Thanking them for helping me to abstain from alcohol and PME the previous evening.
Lately, the PME has been quite easy due to debilitating depression and feelings of worthlessness.
keep repeating over and over to yourself:
"Alcohol and PME have done nothing but make me poorer, fatter, slower, stupider, older, weaker, and more ashamed than i already am"
and
"there is nothing i want from, need, or like about alcohol and PME"
repeat that to yourself non-stop every waking moment of your life
hope this helps
who created jesus? why don't u thank that god directly?
So if you eat a rib eye steak while watching porography what happens then?
you achieve nirvana
The moment you can't get it stiff in front of a real woman you know there's something wrong 💯
Caffeine is another tough drug to break.
Been addicted to adderall for awhile. Anyone got some advice. This video helped a ton.
I was addicted at the same time period as you, now Im 27 and clean for a month. Still feeling depressed, anxiety, no motivation. But I will stay away from it
@@posadist681hope I'm gonna end with it this time longest I last was 3 weeks but this time it's gonna be much much longer and never look back, we got this 🤜
It might help to try to put a positive spin on arousal. It could be that you're repressing the whole as your experience was negative and damaging, but there is a good and healthy place in life for those feelings. If you're able to welcome them and observe and don't act on them they won't control you as easily
@@OleVinny thanks for saying that. it feels like the explicit images have altered/corrupted how i view arousal and intimacy
@@posadist681it doesn’t make sense if u quit it should help right? But when we stop doing it it comes with sadness empty… so what should we do
I will quit this stuff forever
So, how come do we can hate foods that are very very good for us from a nutritional point of view? like proper hate the taste while the food would be super beneficial nutritionally?
If i would see 15 years old myself, i would told me if it has to be... don't do it more than once in a month.
This comment section is full of heroes and villains.
What about masturbation without porn? Is it healthy when it's not excessive in terms of frequency?
good video
About sugar and cocaine - it is just brillliant thought.
Highly unusual discussion with Jordan P... over 14 minutes of talking about a problem yet he doesn't blame feminism for it even once? This must be AI.
"Flee from sexual immorality"
1 Corinthians 6:18.
Power be to Jesus!!
IT WAS UNDERSTANDABLE AT THE START, BUT AS IT GOES TO THE MIDDLE OF THE CONVERSATION, NOTHING CAN BE UNDERSTOOD. TOO MANY TABS OPENED FOR 1 TOPIC
I gave up porn for a few months when my sex drive plummeted for various reasons. Noticed no difference. Started watching again after that. Still no difference. Perhaps it's just me.
