  • Sharing our hardships moves us through shame and into healing Eli Nash is the CEO of JEG & Sons Inc. and the Co-Founder of MicDrop. Eli founded JEG & Sons in 2006 to bring no contract and unlocked phones to US e-tailers and retailers. Under his guidance, JEG grew from a startup to over $200M in revenue, servicing retail giants such as Walmart, Amazon, Best Buy, Target and many others.
In addition to his business accomplishments, Eli has taken active role in the non-profit world - sitting on the Board of Lamplighters Yeshivah (a Jewish Day school), JCW (a leading organization in the fight against child sexual abuse) and in an advisory role with Urban Promise Miami (an after-school program servicing little Havana).
As Eli held the details of his own abuse secret for many years, he is now passionate about empowering others to speak up and to use their voice to be an agent of change in their communities. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

I've been an addict for almost 11 years. I've been suffering from it for so long, and it escalated greatly. The thing I hate the most is the desensitization of it, and you begin viewing things you despise yet the shock factor helps you get off. I put my life in danger several times to try to get laid as a teenager, and my behavior got so out of control. I'm 22 and still an addict, but I'm working hard to fight this, and do social activities every day. To all my fellow people who suffer from this, you got this. You're not alone.

Rely on Jesus, He's the only way to conquer this for good. Even going back to it once a year is not freedom from addiction. We have to completely rewire our brains and "be transformed through the renewing of our minds" (Romans 12:2). It's only through Christ that strengthens us can we conquer this and we overcome it once we realize how much God loves us. Only then will we want to put off the old and put on the new and pursue righteousness in Him alone. Praying for you and you can overcome this through Christ

I was an addict since the age 11 for years, but by the power of God I have been sober for about 8 years.
Many times I have come close to falling back in because of lies of just “I will just look for a minute, or I am just curious about something”
But there is no freer feeling being able to sit at a computer and get some work done without crushing guilt and fear that you will do something you hate doing. That freedom is out there guys.

It’s especially amazing to see people supporting, and being a kind to each other no matter who the other person is. And with there being so much hate, and sin, and shame, and regrets in the world; we need to support each other. In places such as addiction support is such an important thing. Because if you don’t have that support from other or the reassurance from others you can’t accomplish any form of sobriety. So I would 100% agree that they have passes the vibe check. And I pray that we can learn to see more of these sorts of comment sections all over SM.

Seeing how many teenagers and even kids as young as 13 are trying to escape this addiction just breaks my heart. My message to you is: keep fighting it no matter how hard it is, no matter how many times you will fail. With every fail to quit it you will understand how strong your addiction is and you will get more and more scared to realize how it is taking control over your life. I encourage you to read my whole comment.
I have an example of a man I knew a while ago. He had struggled with alcohol addiction for decades, this addiction took everything from him: he lost his job, his wife left him, he was carried out by friends every night dead drunk till no one would do that anymore and he would just lay on the street with vomit and pee on his pants. He lost his reputation, his self-esteem, literally everything. I don't know what his revelation was because I met him as a church cantor. But from the moment I saw him singing a chant named "Forgive me, Father" I knew this was a converted man. I never saw someone displaying so much repent on their faces. And every single time he was singing this chant, he had the same expression and tears in his eyes. The most profound sorrow one could ever imagine. I asked my grandma what his story was and she told me that he used to be that heavy drinker that everyone would despise.
After a couple of years I had the chance to sit at the same table with him. Everyone was drinking wine, but he alone was drinking water. I knew his story, but I pretended I didn't. I guess it was just curiosity to see if he would confess his old addiction, how he sees that now etc. So I asked him just like nothing: "But aren't you up for a glass of wine, sir?" He looked at me with a look that I will never forget. It was a mix of profound sorrow and determination, then he looked at my glass of wine as detached as we could look at something that doesn't belong to our world anymore and told me with a firm voice: "That was my biggest enemy for years. I will never surrender to my enemy again. I am the happiest man on Earth that I can have this glass of water today here, Miss." And that moment I understood something that I will always use to fight my own addictions and to help others fight with theirs: you will never overcome your addiction until you look at it as an ENEMY. A monstrous, hideous enemy right there, in front of you. As long as you will play it soft, you won't be able to escape it. Unless you are not really an addict and doesn't take a lot of effort to quit. If that man who was so low and completely owned by his addiction could escape it, I think everyone can. It doesn't have to be this extreme like in the case I presented to destroy your life. The thing with addictions is that you don't know how bad and how fast can it evolve and control you without you even realizing it. The sooner you can get rid of it, the easier will be your fight.
And although everyone needs encouragement on their path on quitting, please remember that until the moment when you reach absolute and complete detachment from your addiction, your fight didn't end. Your enemy is still there, hidden, waiting for you to be vulnerable....waiting for you to fall again. KEEP FIGHTING!

@It’z Velly I do. It takes a change of mindset. You have to fill your time with other positive things instead of hanging around in your room, where most of us know we’re prone to engage in that. For example, read books/ the Bible, pray, go to the gym/ for a run, etc. to fill your time with something positive in order to REPLACE the bad habit with good habits.

    • @jesusisthelight4416

@It’z Velly It’s not enough to just resist it. It has to be replaced with something else so the time you have to engage in it lessens. I’m praying for you 🙏🏻
