Military working dogs in Cyprus have been flown by helicopter to provide spot security checks on the gates of British bases on the island.
We joined one of the flights and were given exclusive behind the scenes access with the dog section based at Episkopi to find out more about their handlers and how they train their military dogs.

I was in Cyprus in 1957- 1959 serving with RAVC based at Lakatamia with 6 AGDU .We had a vast number of dogs of all types, guard dogs, infantry patrol dogs. sniffer dogs. I got chewed up during initial training at Welby lane camp - Melton Mowbray. this led to me being transferred to the orderly room. I rose to rank of full corporal but on day of demob i was told my sergeant s papers had come through. I went on to leave the army.
I still have fond memories of my time and supporting the many handlers , from RAVC/RMP and many other units.
