Military dogs sink their teeth into training in the Arctic

- Military dogs have been put to the test in the Arctic, deploying to Norway with Royal Marine Commandos.
It is only the second time the military has taken dogs to the frozen continent, but by accompanying the commandos on long patrols across the unforgiving terrain, the dogs could pick up on potential threats quickly.
One of the dogs, Kaiser, can pick up the smell of a human from 600m away and then, if needed, stop them in their tracks, as the video above shows.

Just a dit! Out in Iraq we launched a raid on a village, it took two platoons to put a cordon in on one half of the village and one dog to protect the Corden on the other side! Awesome animals our land sharks!

That very good boy was missing half his tail! I love working with Malinois and German Shepherds, I train dogs for search and rescue and police work.
Got to be one of the best jobs in the army, in one of the nicest places to work.
This is what Malinois's are breed for. Unlike my neighbours having one in their home as a pet who are totally out their depth and have no idea what they are doing with it. The thing is causing misery to the other neighbours with its constant loud barking.
There are two distinct lines of breeding, one working, one social. If they got the wrong one....
If you think the barking is bad just wait. When the day/night comes when the sirens drown it out and the emergency services descend. That would be truly grim.

Great to see the dogs at work but I don't understand why the Forces don't use dogs more suited to the extreme weather such as husky or Malamute for example or even Wolfdog or Russian Terrier. Just a thought

Nope
As a Farmer, I think that this is exactly what these types of domestic dog are for, Working Animals, not as replacement children within the home environment in suburbia. At the end of the day, it’s evolution comes from the wild Wolf, an apex predator. Used properly these dogs can become very useful assets, Treated as substitute children they can kill people as well as livestock!
People need to consider breeds when getting a pet. Lots of breeds are really working dog breeds, some are not. Domestication has drastically changed dog behavior.
They also need to consider what purpose they have in the dog and appropriate training. Dogs can be guard dogs, friends, service animals, and more.

This is more a question of animal fear than actual threat. A well trained soldier can easily incapacitate a dog of this small size. A few dogs...well that is different.
I take it you've never been bitten by a Patrol dog then?
Your thought process takes a bit of a reset when you have 200psi of force crunching your arm.
@@JammyDodger45 Don’t agree with you. The weight of the dog versus the size of the man (well trained) is more of a factor. I agree with you that PSI is something, but it doesn’t take much force to puncture top of hands, neck and face (which is ironically where untrained dogs go for, after knocking you down). Worse still, is if the dog bites, releases and bites again, so you can’t hold onto the dog and immobilise it. To be honest any wounding leads to nasty infections afterwards…

Just go out and get a 25kg dog to hit you at 40kph whilst biting you with 1400kPa and then come back and tell me your thoughts.
