Speak CLEARLY. It is not the 1974 "conflict" that was followed by a ceasefire. It is the 1974 Turkish invasion. There is no "North" side and a Cypriot Republic. The southern section of the island is under the control of the Republic of Cyprus, while the northern section is OCCUPIED and under the control of a de facto government.
Now you can cross from one side to another quite easy: regular passport control takes minute or so. Did it several times. Never saw a UN personnel, both sides manage the border fairly good. Not sure where that drama comes from: border is calm these days.

@@tk5gqj514 I never claimed that but since you mention the absurdity of the greek dictatorship coup and considering the horrid acts of the fanatics (greeks, turks, greek-cypriots and turkish-cypriots alike) it would be absurd not to acknowledge the monstrosity of the illegal invasion (if you don't already do so) which stands to this day! Turkey claimed they intervened (20th july 1974) in order to guarantee the safety of all cypriots from the coup (15th july 1974), and they had every right to do so, though they did not stop when the democracy on the island was restored, that is, in 23rd of july 1974 nor when greek dictatorship collapsed in 24th of july 1974. Instead they commenced a full scale invasion capturing 37% of the island; not to mention the atrocities that came with the war...
@@soto5622 The invasion happened because the Turkish demands were not accepted by Greece & fanatic Greek Cypriots. Including UK refusing to be a peacekeeping force. Main demands were that Greek & Turkish Cypriots should get equal rights on the Island, Both to be allowed a small force to keep the peace and limit officers "both sides" to a minimum. & then Turkiye asked UK to also stay as a neutral peacekeeping force. these demands were rejected by Greece & UK.. The UK did not want to be responsible of Cyprus anymore as they had problems of their own. Greece wanted to annex Cyprus and forcefully make it part of Greece which would have allowed Greece to gain big area of current existing Turkish EEZ. After their rejection of Turkish demands, Turkiye had no other choice but invade to protect Turkish Cypriots and to restore stability. Greece has created too much influence in Cyprus & its corrupted. Therefore Turkiye has every right to keep northern Cyprus.. Turkiye, UK & Greece were guarantors of Cyprus "treaty of guarantee 1960" , but Greece broke that treaty by being greedy and supplying fanatic groups create coup & overthrow independent Cyprus government & to kill Turkish Cypriots thus Greece is no longer a guarantor of Cyprus. Even when there were few referendums to unify Cyprus to become independent it was majority rejected by Greek Cypriots and it was majority accept by Turkish Cypriots. as majority Greek Cypriots voted against unification it did not happen. thats what i meant with Greece managed to create a huge Greek influence within Cyprus & therefore its corrupted. If Greece never decided to supply fanatic greeks & overthrow Cyprus government.. Turkish invasion would have never happened. :)
The only reliable and sustainable 'solution' is recognition of Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. Either internationally recognized or not, Turkish Cypriots have their own state and government institutions. I still see the Greek Cypriot government and people is reading the topic in a point of view 'Cyprus & Greek Hellenism' this will never lead a solution that they expect. The very recent attempt to make island 'Greek' caused the collapse and capture of 'Cyprus Republic', so as of now there is only Greek Cypriot government in the south and TRNc at the north. These two states can live and cooperate peacefully, as neighboring countries. UN resolutions regarding Cyprus is obsolate. Ignores the present day's facts and yet ignoring the legitimate soverign right of Turkish Cypriots. So members of UNSC, especially Russia must take initiative, bold decisions to recognize TRNC. I am sure once achinved this step some other countries will quickly recognize Turkish Cypriot State. (Namely Pakistan, Kosovo, Albania, Qatar, Pakistan, Russia, +.) Expecting Turkish Cypriots to embedded with 'Republic of Cyprus' is simply naive. Daydreaming...
You mean, how come Turkey is still a candidate for the EU? The EC has an empire to build, and it wishes to extend it as far as possible. They also want to dilute the native populations of the hostage countries under them, to erode any sense of nation states and peoples. Turks, a gigantic future mass immigration source that will even surpass Poland, will flood these nations even more than the Polacks, so for both of those reasons - territorial expansion and political influence over another big country, and deluging the Northern countries even further with mass immigration, the Commission wants them in.
Is All Turkish land . UK basis in north and South of the Island there are part of British Occupation . And they provide Support for Nazi J . ew , Sh who are occupying palestine . An attacking Yemen as well .
I was just there, Nicosia border crossing, last week. It is as you describe. Peaceful but sad, a bit tense ("no photos, turn the other way"). The crossing is two lines, Turk and Cypriot. 5mins to cross. One group tourists got through Cyprus, with their guide, by waving passports, everyone laughed. "If only TSA allowed that!". The border is ugly. What is prime real estate in a bustling tourist city is garbage-strewn rot. We saw plenty of signs on Greek side "troops out", and "one Cyprus". Emotional aspiration. Reveals the gut of the problem (Ukraine). We humans are badly flawed. Fear, ego, insult, rumors of glory. We fight. And somehow think we will "win". We just cannot think our way out of that mentality no matter how intelligent we might think we are. My respect to UN folks holding peace together. The UN is silly in many things (climate change) but not this. There needs to be an clear and nasty penalty for human propensity for violence. Else we'll get more of it.
Net wages of northern cypriot citizens are two times much better than Turkish citizens' net wages. There are 60.000 northern cypriots living in cyprus, 40.000 turkish commandos have been deployed in the northern side of cyprus, at least 150.000 turkish citizens are living and working in northern cyprus and not any of them can pass buffer zones to southern cyprus unless they have got british, cyprus, schengen passaports. University entrance exam bottom scores in northern cyprus universities are one of the lowest compared to turkish universities departments' entrance scores. In order to enter Eastern Mediterenean University electronical engineering department, 215 score from Turkish university exam score is enough, but to enter Metu or Hacettepe or Bilkent universities electronics engineer departments you need to get at least 610 bottom scores from same entrance exam for all turkish, northern cypriot universities. Many of the relatives of northern cypriot citizens' relatives have been citizens of australia, england, canada, USA, New Zealand or South African nations.

Still weird for 2 NATO allies to have UN keep the peace between them.
Cyprus is not a member of NATO but it is EU member for the most part.
@@drscopeify I know because I live in the EU, but I meant the brewing conflict between Greece and Turkey/Türkiye ofcourse.
The weirdest thing is that Greece and Turkey are in the North Atlantic treaty organization at all.
@@FuckFeminists if not it would have been war already and we don’t need one anymore.
Ive been there
Now you can cross from one side to another quite easy: regular passport control takes minute or so. Did it several times. Never saw a UN personnel, both sides manage the border fairly good. Not sure where that drama comes from: border is calm these days.
Are the Cypriot NG and Turkish conscripts unarmed??
Not sure why I am seeing UN soldiers inside the Buffer Zone without arms?? Mysterious.
Cypriot sf is ready. Were armed just vastly outnumbered. Having served on a unit on the green line we have the weapons but not the numbers if the turks come. Our commanders literally told us to fight a gurilla war if there is ever an invasion
turkish soldiers near buffer zone are almost unarmed, not a single bullet can be fired without order and ammunition is always kept off the rifle during expeditions.
Just saying... there was no war or buffer zone while the British were in control
Hahahaha.
Yeah, India and the US should be returned to British rule as well...
Gurkha’s are the best
After all these years is there any point in this buffer zone.
The north and south just need to accept they each have their own country now
cool border control you got there... how many came into the UK though
They list everyone but the news
Keeping the peace? When it’s already peaceful…. Right?
❤❤❤
It's not called the Turkish North. It's occupied.
It was an Invasion and Occupation by Turkey in 1974 rather than a ''conflict'' which to this day continues.
I am from former West- Berlin so this brings back old memories.
Britten, is one out of the three ,quarantor powers ,of the independence of Cyprus.
is about time , ..actually we lost much of it , to finally ..do and develope the necessary movements about it's islands obligations
What is referred to as "The North" in this video should be referred to as "The Turkish Occupied North" and the "conflict" was actually an "invasion".
the north isnt Occupied it has been liberated from genocidal greeks

Wasted 6 months of my life out there. Not really a tour. They are begging it up in this video. 😂
Nice beaches though?
They did nothing for use in 1963 when our house was fire bomb and I sustained 3rd degree burns when I was 16 months old and had to come to uk for treatment. I don’t think UN is fit for purpose, they should pack up and leave.
Thank you Turkey to save Cyprus people from greek massacre
UN should be in UKRAINE keeping the peace?
Are they un-armed?
Why can’t we patrol our own borders this well????
For a bit of poetic, hilarious and tragic background into the start of the conflict, read Bitter Lemons, by Lawrence Durrell.
For a poetic and hilarious background to the Durrell family, read My Family And Other Animals, by Gerald Durrell.
Thank you for the recommendations, I read Gerald Durrells book as a child and loved it so will certainly search out Bitter Lemons , thanks once again.
I remember when Canadian peacekeepers were killed in their bunks in Cyprus in the 1970s
New patrol tactics ?
No small arms for self defense? Kind of peacekeeping is this? Lmfao
Uk should focus on patrolling its own borders, cyprus dont need patrolling, theres no war there. And theres no mass migration there.
Cpl Paul Cookson: 2:58 " This is OP 89, as you can see there are no doors or windows".................3:13 "Some of us have packed ponchos which we can for the doors & windows", what's the barb test score requirement for the RLC???????
Just turn up I reckon.
not a conflict, it was an invasion
My Grandad was there as well when Greece Invaded on July 15th '1974
A week of Eoka Greek Terrorists slaughtering Turkish Cypriot Civilians and Greek Cypriots.
The British could have stopped the Mass Murderer Greek Sampson and the Greek Invaders.
So nothing wrong with the Greek coup to annex the island?
They intervened In a coup d'etat to protect Turkish peoples
The repeated "I'm currently stood" sounds off grammar-wise, doesn't it?!
I saw "The UN peacekeepers new patrol tactic" and expected a video from the Onion.
Ahhh - Mopheu and Foxtrot gated to the UN Prot Area - 6 months stagging on
Why are they not armed?
"last divided city" umm...
No guns? Dam
(Namely Pakistan, Kosovo, Albania, Qatar, Pakistan, Russia, +.)
Expecting Turkish Cypriots to embedded with 'Republic of Cyprus' is simply naive.
Daydreaming...
How is Turkey still part of European Union after invading Cyprus an independant country while Russia is criticized for Ukraine.
Turkey isn't in the EU
You mean, how come Turkey is still a candidate for the EU?
The EC has an empire to build, and it wishes to extend it as far as possible. They also want to dilute the native populations of the hostage countries under them, to erode any sense of nation states and peoples. Turks, a gigantic future mass immigration source that will even surpass Poland, will flood these nations even more than the Polacks, so for both of those reasons - territorial expansion and political influence over another big country, and deluging the Northern countries even further with mass immigration, the Commission wants them in.

Where are their guns?!
They aren't Turkish territory in Cyprus, it's occupied even 50 years illegally from the Turkish invasion condemned by UN

Last divide city you say? What about Jerusalem?
Why aren't they carrying weapons on patrol?
ah yes show hte internet what there tactics are so they can get counteracted typical news
Cyprus needs to be united again. It's baffling that a EU country is literally divided by a wall, just like Berlin back in its time
I was just there, Nicosia border crossing, last week.
How is this a "new" tactic?
It should have been used from the beginning!
Absolute insanity of human beings
