The army is great until they ship you off to fight wars for the billionaires you will never meat. The last legit war was world war 2, after that every single troop that was sent to wars was total lies and that’s a fact.
Just about to complete 37 years in the British Army. Don't listen to whatever anyone says. Form your own opinion, be respectful and don't expect respect, earn it through your deeds. It's not for everyone and I can honestly say I have never encountered racism. Bullying I have encountered first hand when I was much younger, but it's not tolerated and help is always available. The vast majority of my Brother and Sister servicemen and women do not, I repeat WILL NOT stand for any form of bullying. Give it a go if your thinking about it... it's a great life for those who embrace it.

Man, if I could go back in time and join at 18 I would. I never knew what I wanted to do I did have a interest in the military. But at the time, women weren't allowed to be 'soliders' however, they were allowed in the army but it wasn't role's I was interested in and couldn't afford to give up my job at the time but something I may or may not have got accepted for. Now I'm a 30 single parent with a small child so will never have the chance, my son and his needs will always come first. But as I said, if I could go back, join at 18 and then have my son now to say I've done it, that would've been great 😂 but oh well, plod on I guess 😂
Excellent advice. Some people never learn this and as a result experience constant misery. I served 23 years and don't regret any of it. Keep up the good work!
Attitude is one of the biggest issue and they come into the Army with it and create problem for themselves and Chain of Command. You hit the nail on the head again bro, great vid.
That was a succinct and relatable presentation. My only criticism: the omission of personal fitness, PRIOR to joining. I served in the 80s and it was made clear, at selection, that running was key. Four months prior to joining, I worked up to running 4 miles to work, each day (the final 2 months in army boots I'd acquired); this (for me) took the shock out of the initial weeks of PT. Happy Days :)
Daniel WOODRUFFE: I suppose it depends on which branch of the army you want to join. If you plan to join the infantry, especially elite units like the paras or marines, then physical fitness will be more important than some other qualities (for example, technical and / or mechanical skills).......however all soldiers will need to have a minimum fitness level so the more you have, the better it will be for you.
@@paganphil100 I concur; it was my recollection of the first 8-9 weeks, when recruits were falling by the wayside (literally): in the Gym, on the obstacle courses and especially when on runs.
Some great advice there. Had to smile about the one about gambling. On a troop/equipment train to Soltau, three of the men in my compartment were looking for a fourth man to play poker. I could not play poker. Come on they said, "it's easy, we'll teach you." I was over the moon winning most of the first games. Then it happened. They took most of my money. Never again.
1. Attitude is good. But it has to be the right attitude. 2. Fitness is linked to attitude. Fit to fight is the best attitude. 3. Agree with three. Gambling and drug are a no no..Want to be a gangsta in the army? Then be prepared to hit the high street real quick!. 4. Also agree. Racism isn't what the army is about..
Just giggling watching this.. I joined at 15.. we had racism, but no drugs no gambling and if you didn't work at getting fitter stronger etc you where in a world of pain. We got paid £10 a week £5 of which was held back for saving and kit and what money was left some had to go to the section Corporal who when pissed demanded money for more drink. So it wasn't your fellow recruits you had to look out for but the bloody training staff lol
iuvenis animo Then you could join at 15 which was the school leaving age. Trust me a lot has changed in the army, then it was normal to get a DMS boot in the ribs from an instructor, I have seen corporals kick recruits so hard they lost teeth. If you where Scottish you where called a jock bastard, Irish a paddy bastard Welsh a taff bastard. We where standing by our beds as usual, lockers open for inspection by one of the Officers. He asked me if I was a right footer? I said yes Sir. He said good i don't like left footers .. I thought this guy takes his football seriously. A few boys down the line he asked a Scottish soldier the same question, left footer Sir. He kneed him in his balls and as he lay on the ground writhing in pain he said I don't like left footers.. I only found out later a left footer was a catholic lol. In those days you joined your Jnr Regiment and mine was an elite one so you trained and where treated as a man. Good luck and don't worry things like that don't happen now, but work hard, don't stand out for all the wrong reasons, never steal, lie or cheat because you will be found out! But it's a great life and well worth doing. One other thing, keep your mouth shut and your ears open.
iuvenis animo Trust me there are many more, but don't want to bore or scare you. But I will say how tough our physical training was, just to give you an idea. Every morning we would go for a 5 Mile run, during the runs we had to run over the top of an old WW2 bridge, made more difficult by the corporals jumping up and down on the middle beams, it was called confidence training but it did little for my confidence lol. Then bunny hops and carrying another soldier on your back. Then after breakfast into the gym where you where put through press ups, rope climbs, weight training etc oh and one little treat.. you would ly down in a row, the first soldier in the line would then run over each soldiers stomach. Then weapon training etc etc. You lost weight gained muscle and died each time you got into your pit (bed) Yes it was very tough and it was not much easier when on you joined adult service. ( I transferred to a different corps so had to go basic training again Groan) We had one Corporal who would lift you by your ears.. trust me it's painful. Our escape and evasion exercises had one get motivator, if you got caught you got a kicking lol I made sure of my skills and never got caught lol. Yes the army IS different but if I could do it again I would
iuvenis animo I was posted to RAF Gatow once for a few weeks. I had came back from a tour of NI ( Op Banner) the day before so when I walked into the RAF canteen dressed in a combat smock, flying trousers complete with knife and flying boots everyone stopped eating and looked at me. It was a sea of grey uniforms lol. But I have to say the RAF meals, accommodation etc was far superior to the army. They also had 6 bars on camp ( though I got barred from 5 of them lol)
I joined at 15 in 1961 ... £1 10shillings - we had to pay a shilling "barrack damages" and set aside some of the princely sum to "credits" (savings) for when we went on leave. Passed out into the regulars 17 and a half and got a massive £6 a week.... it was great only Aden was kicking off so all the rest of the world was peacekeeping until 1969 and then flaming Ireland. I was lucky and had a real "Soldier of the Sixties" experience.
Do well at School. Good Maths, Science and a Language. Be fit and strong. The Royal Signals or Int Corps will give you some super cool jobs. Good luck.
I joined the RAF aged nineteen as a trainee technician, little did I realise at the time just how much I would draw upon the knowledge and experience gained throughout my civilian life.
#3 suprised me. I wasn't a gambler when I first joined, but I slowly started getting sucked into the fruit machines on camp, then before I knew it I was spending my "millionaires" weekends at the casinos nearby, then surviving the rest of the month with as little as £100. Of course there were some ups, but mostly downs as with all gambling!
Good to see your video wish someone had told me a bit about army life but I, am glad of what it made me so proud of all our serving personnel Navy, Army and Air force stay safe
Great video. I joined as a junior leader but was MD out and regret not at least making a bigger stink about that decision. Many young people join the army and it helps shape the remainder of their life for the good, even if they only do a short term. My father served 13 or 14 years and my best mate served 12 with the RIR. My daughter is getting married to a Jock from the 4 Scots.
My brother.. Great short video, I am currently applying for the British citizenship to then apply for the army here in London as a reserve...I'm a single parent of two, so that's all I can wish for now..
I came into the army with a great attitude, following every instruction, lisrening to my superiors. I actually enjoyed phase 1 and two training, and ny first year in the army was epic. Then one day, I met a warrant officer, or two, who were absolute dickheads with their ranks and called themselves, "old school" as an excuse to bully and treat others below them with they type of disrespect you wouldn't even inflict on your worst enemy. Since then I have a very hard time taking things with a pinch of salt and have developed a very defensive attitude that's really not easy to break. I've been in and out of the med centre with mental health issues, I have a difficult time keeping relationships healthy, I struggle to sleep sometimes. This has been going on for years. So yeah, cheers for that British Army.

Olivia Hanson i’m going to join the army, run a little bit and build it up. do a run every other day and on the days your not running do light workouts focusing on your legs and arms :) x
When I joined I was told that 17 year old girls were running 3 miles on 20 miles, so that was the challenge I took up, one of the fastest runners in the Sqn!
Don't be silly.. With a little bit of training, anyone could pass the basic fitness requirements to become a medic and i mean anyone. 2 or 3 months of easy long walks, jogging/running/exercising.. That's all 💁🏻♂
Should do a 5 reasons to join, basics, wages, fitness, looking after yourself and your belongings, friendship, travelling, list goes on, the skills stay for life and there worth having regardless of regiment or rank, British army basic training will put you on the right path to success if you choose 👍👍
An ex royal marine told me that when they ran the advert 99% need not apply they saw an overnight drop in interest to almost zero. For something like three or four months this advert ran and actually put people off applying.
Great video. I joined in the 80's (T.A). Only one incident of racism (a joke) in 10 yrs. Had a great time all told - as the vid says just be yourself, put the effort in and remember the team ethic.

Alot of guys i know joined up because they told me they couldn't find a decent job in civilian life. I always thought that was a poor reason to enlist, but it is clearly a very common reason, even some officers feel that way.
Good advice. I served in the Canadian military for 12 years. Knew what I was in for and then some. If you are a loser you will always be a loser. The military did a world of good for me. What you put into it is what you get out of it. Great vid.

I joined the TA back in the early eighties to earn some money while I was going through College and with a view to join the regulars. Never quite got round to joining the regulars, had a tiny attitude problem but stayed in the reserves for over 30 years. Army then latter (as I got older) RAF. One of the better decisions in my life. HellHound93 Are you white? I strongly assume and certain that you are as whites just love to claim that racism is over despite the fact that they have not and never will experience it in a predominantly white society! White love to speak on behalf of blacks and tell them and others that there is no racism, it’s just absurd and ironic! If you think that racism = racial slurs/ insults then you are extremely uneducated, narrow minded and naive and are part of the problem. Modern day racism is different from racist insults! And there is plenty of modern day racism in the Army, the only thing that changed is that it is not openly done anymore and it is harder to detect. One example for modern day racial discrimination is that Commonwealth (predominantly non whites!) recruits are not allowed to choose from all the job roles available; they then pick one of the shit roles available to them and then when they turn up for assessment /BT the white man tells them they cannot get their chosen role and either wait (which for mist is not an option which the white nan knows) or go to infantry ( where the Army lacks numbers and need to stock up). Whilst their fellow white applicants from UK ain’t limited and also get the role they applied for - funny huh, that’s not racism or racial discrimination to you??? ( my knowledge come from an insider perspective!)
My 5 reasons not till join the Army. 1. Your going till face prosecution by the government for doing yer job 20-40 years down the line (Northern Ireland veterans an some Iraq veterans is under this process) 2. The government will leave ye on the streets homeless an place so called "refugees" in social housing an benefits before ye. 3. Having the slightest right wing political stance ye will be deemed till be "racist, sexist or homophobic" even if ye condemn these things. 4. Being demonized by the recruitment adverts these past few years by getting the weak till join up. 5. Physical fitness tests have been dumbed down till the point were the fat, lazy an the slow can join taking from the army's new fitness tests for phase 1. I am 18 an I wanted till join but the recent events especially this past year or so has completely put me off. Don't get me wrong but I do support an love our troops no matter if they are Army, Navy or Air Force but this is pathetic, being a Northern Irish lad the prosecution of NI vet's has sickened me after defending our people frea IRA murders.
Stop complaining and just join ya pussy boi. Honestly you sound like a baby, there are plenty of veterans who have a fantastic life coming out of service, I’m not denying there aren’t fucked up things going on but denying yourself a career in the military where you will learn plenty of skills to bring in the civilian world is just idiotic. You can’t blame the whole military for the mistakes of a few morons.
So you're too scared to join up, and these will be your 'reasons' in 40 years when you are saying "oh I wish I done it" to your kids or grandkids. It is what you make it and I am sure that not every homeless person was once in the Army.
No 6.. The army's recruitment video is the most important reason not to join. I'm an ex soldier and all my family before were too, but we all agree that recruitment video has dissuaded us from giving any encouragement to upcoming family members from joining up. My mind on this can not be changed as the video has gone out. Sharpe would turn in his grave. Celer et Audax.
Which recruitment video would this be? If you’re opinion on something changes just because of one mistake or bad video then you’re a bit of a snowflake aren’t you?
@@Chief896 Be The Best is the motto and letting the liberals get a foothold in the Army then they certainly won't be the best. I'll just encourage my kids to join something else. You can call me a snowflake on here all day long, but it won't change my mind or principles.
None of these apply to me I can't wait to join I got my interview next Monday I can't wait! Good videos ! Recently got turned down beacuse my medical due to depression. trying to appeal at the moment hopefully I get in really want to join 1 mercian
Re apply, go to your doctors. And ask them to Wright you a letter. Saying it was not depression but anxiety. Big big diffrance and it was due to lack of work that got you down, and Bill's goin out etc. And if you dont want to do that. Apply again and when asked if you previously applied or are ex forces the answere is nope. Give a diffrent addres to previous. And when asked if you have suffered with depression the answere is again you guessed a big nope. Now it's up to capita to check your back ground out. They dont check every single person. Everyone has a bit of anxiety now and then. The doctors just put it down as depression on papers and it ruines youngsters lives. Society has bread anxiety the government need to get a grip of this and realise what its created. As its ruining youngsters lives. If people dont get help then they suffer. And because they get help they suffer again when they want a job in the millitery. They created the name ADHD, in my day I was a twat was doped up in medication for being a twat. It's simply not fair. So why not bend rules. What. Are they goin to do, send you to prison because you want to serve your country. Bend the rules mate think about your self life is a game you be player number 1.
my dad did 19 years in the army then they decided to make him redundant wasn't that kind of them to do?! - so thanks for joining now your on you're own.
I definitely agree with you on racism, the gambling habits, and drug usage. Any of those three and that individual needs to go packing, like yesterday. As far as training and attitudes, I think those are things that someone one going in can adjust over time, simply because of the fact that they’ll be almost forced to. Of course nothing ever applies to everyone (so there are out lyres). But, I believe (for the most part) people going into the military are already somewhat prone to want a challenge. So, I think that if you are going in and may have an attitude or training problem that is something that can be addressed and fixed. Just a thought.
It really depends with the racism one as there's so many people these days who can't take jokes and think everything/everyone is racist, I agree that actual racists shouldn't be allowed though.
Ah the British army where much rank is given and not earnt, trust me folks in my 11 years experience I have seen with my very eyes much corruption. Your face has too fit! If you're face does not fit the Armys public image you are fucking fucked! If you are pretty boy or a pretty girl you will go very far, if you are gay, lesbian, transgender or from any ethnic background it will be very easy for you to have a good career. Also remember it's not what you know, its who you know females are very good at working this one out trust me if you can become very friendly with the chain of command by any means necessary, I've seen this happen many times. Don't let what happened to me, happen to you.
I've suffered for three years with severe "mjental health" issues. Severe scarification and self harm. For the most part recently, I have been training, reading, training, reading and valuing my self and my potential. However; my biggest fear is that when I do decide to move forward into the army to develop all the skills (combative and non combative) that they teach you, that they will decline by application. Is there a general way of judging those with such history, or do they judge you on the merit of your character and how many years you have been devoid of any self harm?
@@liverpoolscottish6430 A lot, lot better of course these days. And I think the growth of aforementioned "illnesses" may and underlining MAY have had something to do with leading a very restricted life in some senses. It's not stressful situations that led me to harm, anyway. It was never caused by an unfocussed, hysterical state. A very different kind of self harm. But it's irrelevant now as I'm moving forward with each sunrise. Joining the military had simply always been one of my desires even as a young boy.

Yep, did you have to go to Sutton Coldfield before joining? Think they got rid of that a while ago.

5. Racism SHOULDN'T be what the army is about .........
Good words brother 🙏
Just giggling watching this.. I joined at 15.. we had racism, but no drugs no gambling and if you didn't work at getting fitter stronger etc you where in a world of pain. We got paid £10 a week £5 of which was held back for saving and kit and what money was left some had to go to the section Corporal who when pissed demanded money for more drink.
So it wasn't your fellow recruits you had to look out for but the bloody training staff lol
iuvenis animo
Then you could join at 15 which was the school leaving age.
One other thing, keep your mouth shut and your ears open.
iuvenis animo
Trust me there are many more, but don't want to bore or scare you.
Yes the army IS different but if I could do it again I would
iuvenis animo
I was posted to RAF Gatow once for a few weeks.

Also remember it's not what you know, its who you know females are very good at working this one out trust me if you can become very friendly with the chain of command by any means necessary, I've seen this happen many times. Don't let what happened to me, happen to you.
Oh i was literally praying that i have none of the problems that he'd list
Happy to see I'm ok.
Seriously, if you have mental health issues on civvy street, how do expect to cope with military life, which is potentially far more arduous?
You are not allowed to join the army with a history of self harm, depression ect. Its part of your medical history and records.
I was in the Army, nearly thirty years back met some great guys and also some rubbish, hope the bullying of guys has stopped, one knacker tried to bully me and didn’t succeed,I was at aldershot ,just got a blue light card, and a DDS card ,never forgot the lies and cover up by the military, regarding the deaths at deep cut barracks.it was unbelievable, one young guy shot him self in the head twice,it was all over the news even the experts thought the deaths were strange, that’s another reason I would say be careful and think what your joining first,I signed for 9 years,at the time you had discharge as of right ,I think this was about 6 weeks of being in ,some people are suited and some arnt, enjoyed the food, the mess hall was 👍 I even got I think it was 4 rail passes a year to go home not bad really, enjoy these videos, however I think the soldiers are treat softer than when I was in
Loving this video!😍 Great info too....I absolutely hate training or maybe it's the other way round🤣

Glen said it all at 6.43. I joined up with this fella at the Guards Depot and he has gone on to become an exemplary soldier. Listen to him.
I am colour blind but I’m still going to apply because I have done multiple colour blind tests and have got at least 75% correct also I have seen multiple colour blind people Join
Vinnie Richards Go for it. Completely depends on what job role you want, I have quite strong colour blindness yet I was fine in joining an infantry regiment.
MrEthanj123 I want to join the rifles so I should be fine
Now there's no racists being colour blind is a good thing!
Daz Lowe ?
Séamus Meally thanks for the information
I'm ex army miss it only served 3.5 years but still loved every moment of it even tho a few bad things happened to me
Mate you say only 3.5 years without realising how much can happen in that time. Hell even one day can turn the tide of a war. Thank you for your service
For queen and country if there’s a british man or woman able to fight at their own free will let them.
@Recksz #RKA it's not a joke it's for operational purposes.
What are you trying to say?
Simon Signolet he’s saying that it could cause issues in the battle field
Good list and should be obvious/common sense for most individuals.
