  • “I’m blind in one eye, partially deaf, my right arm doesn’t work and I’ve got brain damage. Oh, and my left leg’s missing too. Apart from that, I’m alright.”
    Paul Vice MC spent 16 years in the Royal Marines before his career came to a shattering halt when he was caught in the blast of an IED while on his fourth tour of Afghanistan.
    So severe were his injuries, he died twice on the Chinook that took him back to Camp Bastion for the surgery that saved his life.
    Please take a few minutes to listen to his remarkable story.

    I'm a trauma nurse, and I have saved hundreds of people, and I loved it. Got diagnosed with cancer, can't do it anymore, and it breaks my heart not being able to save people like I use to. I understand the loss of the only career you have ever known and loved, mourning the body you had, staring at death, and crying alone and moving on with your day. I'm glad you got a second shot at life. I hope I get mine.

    • @untrannify
      @untrannify 10 месяцев назад +17

      Seriously? I understand what you mean. We should complain less about inconveniences, but also that doesn't mean we are inferior and making bad choices if we aren't happy and with such a zest. He even acknowledged, he'd rather keep all he has than get PTSD.
      Now, do you think it takes bombs to develop PTSD? Of course not.
      In other words, action-reaction. Those of us who are lifeless aren't this way for no reason.
      Many of us have wounds, pains, worse than what he went through in his life, even though we were never tlat a war.
      If he speaks, laughs, then he's not really disabled in one sense, just like you'd say "if you have all your limbs then you're not disabled."
      Like him, I'd say, give me a life where I can say "I loved ever minute of it" like he said, and then have my limbs taken away. Than a life where you hate every minute of it.
      It's not about him making a choice, not to hate every day, it's actually that life wasn't that bad to him.
      Mental and emotional injuries are not to be dismissed. Or imagine people who are innocent but locked in prisons. Where they keep their limbs. But how can they have a seat for life? Even when proven innocent and released, you've lost a decade, now what? Or, like this veteran said, he loved being a soldier, but then lost parts of his body. Which one would you choose? I'd choose losing limbs after having fun over losing a decade in prison.

    Hey cheers to you Mate! I'm a disabled US Army Veteran. I've had multiple deployments to Iraq, Africa and Afghanistan. On April 11th 2011 our unit was ambushed by anti coalition militia forces, Haqqani and Taliban, in Kunar Province, Pech River Valley, Afghanistan. During the engagement I was severely wounded. Thankfully they were able to save my life all of my limbs, although I had multiple surgeries, years of rehabilitation etc.(Many of our guys weren't that lucky.) But the biggest blow for me, is that it put a big fat cross ❌ over my military career.
    Anyways, all I wanted to say, that stories like that are indeed huge inspiration for many. Keep up the great work. 👍
