Did my basic training at Pirbright then the guards depot in the 80,s and it was just one long beasting from morning till night, we were knackered before PT lessons because our instructors used to beast us on the way to the gym and on the way back , no wonder then that so many fell by the wayside . Today I think it is a more gentle introduction and the instructors actually talk to you with respect not like in the old days when they didn't give a shit if you jacked . How times have changed, mind you I have never been so fit all my life .

@@blakesblake5663 really? That’s a piece of piss for anyone who trains hard. Unless I’ve got the maths wrong, that’s a practically an 7-8 minute mile, which is a lot slower than what it used to be. 1.5 miles in 9:30 (old standard) is a 6 minute mile. Or have I completely fucked this up haha

Even when my work has been physically exhausting, I will still go to the gym after to push my body to the max. I may be a female so the requirements are slightly lower, but I don't settle for a pass, only for excellence. Now I know more specifically what kinds of tests there are, I can test myself already to know what progress is being made. @Amy Thomas: Amy, maybe you should watch the do's and dont's video as the PTI hit the nail on its head by saying "If words are offending you, you really need to reassess what line of work you've chosen "...Also, it's not up to Fabziy to teach somebody how to conduct themselves on social media, it's common sense! in particular if you want to join the Army you should know how to conduct yourself. And if simple words on a social media platform have the power to discourage the (potential) recruits in their training then we revert back to the wise words of that PTI "If words offending you you should reconsider the career path you've chosen!" , simple as.

Throw in exercises like squats and do a longer run every so often. Joining the army cadets might be a decent shout as well for some basic experience

My fastest 1.5 was 8 minutes 40 and my best 20 meter Beep was slightly under 13 12/8 I think.
1.5 mile is 9 laps around a football field
    Tips
6 laps at a fast pace
    3 laps best effort
If your running on flat road like army lads do generally when you see the last few hundred meters you belt It!
My only tips for the beep test If they still do It Is make it harder for yourself when you train at home.
Measure out a few meters extra (makes you work harder for every level 22/26 meters.
One thing they do I think In the Court System Is they let you get to a certain level
For example the prisons service and police force Is a 15m one but they let you get to level 7 or 8 first then stop everyone for 5 minutes then do the actual test.
Some Public Services let you get tired before you do the tests.
For the army mainly It's a slow jog and a slow walk for about a mile from what I've read and seen!
Then they ask you to do the run!
You can make It harder for yourself when you train at home before you go to the PFT Center.
Running cross country up and down hill uses alot more fitness then normal flat road running!
Measuring a few meters more when you do beep tests at home u can buy apps ect.
Do fell running and jog places up and downhill (ben nevis, snowdonia, your local moors!).
