The difference between how Vegeta and Goku trained in the Time Chamber is something Toriyama and Toey seem to have forgotten nowadays (Goku asking wtf you want to meditate for came out of left field): Vegeta has always had his gains in *power*, not necessarily technique: he pushes himself to the breaking point, then gets the zenkai from it. That's what he knows.
Goku, on the other hand, was a master Martial Artist at this point. He trained himself and Gohan in an upscaled version of the exact same training Roshi had given him and Krillin all those years back.

Besides growing up, he had an actual spiritual awakening that you associate with martial-arts-as-meditation, and it pays off in the fight with Piccolo again and again. Goku training at 100× gravity for 6 days got him somewhere between 3×-7× stronger depending on how much of a zenkai boost he got from the Vegeta fight.
Goku training on Yardrat for 1/2 year barely had any results but he learned instant transmission.
Goku training with Gohan and Piccolo for 3 years barely had any results and he didn't learn any new techniques.
Goku training with Gohan for 1 year in the ROSAT got him around a 8×-10× boost and mastering the SSJ form.
Goku training in otherworld for 7 years got him about a 2× boost and he unlocked SSJ2 and SSJ3 as well as learning the fusion dance.

I think a close second would be Goku's training in the Otherworld. He was surrounded by other deceased fighters from across the universe, and some of them were even stronger than he was at the time. I think a great example was Pikkon, who really brought out Goku's competitive nature, and his love of fighting. And, as we all know, Goku loves fighting with opponents stronger than he is in order to improve as a fighter, and get stronger.
There's also the many different training methods and equipment he had at his disposal in the Otherworld as well. For example, Goku could simulate gravity training with weighted gear, like when he was shadow boxing with those massive weights strapped to his arms and legs. If you really think about it, the Otherworld is literally the best gym Goku could've asked for at that time.
Next, there were also tournaments to compete in, so you can bet Goku would've been preparing to compete in those tournaments as well.
It maybe wasn't as effective as using the hyperbolic time chamber, but Goku had nothing but time in the Otherworld to train his body, achieve new and more powerful forms of Super Saiyan, compete in tournaments, and spar with some of the most powerful fighters in the Universe.

However, I don't remember where I heard this, so I don't know if it is actually official.

What makes the Cell Saga training so interesting for me… is that it was basically a modernized take on classic Turtle School training, not in terms of method (after all, Goku didn’t take Gohan to a farm or anything like that) but in terms of mentality. Goku trained their bodies through spars and ki control exercises, their minds through the inherent study of the Super Saiyan form and the potential evolutions of it (resulting in Gohan eventually breaking through and becoming a Super Saiyan 2 against Cell, and of course Goku’s own break through in the Buu Saga with Super Saiyan 3), and as you pointed out, utilizing rest and recovery to stay within peak condition. Goku took all of the aspects of Roshi’s first training camp for him in the original DB, and applied it in a more raw Saiyan way. Vegeta in the other hand, being raised as a warrior and not a martial artist, likely did not see the value of rest and recovery, nor the value of having a partner to push him forward. Goku, meanwhile, likely remembered how Krillin being there pushed him further in his motivation and so motivated Gohan, who in term motivated him. While Goku did not become the star player against Cell, his Roshi like mentality through training pushed Gohan to become just what the world needed, while Trunks and Vegeta’s training might have actually done Trunks a disservice, since Trunks did not realize in his fight against Cell that Super Vegeta and Super Trunks (aka the Super Saiyan grade transformations) slowed them down too much to enhance their strength.

Another reason why the chamber was incredibly affective, or showed that it was affective, was Goku got to experiment with the SSJ transformation. We see him use SSJ Grade 3, and immediately recognize why it wasn't viable. During that same period, Goku executed the idea to minimize the demands of SSJ, resulting in the perfected or mastered SSJ. I personally think he had been stewing on those ideas for awhile, he just wasn't able to really work towards it because of other circumstances, likely because he just wasn't able to push himself as hard outside of the chamber. The majority of their training pre androids seemed to be in the area near where the Son family lived, and I doubt ChiChi would stand for Goku being so destructive so close to their home, or, chance going far away and blowing up someone else's house, and Goku just doesn't seem to be the guy to go and destroy nature for shiggles. But in the chamber? There is literally only one thing to destroy in that place, and it is the building they walk out of and sleep in. And it honestly seemed pretty damn durable.

In my headcanon I think Goku realised that even after 3 years training still wasn't enough to catch the androids, he needed to train smarter, not harder.
Personally though, I'd say the 7 years was immense.
I mean he went from ssj1 to ssj3 where he can literally stop buu by himself if he wanted.
It doesn't seem like much because we think "he probs got ssj2 quick" but remember, Vegeta also had 7 years and he only got ssj2.

I think it was the 7 years, there's things he learned there that you can't even fathom to know like Ssj3 which is still the hardest form to achieve without resorting to fusion. A divine form that was only achieved in an environment where there was no limitations to your body.

Can't master something yourself unless you can teach it someone else. Goku finally took the time to focus on training Gohan and in the process learned the things he couldn't have learned on his own or even with his prior training with Piccolo.

I like how it reflects real life. There are going to be periods when you won't really learn anything new and you become comfortable until something make you realize you have to take a new path so you can face your next challenge.
It's pretty similar to Rocky. He had to change his ways to have a chance against Drago, Lang and Creed. He hadn't taken boxing seriously enough for years to be able win against Apollo at first. Plus he become comfortable after he won against him so Lang could whoop him.

Just imagine if Goku and Gohan didn't leave until they both reached ss2. I think Gohan could've been able to actively ascend without tragedy. He used his experiences from the saiyan and frieza arc, plus a life of death situation to go super saiyan. He pretty much could've used the same thing to reach ss2. The hyperbolic time chamber and the 7 years in otherworld were Goku's best training camps.

    • @matthiasceus
      @matthiasceus 11 месяцев назад

I don't think that would have been possible since it would've been a little hard to reuse the same past trauma to achieve a form even greater than the one you achieved using the same trauma. It's kind of like if someone did you wrong in the past and you got your get back after getting extremely angry and then in the future you think back on it and despite already getting your get back, you get even angrier than you were at the time it happened. The difference between Gohan on planet namek and in the chamber was that he was significantly stronger then which allowed him to be able to achieve super saiyan. They definitely could've been slightly stronger but it would have been useless since they were nearing a cap. (at the time at least)

    • @imjustadog1897
      @imjustadog1897 11 месяцев назад

@@matthiasceus Anger, rage, grief or whatever brings out the power. If a warriors mind is honed enough, they can bring out the power without emotion. Gohan first achieved the next level through intense training. It might’ve been brief, but he definitely had it in his back pocket. He was just exhausted. The only reason he didn’t have it on cue was because Goku didn’t tell him about it. He said that he wanted Gohan to be stronger than him. Gohan did become stronger, but he didn’t believe he did until his father told him after his fight with Cell. Later Vegeta, Goku, Gotenks and even future Trunks would achieve the form through training.

  • @Gelwain

Late to the party, but you also have to remember that Goku got a hell of a lot more out of that training than Vegeta did because Vegeta never had a master to impart their wisdom. Roshi, from day one, always stressed the "Train Well, Eat Well and Rest Well" philosophy; something that was brought up again in Super. Goku fully adopted that mindset from his master, no matter how much stronger he became compared to him. Roshi is a perv, but he's an absolute genius when it comes to life and body wisdom, and instructing pupils. Case-in-point: Toei merch-selling shennanigans aside: look how much more quickly Vegeta realizes his potential while training under an actual master in Whis? Once Goku and Vegeta begin training under the same master, Vegeta never falls that far behind Goku, to the point of effectively being stronger than him in current canon. By this same logic, Gohan will become an incredible teacher to whomever he mentors in the future, as he himself had two amazing teachers in Goku and Piccolo.

Personally I’d choose the roshi training in db with krillin, we saw him learn so much, and do so much, from swimming, to racing, to reading and studying and learning. But if this is like strictly just Goku training camps then yea this is right there at the top, showcased everything he’s learned from his masters and he’s utilizing it while also teaching it to Gohan. This is also my theory as to why future Gohan wasnt as strong as even post-namek goku, because he never got fully trained by Goku thus never learning the turtle school, or king kai or kamis training regiment.

The time chamber had to be the number one, not only because in that dimension, the training of one year is done in one day in our reality, but also something im not sure it was explore: bringing training gear, specially with the help of capsules. With capsules, Goku could bring with him gym equipment, some supplies like senzu beans, or even better, bring something he could use in that infinito space like a space ship similar to the one he used to travel to Namek, with the gravity training room.

This was a very interesting video, very well done and all. But I'm not entirely sold. I still think the Namek one was way better, and you kinda sold it like it was. Also, the HTC training was more focused on Gohan than Goku, so it's kinda hard.

I agree with your choice, but would argue that the 3 years of training with Piccolo and Gohan were sort of related. The key to that training isn't Goku, like the time chamber, but Piccolo and Gohan, who likely received major powerups. It was also Goku's first time seeing Gohan's potential first hand as a sparring partner. They effectively had to get on Goku's level, to some extent. Also consider to unlock Super Saiyan, your base power has to be pretty high, as we see with Goku and is implied with Goten and Trunks. Sure, Piccolo and Gohan had some of their own power boosts on Namek, but nothing like Goku. Thus, I suspect in their three year training, Goku helped close the gap.

For this specific training the reason feels more rooted to the partner. Whilst vegeta had acceptsd trunks as his son trunks still did something vastly faster than he himself could do. Add that with the fact that MOST of Vegeta training revolves around his body being physically able to not only withstand huge amounts of power but huge damage as well then it makes sense.
Goku and gohan maxed out in their base forms, while vegeta was stronger than Goku his base saiyan form wasn't mastered meaning the same benifits of less ki drain. His body effectively being lighter and more nimble for combat and so on
Goku training is more so refinement then growing while most of Z saga Vegeta still revolved around being a warrior not a fighter
What i mean is he expects himself to take damage and encounter stronger opponents so as a warrior he's looking to over power his opponent with his body rather than his refined technique

    Oh shit, it's true.
Goku went in having only witnessed Cell's second form and, being already outclassed by his first - trained so hard he got competitive with his third, and had Gohan's 50% injured self surpass even Super Perfect Cell.
