To be fair Yamcha did beat that Saibaman, he just got caught lacking by the self destruct. Even Piccolo was shook by that actually and had not been expecting it at all. Furthermore, Yamcha actually stepped up to fight instead of Krillin knowing something like this might happen, so he placed himself in danger to protect his friend. At least that's what Krillin says after his death. Krillin also implies that if he had been in Yamcha's place, he would have ended up like him. You could also interpret his bravado as him trying to lift everyone's spirits. Not to mention the iconic Yamcha pose that's gone down in history. Overall I'd say Yamcha actually did a lot more than Tien, as he established the threat and the horror of the situation, knowingly risked himself instead of letting Krillin, who can't be revived again, risk it all, and he actually did have a good performance, it's just that he got caught off guard because he underestimated his opponent.

It's very much implied that Raditz was feigning defeat as bait, luring Piccolo to fire the Makankosappo, so he could dodge. It's only stated in the manga, not the anime to my knowledge, which is probably one of the reasons why it doesn't get noticed often. I will play devils advocate with Yamcha, that he also makes sure to go ahead of Krillin, citing that unlike him, he's already died once (back when they believed they could only resurrect people with the dragon balls a single time). Despite his cocky arrogance, there's some awareness to the dangers he's putting himself in. And if Krillin had died to that kamikaze attack, there's no way I can see them winning in the fight against Vegeta. ...Granted it's kind of sad his most useful action is keeping more useful characters alive so they can contribute to the fight, but then could say the same about anyone that didn't participate in the fight against Vegeta. Also big props to Nappa. Not to be rude but I think it's sort of lost on some of the later writers of Super, as to why Nappas fight against the Z fighters was so much better than later fights against Saganbo or Tagoma/Ginyu in Tagomas body, despite the beats of the fight being the same. Besides Nappa having a distinct personality to him, and the stakes present of irreversible death, the fight at least gave every Z Fighter the chance to do something. And the holes in the guys intelligence paved the way for the extremely remote chance of victory through outsmarting him. He didn't just break like a twig when Goku showed up either, it took a Kaioken to really put him down for good, something Goku wanted to reserve the use of as much as possible. His actions in the fight obviously were also a huge catalyst for the next arc; it's cool how all three Saiyans actions had consequences.

There was a fan-made manga made awhile back that was basically an Isekai, but the MC incarnated as Yamcha (when he preferred to be Goku or Vegeta). With his vast knowledge of Dragonball, he made the best of it, training up Yamcha so he wouldn't get killed by a Saibaman. He drank the Ultra Divine Holy Water from Korin and even went to Namek to have his potential unlocked by Guru and train with Nail. He ended up completely overpowering the Saibaman squad and even Nappa, but was *STILL* no match for Vegeta, though he did help Goku out a lot. The final battle was actually against Chaotzu, who was ANOTHER DB fan that got Isekai'd into the series. Chaotzu was a legitimate threat to the "overpowered" Yamcha--and yeah, most of it was "fanboy vs fanboy", but I really wish we had gotten to see a legit Chaotzu at least once in the series. Even Yamcha had his moments of glory (against the Pilaf gang and Baba's tournament), but Chaotzu got bupkis. Lame.

Yeah agree on raditz. He did so much in his short time that most villains would wish they could do half of. I like to think of the raditz fight as less then start of Z and more the end of og as we went though the entire life of goku and his death and revival was basically the revamp of db into dbz. Honestly I'd drop chaotsu to trash. He literally didn't do anything. Yamcha dies to a sneak attack but it took a saibamen out so it was a net gain while chaotsu did nothing

Vegeta gave such a otherworldy vibe too, being the royal prince of a thriving warrior planet with formidable space warriors who fill the role of freaking pirates. Terrorizing the universe because they were in a growing phase of thier development. Freiza was dead right to be afraid of thier progression because one day they would recognize the error of thier ways and surely repent for serving such a ruthless tyrant by fear. It would have been a epic rise up moment like Bugs Life when they realized the Ants were stronger than the grasshoppers... Except they themselves were the grasshoppers. But i think it overall took them far too long to realize the error of thier ways and Beerus came to collect that rent. They paid their dues though as Goku said and out of the wake of thiee devastation, a seed was shot out into space, a branch to outgrow the entire tree and be the best of them. To singlehandedly atone them for thier sins and at the same time avenge thier life of servitude and untimely demise. I think had they rose up and stood up to Freiza, whether they unlikely survived or not (maybe they would have had a better plan and lived to fight another day), Beerus would have gave them a second chance to see where thier growth would take them... That scene between Bulma, Master Roshi, and Goku after Goku's battle with Vegeta is heart-warming. I just loved how it displayed the brother and sister bond between Goku and Bulma. and the
Yamcha wasn't as cocky as you think; he chose to fight the Saibamen before Krillin because Krillin had already died once, so couldn't be wished back if something happened. He took one for his friend, that warrants some respect.
Not only cuts off Vegeta's tail but cuts his back, saves Gohan, distracting him which buys time to allow Gohan to transform and ultimately make that Vegetable squash. Yajirobe is underrated and one of the top 5 most important characters in Dragon Ball. Even if he didn't want to help or accidentally did like falling around and helping Goku find the super spirit water and catching him from a lethal fall after Piccolo Daimao exploded when there were no Dragon Balls. And bringing him up Karin's tower not once but twice? Not to mention always coming through with the senzu. Bulma was a bitch for saying he should've bit the dust instead of Yamcha considering if it wasn't for him, all of them would've died.
Krillin is totally goated for having the balls to actually attempt to end Vegeta Edit: I really thought Yajirobe would be in Great tier but GOATed works for this saga

I’d give one argument in favor of yamacha’s shall we say optimism. He was there to give them a sense of hope. A ra ra speech. He did it by being a cocky prick, but I think that was his intention.

I only disagree with Chichi because, it needs some consideration to what happened from her point of view. In my opinion, she's great overall, but good in this saga. Remember, one year ago, Goku goes to see his friends she doesn't like. Goku's dead. Gohan's kidnapped by the freaking vilain Piccolo still was at that time. And what she sees is both of them involved in the helliest warzone of DB at that time. She thinks and acts how we expect from the ultra protective mother she is. She takes care of her son first with a lot of a resentments towards Goku in a typical female style. Toriyama's Ze Goat, definitely. Great vid, anyway.
Yamcha should be higher because his dialogue in the manga makes it clear he actually does know what kind of threat is going on and puts himself first because he knows if krillen dies he cant be revived again. he does die to his cockiness but he puts himself against the unknown intentionally for the good of the team. even if yamcha was always the punching bag jobber of the series, gotta give him credit for that.

Krillin was such a great character in this arc. From the 23rd Budokai saga all the way to the Frieza saga, that was the peak of his character to me

Yeah agree on raditz. He did so much in his short time that most villains would wish they could do half of. I like to think of the raditz fight as less then start of Z and more the end of og as we went though the entire life of goku and his death and revival was basically the revamp of db into dbz.

Vegeta gave such a otherworldy vibe too, being the royal prince of a thriving warrior planet with formidable space warriors who fill the role of freaking pirates. Terrorizing the universe because they were in a growing phase of thier development. Freiza was dead right to be afraid of thier progression because one day they would recognize the error of thier ways and surely repent for serving such a ruthless tyrant by fear. It would have been a epic rise up moment like Bugs Life when they realized the Ants were stronger than the grasshoppers... Except they themselves were the grasshoppers. But i think it overall took them far too long to realize the error of thier ways and Beerus came to collect that rent. They paid their dues though as Goku said and out of the wake of thiee devastation, a seed was shot out into space, a branch to outgrow the entire tree and be the best of them. To singlehandedly atone them for thier sins and at the same time avenge thier life of servitude and untimely demise. I think had they rose up and stood up to Freiza, whether they unlikely survived or not (maybe they would have had a better plan and lived to fight another day), Beerus would have gave them a second chance to see where thier growth would take them...

Yajirobe is underrated and one of the top 5 most important characters in Dragon Ball. Even if he didn't want to help or accidentally did like falling around and helping Goku find the super spirit water and catching him from a lethal fall after Piccolo Daimao exploded when there were no Dragon Balls. And bringing him up Karin's tower not once but twice? Not to mention always coming through with the senzu. Bulma was a bitch for saying he should've bit the dust instead of Yamcha considering if it wasn't for him, all of them would've died.

I only disagree with Chichi because, it needs some consideration to what happened from her point of view. In my opinion, she's great overall, but good in this saga.
Remember, one year ago, Goku goes to see his friends she doesn't like. Goku's dead. Gohan's kidnapped by the freaking vilain Piccolo still was at that time. And what she sees is both of them involved in the helliest warzone of DB at that time. She thinks and acts how we expect from the ultra protective mother she is. She takes care of her son first with a lot of a resentments towards Goku in a typical female style. Toriyama's Ze Goat, definitely. Great vid, anyway.
Yamcha should be higher because his dialogue in the manga makes it clear he actually does know what kind of threat is going on and puts himself first because he knows if krillen dies he cant be revived again. he does die to his cockiness but he puts himself against the unknown intentionally for the good of the team. even if yamcha was always the punching bag jobber of the series, gotta give him credit for that.
